Ancient Pentatonix Lore: According to Pentatonix's Scott, after the group came together and won a money prize and recording contract on The Sing Off, the group left their schools and jobs moving near each in in California to begin their professional singing careers. While they were still settling in the record company dump(fired?) them. To survive they built on their fan base from the show by uploading a series videos to TH-cam of them singing. Some of these videos were filmed in one of their living rooms. Sitting on a couch. For THIS video they promoted the couch from supporting cast to costar. I caught their show while they were touring last May. Before they did a mashup of some of the songs from those old videos, they brought out the (or a) couch to make a guest appearance. Of course their live show was unbelievably good. Love your reactions and stay safe.
I am addicted to watching Pentatonix reactions....I admitt this...but you are my favorite reactor by far! Oh I just danced and smiled along with you! I love it! your face... can't wait to see more....
@@andrewmonsalve5051 There might be a bit of enhancing of the vocal fry in the official video, but he does it live, too, so it might just be making it louder for the video instead of just straight out adding it where it wasn't already there.
Great reaction! I love it when someone gives Avi his due on this one - Mitch usually gets all the attention. That's not to say that Mitch doesn't deserve it (he can do the guitar solo just as well without the megaphone), but I just love Avi and anything he sings. Speaking of, please react to Avi's solo work. It's all great, but "Change On the Rise" is a good place to start. And Margot is adorable - she looks like she could be my cat's sister.
Pausing to gush about a certain part in the song is great in my book! You highlight the part then back up a few seconds so you don't miss anything else. I think the way you're doing your reactions is perfect. Keep doing you! Love this video and really enjoyed your reaction! Keep them coming please!
The "stylistic genius" word you're searching for is the arrangement. Their arrangements are often done by Ben Bram, who has shared Grammy awards with them. Ben Bram also shares the arrangement credit for this song.
Your reaction was great! Don't apologize for pausing. That's part of reacting! As long as you go back a second or two so you don't miss anything we don't mind at all!
Hey, I just wanted to say yours was maybe my favorite reaction to this song; definitely on the top 2-3. I am so glad you paused to share your thoughts. I WANT to know when Avi has just bowled you over (drives me crazy when folks just hold it until the end), but if you had been swooning over Avi, I would have missed getting to see that moment of realization over Mitch's guitar solo. I hate when reactors pause to talk about themselves, but if it's about getting deeper into the music...keep it coming!
I've seen Mitch do the guitar solo live a few times and it's every bit as impressive (even though he doesn't use the megaphone). There are a number of live performance videos out there if you'd like to check it out. P.S.: Mitch would love your shirt ... he's a huge Sponge Bob fan and even has Sponge Bob tattoos.
GeriatricPTXer definitely, I just rewatched that one 2 days ago, the only thing better is my memories from watching them do it in person! Such a buzz 🎶🎵🎶🎵
This is the most impressive cover they've ever done. It's not one of my favorites, but it's the one that was the hardest hill for them to climb. I really appreciate that they kept essentially the original arrangement. This song is one of the greatest songs ever written and Freddie Mercury is the greatest frontman of all time. Mitch handled it well and Avi's bass is perfection. It's a truly great cover. I've always been more partial to their more emotional covers. Hallelujah, Imagine, Say Something, Sound of Silence, their Christmas music- to me that's their bread and butter. That's what they nail more than the a cappella groups.
Man so many good Christmas songs they've done. I'm glad they took it easy this past one. They deserve it. I love when they do unusual song choices. And their original Christmas music should really be added to THE great library of Christmas songs.
The remote-controlled couch is a shout-out to their earliest videos, several of which had them sitting on various pieces of furniture while singing into the camera. And I love your Avi love! FYI, he is on the Blade Runner sequel soundtrack with his basso profundo notes and even gets album liner credit for his work.

I saw them perform this live! It was A-MAAAA-ZING!! I don’t know if it was as good or better. Mitch is such a performer. And Scott totally rocked out. Their harmonies and that opera part (idk if that’d the right word) was just awesome. Great reaction as usual!

SO glad you got to Bohemian Rhapsody by Pentatonix! Such a treat. It has to be one of their best songs. I always enjoy your reactions. Please keep them coming!
I imagine that the most expensive part of the video was the motorized couch. There is also another video on TH-cam going behind the scenes of the shoot, which was all done outdoors on a surprisingly cold California night. To me, all five members of the group were extremely strong, but as happens too frequently, Kirstie was definitely underrepresented. Still, an amazing video, easily in my top five PTX songs. If Mr. Mercury were still alive, I think he would love what they did with his song.
Absolutely terrific watching you react to one of my favourite groups. What impresses me as an a capella singer is that every one of them knows how to tune a chord. They are not singing "in tune", as in bang on the note. They are timing the close harmony to get the resultant notes sounding. Each of them tunes to 1/64th of a tone. The is most audible when you listen to how they resolve chord progressions. The lead note hangs on as the chords move around it, and which ever one is holding that lead note is constantly tuning it but in such a way you really have to listen to hear. The effect is perfectly achieved. The other thing that has always caught my ear, and I'm surprised you didn't mention it, are the descending bell chords. Doing them a capella and not going flat is incredibly difficult and most impressive when it is done as well as these guys do it. They even make it sound easy!
I’ve been waiting for you to get to this one! I knew you’d really get into it. You expressed it better than anyone else could ever do. I agree the genius in PTX goes beyond what we see on the screen: the arrangers, live and studio crew are worthy of this group. You know what, take your time and keep going at your own pace. I don’t even want to push and prod you in any direction (I may have slipped up once) because part of the fun in this journey is wondering what you will do next and what you will unveil. You be the driver, I’m just tagging along. Thank you.
Mitch makes the guitar solo sounds with the same microphone 🎤 he sings into in concert. The megaphone was a prop for dramatic effect. I don't give it all to Avi for who shines in this song. He did his thing, but without all of them, and a good front man, the song would NOT work live. Speaking of "work", you haven't seen Mitch work that stage! I have never seen Avi hit the deck and sing flat on his back live or otherwise. Kevin sounded like a drum machine. The piano part.. kudos to each vocalist. Those high, sweet notes were so poignant and that was Kirstin. The operatic part with Scott and Kirstin was fabulous, as was Scott's solo. Each person shines in this incredibly difficult acapella cover of Queen's EPIC hit. First time I had a different opinion than you. 😉 Vìve la difference!
Glad you switched the screen to the left. It does make a difference. Soon you need to react to Avi's solo work. There's a lot of it, both from 2017 and 2019 to now, but a good introduction is "Change on the Rise", which he released just over a year ago. Hope you react to it for us Avi-cionados.
This is always my favorite video to watch people react to. Whether you're new to Pentatonix or have listened to a million videos , there's no denying the shock with that guitar🤯🎸📢
Marvelous reaction sir ! Mitch sings 6 octaves, and is a fantastic person, and flirts with his own fem side. The "live" versions sound the same, no megaphone needed, he does it the same every time. Guitarist, Brian May from Queen loved their version. Their DAFT PUNK Mashup won their first Grammy ! Kiiara's GOLD shows their acapella passion. They are brilliant !
Honestly, we don't mind if you pause. Better pause than talk over the music. If you do, rewinding is nice, some reactors pause and don't rewind and because of that they miss stuff.
I have seen them live, so amazing. I forget every time i watch this, i have to keep telling my brain that this is all voices. I have been listening to so many great groups since lock down, i can not pick a favorite. They are all so amazing. But pentatonix is very high on my favorites Glad you introduced Margo, we see her often jump onto the window sill lol
You really can pay to hear guitar Mitch in Bohemian Rhapsody ... once this whole pandemic is over! They do this song in the encore most of the time, it’s as amazing live as in the studio version. I’ve seen them twice, my third time seeing them has been put off until this pandemic is over, they had to abandon their European tour half way through before they got to the UK. Another amazing version I love is by the Acapop! Kids Bohemian Rhapsody/Somebody To Love. Definitely need to check it out!

Yes. We all love. Ptx really is it's own community. I am an Avi fan to. Bass speaks to your soul. Feel so blessed. They did this on hopes and dreams that anyone might like them. The world says- we love you!
That last megaphone solo showing the shooting stars was paying homage to original member Brian May the guitarist who is a astrophysicist. That's so cool of them.
Was waiting to see your reaction to this song. I think it time you knew about Acapop! Kids it's a group of 25 kids ages 8-16 who sing acapella. They were put together by Scott ,Ben Bram. and another guy who's name I can't remember right now. Also they have an all female group called Citizen Queen you should check them out too.
Check out their cover of "Gold", their original track "Cracked", or any of their Evolution Of.... videos, such as the Evolution of Ariana Grande!!! Or these 2 videos from their lead singer: I Should Tell Ya Momma On You - Scott Hoying (Red Cover) The A Team - Scott Hoying, Kina Grannis, Kevin "K.O." Olusola (Ed Sheeran Cover) The ridiculous thing is not that they can do every song just as good as the actual song that has instruments, it's that they can actually do a better job than the originals without instruments!!! And every song they've covered but 1 or 2, and those were fire, just not as good as the original!!
I am a music lover and it’s so awesome to see someone on here get excited about such an amazing group of people. I’m with u 100% and ur just too cute guy. Keep it up.

Watching your reaction to this song just made my day! Your enthusiasm to all the pieces that make this such an amazing video was great. PS- Margo is a beautiful tabby :O)
One other thing. Now that you have watched them for a while. Kirstie pronounces her name like the word "thirsty". It is "Kuhr" not "Keer" at the beginning.
Watch it again and notice that the couch is motorized and rolling down the street on a very cold night, as they get on and off of it repeatedly. It stops once or twice but it must have been very difficult to do choreography, sing, stay warm, and get on and off a moving couch. There is a short film of the making of this video.
I can't wait for you to see Evolution of Michael Jackson. it's my fav of their evolution songs...if you don't jump out of your chair at least three times I will be disappointed hahaha ;)
In true cat fashion...loving until the camera is on...Margot! And thank you for properly admiring Mitch's guitar solo. And no apologies needed for the talking or pausing. I'm not here to see you conform to someone else's idea of how you should react. I like your reaction, the way YOU do it. I can hear your excitement and it is exactly how mine was when I first heard it. Keep up the good work!
The guitar solos are all Mitch, the megaphone was just something Mitch saw lying around on the set and he decided it would make a cool prop, and it's been confusing people ever since. They still perform this in concert; I'm pretty sure you can see it on their live stream from the Hollywood Bowl in 2022. In live performances you can see that it's just Mitch and a microphone.
Love your reaction to pentatonix. If you want to start from the very beginning you should react to there sing-off performance that's where it all started for them. You seem to like Scott's riffs and runs so you could also react to Scott hoying's riffs and runs and please do more superfruit reaction they also released a CD. All of them actually did some solo stuff, Kevin is the only one that has released solo stuff recently in the group.
im just going to echo what so many have already said... Change on the rise by Avi. After listening to it, you will only have one regret. That one regret is that you didn't listen to us earlier. And don't even say you need to work your way up to it, or you need to get ready... to prepare yourself. you ned to go in to that one raw... Its primal... almost a battle hymn... there is no getting ready for that. You close your eyes, and feel how you are ready to go outside, break quarantine, and face the apocalypse head on like a warrior.
Guitar Mitch is everything! And his style is fantastic!

I'm still trying to figure out how Kevin fits an entire drum kit in his mouth.
Watch it again and notice that the couch is motorized and rolling down the street on a very cold night, as they get on and off of it repeatedly. It stops once or twice but it must have been very difficult to do choreography, sing, stay warm, and get on and off a moving couch. There is a short film of the making of this video.
I have to lol all the grown up reactors look like kids getting a puppy on Xmas morning hearing this the first time great reaction!!
A little info about the beatbox expert Kevin, he's a graduate of Yale who also plays the cello, piano and a wind instrument CLASSICALLY. He is awesome
That is what makes him unique !
Love your reactions
Don’t apologize for stoping!! We do it too. I love watching you watch them,
You can see them perform that live too, there are lots of videos!
BEST reaction to Mitch and the megaphone!!!
I can't wait for you to see Evolution of Michael Jackson. it's my fav of their evolution songs...if you don't jump out of your chair at least three times I will be disappointed hahaha ;)
If you want another Queen in a capella, check out "Bohemian Rhapsody x Somebody to Love" by Acapop Kids.
I find you so entertaining to watch you react to this..thanks!!
Please react to their rendition of Can You Feel The Love Tonight! 😊
Thank you for appreciating Avi in this
You get so excited and I love it.
Good reaction bro keep up the good work. Uploading daily
There is a behind the scenes video of this video. The couch didn't want to cooperate. Lol.
Best reaction I’ve seen! 💯
Loved your reaction!!!!!!
mitch has changed his look a lot over the years
In true cat fashion...loving until the camera is on...Margot!
Your reaction is priceless!
Mitch is a chameleon
The guitar solos are all Mitch, the megaphone was just something Mitch saw lying around on the set and he decided it would make a cool prop, and it's been confusing people ever since.
They still perform this in concert; I'm pretty sure you can see it on their live stream from the Hollywood Bowl in 2022. In live performances you can see that it's just Mitch and a microphone.
It's a Mitch thing...he always is different..😎😎
Love your reaction to pentatonix. If you want to start from the very beginning you should react to there sing-off performance that's where it all started for them. You seem to like Scott's riffs and runs so you could also react to Scott hoying's riffs and runs and please do more superfruit reaction they also released a CD. All of them actually did some solo stuff, Kevin is the only one that has released solo stuff recently in the group.
Mitch is doing that guitar sound with his mouth The megaphone is just a prop not really turned on. Amazing isn’t it? 7:41
You should listen to their sing off performances. You can get to know them better and us pentaholics will love to check your reactions
I thank you for and respect your commentary using polite language. 😊
Avi is the man. Then and now.
I legit love all of these guys but I have a soft spot for Kevin and Avi. Their roles are so often overlooked but probably the most important.
im just going to echo what so many have already said...
Love it when reactors see mitch with the Megaphone!!
