Wish I could add a few thousand subscribers. Fantastic video and explanation. I know the internal combustion engine has been around over 100 years. I am most very impressed with those who had the idea and followed through with it. I'm also impressed that modern day machining and manufacturing can produce these at todays prices. Thank you.

This is the best small engine video I've seen. Thank you for posting this, GREAT JOB!!!
I have one of these engines on a lawnmower waiting to be disassembled. Hit a piece of steel with it and I'm thinking it stripped a tooth or two off the cam gear or bent the connecting rod. This video was extremely helpful as to what to expect during disassembly. Thanks Again!!

Wow - A plastic Carburetor and a plastic Camshaft. I have the 7.25, 163cc EXI Engine dated 2018. Hope mine doesn't have plastic garbage too. Great teardown video. I have a 1985 Honda HR-214 old OHV design I bought new. Still runs perfectly. Smokes when it starts and then none after.

Great vid! If I may add something, it's good practice to clean the shaft well before you run it through the bearing in removing the sump. Also, that governor is also the oil slinger that lubes the internals.

when disassembling screws/bolts/washers etc. I put some scotch table on them so they remain in place when I move the assembly. I also mark electrical male/female parts with permanent marker so I can see what goes with what. keep up the good work!!!

Just a cute story that happened way before I got into small engine repairs and opened my shop. I was in a salvage yard not far from here looking for a door for a customers truck and in the parking lot I found one of those little puller tools and at the time I no idea what it was so I just kept it laid on my console where it stayed there a better part of 2 years before it ended up in the drawer of one my bigger tool cabinets. It was one day when I was braking down a little intek motor I actually thought about that thing in my one drawer. That was what I said to myself the little thing I had might work and naturally it was buried better than a dogs bone. I took it out and that was when I saw the actual markings on the tool said BRIGGS AND STRATTON SUN TOOLS inc. I actually had no idea what that little thing I found actually was back then. I'm glad I picked it up and kept it. Possibly it fell out of someones truck or tool box and they probably never realized it was gone for some time. I never gave a thought of taking it back its a nickel and dime tool but it was nice I didn't chuck it in the sheet can and actually kept it.

Thanks for a great video. I was just finishing putting the head back on a 500e (09p602009f) and it appeared that the head gasket p/n 799586 could be installed two different ways, but I decided the oil wouldn't flow back to the pushrod chamber if I reversed the top and bottom edges. After assembling it I started to second guess myself, but I could see in your disassembly I had it correct (it may not have even fitted if it was wrong, I don't know). I wish I had found your video before I did the repair, because one of the small steel valve stem caps had fallen off, just as you warned about. I noticed it missing during assembly and after much searching I found that it had rolled 10 feet across the concrete floor. I was told to torque the head bolts to 130 in lb at one site and 160 in lb at another. I went with 160 just to be sure.

I can only state the same like all the people said - this is the best and detailed tutorial ever!!! I`m trying to diagnose problems with this engine on our TORO mower. Is there any way to identify a camshaft failure on this engine, please& I mean before disassembling it. Some people advised that this camshaft must have a decompression mechanism which common cause of camshaft failure. To determine, we need to turn flywheel manually and at the end of compression cycle it can be a little bounce or a click noticeable from the valves side. Unfortunately this technique is more related to bigger B&S engines. Can you tell me whether this method is working for this engine too, please? My engine doesn`t demonstrate any bouncing or clicking. Too hard to start and, sometimes the starting handle tends to jump out of hands. Engine works too rough despite all the 3 components- compression, carburetor (just cleaned) and sparks are OK. Thank you for your vital advise.

I've got a lawn mower with this kind of engine and the oil cap refuses to come off, I have twisted it and pulled it and pushed it and every possible thing I can think of. I'm just about ready to take a hacksaw to it but I'm hoping maybe you have some tips and tricks on how to get that oil cap off.

Greetings. I have a problem that is making me crazier than I already am... I have a B&S 125P02-0012-F1. I bought the engine new to replace a 5HP on a walk behind lawnmower. Last weekend, it failed. The problem was a blown (!) head gasket. Not form pressure, but likely a bad B&S OEM gasket. Installed and properly torqued. Did not touch anything else - just reversed what I need to disassemble. NO SPARK! Old magnet ok but replaced with OEM incl. new boot and proper heat range plug. No spark. Ditto an OEM carburetor (obviously not related to sparking). Replace the magneto to ground and kill switch to ground wires and a new SPST switch. No spark. Cleaned the flywheel (which is not an issues). It "appears" the magnets are strong. Gapped per B&S to .012 using to feelers so the gap is identical. STILL NO SPARK. How can something this simple be so impossible? Ordered a brand-new engine, but want to fix this one as a spare...Any help appreciated.

Liked and subscribed. Great work. I had forgotten that the poulon engine was running poorly in the fall and the other day it was making a terrible knocking unbalanced sound and smoking. Going to tear it down. What is the likely culprit part, I'm guessing something at the pin shaft for the piston. Thoughts? Thanks! Headed down now to start tearing it down.

?: In the sump cavity on my SMALLER, SIMPLER B & S push mower, i don't have the connection to the governor, though there is a sharp remnant of something that doesn't go through the sump body. No broken part fell out in my disassembly (but there may have been a previous effort that simply left that connection out entirely). That's my question: on the super simple B & S push mower is there an exterior connection to the governor arm? or is there a broken part that a previous owner simply left off as "good enough for bluegrass?" Thx, good videos! D Day, Maine

When U take these little motors apart it's a real pain in the ass taking the carb off first. Remove the fuel tank first everything else then just comes apart much easier. Trying to get that fuel line out of that tight space especially if it is hardened can be a night mare so just take the tank off or cut the hose its usually all hard and decrepit so just cut it and get new hose.

I try and stick to the older all metal engines if I can. It seems most of these engines were made to be recycled and it is a shame. You are truly a patient man.
