Living in Thailand for the last few years, but Buenos Aires actually was my Plan B. I visited in early 2000, and fell in love with the European feel, with great steaks, wines and beautiful women. Glad to see that you are enjoying yourself Paddy.
😮 oh and btw everyone that woman in the cemetery who was depicted in Evita is the world famous political figure Eva Peron. Dear me, the modern day British education system is failing it seems
Hello, the Abasto shoping was the Abasto market, it was the central market of Buenos Aires, the Buenos Aires Abasto Market was a wholesale market for fruits and vegetables. He also sold other grocery items, but not meat. The Mercado de Abasto was inaugurated in 1893 and had an area of 1,300 square meters. In 1903, a refrigerator, an ice factory and a corral for carts and horses were added. The Mercado de Abasto closed in 1984 and the building was unused for years until it was converted into a shopping center.
Great vlog. I was in Buenos Aires in 2004. I loved it there. But just like you guys, only for a few days. Way too short. Such a beautiful city with a European flair, but without the European prices. So modern and full of culture. I particularly loved the La Boca area. I can't wait to go back.
I’m currently looking into a potential move here. I’m not eligible to live and work in Thailand unfortunately. But South America has always been on my radar. My Spanish is conversational and everyone I’ve met travelling the planet that are from this part of the world are always super cool and laid back. But also full of fire and spirit at the same time. And also strikingly beautiful 😍 Good work as per Paddy fella… top man! 👍🏻
BA is great in the middle of winter too! My mother land is Scotland, based in NZ now for over 20 years. On a trip back (during southern hemisphere winter) a few years ago Air New Zealand had direct flights to BA. I took the opportunity to have both stopovers in BA and I absolutely loved it.
its actually the best season to visit the city. I would say between April and November. Autum, winter and Spring. At the moment during the summer is just hot and not many things to do. The city is less crowded as locals are on holidays. Its just more boring in Summer
That place looked amazing. It's nice to see you more relaxed. I think having a buddy with you makes it less stressful for you and that comes through the vlog
That was a great episode! The cemetery was so interesting, and sort of reminded me of Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris, where you could spend hours exploring. The city looks amazing. Love this series. Thanks for sharing your adventures :)
Welcome to Argentina! You like our gastronomy!! no?? The face they put to eat!! Very good value!!! and thanks for spreading part of our culture!! Greetings from Mar del Plata
Hey Paddy thanks for the currency tip in Argentina! Todd and I also love it there and the food. Did you get to San Telmo area? So glad you enjoyed Argentina❤👍
I think they got the shopping center confused and surely the one that recommended them is Galerias Pacifico...The Abasto shopping center was never a train station, it was the old fruit and vegetable market
Absolutely loved this video.... you really do seem very relaxed here. I lived in the patagonia for two years and long to return. BTW, followed you over from your Sri Lanka videos,... we are headed there in two weeks! Que disfrute Argentina!
I don’t know where are you now, but you should definitely go to the magical town of El Bolsón my home town ,and then the route of the seven lakes all this is in central Patagonia in the Andes ! Is the best you will see in Argentina ! Give a change and do a bit the research then you can thank to me! Big hug!
8:46 How is it that Hard Rock Cafe is "not an Argentine thing", when Argentina is a global epicenter of rock & pop. I made a playlist of Argentinian rock whose existence you don't even suspect, and will blow your mind. I can't link to it, but it's on my username channel.
Note that in Argentina that atm fee is expensive, like ten percent or so of the amount withdrawn. Another option for the blue rate for currency exchange is Western Union. Note that there is a daily withdrawal limit with Western Union which varies from city to city. In the big cities around 500 euros or so a day.
Great video Paddy. I loved Argentina in Nov/Dec 2022 and also fell in love with BA. Back then the blue dolor rate was just starting with Visa. So I was exchanging cash at $310 to $1 USD. (Official Rate was around $175). WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES! I came home with a bunch of pesos that are now worth a lot less. LOL
Welcome home, Paddy! Following your videos for such a long time... we are happy to see that you went to my home country! Enjoy it there! We are very welcoming people, have fun!!!
While in Argentina last year, I used western union to complete the currency exchange, it’s very safe/secure and they use the blue rate. It’s just another option if you feel intimidated by using a stranger in the street as your exchange.
Im Argentinian but Im living in Australia, I didn't know about the blue dollar conversion with Visa credit cards. amazing tip. I will never recommend to go in person to exchange dollars, usually in the hotel is much safer
Hey Paddy, just so you're aware the currency has changed dramatically since the new government was elected (mid Dec) so the cost for tourists isn't as favourable as it once was. Might be worth updating that part
Abasto Market used to be the central wholesale market for vegetables and fruits. It is a collosal building from the beginning of the twentieth century.
Hiya. Paddy and Micheal. That is crazy about the currency. Great heads up for others. I love it when Micheal comes traveling with you. You two get on so well. Love the banter. A great friend. And it is lovely for you both to have each other to travel with. That is crap, you left your good sunglasses on the plane. That must get expensive losing that many. You need. Those string things. That hangs around your neck. 555. Beautiful place. Micheal is fantastic. A wonderful friend. Great travel companion. Your burger looked good. I was the same when younger. When I needed a calm place. I would walk around the cemetery. And have those same thoughts as I looked at the headstones. That cemetery is on another level. Strange and very interesting. You two make me smile. That parrot wanted in. Beautiful destination. Your dinner looked lovely. So cheap. Taylor effect. But a good call. In any destination. But with all that, with a friend, I bet it was half as stressful as being alone. I love watching your adventures. Another great video. Can not wait to share it. Have a wonderful weekend. So happy I was able to watch it before you put it out for the premiere. Been a hectic week.
Taylor Swift in South America only did shows in Buenos Aires in Argentina, Rio and Sao Paulo in Brazil, so Swifties from each country and from all the surrounding countries traveled for the shows. I'm glad you liked Buenos Aires!
I know you'll understand Paddy when I say I couldn't get a team of horses to drag my Thai wife into that cemetery. Something like would have never crossed my mind, but I would. definitely love to see that. Beautifully kept up, and oh the stories you could imagine looking at some of those tombs.
HI Paddy! I was wondering if you could tell me where did you get your green backpack. I've been on the hunt for the perfect backpack for my upcoming trip and yours seem great. Love your videos by the way!! Can't wait to see the Patagonia ones!
Great episode Paddy! I think we all enjoyed this one as you returned to your adventurous backpacking roots - finding a good deal, not everything goes to plan, falling in love with a city. As I get older, I take less risks, so I appreciate your vlogs taking us along while you take all the risks. This episode felt less like visiting Michael Epstein Island and more like South America. Cheers 🍻
Michael Epstein Island, thats a good one. Think Michael is getting way to much stick as the poor guy is paying for all this! Instead of growing the channel organically Paddy has cut corners in his pursuit to the top of TH-cam and hoodwinked this silicon valley millionaire Michael into doing all this which looks like it backfired massively.
Just started watching your videos. Brings me back to 2004 in Argentina, back then they also had crippling inflation. Looking forward to more videos. Safe travels. Diarmuid
interesting viewing on many levels. so, at the turn of the 20th century, anticipating world wars coming, my great grandfather set out from Europe searching for a safe home for his wife and 3 daughters. Vancouver, BC and then nearby Seattle, WA were his choices. however, high on his list had been Buenos Aires. one day I asked my grandmother, why I didn't grow up an Argentinian. without hesitation, she replied my great grandfather didn't like the idea of seeing his daughters running off with gauchos!
Hey Paddy! Quick question and somewhat related I guess? What laptop and smartphone do you use these days? My travels restart again soon after 5 years of non-travel! And I want to get my tech right this time after using various Windows laptops / Android phones in the past. I might finally switch over to Apple. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks! S ❤
aahhh the swifty effect - completely unaware of this phenomena in Seattle this past summer, the only time so far that I have ever slept in an airport......no hotel rooms available at any price....good advice, Paddy
Paddy, can you explain more about the money. Where and how did you get your USA currency? can you please explain your strattegy. did you just bring over $1000 cash to Argetina?
Lol, Paddy, you're the only youtuber I've seen that needs a line item in their monthly budget for sunglasses 😂. My wife is trying to give you a run though....cheers!
Disappointing that Michael didn't wait his turn to take the picture.. and respect that other people were waiting there before him..but like you said typically American!!
That currency exchange is crazy. For sure I want the blue rate. Great bit of information. Next question can you take your now 800 back to the official money exchange and get $250 usd. That cemetery was epic even thought I find them a bit spooky. That Taylor Swift is a real party wrecker, right? Hahaha Great video mate.
I would imagine buying US dollars is expensive in Argentina, so i doubt you'll get that deal. The underground foreign exchanges are basically hedging their bets against the Argentine peso. The reason VISA offers a better rate is because it's an American company. The Argentine Peso is worthless outside of Argentina.
we need more time on the process of currency exchanges and the effort it takes to do so. when I went through this ordeal US 》MEX was a nice convenience at the US airport. on the return MEX 》 US, the MEX airport exchange offc was closed, back to same US airport and my exchange was abysmal, a complete mugging. not sure what I learned from that, other than be sure to allow time to shop around for a best rate before I leave.

Great video Paddy! But what happen with the good sound and video, now you are using your phone to record - the surrounding noise overpowers your voice, your phone is skipping frames and the video is choppy, it is a little bit annoying. Sorry for the criticism but I hope this will make you go back to using your camera/Gopro with proper microphone. Please don't take it personally I always admire the quality of your videos! Buenos Aires looks amazing . Such a colourful looking vibe about the place . The Messi burger 🍔 looked delicious. You look very proud in your Newcastle shirt. Good luck with the rest of your trip and if things go south, like you, it will probable be Karma letting you know you should have taken me. Chau.
