- VGC recently got the chance to visit Team Asobi and speak to the team behind Astro Bot, PlayStation's next big exclusive.
In this exclusive footage, VGC got a behind-the-scenes look at the development process of Astro Bot, and learned more about what went into creating Astro as a character.

I don't think they needed to "convince" Sony management, Astro Bot games are what Team Asobi does, and they are much lower budget than the other studios.
Sony lets their teams make the games they want and supports them, that's why the infamous studio can go make Ghost of Tsushima or the Uncharted Studio can go make The Last of Us.

The haptics really set this game apart. When i stood on top of the hot air ballons and i could feel the texture and the sagging of the weight on the balloon wow. When done right the dualsense really shines.
The DualSense Controller is just brilliant and Astro games use it incredibly well. Other games just do the basics. It's a big part of what makes Astro games such a fun experience.
@@RARufus Truth. I had the opportunity to demo *_Astro's Playroom_* at a trade show, and I was ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY by the DualSense controller in about fifteen minutes time.
Unfortunately, very few games make good use of it. Sony REALLY should've pushed devs harder for better DualSense integration in native PS5 games.
This studio develops like a retro studio while one day they probably will do digital for designing its fascinating they still use pen and paper like the old days

I haven't purchased a game DAY ONE in many, many years, much less pay full price. I usually wait for a sale. ASTRO BOT changed that and picking up my preorder in an hour.

The game looks awesome. It's only ps5 exclusive that makes me interested in the console, and reminds me of the classic joy of games I used to play on ps1 and ps2.

Sadly, *_Astro's Playroom_* did more with the DualSense than just about any other PS5 title I can think of. And it was a console-release, pack-in title.
Sony REALLY should've pushed harder for deep DualSense integration in native PS5 games.
Just love that after 30 years PlayStation finally has its own mario that has the same quality in its platforming and puzzles as mario that not even crash bandicoot coukd achieve

I wish they made the rescue mission available for non vr users. I know it's maybe wishful thinking, because it's a primarily a vr title, but it would be cool to see this implemented in the oficial astro bot game down the line as a free dlc
I don't think that could work at all. But I do think it should at least be ported to PSVR2
I hope gaming publishers see this game and also see Concord and realize what tf gamers actually want and like

Why is everyone neglegting Rescue Mission? It was a fully fledge VR game and it was a fantastic game. Team Asobi have not built this game on top Astro's Playroom.

The main stream doesn't care about VR, especially comparing sells, uh 60 million PS5s sold vs PS VR that as sold what maybe 10 million n that's high balling it, so yea basically nobody knows or cares

Unfortunately as a mascot character Astro Bot is not a very good design. He really needs a face. Just glowing eyes on a dark background can't show many emotions. The box art for this game only shows him looking like this:

That's boring! It doesn't exactly make you want to buy the game, which is a shame. Compare Mario and Kirby on the covers of their most recent games (Mario Wonder, Kirby's Forgotten Land). Mario's face says "heck yeah, let's do this!" and Kirby's face says "Wow! What's this over there? (off camera)" The facial expression adds some drama, and it makes you emphasize with the character.
PS1 had 8-bit ass model and still we recognize these characters. They just need build him correctly.
I strongly disagree. Astro bot may not have a face, but his eyes do most of the talking and convey his emotions. The fact that Asobi can still pull this off and give Astro Bot a personality is more impressive than simply putting a face to a mascot. That's the easy approach.
@@anishbasak3117 But the box art looks bad. The face is literally just "^^". In videos it looks better because they can convey some things with body language and sounds, but not having a face is a serious limitation in still shots.
Imagine saying this about a country that has Hello Kitty, a universally recognized Mascot around the world for which the strongest point is to not have a mouth nor expression
About damn time that Sony funded and published a video game, and not some sappy shitty third person overly dramatic cinematic emotional storytelling bullshit
Imagine actually making a video game in 2024. And not a slot machine with gameplay, or a sappy movie that lets you hold forward once in a while
