3 titles without "Bot representation" I thought of are Jet Moto, Twisted Metal and Warhawk. A bot with a white outfit with pink spots and flame hair possibly with a small ice cream truck 'gatcha' would have added just a little bit more to the game for me. Sega got some decent bot representation, even though I relate Rez and Space Channel 5 to the Dreamcast rather than PS2.
It's so hard to resist watching reviews, but l'm going to wait a while before purchasing it. I have other titles to play at the mo. I want to dive in knowing as little about the levels as possible
I finished Astro's Playroom yesterday, and then went back and got the platinum trophy this morning. Spent maybe a total of five hours, enjoyed every bit of it. Astro Bot has me excited, but my backlog is enormous so it might have to wait.
Astro Bot owes a lot to 3D Mario games. I agree with John that is still not at the level of Mario’s best re: control depth (think Odyssey’s hat platforming), but as far as spectacle, joy, whimsy, and tactile feedback, Astro Bot is top tier. I just finished it up this morning and it’s definitely at the top of my list for the year so far.
I'm a bit of a generational luddite. Still happily rocking my launch PS4 and only just recently bought a PSVR and really enjoying that. With the Astro hype around I gave Rescue Mission a try yesterday - what a gem of a game!
I absolutely loved the version that came with the PS5. In fact this is the only game I ever played on the PS5... I pushed this little gem to Platinum. And I love the Playstation Museum.
@johansvensson833 I have watched people in multiple videos since this game launched say they purchased a PS5 just for this game. You can have an opinion, but saying "no dude" based only on your opinion is self-centered and categorically wrong.
On the subject of nitpicks (and these are most assuredly nitpicks, as the game is near flawless, but as the person who asked that question said, "there's always room for improvement", I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more enemy variety along with enemies having perhaps a bit more complexity in terms of how to deal with them. Common enemies that appear throughout the game are pretty much dealt with by either just punching them in the face, or flying over and hitting them with your foot laser-jets. And then the enemies that are unique to the levels that have the helper power-ups are often dealt with simply by using the special ability, without any real trick to it. But I wouldn't call any of this a real complaint about this game...more like things I'd like to see them build on for the next one.
It’s so satisfying to see a high-profile live-service game like Concord bomb and an old-school 3D platformer like Astro Bot become a huge critical success. Don’t have a PS5 but I would absolutely buy a PS5 just for this game, but I’m kind of holding out for that vaguely-mentioned PC port
As of all console in PC Gamer I have rarely been turning my PS5 on except for one VR game how to replay the last of us since I have the other games on PC I will say this astrobots is so much fun it is a game everyone should buy. It's a reason to turn your PS5 on and have a blast. Now I've been gaming since Calico and tardy 2600 even my first console what's pong. But this game just brings back old time fun as a kid that has been lacking in a lot of games. I can't believe it's not selling extremely well because this game is one of those games that is a must buy

@@SpanishMule82 ya, I actually found that for me it helps with some pop but I lost some of the richness in darker areas/levels and the dynamic range. So stuck with normal. But even between those two options I feel Astros playroom had better HDR implementation
I really did like this game. I finished it and platinum’d it. To me, it feels more of an extension of Astro’s Playroom than truly taking that next step for the genre. Rescue Mission proved how good VR games can be. Playroom proved how good the DualSense controller can feel. This game showcases a lot of great ideas but nothing we haven’t experienced already. Also, I kinda wish Astro Bot had a bit more personality than just literally being a mascot for Sony. Maybe having the lore of being this long, lost character Sony never used and trying to prove his worth kind of like a Wreck It Ralph story or something.
I haven't yet played the game, but, for what regards my own, personal, taste, this, Hi-Fi Rush and It Takes Two, to name the first three that come to my mind (and are well known between most of the people, otherwise I'd have some more titles to add straight away), are what I need, in terms of polished presentation. I feel no need for hyper realistic graphics or whatsoever, I just want to see something that looks "clean" (and hopefully fresh/original) on the screen and puts a smile on my face, while playing
We keep comparing Astro to Mario’s best outing. We’re forgetting theres over thirty years of experience for Mario compared to like 6-8 for Astro. Astro Bot 2is going to be crazy
It's interesting that this comes out days before the PS5 Pro announcement. On one hand, Sony is telling us that we want more fidelity. This title firmly tells us that we don't.
The raised blacks at the splash screen I noticed as well, but it looked to me to just be a video file playing. So a problem with the video rendered to the file and not the game itself.
I think something that puts astrobot above the best of both mario and sonic is that it is consistently great. Even in the best marios and sonic games, they tend to have some pretty bad levels (any spring mario level in galaxy, late knuckles levels in the adventure games). Like a low point in astro bot wouldn't register as a low point in one of the best Mario's despite the less depth in the control scheme.
2 questions stay unanswered for me: - When should it release on Microsofts PC? Obviously, Sony won't miss those sales! And I wonder if Astros Playroom is also gonna be released on PC. - Which brings the follow up: Is the PS5 controller fully compatible with PC to experience all the fine details?
As for PS5 PRO.......I'd be kind of afraid of any changes other than res and framerate......its so cloe to perfect as is......extra embellishment could just as easily detract the experience as it could enhance it.....that extra bit of seasoning in the gravy , extra bit of shading in the drawing/painting......that you ultimately wish you didnt add....this game is so good it would be hard to improve IMHO
Yay! A Sony exclusive has made DFs big boy John happy again! You see, the Concord shut down had really upset the big guy but now that’s all changed thanks to Astrobot! Hang in there lunchbox, the PS5 Pro is almost here.
9:30 I'd say that there is one exception to this: When you have to walk across the Blunderjaw to reach the flag at the end of the Horizon level, the polycount/texture resolution on the tail is a little underwhelming.
This clears shows how Sony understand their gamers better than Xbox. We can argue over which consoles have better performance but if there's no game that highlight those strength it will mean nothing to the gamers. Sorry, had to mention Xbox as I was an Xbox gamers and I like what Sony did with Astro Bot. It's simple in term of gameplay and graphics, but it plays to the strength of the console very well.
I love everything about the Astro Bot games apart from the design of Astro Bot himself. Yes, I feel he's cute but a little bland. Like he should be advertising an MP3 player in the 2000s.
In a week where concord shuts down and astro bot releases as a full featured game with no dlc or microtransactions, bug free and the game is great, if you dont support games like astro bot then you forfeit your right to complain about live service garbage.
Or maybe people prefer to support the genre or style they want and not exactly live service like... I myself are skipping robot platformer because I prefer horror, thus I am looking forward to Lempo, Pneumata, A Quiet Place The Road Ahead, The Bridge Curse 2, Dollhouse Beyond The Broken Mirror among others
Astro's playroom gives me no sense of the need of a PS5 Pro, at all. Amazing display of physics, material rendering, draw distance, objects on-screen, lighting and all at a highly accomplished 4K/60fps target. However, if you want to brute force your way through Star Wars Outlaws' terrible optimization and bugginess, or a remastered-remastered version The Last of Us Part 2, then the PS5 Pro is for you! Developers won't care to optimize for your new 800 dollar machine (so you can use those disks you bought for the PS5), but you'll feel like you're the gaming king! On a serious note though... Astrobot is abuot as "next gen" as it gets so far, aside from maybe those insane real-time titanic boss fights in FF16.
This might seem nitpicky, but it stems from my curiosity more than anything. Why does a game like that have any dips whatsoever? In an age of dynamic resolution, shouldn’t the only dip be from CPU limitations? Is this game pushing the ps5 on the CPU side? Is the dynamic res hitting a floor? Why do dynamic res systems have floors at all? The image didn’t look bad whatsoever in that scene, so I fail to understand why not just ditch the floor at all and have the game be perfect. There must be a limitation or a reason I can’t think of. That’s the main reason why I ask.
@@B1u35kyand?. GOTY is supposed to be the best game by technical feats, not lenght or price. Also, Astro Bot is a Plataform Game, and the game's price and lenght is the same for most game in the Genre ( cheaper than some and longer than many, Plataforms has always been around 5-10 hours to beat, only few ones surpass such line and the majority of extra time is to repeat the same levels in Time Trials or unlocking Collectables ). It Takes Two it's a Plataform that won in 2021 and it's just 14 Hours Long 🤷🏻

What Sonic game is John playing where there's "depth" ? Sonic's "momentum system" is broken. Always needing to stop or get hit during those moments moments.. unless you're referring those almost quick time moments when Sonic is speed balling in those chutes.. Momentum is when, if you're good, you can KEEP MOVING. Like in the Donkey Kong Country games. Sonic is the opposite of that. I think he's got his rose colored glasses on.
It's a fantastic experience but to me isn't better than Ratchet and Clank. To me Ratchet and Clank in the PS2/PS3 era blended a coherent narrative with the nice 3D platforming and combat which is easy for everyone to play. But yes Astrobot is great

currently playing it and its amazing.
and it comes with a poster
Your review video convinced me to buy it! It's just delightful!
It's not better than Rift Apart though. Some bold claims early in this vid!
Hope this studio can make something like the Pilot wings game in the similar colorful world as Astro bot.
Smiled so much playing it such a genuinely fun game 🎉🎉
Lets hope this makes publishers to bring back some old school platform icons.
This game would be awesome as well in VR.
Hope they get a V. R update in the near future
And I love the Playstation Museum.
it is great, but i like Ratchet and Clank as much.
Its not a contender its the winner. Theres NO competition. Nothing even comes close in YEARS.
nope FF7 rebirth will win
I'm going to love it when it comes to PC.
The haptics are done so so well. Its a shame no other developer's use the technology in there games as well as Astrobot.
Crazy how we get the first real PS5 system seller not even a week before the announment of the refresh of the console.
Curious if astro bot gets 120fps mode on pro given how well it runs on ps5
no dude this is not a system seller
In case of this game, not being able to play with a Dual Sense controller is kinda missing out on part of the experience.
@@bellissimo4520you can use the Dual Sense on PC.
Playing without the PS5 controller is like missing out on 30% of the exp
Surprised we didnt see any PS5 Pro upgrades presented for the game.
There's not much to upgrade, it's already beautiful on standard PS5
Cause it already looks flawless, only has one highly polished graphics preset
As of all console in PC Gamer I have rarely been turning my PS5 on except for one VR game how to replay the last of us since I have the other games on PC I will say this astrobots is so much fun it is a game everyone should buy. It's a reason to turn your PS5 on and have a blast. Now I've been gaming since Calico and tardy 2600 even my first console what's pong. But this game just brings back old time fun as a kid that has been lacking in a lot of games. I can't believe it's not selling extremely well because this game is one of those games that is a must buy
hopefully this will open the door to knack 3, the knack community has suffered too long without relief! we need to know the fates of Ava, Lucas and Uncle Ryder!!!
This game is better than everything they showed off during the ps5 pro reveal
I'm onto the second galaxy in the game and it's been fantastic so far, i can't believe i'm saying this but it's GOTY material
Is it just me or was the HDR a bit better in Astro's Playroom? More contrast and richer overall
I thought the same. The gamma seems to have raised making dark areas grey. It’s brighter than Astro’s Playroom overall I think.
There is a setting to make it brighter.
@@SpanishMule82 ya, I actually found that for me it helps with some pop but I lost some of the richness in darker areas/levels and the dynamic range. So stuck with normal. But even between those two options I feel Astros playroom had better HDR implementation
Me too! The colors are just washed out… strange… is there any solution?
I turned the hdr off and the colors are much better! I’m going to play this way.
Astro Bot é a revolução trazida pelo Astros Play Room elevada a um patamar supremo, espero que esse jogo seja premiado com o GOTY TGA
Game of the century.
And they didn't use this game as an example on ps5 pro lol
The raised blacks at the splash screen I noticed as well, but it looked to me to just be a video file playing. So a problem with the video rendered to the file and not the game itself.
When PC Guys call a Console Game Perfect.. This is a Historical Moment❕
LOVED THE GAME, but can't understand why the dual sense is under utilized in the rest of the games on ps5?
I would rather have 11 Crash Bandicoot/Spyro/Ratchet & Clank/Jak & Daxter/Sly Cooper/Astro games than 11 online-live-service-shooter games.
Doesn’t come close to It Takes Two for me, but still really enjoying it so far.
I am waiting to see the DF breakdown on PS5pro because if games like this are pristine , then I might get the slim.
2 questions stay unanswered for me:
- When should it release on Microsofts PC?
🎶 AstroBot I am AstroBot 🎶
This clears shows how Sony understand their gamers better than Xbox. We can argue over which consoles have better performance but if there's no game that highlight those strength it will mean nothing to the gamers. Sorry, had to mention Xbox as I was an Xbox gamers and I like what Sony did with Astro Bot. It's simple in term of gameplay and graphics, but it plays to the strength of the console very well.
Sony subsidy
Just a great game.
I love everything about the Astro Bot games apart from the design of Astro Bot himself. Yes, I feel he's cute but a little bland. Like he should be advertising an MP3 player in the 2000s.
This game tops Mario many times over
I've had more sheer fun with this game than I've had in years, so it's GOTY for me easily.
Screw the PS5pro, give us more of this!
The real question is... what people like from any game of Sonic ??
Astro bot by being great shows the problem with modern video games. It takes the bloat and says no to it. Short and sweet.
That’s the main reason why I ask.
got the plat, goty
If Astro doesn't win GOTY, gaming is over
The game is like 12 hours long
@@B1u35ky So what?
Same script ponies keep saying each year... For spiderman 2, last of us and god of war.... Nothing changes in ponies
It Takes Two it's a Plataform that won in 2021 and it's just 14 Hours Long 🤷🏻
@@Ballistic-vn6em it’s expensive for a 12 hour game that isn’t replayable. That alone makes it not.
Screw contender, i hope it wins!
It just occurred to me that all the bots that you rescue during the game should and maybe will also become collectible shelf figures. There's money to be made there...
I said that to Sony when they revealed it. They should have made a collecters edition that came with an Astro Bot figure and his face was an LED screen that did stuff.
I click and like all Astro bot videos
But yes Astrobot is great
Cerny must be so jealous, this game looks like what Knack was supposed to be
I doubt it'll come to PC, but I'm hoping it does
Even if it doesn't come to PC, it might make Microsoft do something with Banjo-Kazooie and other Nintendo64-era Rare IPs. And those WILL be on PC. And Nintendo.
@@Gemageosand they will fuck it up like they did with Banjo Nuts and bolts.
Imagine Astro Bot in a 120fps mode 😮
Hopefully the pro can at least target it!
The only PS5 exclusive I've been excited to play. Here's hoping it comes to PC.
It,is game of the year… Playroom was arguably PS5 game of launch/life due to the creativity, gameplay and excellence with the hardware. Astro Bot is far better - so it’s best PS5 game by a mile.
