The movie did indeed suck. It left key characters out from the book, and gave Aaliyah a short screen time for being a main character. I only watched to see her. She did a good job.

Aaliyah was 1 year older than me so she was popular during the high school days and post grad, the prime time for relationships. Aaliyah was relatable being our age and making songs all young couples loved and she was like omnipresent in my youth. The girlfriend I never had but always adored. Fast forward to 2000 they come to my home city Vancouver BC to film a movie I watched a million times. She takes me into amazing journeys into the past when I think of her, see her, her movies or her music. She was all over me and everyone taking over the world. The presence was so undeniable. It wasn’t till my friends and I were packed in my 85 prelude around 3am going to an after party at my friends house on a hot summer night with the sunroof open while listening to DJ Tiesto or some house music on this bumpin station and the song fades out as the radio DJs say we have an announcement, there was a plane crash in the Bahamas. I was on lougheed highway heading westbound right lane just crossed shaughnessy st but wasn’t quite at the stream bridge yet when the announcement came. It was about 3:15am and I told all my friends high on E to SHUTUP SHUTUP SHUTUP shh and turned the radio up. I hurt for someone I’d never met. That was the only time it happened. I love prince but I didn’t hurt when he passed. I’m white but colour got to do with it. Aaliyah is legend for saying her name is pronounced like Ali’s name. Champ say hi to the princess for me.
