I’m a 38 yo man from Finland who loved growing up with Guns n Roses, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, 2pac, Dr Dre and I’ve loved Aaliyah since the 90’s. MTV changed our lives everywhere in the world and I’m sure there are many like me. Genre doesn’t matter when you’re one in a million. Love her ❤️

Facts 💯 90s adolescenr from the hood lol who grew up listening to different genre's Aaliyah was one of my faves , also Pac, biggie, nirvana, guns & roses aerosmith, stone temple pilots, dmx,Mary j blige, sade, Linkin park, the list goes on ,my heart broke 💔 when Aaliyah passed but if I don't know anything I know she's with The Most High 💯🙏🏽 sometimes I wish I could go back in time .

@@angelodicks6619 I was very young when she passed. Nine years old...but, she was *ICONIC.* I remember that day...
The other artists/bands you named, I grew up on too. Biggie, Pac, Linkin Park, Greenday, Mary J. Blige...the list truly goes on. Heck, I remember when "Now that's what I call music" CD's came out 🤣
Genres...I think we all find something in every single one that we like! Its art and it speaks to you. 🖤
Also...can't lie, I wish it was that era or like it still. The 90s were like the last good decade, in my opinion.

I never in my life read or heard one negative comment about Aaliyah. Mostly people do that after someone dies, but with her it was also when she still lived, people only had nice things to say about her. Everything was beautiful about her, her voice, style, hair, intelligence, acting, lyrics, video's, work ethic, behaviour, her respect for people, but most importantly her soul. RIP

She was taken far too soon but God knows best because she passed just 2 weeks shy of 9/11 and before the world turned to crap, which is way worse now. She was too good for this cold world and God needed her. That is the only thing I can say to justify her untimely and tragic death. She was and always will be my #1 fav female artist. No one since has or will ever come close to her. She was the total package, natural beauty, brains, class and talent.

You left out the part that Aaliyah owned her apartment in NYC. I believe this is a very important fact, one reason is because it was unheard at that time for young people to embrace homeownership. Since purchased it in 1998 I believe she put 200k down on a conventional loan. She was really brilliant besides that this was a great watch thank you posting 👏🏽

I was 10 years old when she died. While everyone was grieving over her at that time I didn't but when I was 27 that's when I started grieving over her. It taught me that if you don't grieve over a person at that moment be it a loved one or whoever then it will catch up with you later on in life. You'll start grieving over a person a lot late.

Same. My parents called me at school because they wanted to let me know. I'll never forget that day. I remember hanging up on them pissed, saying you don't know what you're talking about. But within an hour it was making it's way through school and my heart was broken. No other celebrity death has ever impacted me like that. And honestly, it's always impacted me. Aaliyah was just different. She had an almost spiritual or other worldly way of sticking with people. All types of people too. Everyone that ever met her loved her too.

When I am listening to this and hearing about all the family that loved and cared for her and how they were around her, I don’t understand how no one protected her from R. Kelly, NO ONE caught on to his predatory ways. Someone in her life, had to see something or felt something…..Aliyah was barely a teenager when she started working with R Kelly, the rumors were already out there about him hanging around his old high school and picking up young ladies, not knowing if the rumors were true or not would be something I would need to know. If for any reason I could not get the truth, then I would insist on being with my child or teenager at all times. If Kelly couldn’t handle that, we would find another way. Your child’s safety and protection come first. ALWAYS
She even had family members in the music business!🤷🏾‍♀️
What happened to her should have never happened to her, I am speaking about her having sex with Kelly and getting married to him at such a young age. Where was the family when all that BS was going down??😡😡😡

Beauty and talent will attract predators and jealousy. It seems the world doesn't realize that women can be fiercely jealous of other women especially if they see them as competition. Add a man into the mix, and jealousy will go through the roof. Jealousy is a very ugly emotion, especially if it's out of control and acted on.

I responded the below to a comment, but wanted to share on the main thread as well....
The story they told us about her death is just that... A story. If they didn't make up the entire story, they at least left very important pieces out that would change the narrative around her death entirely. All I know is Aaliyah died way too soon and other people benefitted a tremendous deal because of her early death. We love you Aaliyah and you deserved so much better.
Barry Hankerson, after her death, got a $90 million settlement from a wrongful death suite he filed on the additional recent insurance he got on Aaliyah just prior to her death. Things that make you go hmmm.
Important to note that at the time around Aaliyah's death, Blackground Records was no longer functioning as a record label. They couldn't push their artists at the time and refused to let them out of their contracts as well. Jojo, for example, had to fight the record label in court for years almost entirely ending her career.
Also important to note, Aaliyah's discography was never released to streaming platforms by Barry. Finally they have been, but only after he reached a very lucrative deal with a different company that put them on the streaming platforms. He also made new Aaliyah cartoon videos and lots of merchandise to coincide with the releases - to make even more money off of her. Her mother released a statement against the releases.... For no other reason than she was upset "the estate" didn't get money from the distribution deal that was made.
They all suck. But it seems life has given them what they deserve. All I know is Aaliyah deserved so much better than all of them. And certainly R Kelly as well. Which is another point off what you mention.... Think about her uncle and family being so involved in her career, her uncle connecting her to R Kelly, all the while all understanding that he sought out young girls/children... And her parents fought to get their marriage annulled only after determining it would negatively impact the progress in her career. Now that the world knew she was being groomed and abused by R Kelly who is just under 30 and she's not even 18, they had to step in and take action. But, they also got a lot of money in an agreement they made with R Kelly in an NDA it's known they signed.
    They are all a joke.

    • @Philly4Really
      @Philly4Really ปีที่แล้ว

Also, when Aaliyah mentioned what she and her mother did together in a few interviews.... She always responded that they loved to shop, shop everywhere, anytime they got to spend time together. No surprise there.
Aaliyah was getting the Britney Spears treatment from everyone around her. From very early in life on.

People seem so impressed when they actually see a family that’s by all appearances, “normal?”
Their family dynamic is the very dynamic I was exposed to growing up? Normal families.
Normal ppl living an “extra-ordinary” existence. Close siblings; that’s a norm where I come from. Loving parents; I had them…And so did a lot of my friends.
OTHERS make certain things out to be maybe, more than they were/are.
Aaliyah was very talented; no question. To hear these men express their internalizations of how she affected them, is typical.
It’s a #story that has all of the #meat, to expound on….even after the focus is no longer with us.
People affect people! To what extent they impact others varies. She was placed on a platform to #affect a lot of ppl. That’s what is done with celebrities. Placed on pedestals to “affect” the viewer.
She did that. Unfortunately cut-down too soon…Says Man! We all have a beginning and an end.

Her uncle is wicked. He got 90 million off her death and took his friend out to eat that night. It’s on video and the guy is just laughing saying “ we ate good that night”. We all know she was killed and it wasnt no accident. If the pilot was a so-called druggie then how did he know the plane was overloaded and KNEW not to fly the plane. The story will never make sense to me ESPECIALLY cause Aaliyah hated flying and she was scared to fly so after being told the plane was overloaded why would she push to still fly knowing the risk….SHE DIDN’T!! Her uncle, hype and other people that was suppose to be on her team set her up.

What is the deal with people against cremations? Her soul is not in her body anymore, and going through a plane crash, I would assume they didn’t have an open casket. I wouldn’t want to pay thousands and thousands of dollars for a burial, for someone to rot in the ground with worms 🪱 eating their dead carcass in their casket. Tf
