- The 2023 Dakar was the 45th running of this world famous desert rally raid and I joined the Audi Motorsport team out in Saudi to see what it takes to race at the highest level on this gruelling 9000km, 15-day event.

This channel deserves at least 5 million followers and 1 million views per video. It is not there yet because Harry doesn't play the TH-cam dance with clickbait thumbnails and titles. But he will get there eventually taking the harder better road.

The best moment in Dakar ever is Jan de Rooy in the DAF Turbo Twin passing Ari Vattanen in the Peugeot with 200 km/h god what a memory!!

"No one tries to win the classic, they just take part to enjoy it." I love that, just a lot of people in vehicles having a great time. The driver vs. nature style of Dakar where even just finishing it is an accomplishment is really cool. Excellent video, Harry makes it special with his massive enthusiasm and knowledge. The Dakar trucks are probably my favourite bit! (Well, the helicopters too). Love seeing them humping along at silly speeds in that terrain.

I love the camera work and editing on this. One can appreciate the beauty of the places and the atmosphere. None of the official "Dakar" bullshit angles and ADHD cuts. Funny having been following The Dakar Rally since the early days when I could only see it via an old Duke Video over and over again. Seeing it every new year and now following the race online as it happens. Nice to see a true enthusiast with his muddy boots on the ground, showing us behind the scenes. Well done Harry on another great video.
Yeah, same. I found it through bikes, discovered the trucks then evolved to the helicopters. Many years later had some contact with Rally-Raid UK through their use of the BMW 6-pot TD.

This camera man sometimes was too focused on somehow constantly showing Harry's face (that's how some camera men are, 'reality is a look into another mans face') - a little more look on some technical detail would have been nice as well.

Don't agree fully, Harry is an old man, that's why he isn't bringing his/having a drone (at hand) showing US an arial from time to time. Maybe with a little help of the Saudi Airforce.
@@JamesBrown-ux9ds Harry is not 'an old man'! Show some respect, Sir! I very much doubt that Harry would have been allowed to fly a drone or even get permission from the Saudi authorities. Especially with very low-flying helicopters chasing the lead vehicles...

This is the first year I actively followed the Dakar, an insane rally and a brilliant pastime for the F1 off season, this video was the cherry on the top for me, thanks! I'm really stoked for next year.

Fantastic video, thanks for that. Personally the Dakar lost some of its magic when it stopped actually running to Dakar. But that takes nothing away from the skill, guts and resilience of all of the competitors. Dave R is right to call it the Everest of Motorsport. That last shot of the Audi running along the side of the dune was stunning.

As a super-fan of the Dakar since the mid/late 80s this was a real treat to see! Very cool to see the rally from a spectator's point of view. Great video - hope you get the chance to repeat it next time.

Fabulous video and seriously infectious enthusiasm. Years back coming north from a ski trip, driving on the Peage we encountered the Dakar rally cars heading south from Paris. Every toll booth was the trigger for the cars to drag race not only each other but many of the regular drivers. The police didn't seem bothered at all.

I'm not in this league, but I drove the old-school East African Safari twice in the '80s [once 'wet', once 'dry'] and finished both times, but only just (we were eleven hours late on the wet event).
I'd love to try the modern Dakar, but tackling those dunes at speed is daunting. It's ridiculous but true to think that even if my car survived, I could be forced out of the event by my sports bra's suspension failing. 🤭

Very interesting, Harry. Thankyou. Farm in Australia. Got interested in rallying as a kid in my early teens when the London to Sydney Marathon of 1968 passed through our farm on a competitive stage. Still ranks right up there in my memory.

Brought back memories of watching a Duke vhs on the 1989 Paris Dakar, won by Ari Vatanen in a 405 Turbo 16. I was 8 and thought it was the coolest thing ever

It must be an awesome experience watching and competing in an event like that. A few years ago, were in the middle of Morrocco and were woken early to the sound of serious engine noises just outside our rooms. Turned out it was Team Cummins France, and another truck team and Team KTM doing some training on the dunes around our hotel prior to that years Dakhr. Impressive to watch them thrash around, but more impressive watching the trucks and bike fly into the hotel car park, up on the jacks, wheels off, suspension changed and out again in less time it too to have a couple of sips on the morning Flat White...Bloody impressive, and super envious of you mate.
