  • In today’s video we’re doing a POV Drive and Overview with the new 2024 BMW X5 LCI! The X5 is thoroughly redesigned for the 2024 model year (for which it received an LCI update), and in this video, we’ll talk about those changes and how they do - or don’t - affect the driving experience. Please let us know in the comments if you like this new POV driving style of video!

    Ronnie, I appreciate your comments comparing the driving dynamics of the X3 vs. the X5. I've not driven either but have been considering the X3 M40i vs. the 2024 X5 so your perspective and experience is very helpful. Thanks for the great driving review.

      Glad you were able to get some valuable insight from the video, and thank you for the positive feedback! Those are both great cars, and since they share a powertrain, it will really come down to size/space and whether you value comfort (X5) or sportier dynamics (X3 M40i).

    You really make some great videos. They’ve been very informative and were very helpful when deciding on a car. I just ordered a 2024 X5 in Tanzanite blue.
    Ended up ordering as it was hard to find one with the multi-contour seats in the SF Bay Area. I learned about those from one of your videos and they are sublime. Had to have that option.
    Anyways. Thank you. You’ve been a great source of info and a real asset to your dealership and BMW USA.

    Ronnie, your videos are awesome and very informative. I would like to see a demo/your view on Active Driving Assistant Pro and Highway Assistant. How autonomous is it? or is it simply Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)?

      Thank you, we appreciate the positive feedback! We made this video that demonstrates the Driving Assistance Professional Package on a MY22 7 series: th-cam.com/video/-ny9cz3Q1F4/w-d-xo.html This isn't the most up-to-date system that is available on ID8 equipped cars, but it works quite similarly. The only thing we didn't demonstrate in that video -- which we should have -- is the lane change assistant, which will change lanes for you based on the driver activating the turn signal, and the Traffic Jam Assistant. This basically covers what you referenced, ACC and Lane Keep, but the newest system can do more than that. Perhaps we'll demonstrate in an upcoming video!

    I'd want to get the phev, but I wish BMW would have a phev for the X6 as well!
    Also, why can't you get the B&W stereo on the phev? It sounds like people in Europe can spec it that way.

    • @bmwofmorristown9038
      @bmwofmorristown9038  ปีที่แล้ว

      The PHEV, especially after the LCI, is definitely a very compelling choice. It would be nice if they offered that drivetrain in the X6, but I understand why they don't. It would be a very niche market car. According to the BMW build-your-own site as of right now, B&W isn't available on any X5 besides the X5M.

    Hi
    Thanks for your review. I have a 2024 X5 40i Sport package in production right now. I opted for the 20 in wheels. I Am thinking of upgrading to after market 21 in wheels. Do you think ride quality will sacrifice with this change? I have heard 22 in wheel has a stiffer ride.
    Thanks

    • @bmwofmorristown9038
      @bmwofmorristown9038  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The larger the diameter of the wheel, and thus, the thinner the sidewall of the tire, the more harsh the ride will be. The change from a 21 to a 22 won't be too noticeable, but you probably will feel it. In my opinion, it isn't too much of a ride quality sacrifice but that is a totally subjective decision.

    Question, the 2023 model shows "Adaptive" next to the drive mode selector (adaptive dampers were standard from what I understand). The 2024 model does not show that, does this mean the new model does not come with adaptive dampers as standard?

    • @bmwofmorristown9038
      @bmwofmorristown9038  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adaptive suspension was only standard on 2023 X5 45e's not any other X5 models. For 2024, it is standard on only X5 M60i and nothing else, and is available as part of M sport package on other models (except 50e). So the adaptive suspension is still there, the adaptive drive mode button just isn't.

    My only complaint about my m340i is seat comfort. I noticed the x5 seats look more seat cushion. That’s okay as it is a SUV vs a Sport Sedan. Wish I had looked up X5 before signing on another lease for a 2024 m340i model. I also want the ride height and visibility. I actually test drove a Chevy Tahoe. Maybe I am finally getting old.

      You're right, but they do sometimes tweak things without really publicizing or officially confirming those tweaks... I suspect that's what went on with the steering here. iDrive 8 definitely takes some getting used to, but like you said, you'll "get over it" or even better, hopefully, you'll warm up to it. It works quite well in the time that I've spent with it.

    • @bmwofmorristown9038

      The ride is very smooth. It's not harsh at all, and absorbs bumps and road imperfections very well. It doesn't bounce very much at all either and re-settles itself nicely after big bumps. Overall the ride is very nice, it's one of the X5's best features in my opinion!

    Hello,
    I have a x3 M40i. If i buy a X5 40i, is there a big gap in performamce?
    I like the new X5, and i d like to have a more comfortable car, but i m worried it is to "slow", coming from the lighter X3 M40i.

    • @bmwofmorristown9038
      @bmwofmorristown9038  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In terms of acceleration performance, there isn't a huge difference. The 0-60 times show a 0.9 second difference, which is big on paper, but in the real world, the difference isn't that significant in the X3's favor. The X5 will satisfy your desire for a more comfortable car, but you'll be making a significant sacrifice in terms of handling - the X5 is less athletic and nimble, but more comfortable and compliant. All depends on what you're looking for!

    what is the exterior color of the vehicle in this vedieo?

  • @KGBanksy
    @KGBanksy ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The exterior and interior of G05 are more masculine and brutal, in my opinion. I do not like the new dashboard (hello Mercedes!) with a lot of virtual buttons and sliders, as I can see. I like more mechanical buttons, since they look much better and behave more secure in extreme situations. I also do not like the new gear lever. Otherwise, it is really cool car. The driving dynamics of X5 is better than the ones of 90% of cars. Otherwise, it would not be X5.

    • @bmwofmorristown9038
      @bmwofmorristown9038  ปีที่แล้ว

      The new dashboard is definitely polarizing, but we've come around on it, and quite like it now that we've all spent some time with it. Same goes for the gear lever. They both just take some getting used to. And agreed, the driving dynamics are great!

    • @21Pogon
      @21Pogon ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the screen, with those sharp edges really pains the eyes, not to mention I have seen photos of sunsets glaring from sunroof into the screen rendering it unwatchable. The gear lever is also a far cry from Toyota and adds no aesthetic value, but the external update and the seats are great. Just wish they kept the previous torpedo dash where everything is separated, dash is deep and hidden from light, edges are waved down or rounded to connect with the dash better, and physical buttons ofcourse. This is what happens though when marketing rules the design decisions, to get customers from other brands that are used to such trash to come and convert.

    Till today the F-15 X5 is the most sold and successful X5 in almost all aspects of a good car including; engine, interior, exterior, and technology (considering its period of release 2014 -2018). The 2019 model however was shockingly downgraded when it comes to design as well as the limited space in the interior not to mention the new awkward speedometer!! The sales men and technicians of BMW also prefere the F-15 over the older and newer generations for many other reasons. This 2024 model made it easy for me that the X5 is no longer an option in my future wish list. BTW, I'm 2016 X5 M cut owner, plus a BMW fan.

    • @bmwofmorristown9038
      @bmwofmorristown9038  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally can understand preferring an older model, but from a technical perspective (and in the eyes of most, design wise too) the G05 is a far superior car to the generation of X5 that it replaced. More comfortable, quieter, more powerful, more reliable, better build quality, better materials... the list goes on. The F15 is a good car, the G05 is really significantly better, in all of those ways mentioned about. That said, the G80 is technically better than the F80 in all of those ways too, but many would still prefer the F80... it's all personal preference, and that can't be argued with!

    I own an X4 so I'm not ranting out of spite. But man, that tablet on the dashboard looks horrible, the no gear shifter even more horrible and lack of physical buttons equally horrible. At this point I might aswell get a GLE for the next car since BMW has lost it's way completely. They are trying to copy some stupid trends while cutting costs and calling it pretty at the same time. But they are failing miserably. Might as well go with the ones that do it better if that's how it's gonna be.

    • @bmwofmorristown9038
      @bmwofmorristown9038  ปีที่แล้ว

      GLE has a 4-cylinder. Drive one then drive an X5 and see how they compare. You'll forget about the dash and lack of shifter :) I originally had the same thoughts about iDrive 8 and the shifter going away, I wasn't a fan. But as I've gotten used to the cars and spent more time with them with these features, I've totally gotten used to them and like them in these cars. I do love a traditional gauge cluster with two round dials, but with the way the industry is going (most new luxury cars have this type of dash) BMW had to go this route and they've done a good job.
