  • A noise gate can get rid of single coil hum and of course a drive pedal's or the amp's noise. Let's see how and where to put the gate depending on the source of the noise.

I have the Behringer “clone” of the Boss Noise Gate on my board, just to tame the dirt pedals in the loop. A good use of about $20-30 used. Sure it’s plastic, but the case probably could take being run over by a tank with no major issues

    Hello Kris,
i've a Catalyst 200 and Helix Floor. What Settings should i use for default for Treshold and Decay in the Noise Gates? In Helix i've 2 options (Input and a Noise Gate Effekt Block). What is the best option for Helix? Noise Gate in Input Settings or Noise Gate Effekt Block?

But what if it's all of those things causing the noise?

Then try it at the beginning of the signal chain right after the guitar) and then at the end too. Which ever works best for your rig is the right place for the gate. Cheers //Kris

And what about noise suppressors? They are not noise gates, right?

Hi, it depends. Technically a noise suppressor is different. The BOSS NS-2 is called Noise Suppressor though, even though that's a noise gate. So it's confusing a little, haha! A noise suppressor filters out a bit of noise from the signal too, a gate only cuts (mutes) the noise between the playing parts. I hope that makes sense. //Kris

@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Thanks for the answer. I hope to see a video about the two different pedals here in the future. Bye!
