Nice to see another video from you Andrew, I wondered where you had gone. I thought maybe those pile of books had fell over and crushed you! As usual I find myself agreeing with you on things you say. I'm also a sucker for all those old adds in the comics we all loved. I would even include the UK adverts as well to be honest, as there was always something irresistible and exciting about them as a kid that lured me in every time! Amazingly enough my first Fantastic Four issue I remember buying was 134. Not long after you started Andrew! Great minds etc...😊 Little seven year old me couldn't resist giant monsters, so that Dragon Man cover got me begging my Mom to buy it for me. In fact, the only other American comic I can remember getting in those days was Astonishing Tales 122 with "It the Living Colossus" reprint (yet another giant monster). Up till then I had only been getting The Mighty World of Marvel and Spider-Man weekly so the difference in artwork in that Fantastic Four comic blew my tiny mind! I had only been used to the early Jack Kirby version up until then, so it was a candy for my eyes I can tell you! I know that a lot of people look upon those early 70's issues as a poor imitation of the (admittedly) epic classic Kirby/Lee stories that came years before, but I for one am very fond of that run and must have been just the right age for them to make their mark on me. I absolutely LOVE the Buscema/Sinnott team and the Rich Buckler stuff was worthy as well followed by a young George Perez, I don't think you can go far wrong. But that's just my impression I suppose. I actually ended up reading most of those stories in the UK Complete Fantastic Four comic and still have them boxed away somewhere even though my Mom persuaded me to get rid of most of my comics at one point...😢 I know, we've all been there, but it still hurts... Anyway, off topic Andrew I just wanted to ask you if you saw my last post from your previous haul video? If you haven't I hope you do go and look at it as it pertains to those Ka-Zar comics you wanted to see reprinted. Stuff you definitely need to know! Anyway, I've gone on long enough again and if I had the money then I would buy anything classic Fantastic Four but these days have to rely on digital versions or tatty reprints. Both of which are good enough for me in the end, because as I have said before, it's the story I'm interested in not the investment! Bye for now Andrew, and I wonder if like me you never forgave Crystal for choosing Quicksilver rather than Johnny Storm? Ooooh that low down hussy!😞All the best, and Happy Christmas!
Great reply. We must be around the same age. My mum and dad were very supportive and at one point she was sad when my old MWOM got damaged in the rain during a house building When i was a kid i used to think the UK reprints were worth more than the US on the spinner rack comics So much so I was a snob about it LOL
Yes, saw the Ka-zar comment. I have a lot of them in the original comics and would love to see them in omni and not just the MMW set of books. I love tatty or coverless and some of my Ka-zar ones are like that. I occasionally dip into digital but I still prefer reading the physical (as long as I can afford them) I agree, never will forgive quicksilver .... though he was always an interesting character I bought those Astonishing Tales as well, they have been collected in the Marvel Horrors, It! only had a few stories though Yes, still got a bit of a sniffle, colds always seem to linger and make it hard to do a video when you are coughing and sniffing throughout the video. Also, haven't bought a huge number of videos and did a few (never released) on decluttering books as I am going through a mass cleanup of everything in the house, all the things that have been sitting there for years and years and never actually being used. Would love to see a UK adverts / Marvel book but I doubt if that will happen, but I can imagine an abrams comicarts book on their adverts especially after their recent value stamps one as well as calendar book. Still would love to see a proper Foom omnibus though or perhaps comicarts volume ??
I collect Epics instead of Omnis because they are easier to hold while sitting in a comfy chair. They give me the same feeling as reading comic books as a kid back in the day. I only get Onmis of things that are not available in Epics. For me the cut off point of Marvel will be 1992, so I plan to collect everything up to then, as well as the earlier Timely and Atlas stuff. There is still a few Fantastic Four Epics I don't have yet, so I am hoping Marvel does a reprint of them soon.
I love epics as well, they are a lot easier to store and walk around with and read in a comfy chair. Still more a fan of the omnis though. I don't think I have a cutoff but I generally aim to get most of the 60s and 70s material (though not everything). I would also get all the timely / atlas if they ever release them (I am collecting the atlas series from fantagraphics - they are lighter than omnis)
fun video buddy, ive prolly ordered at least 100 books just from you showing them, lol, many i didnt know about, i lovebooks like you, the making of and behind the scenes are great
Thank you, Andrew. FF #149 was my first issue, so that one is significant to me. My older brother had been a fan of the 1960s animated series, so we were both interested to check out what was happening in the comic books. I think Marvel is doing a very good job in collecting their Bronze material. Regarding DC Finest, my local bookshop had all but the Justice Society volume in stock. In a way I was relieved, because I'd be *very* tempted to buy it despite owning the All-Star Archives books...! 😉 Would you please check for me to see if the DC brand symbol (circle) is present the cover repro of All-Star #3 in there, as it was missing in Archive vol. 1 (also absent on the Millennium Edition)? Thanks and Happy Holidays ~~ Jim
DC logo is on the covers of the 3 and 4 etc - just done a review of the book. I haven't got the archive to compare it. My first issue was 132, I bought 149, 150 etc - great issues. Happy Xmas
Yes, seem to be through it now but certain the colds are out there waiting for the new year parties and seeing friends or just plain travelling up to London. Hope you had a great xmas
also, i know its expensive book, been looking for behind the scenes the good the bad and the ugly, cant find anywhere, if have, please do a video on buddy, thanks
I always preferred Kirby and Ditko over Buscema and Romita. The originals had a funky and fun style to them that I liked a lot. I bought and collected the later issues drawn by Buscema and Romita, but their slick style of art didn't really appeal to me as much as Kirby and Ditko.
That’s understandable I remember in the old UK reprints a jarring effect it was when there was a switch from Kirby Thor to an Adam’s issue. For me Thor just didn’t look right at the time. Don’t know what issue it was just the images are still in my mind.
I certainly have favourite images of the characters in my mind, sometimes you see an artist change the image so much it barely looks like the 'Thor' or 'Reed Richards' etc. It does jar and I guess if you see the 70s ones and then get the older 60s ones, they are very different.
Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays!
Happy Holidays - hope you have a wonderful festive time
Nice overview, but you may want to update the title to emphasize Vol. 5. 😉
thank you, didn't notice that I had put 6 ... oops
I can see a growing pile of DCs finest behind you three, Will you be reviewing these?
Once I have read them, I have a review to put up of the JSA one as that was a great read as I am a big fan of the GA material

Always love the making of books, got a number of those. Glad my videos have been of interest.

In July I hope you do a review of the FF movie
I hope to see it as well !
Almost thought you left on holiday. 😂
No such luck, just a runny nose but that always means I struggle with videos
@@AndrewBuckleBookReviewsWe are all in the “no such luck” stage. 😆

Haven't got that one, sounds good though (love those three films - can't beat Clint)
