As a German, James did indeed make great Videos on RUF, Gemballa, AMG etc. but Europe has much more than that, including even older ones like one of the first Tuners ever "Kamei" of Karl Meier, who showed their first tuned Volkswagen Beetle in 1952 at the Geneva Motor Show. There are so many! And some will probably hard to find Footage and Info on unless you speak German. Also all the Italian ones. Extremely glad you mentioned these old American companies, I always felt Yenko, Callaway and etc. were the old school equivalents to companies like HKS, TommyKaira, etc. If anyone needed a reminder, old school muscle had just as much style and fun as 90's JDM, just largely before our time.

OMG I can’t believe you guys included that Covert Tuning Murci, “The Stig” as they called it. Man… you should do a deep dive in to that train wreck of a situation. The turbo kit looked ridiculous. I think pretty much every other Lambo tuner around at the time called them out to prove their claims on the dyno and the standing mile. There is hardly any video of that car moving under its own power. I think like ONE video was eventually uploaded of it running “low boost” while undergoing tuning and not coming anywhere close to their horsepower claims. Good memories.

We've become a lot more efficient in squeezing out power from gasoline and converting it to power on the ground. That means less energy lost in emissions, and we can afford to get the same if not better power without just dumping more and more displacement into big blocks.

All the news is talking about electric cars and here I am finally living out the hp wars that made the late fifties to the early seventies so iconic for me as a car enthusiast. Loving every second of it and can’t wait to see what the manufacturers can do, but most of all the aftermarket support. Love this time and it probably won’t happen again in my lifetime. Gotta love it!

My parents took us to Disneyland in the 70’s for the first time. Being from Oregon it was a LONG drive at 55-60 mph. As a NC native I can confirm we know fast. In a sense that we'll put a 6 speed trans on supercharged v8's that won't turn for shit.

We've become a lot more efficient in squeezing out power from gasoline and converting it to power on the ground. That means less energy lost in emissions, and we can afford to get the same if not better power without just dumping more and more displacement into big blocks.

It was R&T or C&D that had a great article on the Sledgehammer when it appeared. On the test track, when it only reached 226 (iirc) MPH, Reeves Callaway said there must be a problem. His calculations said it should go much faster. So the brought it in to check it, and they found that only 6 of the 8 cylinders had been firing. After it was fixed, it did 255 MPH. And it looked awesome.

My parents took us to Disneyland in the 70’s for the first time. Being from Oregon it was a LONG drive at 55-60 mph. The CHP’s were ticketing anyone going over 60 back then, so imagine traveling most of the length of California going 55. Compared to today, it felt like you could get out and walk faster.
