Stop, Scope, Flick, Fire: How a YouTuber With No Closer Brought CS:GO To The Masses

  • Let's face it: if Counter-Strike’s tutorial was a swimming instructor, it would take you out to the middle of the Bermuda Triangle, inject you with an unknown substance, throw you into the water and whisper the word “swim.”
Of course, you can play with more experienced friends, but even then, chances are you’re going to struggle.
But, fortunately for all of us, there is someone who has tried to change all that. His name is Brent.
But you all know him as “TheWarOwl.” A head-clicking enthusiast turned CS samaritan who has been trying to better the game’s playerbase for nearly a decade.

No one in the pro scene was able to make it as simple to understand as WarOwl did. He makes extremely thoughtful and well put together content. It’s more than just “you throw this smoke for the memes then you entry frag clutch up push the smoke stewie2k style and hit jumping jaun taps.” He teaches the basic fundamentals of the game and how to improve match over match consistently.

I gotta go to a CS tourney and meet this man. I don't even play the game that much anymore, more focused on pissing myself off with Apex than CS, but the amount of joy he's brought me in debatably the hardest years of my life so far cannot go ignored. WarOwl, I love you man. I hope you're able to keep doing what you do for years to come :)

Gaming was frowned upon in my family growing up, particularly if it required money, and CS was the first game I bought when I got to college because of how much I loved WarOwl’s videos. He is the only youtuber I will drop what I’m doing to watch a nee video from, and for good reason

I've been following his content for a long time now. I see him as a real ambassador for the game with his positive attitude and staying away from controversies and drama. I hope he continues to grow. He deserves all the success he's gotten so far and the community also needs someone like him.
