Thank you, I have been totally thrilled by this rendition of this song since I first heard the earlier version of it recorded for the library of Congress when I was just 14 or 15 in 1961 or 62 when I found it as on one of the libraryt of Congress records in the public lbrary in Hartford, I have heard thousands of other banjo playing recordings and become a banjoist myself, but very few other recordings will bring to me the joy and wonder as this, Folkways, I guess it is Smithsonian Folkways now has a complete CD album of Pete singing and playing the banjo and singings some songs together with his wife. It should be in every home! Thanks for posting this because I hope it wil bring new people this righteous music!

Do you know which episode of Rainbow Quest this footage was on? I think I watched them all but I can't remember seeing this footage. Might have just forgot.

I actually do not know which episode. What I do know is that I have a copy of a letter Pete Seeger wrote him on December 23, 1965 asking permission to play the clips on his brand new television program. So it may have actually been at the beginning of 1966 that it aired. There is this clip, a full one of Coal Creek March I have already uploaded, and a duet of Galilee with Lillie that I have not uploaded yet. All were filmed the same day in 1958 by Pete Seeger & all aired on Rainbow Quest in 1965 or 1966. Here is a transcript of the letter I have:
      Dear Pete and Lillie,
Finally I have been able to record your "Coal Creek March" for Columbia Records and it will be out in a couple of months or less in an LP called "God Bless The Grass." My LP's don't sell like hit records on the juke boxes but there should be a few dollars coming in for it. I'm sure glad after all these years.
Also, as of this last month, finally I have a television program where I can play straight folk music with no hokum. I also have guests appear occasionally for a little talking and song swapping and I also can show occasionally some little pieces of film. Would it be all right with you if sometime I showed that little bit of film of you playing "Coal Creek March"? Since it's a small UHF station, there is not much money in it. We all get paid union minimum but if the show is bought by other stations, we'll all get paid again. If this would be all right with you, let me know.
It was good to hear from you, I hope that your family never forgets how much fun it is to make their own music.
      As ever,
      Pete.

@@andreawhitehead Aw, that's beautiful. I'll do my own digging to see if and where the clip aired, though there is like 39 episodes. God bless you and both Petes for bringing us folk music with no hokum.

Thanks! And well, I don't know if this will help you figure out which episode of Rainbow Quest these were shown on, but I do know all 3 of these clips that were recorded on the same day by Pete Seeger are all shown on the 2002 DVD "Legends of Old Time Music". That entire DVD was all just old footage of Rainbow Quest. Since it's out of copyright, they just repackaged it & released it online for $25. LOL! There's not a single clip on there that isn't out of Rainbow Qest though. So maybe if you're familiar with the episodes, that will give you some clues to which one this was.
