    It's too bad these aren't made anymore indeed! Fantastic machine, solidly built. These were simpler to work on and were known to us in the service industry as the washer with the fewest moving parts! There were some great ideas for washers and dryers back then, wish they were all still with us! The throw away stuff we have now is embarrassing. Good job swestoyz on the rebuild!

    Everything about this washer is delicious: The dancing squid, the splashiness, the see through-lid, the light up control panel. It's just the coolest of the cool.

    This and the Frigidaire Unimatic are two of my favorite retro washing machines. They both had personality and got the job done. If I could find and buy myself one of these, I would.

    I used to have a 1966 Kelvinator washer. It was and still is my favorite washing machine that I have ever used or owned. It was also the quietest one, even more than the Maytag I had later.

    My mom also had the 1963 model described elsewhere in a post here. Two parents and six kids for 10 years! The agitator definitely was a phenomenon with these! The bottom of the cone of the agitator was connected to an eccentric tied to a shaft driven by the bottom pulley of the set below. When the motor started for the wash, it turned the shaft and eccentric pulling the agitator around in a small circle. Reverse direction of the motor engaged a torque spring engaging the spin tube for the tub.

  • @Meridian83West

    Reminds me of my Grandma's 1963 Kelvinator. Hers was less fancy -- no see-through lid, convemtional knob timer, but it did have a lint filter on the agitator. As a child, I loved to watch it in action, but it threw way too much water everywhere with the lid open!

  • @02chevyguy
    @02chevyguy 14 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Even though it looked like the agitator was having a major spaz attack at times, this machine was one notch up compared to a GM Frigidaire on overflow rinsing.

  • @nysyscokid

    This is a awsome washing machine. Why can't they make machines like this today. I love the overflow and the splashaway the best but it's all good. To bad they didn't make one with a bigger tub like frigidaire did!

  • @johncrawford4754
    @johncrawford4754 11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The clothes came out clean! Even gentle stuff came out great. Magic Minute was accomplished by over filling the tub so the dirty water spilled into the outer tub and pumped away giving a fresh, cleaner charge of water to wash or rinse with in the inner tub that contained the clothing being washed. If I remember right, the spin/motor pulley ratio was about 2.5 to 1, giving a no load spin speed of 760 rpm, but swestoyz reply of around 500 rpm is probably closer to correct. No tub brake after spin!

    Amazing. I wonder, though, is it still working? And I agree about the new machines. We had a Cabrio model that, well, just broke completely. I was tasked with buying a new machine and I bought a top loading, deep tub, timer dial, push button GE washer. No fancy control panel, auto sensor, various clothes settings POS. Have heard really bad news on them. Stuck with tried and true technology.

      We had a Cabrio set we bought in 2009 and it barely lasted four years before they bit the dust,replaced with the Maytag Bravos, hopefully it lasts longer than that but not holding my breath, considering a Speed Queen next time.

    • @CBF1
      @CBF1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably the only present-day washing machine that is built like a proper one. Spin drain, drum(or tub) brake, actual transmission, etc... ticks all boxes. I'd buy a TC5000 too if I could. They're very nice washing machines... especially for the shitty modern economical times of the 21st century, you ain't getting economical 21st-century crap in a TC5!

      @@CBF1 In 2018 unfortunately only the TR5 ,TR3, AND TR7 we're made. I got stuck with the TR5 because it was the only model available at my appliance store along with the more expensive TR7. I needed a new washing machine in 2018 desperately because my 1992 Maytag developed a major water leak suddenly and it was also leaking transmission oil. At least I got 26 years out of that Maytag although it showed signs like vibrating during the spin cycle and other abnormal noises.

    • @CBF1
      @CBF1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@albertcarello619 The TR's are the fixed tub machines aren't they? My bosch didn't last as long before it's bearings went bad(I'm English) and it was replaced... but I kept it as it was the washing machine I grew up with. And I like old Bosches so... I do have a 20 year old Miele bought for my washing machine hobby... never washed in it though. I will in the future as soon as I can turn a garage for sale into a launderette lol.
      As for me when my Bosch broke I had a Daewoo wall mounted washer to do the deed. Also a hobby washer. I never get rid of anything, I'm not a retarded modern throw-away idiot. :)

      Whirlpool themselves were pretty innovative around this time also.
      They came out with a combo in 1958 that used a recirculating pump to spray the wash load with and a heater to keep the water hot. There was no visible water splashing. Now LG does it and millennials are starry eyed ! LoL.

      Soviet Mapping No, it was in the mid 2000’s. Keep in mind that the Whirlpool direct drive, which is arguably the best washer ever made, came out in the 80’s. Maytag also kept making the Dependable Care belt driven washer up until the mid 2000’s as well. It was when Whirlpool released the Calypso that things started to get bad.
