      Winner of a video, been searching for "how do you treat chronic kidney disease naturally?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Ponack Acclaimed Prepotence - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is an awesome one off guide for discovering how to help your kidney function without the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my colleague got excellent results with it.

    Hi James, I'm from Northampton UK, and 2 weeks ago was diagnosed with Stage 3 CKD. So basically I felt like the bottom had fallen out of my world until I came across your channel. I have to admit I am a little overweight but nothing to really worry about but apart from that I thought I was leading a reasonable healthy life. Several years ago now My Husband and I had both decided to have a more plant based diet so this diagnosis was quite a surprise. But now that I have found you I plan to fly back in history and watch all your videos and get myself up to speed before my next Doctors appointment. Thank you so much for words of wisdom, I am now slowly coming out of panic mode!

    I was diagnosed with CKD 10 years ago, stage 3 at that time. Now I’m on stage 4. I have been quite strict on the food that I eat. However, it’s been 10 years and thank God, I’m still fighting not to go on dialysis.

      Thank you for your support. I grew up with a mom with chronic kidney disease, but it wasn't until I had to face having it that I realized just how limited the support was for kidney patients. When we do find information online, so much of it is highly general, wrong, and/or dangerous. I couldn't accept that nor the grim outlook my first doctors gave me. Being a super nerd, I scienced the heck out of kidney disease treatments, learning all along the way from any doctor, scientist, hospital, or educator that would speak to me. I believe we will see a massive change in our lifetimes with how kidney disease is treated - and the heart of that change will be nutrition. Dietitians have been saying this for so long, but the majority of doctors will not listen to them. As more of us team up with dietitians, that voice of hope and possibilities will grow stronger, and future kidney patients will have a better chance to kick kidney disease to the curb! Thanks again! Together we are all helping to make a better future.

      My next labs are in about 3 weeks. I'm extremely excited to see where I am at - and how well using Renadyl for the last 3 months has improved my health. I would still love to get to stage 2, but even if I don't get there yet, I am so pleased with how far I have come in the last year. January 2nd marks the 1 year anniversary of when I was supposed to be dead without dialysis (according to the first Nephrologist). I am thrilled to still be here, be extremely active, and to feel so great without every having gone on dialysis.

      Thank you! I had been extremely busy with work and travel, which kept me away from home and my video equipment. Things always get busy the last 3 months of the year, but then they are relaxed the rest of the year, so expect lots of new content. I have one big project I'm working on which is VERY EXCITING. My next labs are in late January and I will be posting my before and after labs to see how well the Renadyl Probiotic works to further boost my kidney function! I can already tell it's having a positive impact on me after using it for a little over 2 months straight. It's a probiotic that metabolizes toxins in our gut so that they are not absorbed into our blood stream. Studies have shown it can lower BUN and Creatinine (which increases GFR). Keep an eye out for that video in February!

    You are right, as I am experiencing those very same fears about having CKD and how much help I am getting from the Nephrologist! Thank you!

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does break my heart to tell people "This is normal". I know the Nephrologist want to help, but they are so disconnected from us patients that it comes across as hard to understand, frustrating, and depressing. The good news is that knowing that can help. We all get frustrated with the limited real help and support. I meet new doctors all the time (I'm an extremely social person with CKD) and I always ask for their best advice for patients. I constantly hear "Watch your sodium and drink more water". It is extremely rare that they tell you what to watch your sodium for (how much), and even rarer for them to tell me how much water a person should drink...just more. A lot of dietitians feel the exact same way - they CAN help us, but the doctors are reluctant to refer us. I'm going to try and address this problem in 2020 by making a whole lineup of videos that are very factual and to the point, without any of my opinions. I hope the videos will be useful for doctors to learn how to better communicate with patients, and that those videos can help the newly diagnosed learn about all the techno-speak that comes with the disease. I'm actually really excited about doing that - and I have a group of Nephrologist and Dietitians who are helping me. 2020 will be a huge year for helping people better understand Kidney Disease!

      Thank you so much for your support! My videos have come a long way from that first video last February shot on my cell phone. I'm now putting a lot of effort into trying to make them shorter (I love to talk). This version is actually my 4th version of this. The first one ended up being almost an hour since I was explaining every little thing. Then in my second version it got down to closer to 30 minutes, but I somehow got a large smudge on my lens and everything was blurry. For me, that just gave me more practice for the next version...and then the final version. My goal for 2020 is to keep most videos to under 12 minutes total - maybe 6-8 minutes when possible. I find it pretty fun working with a time limit.

    Had gastric bypass full RNY IN 2010. Your diet stopped foaming first time in 20 yrs. Surgery stopped diabetes. Vitamins have to be adjusted since poor absorption after gastric bypass. Can wait to see signs of improving from 16 to 22 last 2 weeks ago. Can't wait to see new labs. In RV leaving Tampa to L.A.. in 6 weeks.

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad to hear things are improving. You also reminded me of something really important - how our bodies are a little different after we've had surgery. I had some trouble when I first went on a Keto diet and it was baffling - it was extremely difficult for me to get into Ketosis. One of my doctors realized I had no gallbladder, which has a direct impact on eating high-fat foods. To compensate I had to modify which fats I was eating, as well as increase the amount.
      When you get a chance, check out Renadyl ( www.dadvicetv.com/renadyl ) and ask your doctor if they think it will help you. This is as close to a magic pill as I have found. It's a probiotic that metabolizes toxins in our gut, letting us pass them instead of absorbing them and making our kidneys filter them out. I will be posting a video in February with results from a 90-day period taking 2 tablets a day. I will share labs from before the 90 days and after, and I haven't missed a single day. I can tell there is a marked improvement after just over 2 months on it daily.
      Enjoy your trip to LA! I used to live down in SoCal. LOVED the weather and people, didn't like the congestion on the roads (I love road trips, but not sitting in traffic).

    The Scripture says that "men ought always to pray, and not to faint" (Luke 18:1); and if ever there is a time when they feel their need of prayer, it is when strength fails and life itself seems slipping from their grasp. Often those who are in health forget the wonderful mercies continued to them day by day, year after year, and they render no tribute of praise to God for His benefits. But when sickness comes, God is remembered. When human strength fails, men feel their need of divine help. And never does our merciful God turn from the soul that in sincerity seeks Him for help. He is our refuge in sickness as in health. God is just as willing to restore the sick to health now as when the Holy Spirit spoke these words through the psalmist. And Christ is the same compassionate physician now that He was during His earthly ministry. In Him there is healing balm for every disease, restoring power for every infirmity. His disciples in this time are to pray for the sick as verily as the disciples of old prayed. And recoveries will follow; for "the prayer of faith shall save the sick." We have the Holy Spirit's power, the calm assurance of faith, that can claim God's promises. The Lord's promise, "They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover" (Mark 16:18), is just as trustworthy now as in the days of the apostles. It presents the privilege of God's children, and our faith should lay hold of all that it embraces. Christ's servants are the channel of His working, and through them He desires to exercise His healing power. It is our work to present the sick and suffering to God in the arms of our faith. We should teach them to believe in the Great Healer-from the book Ministry of Healing

    So you have not reached Stage 2 as of yet. I understand Stage 3 is miraculous and took a lot of dedication, but your goal was Stage 2 correct?

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Correct. My first goal was to not die and to not go on Dialysis (which the doctors told me I had to do or I'd be dead within 45 days). They told me there was no hope of getting better, GFR 13 was the highest I was able to get back up to. I set a goal - Stage 2 within a year. I so remember that day, the doctor rolled her eyes thinking I was absolutely crazy...and maybe I was. But I made it up to Stage 3 and have been working my way through Stage 3. Stage 3 is a tough one because it covers a 30 point range, where all of the other stages only cover 15 point. My next labs are in late January and I'll see how far I made it within the 1 year. I've been doing a lot with my diet and my current doctors have not ruled out that I might hit stage 2 at my next labs, though it would be pretty amazing (That would mean a 52 point increase in my GFR over the year). No matter what, I am extremely happy to have already improved my health and love that I suffer absolutely no symptoms of CKD. This is such an odd disease - my kidneys are still the same scared up and damaged ones that sent me to the hospital with a dangerously low GFR, but today you wouldn't know that without blood work.

    Hi James, I would like to know why you think Animal Protein is stressful for the kidneys as I truly don't understand that statement to be true. I have improved my kidney function from a 2 to a 3 and have kept it stable for 4 years. I eat Animal Protein (Grassfed only without hormones & antibiotics) 7 days a week. If I eat too many eggs, that is what doesn't seem to help. How many studies were done to say Animal Protein is stressful for the kidneys ? Who were financially supporting the study ? These are important questions to know the answers. Also, what works for a person may not work for another, even where it comes to Kidney Disease.

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Protein discussion can get pretty in depth. While protein is not seen as an issue for those with health, or only slightly damaged kidneys, you can search google or any medical research site and find a wide range of studies and documents on the increased stress/workload placed on the kidneys when a person has a lower functioning kidney and consumes animal protein compared to plant based protein. Part of this is due to animal based protein causing the kidneys to go into hyper filtration mode, which could last for several hours. There is also limited additional research suggesting animal protein can deliver an acid load to the kidneys, increase ammonia production, and damage the sensitive (and already extremely valuable) kidney cells. I consumed a good deal of animal protein as I made my way up from stage 5, but I most likely would have improved faster if I would have also leveraged plant based protein for some or most of my protein. I don’t want this to come across as animal protein is bad - it is that plant based protein is better when you have low kidney function. Since my goal is to never need dialysis, I want to know every edge I can get to get me healthier and keep me there.

    • @CreativeDee
      @CreativeDee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DADVICETV , I was wondering whether these studies were done with grassfed protein. I believe the grain fed protein would be harder on the kidneys than grassfed due to the Farmers that raise their Cattle on grass instead of grain all year round that they also stop adding hormones as well. All of these things effect the kidneys whether they are in great condition or not. It has been proven that Vegan Diets do not help as much as they once thought. There are nutrients that we can get from meat protein that just is not available in vegetable protein. Thanks for this discussion James. Always interested in the information that you find out too.

      Thank you for your support. While my advice can't replace a doctors, most dietitians would agree that having some milk with a GFR in the 50s is perfectly fine. I've found (and hear it every day from other kidney warriors) that most doctors have very little understanding of nutrition, so they fall back on the limited and outdated training they were provided back in med school. I believe nutrition was in the chapter right after Leeching and before sacrificing sheep - or at least the nutritional information they use feels that outdated.
      Keep up eating vegan and using Intermittent fasting and if you need some help, a dietitian can be a great resource - but it sounds like you have this under control and are doing fantastic!

    Hi James,thank you and your blog had been a blessing to many.First and foremost,in all healing process,spiritual healing precedes physical healing.The recognition of the great fact that God is the source of true healing as stated in His word,and the first step is in coming to him by faith and forgiveness for all our sins.We also pray for guidance as to the steps we take in our treatment.The book Stopping Kidney Disease by Lee Hull is great book of information.It talks about the benifits of a plant based diet,potential renal acid load of each food group , advanced product of glycation and so many other things.It also talks about Keto acid supplementation plus low protein diet as advocated by the late Dr Mackenzie Walser of John Hopkins Hospital.In asian countries like malaysia,taiwain,and many others these ketoacids under the brand Ketosteril had been taken by many ckd patients in conjunction with low protein diet and they were able to stabilize their kidney function for years or decades.Ketoacids are amino acids without the urea and can prevent protein energy malnutrion and keep you r albumin high.In the US ,ketoacids are just being recently introduces,one is magnesiu based as Albutrix and one is calcium based such as Ketorena which is the alternative of Ketosteril in the US.Lets say on CKD stage 3 your protein reauirement is 60 gram.30 gram will come from the diet,plant based protein and the rest will be supplemented by ketocids to make up for the protein deficit.There are reports of ckd patients improving their gfr tremendously by doing this.What are your opinion and thoughts about this?

      Many doctors fear supplements because the first thing they think about are the herbs that many people want to use to try and improve their health. The herbs can be of different qualities, different quantities, and sometimes contain dangerous fillers...let alone many have not be proven to be effective. When talking to your doctor about supplements, be very specific. Ask them about Iron, Fiber, Vitamins D, B vitamins - then they will better understand what you are asking about. Many don't think of these as supplements at first - they think of them as vitamins and minerals.
      How much you can improve is an unknown. No doctor can answer that question and it will be different for each person. Some people have too much damage and are unable to improve. Some people can improve a great deal. Doctors are still trying to figure Kidney Disease out - there haven't been enough large controlled studies to give them everything they need.
      Are you currently working with a dietitian? For me that was so important when my GFR was really low.

      I'm not familiar with your disease and the use of cyclosporine to treat it. Every medication we take ends up passing through our kidneys, so it is important all doctors are aware of kidney issues and use what is called the "Renal" dose. I'm a very positive person, but I would certainly be concerned with a drop from 96 to 75 in 4 months. Give your doctor a call and see if there are changes to your medication they can make to stop the decline. You can then see if your GFR increases or if you need to make diet or lifestyle changes to regain some of your lost kidney function. Good luck!

      @DADVICETV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great question - and one that you will get WRONG answers to in most forums. People tend to overreact with potassium (and sodium). Those of us with kidney disease do need to be careful not to get too much, but just as important, we need to make sure we are getting enough. The amount will be different for each person. As a matter of fact, when your kidney function is higher, potassium can actually protect your kidneys!
      What is important isn't how much potassium person A or person B is consuming - it is "are they consuming too much, too little, or just the right amount for their labs." If your potassium is low, your doctor will have you increase the amount you take. If it gets too high, then you'll reduce it. Each of the key nutrients is just like this, including sodium. People tend to pull back far too much at first. A great way to get additional potassium is from Avocados. Not only are they high in potassium, but they are full of other nutrients and good fats.
      Keep an eye on your sodium also. If you get a craving for salt, you may be too low. When reaching for the salt, I go for Pink Himalayan Sea Salt or Redmond Real Sea Salt. Salt and potassium have a relationship and we need to keep them both in the right balance.

    I get renal fatigue also. It's a real drag.
    On many levels.
    But I did some research on my own.
    And raw honey seems to help some.
    I just put it on toast. I can't think of anything healthy to put it on basically.
    If you all have any more ideas than this. Feel free to comment.

      I would look at your labs, check for low red blood cell count (RBC) and Hemoglobins (HB). If those are low, you may be suffering from anemia. I have a video of how you can use diet to minimize or even prevent anemia. Pretty much you want to increase a few things you may be deficient in, like Iron and some critical B vitamins. I started cooking ONLY with cast iron and that has helped me to keep my iron levels where they need to be, and I take a B-Complex vitamin with a little Vitamin C each day. Those, along with my ProRenal+D multivitamin and eating foods higher in B and C have allowed me to prevent anemia and get my energy back.

      Everyone should watch their sugar and your doctor or dietitian can help you know how much you can have each day. This will allow you to work in some syrup, but it made take up a pretty large portion of your daily sugar allowance. I personally would avoid syrup or if I did use it, I would include a lot of fiber in my meals to help balance it out.

    James Happy New year . I have a solitary kidney and my gfr was 42. I was on the slide down for a few years. My docs were the type you speak of that state when it gets bad the option is dialysis etc. I was not going to sit by and wait. I researched and found a Online book by Robert Galarowicz. I began to follow the diet advice and supplements. Was doing mostly a vegetarian diet for the first 6 mo. They added some animal protein but very little a couple times a week. Supplements Alphlopoic acid, B6, CoQ10, Multi Vitamin Renydil Probiotic. I think the supplements and Probiotic with limited protein helped me greatly. My last GFR was 66. Dont give up keep striving forward.

    Are fishes good for the kidney?

    • @DADVICETV

      Fish oil has been shown to be helpful, but be careful with shellfish if you suffer from gout. Also watch for smoked and processed fish - it may have a lot of low sodium that will zap your daily allowances quickly. I always find it best to purchase food low sodium so that I am in control of when and how much salt I use (along with the type of salt).
