    Motorcycles are amazing machines for us to enjoy but they are also very vulnerable to theft. Without some sort of anti-theft device on your bike, someone could literally walk up and push it away. In today's video, I got over some of my favorite ways to help keep your bike safe!

    I’ve gotten over it now, but mines got stolen a little over two months ago. I was so pissed. Not only was it my main means of getting around from work store etc but it was an outlet. The part that really gets me is that either there gonna strip it for parts or just mess it up really bad. I really don’t understand people. But I will be getting another one hopefully by the end of this year.

    If ye got a really expensive one (let's say Multistrada) it would be vise to install an alarm with GPS locating device.
    It won't help you in Sweden where cops are bound by dumbest laws ever (we can't help you because this would affect the privacy of the person wrongly accused of theft - or something like that), but at least you will know whose house to burn with a molotov after a warning with a brick through a window. And a good insurance will cover your lost bike (and you'll get your sweet revenge :P)

    I've been looking into getting my motorcycle license and a first bike, and this is some info I've really never even considered. Would you consider doing a whole (mini)series of introduction videos like this, covering everything from bike security and maintenance to the minimum required gear and general safe riding? I know I would really appreciate it, and I'm sure others out there would, too!

    • @benclimo461

      There's lot of information from articles to TH-cam videos covering just about everything you can do.
      Security: disk lock alarm (on rear disk), chain (at least 13mm, and chain it to something not just the bike), alarm (doesn't have to be expensive one just a Chinese ones work decently), ground anker (at home if you have a garage or drive), tracker.
      Gear: always all the gear possible incase you crash or someone crashes into you. Helmet (look at sharp helmets website, it tests loads of helmets and give them a rating not just a yes or no like ece or snell. Really useful) jacket, gloves, kevlar/leather/textile trousers, shin high motorcycle boots. Get some good quality protection pads in all important areas, elbows, shoulders, back, hip and knee joints.
      If it's hot where you live get ventilated gear.
      If people don't wear much gear and they come off they will get major road rash along with possible broken bones. Injuries that can last a lifetime.
      Look up MotoJitsu on youtube on safe riding he's an excellent teacher on how to be safe on the road and be a better rider.

    Good video! I liked the disc lock solution, affordable but does the job. I always lock my handle bars and take key with me, even if I'm just running into a store quick or sitting down for a slice of pizza and the bike is literally in my view. Of course, a pair or trio of thieves can still pick up the bike, but it won't roll in a straight line if the handle bars are locked. I think I'm gonna look into getting a disc lock with audible alarm now that I saw one :)
    I have a private house with a garage where I store my bike, I just need something quick and easy when I'm out and about.

    another good option with a cool factor is digital guard dawg keyless ignition... they make and easy plug and play from almost all motorcycles and gives you that cool 2021 honda cbr 1000rr-r style coolness having a remote key fob to power your bike and when you aren't next to your bike the bikes power is imobilized so no one can just drive a screwdriver down your ignition breaking the key socket and just turning it on that way and driving away

    A free one that 99% of bikes come with is your steering lock, on it's own it might not be the best solution. However, combining it with a disc lock will make it a great security set up. Speaking of disc locks, I would advise moving the lock behind you forks so that way you have very little room to move the bike forward in the event forgetful you hopped on the bike before taking it off or a thief moves it without realizing it, your disc brake will thank you!

    • @kevingomez2006
      @kevingomez2006 ปีที่แล้ว

      Putting a steering lock is the worst thing you could do, it takes 5 seconds to break and it’s 1000£ plus worth of damage. I learnt this the hard way as I got my motorcycle stolen and recovered, the mechanic said it would have been cheaper for me to repair if I just didn’t put a steering lock on as it is so easy to break and so expensive to replace or repair.

  • @K10wNs-Shed
    @K10wNs-Shed 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Combining a cable lock and a padlock through the brake disc has worked for me to date. Cable lock through the frame and a wheel and around something immobile.
    A thief would need two tools to cut through both locks quickly and effectively. Cable cutters for cable and bolt cutters for the padlock.
    Chase, something you didn't mention was GPS tracking systems which aid greatly for recovering the bike after its stolen, and hopefully catching the thief.

    • @benclimo461
      @benclimo461 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not such a great idea as 90% of bolt croppers can easily get past it. Chain that's 13mm+ choppers won't be able to chop it.

    • @K10wNs-Shed
      @K10wNs-Shed 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you ever tried to cut steel cable with bolt cutters? Bolt cutters work well on padlocks or chains. You need cable cutters to cut through a cable quickly, hence why you use both at the same time.

    I have thee bikes, and lock all three together with 1,000$ worth of chains, and they each have a solid U lock with alarm systems built into them. Moving one bike will trigger all three alarms. That’s 110db sound just for each of the U locks. I also have 3 separate alarms under the seats 🤪. I wonder what 6 alarms with 110db would do to someone’s hearing ? Did I mention it’s in underground garage so it echos too.

  • @codybrown9401

    If you can chain it to something that would be the best and cheapest way to deter theft. I lived in an apartment complex where I had to keep the bike out in the parking lot. I took a very thick chain that I used for mudding and chained it to my Jeep that I kept as a secondary vehicle with a construction lock. Many times people have attempted to cut the chain but no one was successful since I always kept the chain tightly wrapped with no slack. This was a much cheaper solution than going out and buying a heavy duty bike lock. It didn't keep thieves from swiping my plate on it though unfortunately. They snapped it right off the bolts once.

    i had a bad experience with progressive on my first motorcycle back in 2014. i had normal insurance rates and paid monthly, but totaled my first bike a few months in. my second bike went onto the same premium and all seemed well, but when it came time to renew, Progressive demanded that i prepay a full year's worth of insurance over the course of 30 days and also raised my premium rates to be above the cost that Progressive purchased my first bike from me when it was totaled. so my rates went from about 30$/month for a year to suddenly $6000 that needed to be paid with short notice. needless to say i instead switched companies and never looked back.

    For me full cover insurance is the only good way to keep a bike save. Like yes it sucks but it means you get paired out and can get another one, a tracker would also be useful but is only good if it's accurate and you follow it immediately but saying that most semi decent thieves will find it quickly and remove it.
    The big chain and disc lock is not much of a deterrent as it's pretty easy and quick to cut them off.

    don't use that bike-lock looking one with the chain, it's very easy to defeat, literally 2 seconds. i can probably pop it faster than you can get your key out for it, stick it in and turn

    never had a bike stolen but feel your pain,
    your best bet would be dont leave your bike in carparks or shopping centres.
    my bike is always withing eye shot of me unless im at work where it is parked out of site from prying eyes.
    i have installed a GPS tracker with battery backup good for 7 days without bike battery power.
    has its own sim card that sends a signal every thirty seconds to the bikes location.
    other tricks you can do is place razor blades under lifting points (just remember where you put them).
    but in the end if they want your bike they will have it.
    just keep it insured.

    There is a bicycle alarm that I have been installing in my bikes that runs off its own AA batteries. The last for over a year and don't kill your main battery(as most bike alarms do).
    But insurance is really the only protection against the really bad guys.

    Curious. I had my motorcycle stolen by my landlord before I could even change the ownership over. If I was to insure it then make a theft claim. Would that even work? Or am I screwed. It took so long and, I saved up so hard and wanted a motorcycle and to ride one year before my time is up. Which turns out is short.
    The police didn't stop them before as they kept saying it is a Landlord Tenant matter even though I had moved out.
    They literally waited until we left with our moving trailer and when we came back for our 2nd load. They pad locked and sealed the garage and house.
    You think insurance will do anything at this point?

    I had my 2007 GSXR 1000 stolen from my driveway 4 years ago it was covered had disc locks on both wheels they simply just put it in a pickup truck or van. Absolutely the worst feeling ever but that was my fault for not having it locked to something immovable.

      My r3 was $33 a month with progressive. Less than $20 I think for my 2016 yz450fx supermoto but my financed 2018 r6 is around $85. Second year riding. 2 accidents in a car. No tickets. 21yrs old. My yz250fx was stolen and they didnt give me any issues at all about paying for it. They paid full nada value (which was fair and was basically how much I paid for it to begin with) and I have up to 3k in accessories coverage on each bike so they covered the 2100 in parts I had on it (I had all receipts). Very happy with Progressive

      Being young, a male, high cc’s, or having a certain bike, you’ll be paying more for insurance. If you have anti-theft measures, it goes down a little.
