    6:58 the ring needs to go around a frame member not a wheel. A thief can pull the axle and take the expensive part.

      @@expatbiker6598 Yes he is. By virtue of the initial premise ""honest man".
      However, just because a person displays a virtuous characteristic, does not mean they are not also capable of the opposite. Some day he can decide to be dishonest if he deems the circumstances to permit, but until then he remains an honest man.

    If you only lock up one wheel they can kickstand lean the bike over and set the wheel on a dolly and push the bike around. Tow companies do this all the time to remove motorcycles that are illegally parked.

      @obeii1805 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @PetrolJunkie
      @PetrolJunkie 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@obeii1805 Say someone takes a cable lock and they run it through their wheel and part of the frame. The idea is that if you try to roll the bike the cable will jam up. In theory, it might stop someone from just pushing the motorcycle away.
      However, there is an easy way to defeat that. Tow truck guys do this all the time with illegally parked motorcycles.
      The motorcycle is on it's side stand. There is technique for turning the motorcycle around in a tight spot where you lean all the the motorcycle's weight onto the side stand and pick up the wheels off the ground. Then you can rotate it around in an area as small as a parking space.
      I carry dollies, platforms with casters on them that are mean to go under a car tire, but they work just the same on motorcycles. If the car has a flat tire I can put one under the flat tire and move the car around without damaging the rim, for example. If if the car is in gear I can use a dolly to move the car around without having access to the transmission to take it out of park.
      While the wheel is off the ground you just slip the dolly under the wheel with the chain through it and set the bike back down. Stand it up straight, and push it around just like the wheel was working correctly.
      99% of the time the motorcycle is going on a flatbed when we do this.
      We do this specifically to avoid having to cut the lock or cable, that is customer property and we do not want to damage customer property. It's easy to do, quick, and results in no risk of damage.

    Great info Alex! Rural living has always been my security! I have never had much use for locks. Kryptonite locks have been around forever. That would be my choice if I needed one. Security is very much a common sense protocol. Been very lucky to plan on all my rides for the best security. If someone wants your bike bad enough, it still can be gone in minutes with any of these locks.

    Pretty much all of these are defeated by a crackhead with a skateboard.
    “How so?” You may ask… you lift the front wheel onto a skateboard and walk away with the home.
    The only sureifee guarantee is chasing the bike through the frame to sobering rigid. All the other can slow someone down but virtually do nothing.
    Add in multiple air tags and a GOS and your chances of recovery greatly increase.

    In college people stole bicycles all the time because they only locked the front wheel to a stand. Someone would just take the wheel off and make off with the bike. Could that be done with a motorcycle as well?

      Yup I work security at a university and bicycle thefts are the #1 crime we deal with. Students only lock the front tire like you said, and with a weak lock and the tire can be easily removed if they don’t want to cut the lock. I use a heavy duty chain that goes through the body of the bike and the tires and wraps around the steel bike post, as well as another smaller steel cord that does the same, lastly I have an alarm system that goes crazy when it’s moved

    never lock a chain/cable lock system thur the wheel but thur the frame, I had one of my friend’s Grom stolen because he had his cable/chain lock thur his front wheel and all the thieves did was remove the front wheel and took the rest of the Grom and threw it in their vehicle. I use Apple airbag on all my vehicles, it’s low tech but if hidden correctly you can at lease try to zero in on it’s location.
