Tracy Autry I have a question if you don't mind....My husband and I are wanting to install a pool kit and have been looking at different sizes and options for awhile now and we're wanting to save as much money as possible but yet it be good quality product and efficient for us and our family, do you have any recommendations as far as going with the standard options they give you in the kits or upgrading certain things like the pump, filter system ect? And does the standard kits come with everything you'll need to install and be able to enjoy it besides the concrete of course lol! Thanks for sharing your video, I really love your pool! Years ago when I was in my 30's I installed my own in ground pool. Dug a large hole made a "coral" in the ground and used treated 4x8 plyboard. Installed an above ground in the ground. Used a water hose filled with water to find level. Had sidewalks installed made a really nice pool. Also I recommend putting pipe on either side so volley ball net can be installed.

It looks like you went with Polymer vs Steel Wall right? I'm seriously thinking of the DIY method. I just scared of excavating too much dirt. After my free pool estimate this way is twice as less as the cost to get a concrete pool installed.
ESPW Profile We opted for polymer walls. We added a heater, got all of the plumbing supplies and the led light, as well as the steps. Our kit was like a buffet....we picked the pool shape, size and options we wanted.

We replaced due to wear (our doggies poked a few holes in the liner and after a few years they got large enough that patching didn't cut it). Also, we put the home on the market and wanted it pristine. It was 7 years old, took about 4 hours to swap out and cost about $900. House sold for over asking in about 12 hours. The cost of the pool vs ROI was excellent. We will definitely do this again!
We rented a dump trailer for a weekend and dumped most in a friend's pasture, we moved a bunch to a home builder's sites that needed dirt, we sold some to people that needed landscaping soil and we have a couple of small berms in our backyard now. The berms came about because we ran out of time on the rental and didn't want to add any more days.

Hi, and thank you for sharing this! I am exploring options right now to build a small pool in my year and came across this. I have been looking at using a shipping container thus far, but comparing options. Something I'm not clear about after watching your video tough - did you put in a concrete floor in the pool or did you just drop the liner on a bottom end of sand?
+Stephen Harris We have a sand base under the liner. We were told we could mix the sand with cement, and that over time, it would harden because ground moisture would help cement harden, but we wanted the flexibility of going back later and re-smoothing the base if we replace the liner. Settling would happen and we didn't want cracks.
I'm waiting on the liner for our self-installed pool. We only put sand because I wanted the option of changing the bottom later if we wanted it deeper in places, etc.

Silver1ton it's a good idea not to backfill around the pool until you've started filling with water. You can see around 6:44 in the video that the walls are pushing in some. I've repaired plenty of pools and replaced liners where the walls were bowed in because of the backfill, even if you pour a concrete footing it can still happen. (Not knocking these people, just giving a tip). Also, after the backfill is complete, wait about 2 months before pouring any concrete around the pool so the ground can settle. Often times, you have to add dirt because it settles with rainwater. If you backfill with rock, you can do concrete right after. If you pour the concrete before the dirt settles, the concrete WILL crack.
+alejandro king , The average Do-it-yourselfer (like us), is capable of doing a liner pool much more than concrete or plaster. The cost allowed us to pay cash, rather than financing. If we ever decide to go back and convert it to cement or plaster, the hard part is done, and we can do that later on.

Every season we opened 70+ pools, maintained them daily and closed them at season's end. Indoor/outdoor/small residential liner/large commercial concrete. And everything in between from water slides to church baptismals. Concrete pools require significant annual maintenance. Plus resurfacing on rare occasion. Good liners require far less maintenance and will last a very long time with simple patch repairs. Liners can actually be replaced without draining the pool. We recently moved into a new home and plan to build a liner pool.
rr900c , it took less than 1 week for the water to clear up with continuous filtration. We pumped the water from our well, so the water was untreated and came out with gypsum, due to the region. We were pretty glad it cleared up so quickly.

Looks great probably would have put it on grade with the patio so it wouldn't be a step down and just built up around the pool and then tapered it down to the yard, maybe even made a row of shrubs as a buffer between the yard and pool. Just my thoughts but still a excellent job.
We filled it with our well water. It wasn't filtered in the beginning, but after circulating through the pump and filter a few days, it was crystal clear.

Shouldn't a pool be made of concrete? Fake, cheap houses that collapse by a strong wind, and now cheap and fake pools. Just a tiny cut with a nail, and water leaves the pool. After a strong rain, the soil of clay will go soft and move, filling the pool. If you do anything, do it for 1000 years long, not for 2 - 5 years.
that liner is bad at heat retention, will fade over time and need replacing in 7-10 years. have fun with that. saved yourself money short term but just saddled yourselves with a re-occurring expense. should have gone with fiberglass.
Thank you for your opinion… We actually just replaced the liner this year and it took about 4 hours so it wasn't really that bad and liner pool is so much more DIY friendly than fiberglass.

Becky Belmontes they usually last about 15 yes depending on chlorine or salt system. They're pretty easy to replace.

Yes. We put a sand base down, raked it smooth then put the liner over it.

you should look up natural swimming pools, and download a app called houzz which has many ideas that can help.

What's the measurements and how much did u pay for the walls and the liner alone?
The measurements are 32 by 16 by 12 and we paid for the entire kit as a whole less than $8,000 so it's hard to say how much certain parts would cost.

It is 5'8" at the deep end....about 3' on the shallow end. It's 22,000 gallons.
