    Its heart-warming that Jamie can talk about his hand around others in a light-hearted, humorous way. The doctor-support team (nurses, tecs, specialists) never get paid enough. Most of them do it because of their dedication to their fellow citizens. Its humbling to witness how people overcome their handicaps.

    Jamie, it looked to me like that construction calculator said your stud length should have been 107 7/8", not the 107 1/8" as mentioned in the video @12:40. Was the camera lying to me?
    EDIT: Of course, I see that Eric caught the error... Good job, Eric!

    it’s amazing the weird stuff that transfers across disciplines. i sew as a hobby (not a woodworker… yet!) but i’ve taken to marking my fabric measurements in a similar way to how you do measure marks for your cut lines. it’s been surprisingly helpful!

    Pro Tip! Don’t leave anything long term on the stamped concrete while it’s still curing. It will wick out the moisture and leave a shadow outline of whatever was placed on it.

    It’s nice to see you guys building headers this way because last place I built had boxed headers filled with insulation just like you guys did here and like I’ve always done it in the past. The building inspector walked through everything and said it’s all perfect except last minute as he walks out asked what’s in between the headers. I explained and he asked if there’s any blocking connecting both sides nailed together on both sides of the 2x10 or is it just hollow with insulation. I said no it’s hollow, he didn’t like that. After standing around scratching our heads with him on an easy way to fix it… which there really isn’t, he let it go and said next time add blocks and nail from each side to make it a “solid member” even though it was nailed top and bottom. Can’t really argue with an inspector can only work with them

    I was taught years ago the fast way to mark boards for drill spots. Just set the board in place on top of the bolts, then wack it on the top of the board. That will mark an impression on the board where the drilling needs to be done.

    Stud heights. I would use Tim's trick. Using the suspended caulk line and get an unique length for each individual stud height. This accounts for any variabilty at floor level and slab level simultaneously.
    Tim = awesome framers.

  • @alasdair7196

    I would be putting flooring protection down over the entire concrete slab for the duration of the build so it doesnt get damaged. Walking dirt covered boots onto it will scratch it to pieces over the full build, or just one dropped tool and its game over

  • @Sarutaru06
    @Sarutaru06 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Most jobs our company does call for Hilti/Simpson anchor bolts that allow you to just hammer drill into the concrete and start the layout wherever it's convenient. So we don't use double bottom plates unless the gypcrete is tall enough to interfere with hanging dry-wall, which doesn't typically happen on a concrete floor.

    Another great video, I find it interesting that you frame without the anchor bolts going through both plates with the washer on top of the KD plate of the wall, in New England its common practice, our building department would never allow nailing the wall bottom plate to the pressure treated plate as the only connection, it would be considered in adequate even with the plywood attached to the pressure treated plate, (yes I understand different requirements per state) thanks for the great content you have a great channel.

    I think that the OSHA Fall Safety law does not allow workers to be on scaffolding higher that 4 feet while it is moving.
    However, that might have been changed since the law was re-written in the late 90's. Many companies use scissor lifts or extension booms (Genie) to keep their workers safe while moving.

    I was skeptical of how the stamped concrete would turn out with that wood texture but it looks really good.

    After my career In firefighting ended after 17 years I built a custom house with a friend last year. Being 46 I quickly realized how hard building is on your body I was in shape and it still recked me. I give it to you guys it’s tuff on the body. Almost everything is awkward going against proper lifting mechanics. Do you get used to it or not?
