Welcome back dear viewers to the first of a series of videos discussing the aid side of the Ukraine war. And it is this one which will ultimately decide the outcome and ensure Ukraine's victory. Russia has always struggled with logistics. But there is one area above others which will gives all NATO and Allied forces the edge.

It's operating in Saudi Arabia as we speak and it's performance isn't anything to brag about. The Saudis operate the PAC 3 which is the latest version. Yet they couldn't intercept a single cruise missile or drone in the attack on the Saudi oil fields who knocked out half of their production. Not did it only fail to intercept anything, it also totally failed to detect the attack and till this date the Saudis don't know for sure from what direction the attack was launched. That was less than 3 years ago. It has failed multiple times to intercept houthi attacks..
So calling it the worlds most effective AD system is more than a stretch

Lastly as a bonus we are sending some more NLAW which is Swedish/British made along with other small things like mine clearing equipment and basic automatic weapons.

Given proper fuel, we humans have immense capacity for endurance. If you run short though, in extremis, you may just fall down, mumble incoherently and twitch until sufficient glucose circulates to rescue your nervous system from total shut-down. Cold wet conditions aggravate the situation profoundly.

    • @joeclaridy
      @joeclaridy ปีที่แล้ว +3

In Vietnam, MACV-SOG personnel would take their field rations and tie them tightly inside their belts in order to use their body heat with the heat and humidity of the jungle to keep their food warm while on patrol. By using this method they eliminated the need to make a fire attracting the enemy to their location while in "neutral" nations. Thank God current MRE's have eliminated that process.

But the Centauro 1 is basically an AMX and is being retired for the Centauro 2. Those could definitely be sent to Ukraine, together with some of the Linces(our humvees) that saved the lives of a whole lot of Italian kids in the middle east.

Can't comment on actual quality of russian MRE's. However how palletable it would be depends on your culinary habits. I am Czech and those meat tin cans look pretty much similar to those you can buy in Czech republic in any grocery store.
Basically processed pork or beef with some fat, mildly salted.
I personally don't love it, but if you are hungry, you will be more than happy to eat it.
In Czech Army there were similar tins up untill recently and if stored properly those could last long time after expiration date.

Bradleys are such a huge deal for Ukraine. But not for the missile, or the auto cannon, or the armor. On paper, using metrics, a BMP-2M appears superior as it can carry more troops, has a larger caliber faster rate of fire gun, and more missiles per reload, and I believe it is faster. But that is what warthunder players and stat sheet nerds think.
What the Bradley has up its' sleeve, is the best damn optics Ukraine will have. I have heard many Bradley crewmen say, they can zoom out hundreds of meters with thermals on, and still recognize facial features on the infantry they look at. They can zoom at a target a kilometer away, and recognize it is a certain species of mouse.
Combined together with the long range ATGM, the Bradley would be an insanely powerful patrol/recon/tank destroyer vehicle. Which causes sort of a dilemma. It will also be their most survivable IFV. It could either be used for lightning offenses. We will see what the Ukrainians do with it, but I would be on the side of placing it into a safer recon role to abuse the sights and relative comfort of the vehicle.

American MREs are not bad, except the "hot dog meal" known as the 5 fingers of death. They are like 5 long Vienna sausages, just gross.
In the 80s I had returned to college, and like most students I was broke.
My buddy was employed by a contractor hired to clean up after the U.S. Marines at camp Pendleton. He collected "broken" MREs, or MREs taken out of the shipping box, but still in the plastic bags carried by individuals. A lot of these "broken" MREs ended up at my apartment. My roommate and I lived off of MREs as long as the supply held out. We were very happy to have them because we had been living on variations of Top Ramen based recipes.
I can say I ate MREs for a full month, but only crapped every 3rd day at most.
MREs are a high calorie butt plug. That may be good in the field for soldiers, but roughage is required for struggling students.
My roommate used to open his mouth and say, "look down my throat, see where it gets dark, that's not just dark that shit I'm full of shit all the way up to there".

He even had cooks bring hot coffee to the front during the 1944 winter in France. I remember one of the cooks telling me during a reunion that he gave hamburgers and rice to the soldiers in the middle of the night. aside from MRE(IMP)s, which the government is providing, what is really important is candy. yes, good ol candy. even during training we easily burn 4000 calories a day, or more, in the field - and the daily assigned IMP calories is 3600. that's a gap of anywhere between 400 - 1000 calories that soldier have to make up for themselves, and usually this results in us carrying half to one pound of candy for each week in the field - and that's just in training. candy don't just keep you fed - it keeps you awake too. that little sugar rush when you are manning the C9 trench shift at 0300 is a god send. and believe me, you get incredibly hungry and tired during the shift - so much so that I would eat the "sawdust" energy bar just to stay awake and concentrated. if i have one thing to ask from the IMP makers is to include more small pieces of candy in the packages. so if you want to help on an individual basis, send candy. because i can almost guarantee that the troops will need it - and with the ukrainian supply and economic situation being so fucked right now, it would not surprise me if their soldiers spend a fortune on candy.
also... hayboxes in the field. mmmmmmmmm. what i would do to get a haybox meal in the field. a thousand times better than IMPs.

I remember reading during the latter stages of the Pacific War, Japanese soldiers were being found and recovered by US forces after being mistaken for their own because the Japanese were wearing US Uniforms. But these weren't soldiers doing infiltration, as in nearly every case they were found with US Field Rations and cooked meals. One soldier's personal diary was recovered, and he mentions how great and delicious Uncle Sam's food when he first tried it.
The Japanese soldiers were so hungry that they were literally sneaking into American camps not to cause harm, but to get something to eat.
This was established as well in the ETO as the Germans, running out of supplies themselves, were looking for US Rations towards the end of the war. They would loot US rations over US weapons and even steal from the British and Commonwealth whatever food they could get. I believe I even read once that a column of knocked out British or Canadian Tanks were approached by the Germans at night and the Germans dug around in the Tanks for food and drinks. They then left the Tanks where they sat, not even trying to blow them up, and went back to their positions where they apparently enjoyed themselves with something to actually eat.
Additionally, in this war, I recall that Russians have been so hungry, they've been eating dogs and other animals they can capture. The Ukrainians even found paws of dogs stabled to boards during the recapture of all areas on the Kyiv Front and learned that those were paws from dogs that had been eaten.
I would not be surprised, if we see reports of Russians eating rats, trapping and killing them, like was done in the movie All Quiet on the Western Front. The movie from the 1970s? Or was that movie 1960s? Either way, if you have seen the movie, you know the scene.

Hey Pacman, great video as usual. I'd like to suggest a topic.
Would you consider making a comparison on what the current situation in Ukraine is to that during some of the previous wars was after one year of fighting? Like how the war in Europe was going in september 1940, the war in Pacific in december 1942, the WW1 in 1915 or perhaps even the Spanish Civil war in July 1937?
You see, I happen to be a part of a community that is... not particularly fond of Ukraine and the western support to it, to say it diplomatically. One of the arguments that appeared a few times in this circle was the "With all the equipment we sent them, how come Ukraine hasn't won already? Why should we send them more? This is clearly a waste of money." And, to be entirely honest, this (along with some other arguments) seemed quite compelling to me for a while, but I digress.
Yes, I have now seen Perun's videos where he mentions these things (like the vid about IFVs) and they are more than sufficient explanation why further support is needed. I just happened to think of this comparison and considered it worth sharing. And since it seems like something that could fit well within your repertoire, here I am.
Of course, no is also an answer, so if the topic isn't really worth the effort, that's completely understandable.
So, if you've gotten this far, thanks for your patience, apologies for the wall (well, mabye just a fence) of text and have a nice day.

I am in Ukraine working & volunteering, and I need to correct a couple things you said. There is NO "full mobilisation" in Ukraine. I should know, I've applied 5 times and I know many who've tried more than that. Even if you get a draft notice, its likely there'll be 6 people ahead of you for the same job. This actually happened to a friend of mine - he sat in the office with 5 other guys for 2 hours before they told him to go home. One opening I went to for 50 recruits had 300 applicants waiting outside, for 5 hours. We don't need "mobilization," we need weapons & training en masse at all levels.
I have seen no MRE's here, nor in videos. Rather, our soldiers are largely eating locally produced food, which we have in ABUNDANCE. I've personally loaded, unloaded, packed & moved this food. Its a massive amount coming from every community. Cans & jars of everything you can imagine pouring out of every babushka's basement. Massive volunteer canning drives & food kitchens. Its an agricultural country, and almost every home outside cities has a victory garden, especially now.
That said, MRE's could make an HUGE difference to our army, particularly recon, SF, & infantry advance troops. The reason is this: all that canned food is great, but its not very transportable in the field. This means soldiers are limited how far they can go from their field kitchens, as it were. A bunch of carryable MRE's could really extend the range the above forces could advance into enemy territory without resupply.

Thank you for your reply. I would have mentioned this in more detail and it's why I said (and showed in footage) the Ukrainian soldiers cooking themselves and sourcing their own food.
What I was trying to get across is that it's the supply of food and other critical stuff like medical supplies which will win. Not tanks and jets (although those are important).

German here its probably going to happen on Friday.
The fact that our Vice chancellor has openly spoken in favor of permitting Exports is a pretty clear sign that its probably already decided.
Meanwhile the new Minister of Defence has denied knowledge about Germany requiring the US to send Abrams first. While incompetence is pretty usual for this position in Germany I doubt he messes up this badly in his first week.
Lastly while Poland is kicking and screaming about their Leopards and even threatened to just send them to Ukraine without permission they haven't even send an official request to actually export them. Coincidentally its election year in Poland and the PiS LOVES throwing shit at Germany.

Several years ago, I saw a commentary about why the US military has been so successful. It wasn't that we had the best equipment, it wasn't that we had the best trained troops, it was that no one did logistics better than the US military. Watching the footage from the initial invasion, I remember almost every western military analyst scratching their heads wondering what the Russians were doing, since their supply chain was so ... bad. I guess we can say that the Russians studied tactics, not logistics.
Having listened to the translated intercepts of phone calls from Russian soldiers at the front, the constant thread has been they're out of food, don't have clean drinking water, and don't have the right gear for the conditions. Given that they're now entering a winter war, those things by themselves are going to be deadly to them, without the Ukrainians having to fire a shot. Whereas the Ukrainian troops have enough food, they have clean water or the means to purify it, and they have the right gear - even if it's put together from different nations. And that is going to be their real edge in the next few months.

    • @DD-qw4fz

Russia studied neither id say...and even if they did, corruption and lack of funds made sure all of their capabilities were only theoretical , not practical.

Imperialist nations that extend their influence militarily throughout the world figure logistics out quickly, or don´t stay empires for long. The United States has had plenty of time and experience to work things out: from the side of those being attacked by a foreign power first, then becoming the attackers. Look at US history and you will see a never-ending string of military conflicts that required long-distance transportation of supplies and personnel, adapting to new technological achievements and challenges, all while maintaining a certain degree of comfort as its own materiel and staff sources are mostly safe from enemy attack.
The United States has had an easy time building up its logistics, but it also has taken the job quite seriously, and the result is the capacity to keep different wars going on for literal decades, half the world away from its own shores. An incredible feat to be sure, which comes in handy for its allies, clients, and in the cause of the Ukraine-Russia war, allies of convenience.

I would appreciate a similar breakdown of the fuel outlook.
Obviously Russia has plenty of fuel generating capacity but I don’t know anything about their fuel transport capacity or consumption rates.
Similarly for Ukraine, all the infrastructure attacks must be making moving fuel to the correct location at the correct time a challenge.

    • @Norbrookc
      @Norbrookc ปีที่แล้ว

Tanks and IFV's tend to have truly shitty fuel efficiency. The original Abrams got around a half mile per gallon of fuel, although the more modern updates have supposedly gotten it up to 2 miles per gallon. The T-72 is in the ballpark with that, so the more you run tanks, the more fuel you need. The big problem in logistics is not how much you can move to a port, airport, or rail head, it's getting it from there to the front. That means trucks, lots and lots of trucks. Which we have seen the Russians lack.
