- A quick how-to video on the new parking assistance package on the all-new 2024 X5 featuring parking assistant professional with recorded path parking, automatic parking, and the backup assistant. This new version of the parking assistance package takes convenience and technology to the next level and is available on all vehicles featuring iDrive8 and Digital Key Plus (see vehicle eligibility on note #1)
A few notes:
1. Vehicles eligible for this version of the parking assistance package with parking assistant professional: X1, X5 LCI, X6 LCI, X7 LCI, i5,*, 5 series* i7, 7 Series, iX, XM.
2. NOT ALL iDrive8 vehicles come with Parking Assistant Professional which adds recorded path parking and remote control parking via the myBMW app which requires Digital Key Plus (2, 3, 4, and i4). The X3, X4, and 5 series are unavailable with Parking Assistant Professional due to the lack of iDrive8 and/or Digital Key Plus.
3. An Electronic Subscriber Agreement or ESA is required for remote control parking via the myBMW app and also requires the activation of Digital Key Plus.
4. If your BMW is equipped with the Driving Assistant Professional Package, the steering wheel lighting elements on each spoke will illuminate green when steering intervention for the parking assistant professional is active.
5. The backup assistant on vehicles featuring both iDrive 8 and Digital Key Plus will memorize 500+ ft of your previous driving maneuvers. Vehicles with iDrive7 and iDrive8 without Digital Key Plus will be able to memorize up to approximately 160ft of your previous driving maneuvers.
6. The automatic parking function embedded in the new parking assistant professional function can recognize painted parking lines and can park between the lines if there are 2 empty perpendicular parking spots next to each other. Prior versions of the automated parking function recognized only objects and the space between 2 objects (cars) and would park in between the 2 vehicles and not take into account the painted lines.
* the new i5 and 5 series if equipped with the premium package or above are able to add the parking assistant professional (recorded path parking) to their vehicle through the ConnectedDrive Store for a fee. There is a free trial option, a subscription option, and a buy outright option.

Can you explain how to use this with a camper?
Could you record it backing into your driveway so you can have it back in automatically and you drive out forwards every time?
Great question! Yes, you can record it backing into your driveway and it will memorize shift points (AKA: where you shifted the car from drive into reverse) as well.

@@mikey8168 Great question! The backup assistant only works in reverse gear. So backing into a parking space essentially cancels the backup assistant.
But you could record a path to start where the other path ended (and you can record paths going forward and or backward).
Question: For a Pre Order, Does BMW allow customers to special order certain options that are wanted?
Specifically, I would like to add the Bowers and Wilkins audio system and 22 sport rims ???
Good question! Unfortunately in the US the Bowers and Wilkins sound system is not available in the 40i models.
Great video! What happens if there is an unexpected object in the way of the recorded path next time you use it?
Thank You and great question! If there is an unexpected object in the way while the car is maneuvering, the car should stop and it will usually say recorded path parking canceled, obstacle in the way or something to that effect.
Hi, did they remove the recorded path feature in iDrive 8.5? I don't have it in my i5 despite having Parking Assistant Pro.
Hi! Regarding the new 5 series/i5, the parking assistant pro feature in the US is something that has to be purchased after the fact for a flat fee of $220 or it can be bought in monthly subscription packages. Personally, I think they should have added it to the car as a package and not only through an after market purchase.
When recording (in reverse) does it have to be one smooth backup or can you break to reangle your position?
Great question!
So for the recorded path parking, you can brake if you feel uncomfortable. However, grabbing the steering wheel will cancel the feature and shut it off. With that being said, if your recorded path requires multiple points to get into it (like a 3 point turn for example) it can recorded and saved in the path.
How precise do you have to be on the starting point for a return path parking path? Does my vehicle have to start out at exactly the same spot when I initiate the recorded path? Or if I am just sort of close to it? Is the margin or error inches...feet? Please LMK. Thanks in advance!

So you do have to be pretty spot on for the geotag. I am actually trying to figure out how much variance there is when it comes to this but for now I'd say you have to be super close.
I do have a part 2 video that is a practical demo of the feature... and in filming that video, there were times where the recording would not show up because I was off, by probably a foot or so but not too sure (I forgot to measure...).

The Recorded Path seems to lose its signal once I get fully inside the garage.. I never get prompted to "Save Recording". Any ideas?
I have the same exact issue and so I save the recorded path as soon as the front of the car enters the garage. However, there is still a downside because the car engages park at the end of the recorded path and turns the car off and I still must drive a couple of feet into the garage to get the car completely in….

Unfortunately it will not. It requires parking assistant professional which is only available on the 5 series and up as of right now.

The package needed to get this feature is the Parking Assistance Package which is $900.
so please for clarification tell me , it does not record a path while reversing? it only records while in drive and not reverse?

@@GTBMW1 sorry for the delay, my issue is l am wanting to record a difficult path to reverse into my garage but it requires a bit of forward and reverse to maneuver...will this work or must the forward be saved in conjunction with the reverse or should l just forget about attempting. The reason is my wife is reluctant to park in the garage and always has me do it for her.. if i could record the procedure it would make my life easier .
@@davebl9645 I have a recorded path into my garage which pulls forward, stops near a fence and then backs into my garage. It works well. I just have to be in the right spot for the option to pop up and then I can start the maneuver. It's great!

Let’s say u realize you parked wrongly after saving the record path. How would you remove/ delete the recorded path??
To remove a recorded path, you need to go into the parking settings and there should be a tan for recorded paths and you can delete them from there.
@GTBMW1 heard from my friend who drove an x7 demo vehicle and it crashed into another car, while parking with this feature,. ofcourse my x7 is also behaving weird, where it goes thru y path when i expect it to go through x path (recorded), and upon deletion of the recorded path assuming its not working perfectly, and making a new recording making it more worst than the previous,. it hit my flower bed which got broken/destructed,. weird,. no six sigma testing seem to have been done by the guys at bmw.@@GTBMW1

Great question! Product specialist role is different from a salesman. We don’t sell cars. We show cars to customers (on occasion), handle test drives, do product orientations for new owners, etc.
Technically BMW’s name for them is “BMW Genius”.

@@GTBMW1 ive never used the auto reverse path function on my '22 X5 45e (its part of the Technology Pack) and it only did 50 meters - at least this now moves in both directions 😅
Useless on the 45e. Pretty much paying for it because of the 360 camera and drive recorder.
@@krzzzy19 the drive recorder and surround cameras are definitely worth it. The back up assistant on the previous (2023 and before) only memorized 150ft of prior maneuvers. So far on the 2024’s I’ve been seeing paths being memorized of up to 650ft…
