    I just upgraded to the reserve a little over a week ago. I booked a trip and immediately received the $300 credit. I also have the Amex Platinum, which I love but the AF’s has me shaking in my boots. I love both cards and I can see myself keeping both long term. The benefits are outstanding! I’m new to your channel and your content is outstanding!

    Great video Lani!! I have the CSP and have contemplated upgrading to the CSR but I use 100% of my Chase points to transfer to Hyatt which would be the same in the CSR and already have a card that has PP access (there are no PP restaurants in my home airport). On the CSP I definitely use the “online grocery” feature when paying through a grocery APP in store which is not available on the CSR so for now the CSP works, but as they say mileage may vary! Great overview again, the videos are well done!

      Hey, Ryan! Thanks for sharing, and you're absolutely right, everyone's mileage may vary. Based on what you said, the CSR may not be the best card for you, and that's ok! You did your research and sounds like the CSP is the better card for you. Thanks for the feedback on my vids. I put a lot of time into each one to provide the best content I can.

    Dope video Lani and yes I am subscribed before you ask lol. As someone with the CSP I have been contemplating if I want to upgrade because of the scary effective $250 AF.
    I’ve used AskSebby’s calculator to break down my numbers to see if the CSR makes sense for me. I personally can earn enough UR points through regular spend (roughly 16,700) from both the CFF/CFU thus breaking even before using the credits 😁. In terms of credits I plan on using the $60 yearly DoorDash and one LHRC booking a year with my wife to take advantage of both the easy $300 credit and also the $100 experience credit. Great vid!

    I just got the card and I’m trying to learn how to use it. Thanks for the video. I have a lot of travel coming up this year. To meet the 60,000 can I use everyday purchases and bill such as my mortgage? Also I’m about to book a trip so I just go through the airlines? How do I use transfer partner?

    • @CallMeLani
      @CallMeLani  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on getting the card! Yes, you can use the card for everyday things as well. if you can pay your mortgage via credit card then it should work. I'd say make sure to check if there is a processing fee or not. (I can't pay mine with a credit card....). As for booking a trip, if paying out-of-pocket, you can book directly with the airlines, or through Chase's travel portal. You'll get more points paying out-of-pocket in the travel portal vs with the airlines directly. If booking with points, in your Chase Rewards acct, under travel, you'll see a list of transfer partners which you can transfer your points to, once tranferred you'll book the trip on the partner's site using the points you just transferred.
      If you haven't done so already, make sure to subscribe and stay in touch. Happy to continue helping you out! Also check out this video where I break down points and how to use them.

      @@CallMeLanithanks for the info Lani! When I use the card overseas do I need to say US dollars or foreign currency? It’ll be my first time traveling to the UK. Also what are things you charge to reach the bonus points? Oh and will the $300 travel credit be applied for flights? I have a hotel and flight to book soon.and lastly, my spouse is an authorized user for an extra $75- will she be able to get the TSA as well or is it just one per account? And priority pass done each get one? Hope that makes sense lol oh and one more, would you suggest I use this card for all my grocery shopping, gas and daily expenses? Or travel only?

    • @CallMeLani
      @CallMeLani  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      [cracks knucles] Ok, rapid fire!
      1) Normally I would say use local currency, but UK Pound is doing better than US dollar so as long as the merchant does not charge you to convert then pay US. If they charge, pay in local.
      2) all purchases will go toward welcome bonus spend. soo use it for anything
      3) yes, $300 travel credit will apply for flights and anything that is considered travel by Chase
      4)Global Entry/TSA credit is only 1 per account. It will not apply to your authorized user
      5) Sams with Priority Pass. Only you the account owner will get it, but you can bring in up to 2 guests with you for free. So make sure you register for it and get the app
      6) depends on of you have other cards. I recommend use the card for everything until you hit the welcome bonus. which based on your upcoming bookings etc, sounds like it won't ba an issue. But if you have another card that provides more rewards for dining or groceries use that.
      Hope that helps!@@lovealwaysjasmine

    My question is why do you say Chase is paying $600 off your vacation, but you actually paid two $550 annual fees for a total of $1100. Therefore, Chase didn’t pay for it, you did when you paid the annual fee. Can you explain this?

    • @CallMeLani
      @CallMeLani  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes, That's why I say its subjective. It's no different than someone saying your annual fee is only $250 a year because of the same $300 credit. It's depends on who/how you look at it. Everyone has their own way they spin it. I personally don't take away from the annual fee as anyone will pay $550/year in AFs no matter if you use the credit or not. You still have to pay that $550 (and that includes many other benefits too). This way the $300 travel credit is fully from Chase as a card benefit. But you have to spend $300 in travel on something to receive it.

    • @itube316
      @itube316 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You could say we're paying for the lounges, insurances and other benefits -- worth the $550-- and getting the vacation for free.

      Thanks! For sure. Let's say you have a $100 Instacart order. Right now (Q2'2024) the Chase Freedom Flex gets 5x with Amazon. so you could buy a $85 Instacart gift card from Amazon for 5pts/$, add that to your Instacart account, finish your order and pay the remaining $15 balance with your CSR (which will be removed from your statement) while this $15/month offer is still going on.

    I would have to disagree with you on that night in Miami at the Intercontinental being free. You paid for the $300 in your annual fee so not technically free.
    I use to load up my Fast Trak account to use up the $300 in travel credit. You said you fly out of SFO so I’m sure you are aware of FastTrak. I did that during covid when I wasn’t traveling. Since then I downgraded my Reserve and applied for and got the welcome bonus on the Preferred.
    Most of the benefits you mentioned are available for free on tons of other cards. Priority Pass, Global Entry, Insurances etc. I just was not getting the value of $550 annual fee or $250 actual annual fee. Maybe in the future things will change but as for now all my bases are covered with other cards and all my cards combined do not add up to $550 or even $250 annually

    • @CallMeLani
      @CallMeLani  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, jaymeez! great to hear from you again. Yeah, I know FastTrak. I was in Bay Area last week! 2 things here.
      1) Awesome that you realized that your situation changed and you reevaluated your setup. Smart move!
      2) regarding the travel credit, that's why I say its subjective. Each person see's it their own way. I don't consider my AF as $250 as I will pay the $550 for all the benefits including the $300 credit. The difference is, if I don't spend anything on travel with the card, I still have to pay $550/year. So because I look at it that way, I say I saved (or chase paid) that $300

      You could say the Lyft Pink/Instacart/DoorDash membership credit cover that, but I personally don't think of it like that. The other benefits help me justify that value (for me) as I use almost all of them. I've saved myself thousands of dollars from those benefits just this year alone. I appreciate the comment. And there's nothing wrong with avoiding it. If it doesn't work for you, then it doesn't work for you. Happy to hear you're doing your research!

      I think you glossed over how powerful having Hyatt as a travel partner is with chase. I’ve gotten 21 stays in 2023 with Hyatt on reward stays with three nights in Tokyo as an example. The thing about Hyatt vs other hotel partners is you can get reward night stays for as little as 6500 points vs 60,000 at a place like Marriott. But good job on the other stuff.

    • @geauxrun
      @geauxrun ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jgennitti Please explain how you get 21 Hyatt stays every year with the Sapphire Reserve card. I do not count the sign on bonus or the amount of spend that I would need to put on the card to generate enough points for a hotel stay as covering the cost of the card.
      In your example of 21 award nights @6500 points per night you would need 136.5K points per year. There are better ways for me to utilize those points than spending night at a Hyatt Place hotel.
      I’m not knocking anyone who uses the card. I just don’t see how to recoup the remaining $250 of the annual fee after using the annual travel credit of $300.

    • @jgennitti
      @jgennitti ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not just off the bonus, you earn points by using the card through the year. Im just saying what I did last year with my card. plus I use the other chase cards to earn more points that have $0 annual fee and transfer to my sapphire. You need the sapphire card in order to send points to Hyatt. 6500 points is essentially $65. If I wanted to get the same room with cash it would be close to $200 a night plus resort fees. Thats what I use my card the most for. There are very few card that let you use Hyatt and all charge an annual fee. You also make it up on airport lounges. To get that perk is a $400 value.
      You can get the sapphire preferred card for $99 instead if the annual fee is too high on reserve, but you won’t get airport lounge access, but can still transfer points to Hyatt. It all comes down to if you travel a lot. If you don’t, it’s not worth it.

    • @justsmy5677
      @justsmy5677 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @geauxrun - Two points that were not highly emphasized in the video.
      1) Airport lounge access, to me, in invaluable. Even if I am traveling economy, I can access the lounge with the Chase Saphire Reserve card. Over a year of traveling (I'm semi-retired and travel a fair amount) by eating and drinking in the lounge for free versus buying food at airport restaurants I save much more that the $250 effective annual fee ($550AF minus the $300 travel rebate equals an effective annual fee of $250). The lounge is a much better place to spend a layover when you factor in better wifi (usually), more comfortable furniture and environment, food and drink, AND not having to use a public restroom that 5,000 people have used in the last hour. The lounge restrooms are normally nicer and better maintained. Some lounges have quiet rooms and shower facilities.
      2) Hyatt points are much more valuable than other hotel points, since the number of points required for a free night's stay at Hyatt is much lower. Transferring points to Hyatt also allows me to work toward elite status with Hyatt, giving me access to their club lounge (room upgrades, free breakfast, happy hour including booze, soft drinks and heavy hors d'oeuvres).
      So, airport lounge access and transferring almost all my points to Hyatt are the two biggest perks in my opinion. Cheers!

    The CSR is a great card, but to say that room is "free" is just misleading. You simply just pre-paid it with the annual fee. The card is great in that you get value back after paying the annual fee if you use it correctly, and the other benefits it has.

    • @CallMeLani

      Hey, Julio! I appreciate your opinion and feedback. Everyone looks and spins AFs differently. Some would say its "technically" $250, or that the Amex Gold is "essentially" $10/year after the food credits. It's still just a credit. This is why I say in the video, its "subjective" depending on how you look at it. Then go on to explain how it truly works and explain the proper process. But regarding the AF, I'll pay $550/year. That's non-negotiable.

      @CallMeLani I like how you explain this. You did call it a credit when you explained it too. @Juliozev96 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @user-ml5bz2cg9p There is a difference saying the effective annual fee is $250, vs saying a $300 room is free. One is lowering the effective annual fee if you were going to spend the 300 anyways(key on SPENDING it), and one is saying the room is free.

      Hi, Guadalupe! Congrats on your new card! Once you get used to it, I'd like to hear your thoughts about it and how you use it for your family. As for your question, The 1st thing I recommend is buy your tickets using the card as you'll ensure you hit that welcome bonus. 2nd, assuming you'll be paying all cash due to not having points, you can still use the Chase travel Portal to book those tickets. This way you'll 5pts/$ vs. just 3 and your $300 credit will still apply. Also know that even if you have just a few points already from your Unlimited card, you can move those points to your Reserve card and do a split booking in the travel portal and get the 1.5ct/pt still. Split means use some points and some cash. This could save you as well depending on how many points you have.
