I like that House respects the mom because, not only will she not take his guff but, rather than merely getting angry with him, she shoots right back and gives as good as she gets.
Something could be said about House addressing the Elephant in the room immediately. Instead of pretending not to notice the Mom is a dwarf. They could miss the solution while trying to be polite. Honestly the Mom is hot and has a personality. I could get over it.
It's actually, "How strong do you really want her to have to be" There is one more dimension to this rhetorical question... House is actually pleading to the mom to free her daughter from the obsession.
"I want you to have what I can't." Man, its hard to argue with that one. She found the perfect words. She was a little bit stubborn at first about it but then House seeded that response perfectly with "how strong do you really want her to have to be?" and it all just made sense to her. How could you not want everything for your child? She's one of the very few characters in this show that could actually change their mind about something quickly without incessant pestering and badgering. Just one heartfelt sentiment from one freak to another was all it took.
From a parent perspective, those words struck a cord. I want the world for my kid but were limited on what we can. What we can, there would be no hesitation for any parent. 💯

Her body language, however, did seem to be open to the idea, and although House did not continue to persist, and (I wouldn’t have either, although I also never would’ve said what House did in the first place) I think there are some men who would’ve tried and been successful in that same situation.

True for you and me. But she was raised by a mom who probably told her every day that normal folks are boring to make her feel better about herself. She was afraid her own mom would think she was one of those "boring normies". She wanted to be sure her mom wouldn't lump her in with the ignorable crowd.
I keep telling this to myself: keep things low, blend in... I easily standout for whatever reason, lots of people recognize me, remembers what I wear, etc without me putting in effort. I just want to be like everybody, be boring. Be totally Unremarkable. I want to be normal.
The actor playing the mom is Meredith Eaton and she had a part in the movie "Unconditional Love" (she played Bates' daughter in law) that came out around 2002, with Kathy Bates, Rupert Everett, Lynn Redgrave, Julie Andrews, Jonathan Pryce, and Dan Ackroyd. It basically went straight to DVD, but I liked it, and have a copy.
“You want me to be like everyone else?” How about, “No, I want you to be as healthy as you can possibly be.” Doesn’t even have to concern the height issue.
Meredith Eaton is fantastic and so versatile. I loved her role in NCIS. She was good on MacGyver, too, but I just couldn't get into the show as a whole because I'd loved the older one as a kid. I wish she had another major role in an ensemble cast.
This is one of my favorite episodes. The mom hits back just as hard as House hits her (metaphorically speaking of course…I don’t want the algorithm to lock me up). The mutual respect at the end is one of the best endings on the show.

The site stings afterwards for a good while unlike other injections where you only get a small scratch from the needle and no discomfort after. It's nothing to do with how skilled or not the person injecting is and no you don't sound insensitive. Nobody like getting a shot or having blood taken so I don't envy you that job. People can complain for a number of reasons, genuine or not.

I can't believe a stool or being lifted was necessary. I've never seen one of those exam tables that didn't have pullout steps to make getting up and down easier. Even in the eighties they had them.
I swear half of the most capable doctors are the biggest jerks on the planet. Makes me wonder if the writers noticed the same thing and used it to create this character lol
Its 100% true. My sister cut her teeth in the local ER. All the best doctors were complete and utter A-holes.....BUT they were also intensly dedicated to their craft. When i decided to get my spinal fusion my sister made sure i had the best spine surgeon in the city......complete jerk......he also fixed the vast majority of my chronic pain i had been dealing with for almost 15 years. In the words of muhammad ali. "It ain't bragging if it's true".

Girls with dwarfish in my experience are pretty damn feisty... I walked into a flying J once and went to the Wendy's inside for lunch... The woman working there had dwarfish. Apparently she liked me... She walked around the counter as I placed my order filling up the condiments and walks right up to me and says, "hey" I turn in that direction and look down she's staring right at my crotch that's 6" inches from her face... Smiles and looks up and says," you need some ketchup" I was so caught off guard... I started blushing., she knew exactly what she was doing... 😂
At 2.30 ..the smile on House's face was him falling in love !!❤ House is always a softy for kids ..because they are more honest And to.people who are different because he empathizes.. Its the "normal " adults he has problems with because their normalcy is the price he pays with his genius ...and normal people lie .....
