I have owned this lens for just under one week and haven't as yet had time or opportunity to use it. I bought it to replace my EF 100-400 mkii zoom which I have used for nearly 8 years. That lens was an absolute peach and I have loved using it. Unfortunately, the change to Canon's RF mount has meant that even though I hated parting with it I had to be realistic in recognising that it won't be long before Canon stops support for the EF mount lenses. With several offers being run on the price of the RF 100-500 and trade-in bonuses, it made financial sense to upgrade to the new lens. However, I can honestly say that the usual joy and excitement of taking delivery of any new lens was most assuredly missing on this occasion. Instead I almost felt as though I was being robbed by being almost forced to change to the new system. Still, I can recall feeling the same way when Canon changed from the FD mount to the EF mount. Thankfully it doesn't happen that often and I'm fairly certain this one will see me through to the end of my life.
@@robertlawrence7958 I hope you enjoy this lens as much as the 100-400. I’m finding this lens is with me for almost every trip because it’s so portable.
Thanks for these RF lens real world reviews you've been doing recently I've got a lot out of them. Can you tell me what the acrylic coating is that you put on this lens? Do you have a link for it?
Hi Thanks for the comment. The acrylic coatings can be found here - www.lifeguard-design.com/ but there are other websites with similar products so it might be worth shopping around.
The RF-200-800 is actually weather sealed. It has the rubber ring. You can suspect the weather sealing is not as robust than the 100-500 but it is not all that clear.

Remember that the 200-800 is not an L series lens so it doesn't have any of the special glass or other features in the 100-500L.
@@garyrivera895 Sure, I know. However weather sealing is not typical of non-L lenses, and the 200-800 definitely have it.
