- Direct Democracy Ireland MEP candidate Tom Darcy (alongside the learned Ben Gilroy) gives us a lesson in Irish history on yer man, Constant Markievicz, and his great rebellion to protect property developers...
(Constance Markievicz)
If only we had men like Markievicz around today.
I'm so happy this video can still be found
He's more of an Intermittent Markievicz
Here's the story in a nutshell: he owes a lot of money because he borrowed a lot of money and he wants the citizens of this country to pay it back for him while he retains what he purchased with the borrowed dosh. His sense of entitlement would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious.
Must be a Banker with that sense of entitlement, failed businesses like AIB should have gone to the wall under free market rules. Instead they socialised losses, and you the public will pay their gambling debts for generations to come.
No Brian, he's not a banker, he's one of the other fellas, a failed developer. So is his pal, the ex Fianna Fail man Jerry Beades. But you're sort of right, in terms of how they view their entitlement, there's not much difference.
This has to be one of the funniest things I've seen in ages!! What a bunch of tools
He just kept going that markievicz. A real man's man, a hero..
When one speaks publicly about a subject, it is good to have done a bit of homework beforehand. Yes, I know that is revolutionary thinking for some people.
Anyone else pick up on the fact that Markievicz died in a hospital of TB about 8 years after D'Arcy is alleging she died fighting for Ireland?
Appendicitis
It's the way he emphasises the 'his' that gets me! Such confidence he says it with.
He is going to have to live with that video clip for the rest of his life. Hehehe.
when did Countess Markiewicz have the sex change operation? and when did she/he die in "that park over to avoid paying tax?
Sure, this is it.
Countest Constance Markievicz Was Some Man For one Womb Man ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Much love you beautiful Rebel ❤
This is the greatest clip of all time.
Constant Markey Fitz was very reliable.
We must be constantly markiewicz against taxation suppression. RIP Tom Darcy's brain.
Constant was a true Brit With true grit!
She fought in the war for independence
What a jinnet
Looks like we've already had our first LGBT Cabinet minister then in 1922.
He owes €17.4million!
Ah he was a good lad that Constance
At least it was only seen by millions of people.
THAT COUNTESS WAS SOME F E L L A
Variable Markiewicz is yer only man.
He didn't even say Constance Markievicz he said Constant Markievicz.
So this is Ireland!
I don't know much about American history, but I'm pretty sure what he said about the Napoleonic wars was correct in every particular.
Constant and his sister Constance were not related to Countess Markievicz
Hes not too bright
There's actually a series of errors in his comments e.g. Mrs Markievicz never died in a park.
Clever dude, a history professor perhaps?
1. What's now the ROI became sovereign on 6 Dec.1922 as the Irish Free State. There's no "Republic of Éire". There's the Republic of Ireland. Éire is the Irish name of the state, and has been since 1937. Ireland is the Eng. name. The Republic of Ireland Act was not a change of name, just an affirmation that it was now a republic and outside the BE. ROI Act signed 21 Dec 1948; in force 18 Apr 1949.
2. The UK recognised Ireland's ind. in 1922 when the Anglo-Irish Treaty came into effect.
3. 6 Dec.
LOFL
what a TOOL
SHE died from Peritonitis in 1927.
Constance Markievcz contracted TB while helpng the downtrdden poverty afflicted citizens of Dublin on a fulltime basis so in my eyes she did indeed die for Ireland.
I think I heard 'bars tool' spoken about once by a famous historical cleric a father Ted Crilly he lived on the Irish leper colony
He probably could've got away with that if he didn't pause slightly and then completely over-emphasise the 'HIS'.
Shocking!
Fuckin' hell man, you wanna get that seen to.
Parnell used to live in a log box with a pheasant
even funnier than that lad who fell on the ice on the news that time - fecking gobsheen !
Amen!
No problem :)
It was negotiated and signed by a plenopotentiary envoy of the UDI government of the "Irish Republic". It was not imposed. Or is everything "imposed" when you don't get 100% of what you want? It's called negotiation. It was also later passed by Dáil Éireann and the House of Commons of Southern Ireland (to satisfy both nationalist theory and the UK government). But there's obviously no reasoning with die-hard shinners, which is why there was a brutal civil war that achieved nothing.
Oh. My. God.
Got his grip on the 'facts' just like a politician
HIS life?
Yes, unfortunately.
However it doesn't really matter because Direct Democracy Ireland is about direct democracy, not a set of charismatic leaders who will solve all our problems according to their own discretion and initiative (i.e. it's about democracy itself, not any given member).
And no, I'm not a member.
1. Ireland became a Republic in 1949
2. You made an error here. Éire was the name adopted under Bunreacht na hEireann (1937), when Ireland was still part of the Commonwealth. The 'Republic of Ireland' only came into being in 1949, as previously stated. Hence, in 1937, the British would have no reason to 'recognise' Eire, as she was not, at that time, seeking absolute independence and departure from the BritishCommonwealth of Nations. In 1949, Britain accepted the Declaration of the Republic and
Couldn't believe my ears listening to this fool on the news last night!
Gob Bluth has let himself go...
I'm English I even know about Countess Markievicz.
Scarlet for him.
See, your mistake here is confusing direct democracy as a concept with Direct Democracy Ireland as a party. The latter is very much a vehicle for self promotion by the likes of Ben™.
Glad to see it's going well, in fairness.
That guy probably owes millions. I'd love to have one punch at his face though
good old constant Markiewicz
seen tat on the news and spat out my tea laughing...say he feels like a muppet
the British passed the Ireland Act (UK) 1949, cementing Northern Ireland's place within the UK.
3. Ireland's independence day is January 21st, the day n 1921 when Dáil Éireann issued the Declaration of Independence.
The disparaging remarks, as you put it, are well deserved. It is not for you or anyone to silence critics of those who seek recognition from the public. It is a ridiculous & frightening error to make when citing historical precedents in an effort to 'rouse the people'.
That's not Ben Gilroy speaking.
Bet he was even at the wrong protest
We're.*
And I most certainly am not.
Was praying that somebody else noticed this, what a bollucks!
I'm not confusing anything. Direct Democracy Ireland advocates for more direct democracy.
She was a woman and she wasn't even killed
Not only was Countess Markievicz a WOMAN but she wasnt even killed! :D :D :D
Duh! Sure isnt he nodding his head in agreement with him.
Can someone please confirm that he's not Irish?! Else our education system left him behind.
