Murder of deaf and mute man Eamonn McDevitt by the British Army in Strabane, 1971
มุมมอง 2.5K10 ปีที่แล้ว
Eamonn McDevitt was just 28-years-old when he was shot dead during a riot in the Head of the Town on August 19 1971. A follow up police investigation found that Mr McDevitt had been targeted because soldiers believed he was waving a pistol in the air. That sequence of events has long been discredited yet remains the official record of what happened.

My dad (Gerry Valente) had a fish and chip shop in 6 Marrowbone Lane near Pimlico in the late 40s, my Grandad Valente came down from Belfast late 20s/30s he was the first to make ice cream in Dublin around Summerhll he also had a Chipper on Summerhill. The family moved out to Artane and my Dad opened a Chip Shop beside Beltons pub on Collin's Avenue. He then opened The Fryer Tuck on Ballybough Road facing Conliffe Road. My uncle Edward had chippers in Inchicore an Fenian Street. I'm in the Pub business now, first in Glasgow and now in Florida.

So let me understand , the Sinn Fein bloke states that the IRA fought a legitimate war ,really !!! which involved bombing and murdering innocent civilians. Was Enniskillen, Bloody Friday , Claudy , Birmingham, Guildford , Le Mon etc etc part of a legitimate war ?. Was murdering a single mother who was collecting Census forms by putting a bullet in her head at point blank range a legitimate killing ? Etc etc , What rubbish is this ? Then after 30yrs of murder and mayhem the IRA end their campaign on British Government terms by accepting the Principle of Consent, recognising that N.Ireland is an integral part of UK until it’s citizens say otherwise . So what the hell was the point of the conflict ?

Firstly I fully support a United Ireland preferably within the Commonwealth. Having said that the atrocities that were carried out by the terrorists on both sides were utterly unforgivable. On the Republican side, the Catholic Church has a lot to answer for in regard to the comfort and succor that it offered.

Ireland seems to be a country of 'Quislings'. So many of them seem to forget that it was an armed rebellion that gave a part of Ireland freedom and that the indigenous Irish in the still occupied north were so mistreated that they had fight back.
