It absolutely baffles me how we have such old unpolished gems like this that have never been capitalised on. Cyber Sleuth wasn't bad and Survive seems like a very different type of game, but a new version of this game with improved QoL would surely be a goldmine.
I think the opposite entirely. I think that there's a lot of people who like them but its not really as accessible gameplay wise and I think after Survive constantly having your digimon die wouldn't be a good fit. The gameplay is more niche than cybersleuth with i think stuck with people better. But hey, apparently we can expect a big leak soon
This game literally got 2 direct sequels in this style of gameplay with Re:digitize on PSP and 3DS and Next Order on Vita and PS4 (with Switch and Steam ports later on)...
DW1 is really a special experience, there's so many little details in this game, it's very "organic" even if that word goes against the fact that everything is digital, Pokemon Red/Blue gave you an easy and streamlined gameplay but ultimately it still felt like playing a game, Digimon World 1 really gets you invested in each area, trying to uncover its secrets and dealing with its gameplay cycle loop which is similar to Majora's Mask in a way. I think the pre-rendered backgrounds were very expressive, the surreal mixture of nature and hardware (which is also similar to the Digimon Adventure anime which came out later), I think that atmosphere is something that Re:Digitize and Next Order lack a bit, the locations don't get you in that same mood, considering that now the Digimon Story games are getting more popular, it's getting more unlikely for new Digimon World games, a shame because I wanted to see them perfect the formula and bring out all the best elements from the 3 games and go even beyond.
Yeah, would be cool to see a game that can manage both the digital pet simulator and the RPG aspects, maybe even some dungeons to crawl through. Is there any game in the series that comes close to that? I only really watched the animes, mostly Frontier, and I was curious to see which games to try and how.
i remember when i was a kid. i would look up to guides online and print every page possible from start to the end of the game. The printer worked hard printing over 50-100 pages. and then i get a good smack from my dad for wasting his ink & paper. Good times...
Same lol, I would lie and say it was for school. Also we kinda had to since it took an hour to get online and load the walkthrough in the first place so might as well print it to not to that again haha
The art style of this game is just absolutely wonderful. It gives almost a post-post-apocalyptic feeling to it. It's a world that maybe was once a modern world that was destroyed, only for life to grow over it's remains and the creatures that inhabit it now have used relics of the old world to build all these nice weird little settlements. It's a style of world that you rarely see in not just games, but media in general. I liked later games like ReDigitize and Next Order plenty enough, but the worlds in those games all felt so sterile compared to DW1. Part of that may be the differences in color too though. DW1 had much darker and dirtier tones.
This review is definitely a much better improvement over the former. The script was really good this time around. Digimon world 1 is my favourite game of all time. I’ve played it every year at the same time since I was 14 years old. I’m glad to see it being covered again and am looking forward to world 2s video,
I Love digimon world 1, it was the greatest adventure that i have as kid. The premise is simple: You are in a digital world, this monster is your partner, good luck. You know NOTHING, you must intuit, ask and learn on your own, you are alone in a world to discover. poor young people of today who play pokemon sword and shield, which seem like walking simulators, yes they are beautiful worlds, but they restrict you from dangerous areas, they remind you at all times what attacks to use, they constantly restore your health, they never catch you by surprise in a bad situation.
Well said, I agree entirely. I enjoy Pokemon and have been playing since I was a kid as well, but Digimon is and always has been on a whole nother level. If they had continued making games in the style of Digimon World 1 I could easily see Digimon being more popular than Pokemon in this day and age.
Straight up, I hate when games stop you from walking into tougher areas you shouldn't be at. You know the best way to figure out I shouldn't be somewhere? By getting absolutely rocked when I do go there. Lots of games allow you to make those big mistakes, and generally, they're the ones that people remember.
@@hspets4467 yeah and the bitch ass Blue always waiting you in the worst scenario, exploring left side of green city surprise! Battling team rocket? Surprise! The actual "rivals" ask if you are ready for a battle lmao and after defeat them heals your Pokemons
@@Yoe617 the art, the music and the feel. I know it could’ve been waaaay more polished and battles kinda sucks but overall its the best Digimon game ever Made
There's nothing like Digimon World. It adapts the Virtual Pets and I'd argue the Digimon life cycle makes it unique compared to other JRPG's. While there's grinding, nothing is stopping you from making an Ultimate provided you know what you're doing and know how to manage your time. And you have two paths around File Island (with some side areas) to explore before they intersect at the end.
I decided to play it again for nostalgia and some people have come up with evolution and technique calculators which I wish we had back then. I’ll evolve into every single form this time, take that, 12 year old me. The game is not for everyone, it’s very unique but I enjoy it for what it is.
I think the fact that it's not for everyone is what makes is special, you know? Here's this really awkward, bizarre experience that a lot of people are going to hate at first glance, and maybe even the second or third, but the claws sink deep, and it's hard to shake them.
This game demolished me as a child, I never got any where with it. BUT man it never left my brain because it looked so damn cool, the backgrounds are just so memorable.
Back in the days when the internet was less ubiquitous people used published strategy guides and it was my best friend while playing the game. Oddly learning from the guide was a great deal of fun and it was actually still a challenge to get the Digimon I wanted as the details were not always clear cut. Making it my mission to seek out every Digimon on the list and to plan out my strategy to get them all in as few lives as possible. Some parts of the guide were even obscured like the Ultimate evolutions (That were actually Megas) that had a big "TOP SECRET" stamp to give it a little mystery while giving you the clues. It's a part of history that is often forgot about now that you can go online and find multiple free text versions and some consider using a guide to be a practice "against the way the game was meant to be played". But I love it all the same, learning from that little book was a treasure. I went on an adventure pouring though evolution tables, finding new Digimon I would have missed, and just having more fun by being informed. Edit: Small typo
I was having a very similar thought just the other day about Final Fantasy Tactics, and how I grew up having a guide to it (and a few other games), and how often it's taken for granted nowadays that you can just look up anything you want. To the point where games actively rely on an online community to help find all the secrets and goodies in their games. It's really kinda neat to have gotten to watch/be a part of that transition.
I followed the guide to go to that secret island to finish the end game and could never find the seadramon who takes you there so to this day even though its in every guide I still don't trust that it exists
I was so obsessed with this game when I was younger that I had mentally mapped and modelled at least 3 DLC's worth of additional content. Jam packed with new digimon, new neighbouring islands, a larger file city, Mega levels (of course), etc. All with that authentic DW1 feel and jank. Too bad Bandai didn't hire me at 10, I would've made them millions.

Nice revisit! This topic was what got me into the channel in the first place I think c: I still find it very disappointing how this was the best Digimon game ever made. Every other one just moves further and further from what it was about and becomes more of an awkward Pokemon spin imo.
I'm a pretty negative guy, but I try my best to avoid the "negative youtube man" thing. People have shit standards and the overwhelming attempt to be positive is why everything sucks now, because nobody holds anything to a reasonable level. That said, Digimon World is still great, despite the flaws.
The Goat came back, is good to see you revisiting this great title, it's definitely rough around the edges but overall gives a great experience , I still prefer de World 3 for nostalgia reasons, but this gameplay style is definitely the most unique for digimon, cant wait for the World 2 re-review.
I never left, I just ran out of Digimon games to cover in English, and my Japanese is... bad. Legit, if they stepped up production or more fan translations came out, I'd be doing more Digimon stuff because I am so far down this hole I got stuck. also digimon world 2 is gonna be interesting, I hope it's not as painful as I remember it being :^)
I think this is the best digimon world video I've seen thus far, something focused on explaining why the experience of the game is so unique and why people like to experience it despite all the clunk and clank in it.
Unironically, I've been waiting for you to re-do a video on Digimon World 1. One of the most flawed gems on the console, and one that there's so few (good) videos of on TH-cam.
It's been a long time coming, that OG video makes me shudder. I hope I at least did it some justice this time. I don't watch anything I want to cover myself, so Digimon and most RPGs are just flat off the cards. Surely there's good Digimon World videos out there, right?
@@Caspicum I promise you there's not, lmfao. It's legit how I found this channel years back, was your old one (the one you hate, haha) was the only good one. This game flew hard under the radar. The only reason we even had it growing up was my older brother borrowed it from a friend who never asked for it back.
Glad you spent time on the sound design. Not really something I would throw on a best of all time playlist and just listen to daily, but taken together it does SUCH a good job.
I got pretty giddy when I saw the dark cloud footage too. That game is up on my top 5 games of all time. It didn’t get enough love for how great it is.
And if you played the PAL version, a few areas are completely locked due to errors done in the translation that messed with certain triggers & flags Its hard to complete the game when a bunch of recruitable digimons & areas are impossible tor each, but it can be done :"D
my biggest gripe with this game was how cryptic the whole process of digivolutions was. without using a guide its basically impossible to get a lot of different ones with the requirements being so specific and the lack of information provided by the game. that is also the one thing i think you could and should've touched on more in this review, otherwise great video.
Solid video of a solid game, subbing for that alone but your descriptions of the music were great and funny, "it's brass layered with trumpets and shit" is such a beautiful description.
It is funny that you are talking about it. I was going to play it last night, but I couldn't find the disc. I put it in a disc tray in the house and I have to find it. I wanted to play it because I felt this sense of nostalgia and just was so ready to play it. Man, I was so disappointed that I couldn't play it again last night. It is a game that despite its flaws has this amazing appeal to it. The opening cutscenes, the visuals, the music, the gameplay. Truly a gem.
Emulators have made the experience so much better, I believe on my old psx emulator it had s fast forward and save state function. Absolutely amazing for games like these.
@@jamesbeeler610 Yeah, I used an emulator for it years ago and I remember that it did make it better. I felt bad about using an emulator and stopped, but I own the game and even if I didn't, Bandai Namco haven't done anything about the original; so I would love to emulate it again.
Digimon World Took me to a whole other world when i was little. Helped me enjoy the simple thing of adventure. Excellent explanation of the progression, ,music effect, game play, and style! Even understanding how getting discouraged can happen. Digimon doing poor could be an advantage. So many amazing points.
I'm so hoping for a proper remaster of this game, and not a remake which changes too much, just basically a 1:1 copy with touched up graphics and backgrounds, game-breaking bugs and glitches removed (apart from speedrun glitches etc.), and some QOL updates. No crazy 3D worlds and stuff, a huge part of the charm are the drawn backgrounds and top-down perspective for me. I still play it every so often to this day, hands down one of my favorite games of all time!
I also love it so so much that the city actually changes with your progress, that makes it feel so much more alive! Games nowaday rarely have that as far as I know, at least not to that extent. The best example I can think of is the Tarrey Town quest in Breath of the Wild, which happens to be my favorite quest. All the later digimon games also feel so lackluster to me, the feel and magic of this game seems to just be lost with time :(
@TheLarkaanimation next order was pretty good, I quite enjoyed that one!. The thing is though that there's just 0 polish to the newer digimon games, much like the pokemon games of late. It feels like there's no love put into it like a ni no kuni or a breath of the wild etc., you know?
Great video! As a Digimon World expert whose friends refuse to be convinced that it's not bullshit it's really fun trust me, I always appreciate uncovering another with good taste.
I think Digimon World is one of those experiences you have to be ready for. If you're not ready to really commit to a game, and try to learn its bizarre, unintuitive systems, you're definitely gonna have a rough time.
@@Caspicum That's definitely true. I think Digimon World's reputation as an impossible nightmare prematurely cuts people off from wanting to take that leap.
@@digimonkaiser I feel like that has more to do with people not wanting to take the time to learn the game's mechanics more than anything else coupled with the fact that they don't seem to want a guide to be necessary to try to get the Digimon they want that turns people off to this game so easily. It's because of these things that people are quick to write it off and are more often than not confused about things because they aren't taking the time to try to understand them, which in turn causes most reviews you can typically find online to be more on the negative side
This game is a master piece, a lot of my childhood memories was about playing this game with my friends and seeing which one of us could get the best Digimon to battle in the tournament with our saves in the memory cards.
Awesome to see that we're getting a re-run on the classic DWs There's just something about this game man, every so often I feel the need to subject myself to the gym grind, the unforgiving lategame areas and the fucking RNG once again just to see that ps1 magic, few other games have a world (heh) that feels so nice to experience.
I only recently beat world 1 and if I'm honest it's such a great experience that I personally think needed a few more quality of life elements to be perfect bit it's still one of the greatest digimon games
Straight up, I've legitimately never played anything like it. Even Next Order and RE:Digitize are cheap imitations. They're good, but they're not OG good.
Re:Digitize decode is an actual canonical sequel to this one, and its the improvement over it, whoever I cannot lie, World 1 is visually unique, while Decode is just gameplay perfection.
@@tehonlynoobs5556 Re Digitize is completely fine, the one that was crap was Next Order, with the newbie forced mode that made infinite evo popups to tell you like a baby what to do in the game, even during the final boss.
I just wish it didn't rely on rng a lot. Like finding the ball boys, learning techniques, needing happy shrooms to make my buddy happier after trying to obtain a ball boy except MetalMamemon because who thought 15+ care mistakes was a good idea.
RNG is there for a reason, learning techniques being anything lower than 100% acquisition means it's RNG, but a guaranteed rate, means you'd only have to fight the one encounter one time, or I guess twice if they have more moves, but instead of a generic encounter functioning as a generic encounter with a chance of picking up their abilities, it'd just become an ability-giver who happens to be a generic encounter. maybe I romanticize RNG a bit but I think it serves a very specific purpose, in giving each player a unique experience as certain elements cannot be controlled consistently. i had to edit this because I wrote it like a stupido and it made no sense.
About 08:10, you can deal with tiredness by resting; there are NPC digimons that offer you rest, such as the one on the right of Jijimon's house in the beginning of the game and Centarumon once he joins. By resting, you recover HP and MP, as well as some tiredness. Sadly the "tiredness meter" is a hidden value not shown to the player, so under-resting and over-resting are both very easy to do.
Being waiting for a new digmon world game video. I just remember how wandering around in this game its such a great experience (maybe from nostalgia factor) but still great game to play if you like taking care a digimon.
A new Casp vid on Digimon! And it's Digimon World! Glad to know you've seen the light and became one of us! :) Man, this just made me want to see a port of Next Order...if not another World game that's also on the PC.
Getting too fatigued via training or battle is actually not a care mistake, but it does lower your Digimon's lifespan by a bit each time it happens. You can talk to Punimon in Jijimon's house or Centaurumon in the clinic after recruiting him to rest for an hour, relieving fatigue and restoring a small amount of HP and MP, with resting at the clinic being more effective than resting with Punimon.
The air of mystery and how daunting going into unexplored areas was is what I remember most about this game. Also having to spend hours training to then have 30-60 minutes with a tough Digimon to make safe exploration possible... I feel like if this game had an Easy mode like Next Order had, were all that changes is that you get double the stat gains when training, it would be a much better game.
I only play American versions for videos, so it's been a hot minute since I've played the PAL one. So many people have told me about that, and it's crazy. Apparently there's a way to glitch in there which you can do on legit hardware, and it doesn't seem *too* complex, but still what a devastating bug. also i hate the font of the PAL version.
I played this game as a kid. My digimon that I'd been grinding for days to evolve up died and it was one of the most traumatic incidents of my childhood.
this is literally the game that made me lifelong eternal friends, 22 years ago a bunch of stranger play this game in some random ps1 rental store, one of them is me, by playing this AMAZINGLY fun game we trade walkthrough with each other, then we become friend, bests of friend that last for a life time thank you digimon world, because of you i have a fun community, so for me this game is the ultimate best game of all time, there will never be any other game that can surpassed this game
@@CephasTheWanderer There weren't any remakes, What we did get was games like Digimon World Re:Digitize which is game in a different (Although with a few similarities) setting with a different story. They're more like a sucessor to the OG digimon world than an actual remake.
Yeah the successors are too polished to capture that raw sense of exploration that the OG offers. They're still good games, but the jank is what gives Digimon World its unique character. I think even if you tried to capture it, it'd feel artificial, so I don't see Digimon World ever being surpassed unfortunately. Still Next Order was a fun time.
@@Caspicum Yeah there was something unique about the original, sadly I was never able to beat it in part due to the jank, and in part due to not being able to find what I had to do and just wandering around aimlessly.
@@Caspicum I love Digimon World Next Order, but I certainly wouldn't call it polished, at least in comparison to something like Cyber Sleuth. The animations at times feel very cheap, but that didn't stop me from putting in countless hours and beating the game 100% three separate times.
8:05 Tiredness can be cured by going to a chair in Jijimon's basic house (if you upgrade it with Monzaemon it won't be there anymore). You can also cure it by talking to Centarumon in his hospital once you recruit him (I highly recommend doing this ASAP to avoid being blocked from curing tiredness)
Would love to see a remaster of this game! I was originally going to say a remaster trilogy of all 3 Digimon World games on PS1, but that seems almost like too big of a dream lol
I'm usually against remakes and remasters and whatever because something gets lost in the process. The original games usually have a level of charm that is impossible to recapture. However, I think these three games are so technically impressive but are held back by really minor, surface level bloat issues that a remake or whatever would do them some good.
@@Caspicum completely agree with you on how some games lose something when being remastered. Digimon World 3 would probably look the best as a remaster, thanks to how amazingly well it has aged with its sprite based graphics in general, but also that said, it probably needs a remaster the least out of the 3 games. I feel that it's only a matter of time until DW1 gets the treatment though 👍
@@vancelim8840 indeed I have, and it's so unfortunate that we never got an official release here in the west. I've thought about playing it through emulation and add a translation patch, but it just doesn't feel right to do so.
Great video man! This game played such a huge role in my childhood. It's certainly is a beginners unfriendly game, but once you get the hang of training and digivolution conditions, it becomes such a great game, with cool twists and a lot of replayability
I’m 29 now, but in grade 2, a bunch of older kids came up to me and told me that Sukamon was a super rare card, and that I should trade me holographic Machamp for it. Why couldn’t they have just let me think I got a good trade? They fucking started laughing and informed me of how dumb I was with my trade after they ripped me off.
I remember my bro bought this game and brought it home and I was mad at him for wasting money on garbage, but then 15 minutes in, got hooked and it turned out to be my favorite ps1 game EVER.
very good video and I like your focus on aesthetics (not really focus but attention it deserves). but i am surprised you haven't mentioned the collection of cards! there's so many places where you can trade /w NPCs etc., it's so wierd yet rewarding, at least it was for 13yr old me, ah. also: arena fights. but ok yeah, really a unique game and life changing for all of us who enjoyed it in our childhoods. kudos, keep it up
I remember playing this game WAY back when it came out, and I do remember that I absolutely loved it. Sadly, other than the fact that I do remember beating the main story, I can't really remember too much about it overall...other than the fact that, for some reason, I really enjoyed the curling minigame. No idea why that is.
I'm always here for ya, buddy. Remember, go for walks, enjoy nature, get your sunlight, stay hydrated, lift heavy, enjoy Digimon. If you follow these rules you will always be powerful and joyous. I want Survive to be amazing, but I'm keeping expectations low. Fingers crossed!
Thanks man. Love your videos generally, but a Digimon one is always a treat for me. I am keeping on top of my fitness don't you worry! And I certainly do lift heavy...by which I mean my enemies Mum's 🤣 I think some people have succumbed to hype because of how many delays there's been but I'm keeping my expectations low. That way if it's even decent I'll be happy. Live a Live just came out (fucking excellent game by the way, buy it and review it please haha) and there's no way I'll finish that before Friday, so if survive sucks arse then Live a Live will be going straight back in the switch.
It felt so great when I finished the game way back when. It was a real adventure and I slowly enjoyed the hardship it put me through. Awesome experience for a digimon game
They need to remake this game and just expand it. And by that i mean the roster and inclusion of Data Continent/ part of it the others can be dlc. No Humans other than the protagonist and the town/city still builds itself with each recruit. I hated cyberslueth it had too much people in a digimon game.
@@Thomastm33 never played next order but seen playthroughs and it looks ok but I hate that the city is already built. Cyber sleuth was just a drag to get into it never hooked me. The detective style story seemed super boring I read online that by chapter 10 it picked up but couldn't force myself to play it that long.
@@nexviro8987 Yeah the city being built kinda sucks. But it does upgrade in stages and changes a lot, DW1 style of rebuilding was better i admit though. Yeah Cyber Sleuth has to many side stories and plots. Takes very long to get to the interesting part. But once you do it is good. But can't recommend the long boring parts for anyone to buy the game.
To be honest: this is still the best Digimon Game out there. Cybersleuth was awesome, but this game has a less linear feeling and every area looked different. I had to play the EU Version, which had a major Bug that made Ogremon's Base. So many Digimon were not recruitable what made raising your prosperity even harder by geting more complicated or Digimon to join the city. I still play this game every 2-3 years or so. (The US Version....) and it never gets old.
It sucks that it's the best, but I don't think we're ever gonna get the inherent weirdness of a PS1 game again. Since a lot of the appeal is vibe-based, and modern games are so clean and spiffy, it's gonna take a lot of work to capture that charm. I don't think whoever is on Digimon right now has the chops unfortunately.
I actually really love the babysitting part of digimon world. Tho this one is very nostalgic, I played an unhealthy amount of the PSP digimon world babysitting almost every digimon. The game being portable makes it worst, i just can't stop playing even on the bed.
9:24 Yes, Sukamon is awesome! 9:28 Own your mistake! This game made me unable to love Pokemon. Fans of that series repeatedly saying that "your pokemon is yours" but I can't have a Machoke with high intellect or a buff Alakazam. Not only that, it's also borderline useless to have those kinds of Pokemon (ones that deviated to the intended way of using it) while in this game I can have a brainlet Meramon or a heavy-hitter Coelamon. I love evolving my Digimon blindly too so that I can see how the game reacts to the way I raise my Digimon. THIS is a pet raising game, to the point that it's annoying to most people which actually reflects on how hard it is to raise a pet correctly. This really needs a remaster with better translations and bugfixes (The dreaded Jukebox, anyone?)
I love and will love this game forever. The only thing against it is that once you build up the city it gets redundant. It desperetly needed/need an aftergame like going to the Folder Continent or something like that. Edit: just a thing many players don't seem to know but at Amida Forest (Centaurmon's section) you have to turn at every crossroad while going forward to avoid getting shot.
this game is so great despite their many attempts to remake the formula fails. talking bout re digitize and next order. i hope someday they remake this exact formula and expand on it.
Thank you for explaining it in such a way that now I know why this game was very special to me when I was a kid: the adventure feeling. The world setting, the music, it makes my kid-self felt anxious yet very very excited about what lies ahead. Whoever designed the world did a really great job. The immersion is really there. Also I still remember my amazement everytime the zones changed. The background, the landscape, the ambience sound...it really feels like an adventure. I can't remember how many games that makes me feel like this.
It always frustrated me that the digimon had such short lifespans. It felt so tedious raising them over and over. I enjoyed DW3 more even though getting the higher-tier digivolutions were also tedious, at least your progress was permanent
To be fair, there is some permanent progress. The stronger your Digimon becomes before it dies, the stronger they'll be when they're reborn, meaning as you continue to raise them and they continue to rebirth, they continually get stronger with every life, assuming you train them properly. Plus, all techniques you learn are kept upon rebirth, barring you die from losing three battles, which causes you to lose a few learned techniques after rebirth.
For me personally, it never really bothered me that your Digimon would eventually die and you'd have to start over from scratch again, as I eventually just came to accept that it would happen sooner or later. It also made me feel like I was getting a chance to learn more techniques I couldn't before by prioritizing a different Digimon after it was reborn, which in turn paid off later as it made getting Monzaemon, Etemon and Digitamamon easier later on since they all need 49 or more techniques to be learned as a bonus condition. And truthfully, I eventually did raise a Monzaemon and got him to live for over 20 days (I think he lived to something like 23 days before dying), and I got bored with having him after a while
@@jironamos7650 did you seriously just imply that the only thing that differentiates digimon and pokemon is that digimon can revive? You either don't know much about digimon or don't know much about pokemon. I guess both is also a possibility. LOL
@@CephasTheWanderer Not really, what I implied is that turning Digimon into generic rpg gotta catch em all number 1000 isn't good for the franchise identity, people always complain about Digimon being an underdog and at the same time shit on what makes Digimon original, that is, its massive dark lore, the divergent evolutions, overall maturity, and the fact that "HOw DArE YoU MAKe TOMAGACHI?"
I remember the animation when they fade away. I was almost crying "no, don't, please, not yet....I... will miss you!!!" the screams while degrading were also hitting soft spots there
Love this game, but lowkey hate playing it tbh. I like raising a digimon, but don't like battling the clock every day. It's exploration-based, but you're penalized for taking too long to explore. If you don't use a guide, you can easily just be lost through a digimon's lifespan. And once you figure out how to make deep progress in the game, you may already be bored of the cycle of raising digimon. If you do use a guide, the game almost becomes too easy because figuring things out and exploration is a core part. Before the internet, I never beat it. I mostly got Numemon. Got a couple Tyrannomon, Meramon, and Vademon. For completion's sake, I had to come back as an adult and dominate with a Skullgreymon.
I've been away for awhile, your scripts and production has come a long way, you should definitely be proud. I can tell you've put a lot of time into this one.
Noooooooooooo that's not true at all. I briefly addressed this in the video itself, but people doom a bit too hard about how chaotic it is, it's really not that bad.
The OG feels like me trying to please someone, or to speak of Digimon World as though it's not amazing despite its flaws. This one was definitely from the heart. The original is unlisted, but it's still in the playlist for people who can tolerate it. I appreciate the comment!
Why OG DIgimon World always fell short of greatness is a few gripes, such as: -The PAL version simply being unable to be completed to 100% by a gamebreaking bug that makes it so you can basically flatout not recruit certain digimon, specifically Ogremon after beating it the first time in the Canyon - Missing "appointments" with digimons such as Garurumon makes you unable to recruit them permanently. Wah wahh. - Where´s Weregarurumon?!? And Garudamon?? - Grinding for good moves being random and stupid, with no means to raise the chance since its just RANDOM. - Not giving the player flatout requirements for the new digivolutions, which could have been circumvented by simply giving you a ´mon that sells you the stats for digivolution needed for any certain digimon. - A completely mind-boggling power scaling. -Why does a random rookie Gabumon in the north of the misty forest have 2500 HP that can kick most Champion level digimons asses?!? Because the already padded game needed more padding. - Why do ultimate level digimon only live like 6 days so you can basically not explore anything?!? Fuck that. You mean I spent like 2 hours raising that thing just to get fucked over? - Fuck the shoddy german translation. - They wanted to include Vademon and Piximon as possible Digivolution, but not the ultimates of the main cast?!? - The Seadramon Sidequest. Why would you EVER think of doing that?!? - The Monochromon Sidequest. Shop Simulator, bleh.
It's new for me that you can miss Garurumon The game was made before Digimon Adventure Anime. In my opinion, Digimon is the best when not following the Anime
I actually didn't know you could miss Garurumon either, maybe it's region-specific, or I've lucked out each time. I will say, I don't think the chance-based tech learning rate is necessarily a bad thing unless you're a speed-runner. It gives battles a reason to exist outside of Digivolution requirements and Bit acquisition. I've also never liked min/maxing RPGs, so having a 16% (i think) chance to learn any given move used against you is pretty generous overall. Maybe the rate could be a bit higher, but i wouldn't want to guarantee a rushed playthrough of such an expansive game. I also like that you're not explicitly told what stats are required for what Digimon. The game naturally gives you monsters based on your input, and that input isn't externally influenced (or at least isn't intended to be influenced) by a pre-defined metric, or desire. I've done some delving on that Ogremon glitch, and apparently you can glitch yourself into Ogremon's fortress if you open and close the lid on your PS1 at a specific point. It still shouldn't happen, and should function as intended, but that's a neat find either way. I don't think the power scaling is too bad, generally a decent Champion or any Ultimate will wreck shop. The final stage needs a beefy Ultimate for sure, but it's all still pretty doable. Like I said though, the grind can be a huge brickwall for a lot of people though, and I totally get that. All that said, a lot of these criticisms ring true for sure. The game ain't perfect, it's far from, but despite it all, it's an incredible experience you still can't get anywhere else.
The anime main cast is not in the game because the game was released some months before the original anime And to he honest, the game is using the digimons from the virtual pets version 1 through 4, and the pendulums digimon from nature spirits (thats why there is a tentomon island with hercules kabuterimon) Also weregarurmon is in the game, they never finished him, and is just a pair of legs that crashes the game
@@Caspicum I agree, and you raise good points. It is still a fun game, albeit a guide game, and riddled with nostalgia and good summer memories. However, it seems rather counterintuitive that certain digivolutions REQUIRE you to make mistakes, that goes against all good judgement UNLESS you are specifically reading a guide that tells you to, idk it just rubbed me the wrong way. And I´ll retract my statement about the whole move aquisition, if its a flat 16% then I just got stupidly unlucky. I also attempted to do the weird glitch to get into ogremons fortress but I could never get it to work right, idk glitches dont like me.
Excited to hear your thoughts on Digimon Survive whenever you're ready to put a video about it out. Love your content, Caspy! Glad you revisited the Digimon World video. One of the most misunderstood games of the PSX era.
TH-cam has auto-fill comments which is the worst shit ever and one of them was "Tomorrow!" I wish I could get videos out that fast. The Survive video is happening, I've just got a bit of a backlog in the short-term of Arc the Lad and other weird crap I decided to put myself through... Digimon World is definitely misunderstood, even I'm still finding things out about it years later which is crazy.
When i was a kid i had the luck that my agumon became meramon. After that, i started to see that even if this game is harsh, it still gives you a great pleasure of showing you the results of your dedication.
The designs of the early digital worlds in both the anime and the games were a reflection of the chaotic nature of the early internet. Most sites looked like dumpster fires and everyone was trying to find their own niche in the digital wild west which fits the ramshackle design of all the buildings and environments in this game perfectly.
digimon world. countless hours playing it. Countless hours trying to fix the disc when half of the game map got corrupted. countless hours accepting I'd never make it past the early game and just living my days out in the village.
I would disagree on the old video being bad. Quite a few games I've found that are better on subsequent playthroughs while the first blind one is an exercise in frustration or straight up a good ol' miserable time. This one seems like one of them from the myriad of videos I've seen on it. When the player already knows is an entertaining test of execution. When not, a blind fumbling that loses it's appeal rather quickly. The minimum amount of knowledge to have fun in this game past the initial appeal for this game is rather high, rather tedious to try and gather, all the while playing tamagochi on the side is what I think makes people frustrated with the game and leads to the old video. This one being way past that minimum. With a hell of a lot more knowledge of course the game's goona look different! So yeah, I like both videos! Great job as always!
i had this huge reply typed up and youtube refreshed my page and now it's gone :( i'm a little bit mad ngl I appreciate the copium for my old video, but it was bad. I agree about first, blind experiences being valuable to document, and they can definitely be more interesting than cracking the game open, but my knowledge at the time wasn't too far removed from now, I just had worse delivery, writing, editing, and pretty much everything. The fact that I'd been playing it since it came out and made *that* video is more my issue. Had that been a first-look, I wouldn't hate it as much, but I'd still not be a fan... Mostly because of the scripting and voice work. I have this mantra now where I want to minimize the time I spend reciting oft-repeated information, or blathering on about side shit, unless it's absolutely necessary. The fact that any random person on the internet has given me 10 minutes of their day is a gift that I'm so thankful for, I couldn't put it into words. So I use that to motivate me to not waste their time to the best of my ability, and I think a lot of the OG script was long enough that it could've said something interesting, but it didn't. It wasted a lot of time, which irks my current day mindset of optimizing information delivery so to speak. I'm still not perfect at it, but I'm infinitely better than I was in 2014. I don't think you need a lot of info to have fun necessarily, but if resource management and stumbling through the unknown against fairly harsh conditions is something that troubles you (and I get it, there are some games that stress me out to no end), you will struggle to enjoy it on the same level as someone who lives for that, or is familiar with it. As I said, even with the translation issues, it's still pretty good at sending you in the right direction if you're willing to make mistakes, but there's a mid-game wall you can hit if you're not the 'adventurous type' so to speak. I appreciate the comment! The ones that make me think about things are always great, and I wish I had more time to respond to everything in depth!
Oh, for sure you've improved a ton! Your scrips and delivery are so snappy that when you make me laugh I have to rewind the video because another point has already been made. But I would insist that you started good, most I'll concede is not bad, and became great! And the biggest feeling that ruins this kind of game for me is wanting to make every life worth it. Get the most out of it. Exploring is rather fun but training gets dull quickly, and starts making me push harder and optimise everything and keep focused and... hmmmmmm... maybe I should go code something with this level of investment instead xD. It's a bad habit on my part to think this way but knowledge checks bring it up the most. And your videos always leave me thinking and with the feeling I've learnt something. Great job as always!
Thanks for revisiting the game. This game is such a unique experience, imo this is The original Digimon game. I’m very happy to see more people are talking about this
When I first found your video on Digimon World 1 I had a tiny inkling to play it again. After watching this I need to play it once my schedule allows for it.
I remember being addicted to this game and it’s big world where unique things happen. It lacked polish and quality of life but a remake that fixes and have gameplay similar to Pokémon Arceus would be awesome.
Wow, I was looking into the new Digimon game released today, and it somehow brought me here for this nostalgia trip! DW 1 is a true CLASSIC, and will always have a special place in my heart. I was 8-10 yo at the time, I didn't understand english at all, and, SOMEHOW, I actually managed to uncover almost all of its secrets. I guess just by trial and error and lots and lots of playtime (for example, it took me REALLY LONG to figure out the digimon were supposed to poop in a toilet. It just happened by accident one day, as I was casually strolling around lol). Gathering the digimon and watching File City grow conveyed somekind of warm feeling and sense of accomplishment. But the game also offered much more (in terms of secondary objectives) for completionists. Ex: the coliseum fights, getting all digivolutions, collecting every Digimon card, mastering every technique, collecting every player medal,... boy it was a treat! Not to mention the OST, which is a masterpiece by itself! Does anyone remember Misty Trees (DAY) track? So soothing and relaxing. Just writting this comment had me thinking about paying it a visit again lol
Well I'm glad you arrived, because I'm gonna tell you to play Digimon World a visit again and have a great time. Treat yourself, baby. Also the fact that you brute forced it with a huge language barrier is not only incredibly impressive, but shows that the game really shines in visual and other sorts of conveyance and that text is often over-relied on. That said, most native English speakers also couldn't tell what the text meant, so we were all in a similar boat.
@@Caspicum Yes! Thanks for the response and great video btw, forgot to mention it! The fact that even native speakers couldn't understand it properly is kinda hilarious tbh haha. Also, one of the main problems with DW1 for me is that many regions become pointless after beating the Digimon there (Toy Mansion, Ancient Dino Region, Overdell Cemetery comes to mind). They could have added at least a secret/rare item or something to incentive revisiting these areas
I desperately want a digimon game like this again. Like you said though this is lightning in a bottle. I don't even think a modern version would capture the same aesthetic and vibe this game gives. But man do I want them to try.
i remember playing this game without a memory card so i could never adapt too far. Trying to sneakily leave my playstation on over several nights without my mom knowing so i could advance more, truly wonderful times.
I loved this game with a passion. It gave you a real virtual pet that you trained feed and explored with, and based on your care depends what it digivoles into. I had the Tamagotchi and when I got this game it was like living out my fantasy with my digital partner. If you had digimon virtual pet you actually knew how to properly train them in the game. Incase anyone is still wondering how to get rid of tiredness you need to let your digimon rest after 3-5 training cycles or 20 fights. you can rest them in Jijimons house by talking to the in-training digimon on the couch or by taking them to the clinic when you are far enough in the game. If you do this it will make training easier and faster.
This is my favorite game. I always wanted more digimon games like it, we did get re digitize and last order but both of them just didn't recapture the magic of the original. Those games were just too easy, they held your hand, told you where to go, combat never really posed a challenge. I want the same level of mystery as the original, no clearly listed objectives or directions. Just be released into the world to explore and figure everything out yourself. Also you can nap exhaustion from training away using poiyomon and then later with centaurumon.
Digimon World is a game, but it's even more of an experience. I'll never forget when I spent 3 hours following an online guide to get Greymon and ended up with a fuckin Monochomon, or when I fell asleep to the chill vibes of the nighttime music during one of the 5 minute loading screens.
you ever play a game early enough in your life that it gets lodged in your soul? this is one of those games for me.
I think it was one of my first PS1 games, so that's pretty much it hey.
@@Caspicum I still got my original copy for it I had shortly after release *granted its a copy and my ps1 is chipped lol
@@spyrojoe4721 same. Still got the original game after all these years.
Not very often
FF3(6) and Wild Arms are this for me.
It absolutely baffles me how we have such old unpolished gems like this that have never been capitalised on. Cyber Sleuth wasn't bad and Survive seems like a very different type of game, but a new version of this game with improved QoL would surely be a goldmine.
yeah I agree. The closest we have is the ps4 game digimon world next order
@@V-Jes And one of them didn't even release overseas
@@davidtowers1863 tho that did get fantranslations for both PSP and 3DS versions so it's not like it's unplayable for westerners.
Still the best digimon game ever created in my opinion. I know this isn't nostalgia talking because I've been playing it on emulator recently.
Yeah, would be cool to see a game that can manage both the digital pet simulator and the RPG aspects, maybe even some dungeons to crawl through. Is there any game in the series that comes close to that? I only really watched the animes, mostly Frontier, and I was curious to see which games to try and how.
exactly, the environment made this one so memorable
DW1 felt mysterious. Next Order didn't and I didn't like that they created a cut-scene for ults instead of a full on animation for them like DW1 :/.
Yeah that was my problem with next order, redigitized had some good areas but next order just felt ugly and boring for me.
i remember when i was a kid. i would look up to guides online and print every page possible from start to the end of the game. The printer worked hard printing over 50-100 pages. and then i get a good smack from my dad for wasting his ink & paper. Good times...
It was hardly a waste of ink!
Same lol, I would lie and say it was for school. Also we kinda had to since it took an hour to get online and load the walkthrough in the first place so might as well print it to not to that again haha
Same man, same, I did it so I didn't have to open my PC again when I played with my PlayStation
Facts
Yeah
The pokemon now.. recovered every battle.

There's nothing like Digimon World. It adapts the Virtual Pets and I'd argue the Digimon life cycle makes it unique compared to other JRPG's. While there's grinding, nothing is stopping you from making an Ultimate provided you know what you're doing and know how to manage your time. And you have two paths around File Island (with some side areas) to explore before they intersect at the end.
and there is poop need to be taken care of hahahha
It's really kinda neat to have gotten to watch/be a part of that transition.
really only learned how to experiment with things after emulation became possible and save states. Then I learned reverse engineering...

I still find it very disappointing how this was the best Digimon game ever made. Every other one just moves further and further from what it was about and becomes more of an awkward Pokemon spin imo.
I’m glad you decided to give it another go. The previous review was very negative in the “haha old game is bad I am TH-cam man”way
I'm a pretty negative guy, but I try my best to avoid the "negative youtube man" thing. People have shit standards and the overwhelming attempt to be positive is why everything sucks now, because nobody holds anything to a reasonable level. That said, Digimon World is still great, despite the flaws.
I'll never forget accidentally Digivolving when sleeping in Kunemom's bed
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i'm so sorry
Early Digimon designs were cool
The Goat came back, is good to see you revisiting this great title, it's definitely rough around the edges but overall gives a great experience , I still prefer de World 3 for nostalgia reasons, but this gameplay style is definitely the most unique for digimon, cant wait for the World 2 re-review.
Digimon world 2 isn’t worth the time for a review
I love that you used footage from games like Dark Cloud & Legend of Dragoon on a digimon world game
This is really hitting me in the childhood
I try to cater to people with god-tier taste.
I got pretty giddy when I saw the dark cloud footage too. That game is up on my top 5 games of all time. It didn’t get enough love for how great it is.
And if you played the PAL version, a few areas are completely locked due to errors done in the translation that messed with certain triggers & flags
Its hard to complete the game when a bunch of recruitable digimons & areas are impossible tor each, but it can be done :"D
This game hold a special place in my heart. One of my all time favorites growing up
my biggest gripe with this game was how cryptic the whole process of digivolutions was. without using a guide its basically impossible to get a lot of different ones with the requirements being so specific and the lack of information provided by the game. that is also the one thing i think you could and should've touched on more in this review, otherwise great video.
Digimon World
Took me to a whole other world when i was little.
@TheLarkaanimation I haven't played that game so I can't really comment on that one ;p
Monochromon…. Holy shit recruiting him is maddening.
Child labour too
Great video!
You can go to Jijimon's house to rest in the chair if Digimon is tired.
Great video, makes me dream of a proper sequel some day
This game is a master piece, a lot of my childhood memories was about playing this game with my friends and seeing which one of us could get the best Digimon to battle in the tournament with our saves in the memory cards.
Awesome to see that we're getting a re-run on the classic DWs
There's just something about this game man, every so often I feel the need to subject myself to the gym grind, the unforgiving lategame areas and the fucking RNG once again just to see that ps1 magic, few other games have a world (heh) that feels so nice to experience.
It's like a healthy addiction, and every so often you've gotta scratch the itch.
Re:Digitize decode is an actual canonical sequel to this one, and its the improvement over it, whoever I cannot lie, World 1 is visually unique, while Decode is just gameplay perfection.
lack quality of life are the reason this game good and challenging too many convenient ruin the mood of this game like they did in redigitize
Man, this just made me want to see a port of Next Order...if not another World game that's also on the PC.
YEAH! Why isn't Next Order on PC?
Getting too fatigued via training or battle is actually not a care mistake, but it does lower your Digimon's lifespan by a bit each time it happens. You can talk to Punimon in Jijimon's house or Centaurumon in the clinic after recruiting him to rest for an hour, relieving fatigue and restoring a small amount of HP and MP, with resting at the clinic being more effective than resting with Punimon.
Yes, later in the game. Keeps you from just power training.
The air of mystery and how daunting going into unexplored areas was is what I remember most about this game.
Also having to spend hours training to then have 30-60 minutes with a tough Digimon to make safe exploration possible...
I feel like if this game had an Easy mode like Next Order had, were all that changes is that you get double the stat gains when training, it would be a much better game.
the mute Agumon bug in the pal version put a dent in my childhood
More like the unable to progress past agumon defending that ogremon fortness 😭
I only play American versions for videos, so it's been a hot minute since I've played the PAL one. So many people have told me about that, and it's crazy. Apparently there's a way to glitch in there which you can do on legit hardware, and it doesn't seem *too* complex, but still what a devastating bug. also i hate the font of the PAL version.
I played this game as a kid. My digimon that I'd been grinding for days to evolve up died and it was one of the most traumatic incidents of my childhood.
Leomon: 'I've been looking for this cave my entire life!'
So, two weeks right? 😂
I read this and it went completely over my head, then I re-read it and had a little chuckle to myself. This is why I love youtube comments.
this is literally the game that made me lifelong eternal friends, 22 years ago a bunch of stranger play this game in some random ps1 rental store, one of them is me, by playing this AMAZINGLY fun game we trade walkthrough with each other, then we become friend, bests of friend that last for a life time
thank you digimon world, because of you i have a fun community, so for me this game is the ultimate best game of all time, there will never be any other game that can surpassed this game
Considering this game got two remakes and i played it too much and loved the sense of exploration/adventure its definitely a classic
It has 2 remakes? When and where?
8:05
Tiredness can be cured by going to a chair in Jijimon's basic house (if you upgrade it with Monzaemon it won't be there anymore). You can also cure it by talking to Centarumon in his hospital once you recruit him (I highly recommend doing this ASAP to avoid being blocked from curing tiredness)
I thought the resting only stopped it for a little bit. Like, it doesn't reset it fully, it just gives you another one or two training sessions.
@@Caspicum The chair reduces it a bit, Centarumon reduces it a lot. IDK the exact numbers, but I remember noticing a huge difference between the two.
Have you heard of the game Digimon Re: Digitize? It's technically an "improved" version of DMW 1...
@@vancelim8840 indeed I have, and it's so unfortunate that we never got an official release here in the west. I've thought about playing it through emulation and add a translation patch, but it just doesn't feel right to do so.
@@jb0258 this is the problem... there are lots of good digimon games, but only few of them are realeased outside of Japan....
I also lost my Machamp to a fakemon sticker that was just a weedle underneath XD
I remember my bro bought this game and brought it home and I was mad at him for wasting money on garbage, but then 15 minutes in, got hooked and it turned out to be my favorite ps1 game EVER.
Great taste, patriot. Legit, Digimon World 1 is such a classic, it really does take 15 minutes to be wholly entranced.
@@Caspicum Yep, the game is super fun, played it probably 8 times (new game) since 2004, mostly on emulators though.
Hey, nothing wrong with emulators. If you're playing it, you're playing it right?
@@Caspicum Yep, what's nice about emulators is that you can speed up the game when you want to speed up the grind.
There's a magic to this game that bandai spent decades trying to recreate and failed miserably doing so.
Could not think of a better comment to go along with your profile image
very good video and I like your focus on aesthetics (not really focus but attention it deserves). but i am surprised you haven't mentioned the collection of cards! there's so many places where you can trade /w NPCs etc., it's so wierd yet rewarding, at least it was for 13yr old me, ah.
also: arena fights. but ok yeah, really a unique game and life changing for all of us who enjoyed it in our childhoods. kudos, keep it up
I remember playing this game WAY back when it came out, and I do remember that I absolutely loved it. Sadly, other than the fact that I do remember beating the main story, I can't really remember too much about it overall...other than the fact that, for some reason, I really enjoyed the curling minigame. No idea why that is.
Well, it hardly had any plot. There isn't much to remember, but it was just fun to play because of the game loop.
Digimon World's roguelike elements were way ahead of it's time. Looking at it under that lens, a lot more people could get into it.
Thanks Casp. I needed this video today. Dmw1 is the goat. I'm hoping when survive comes out on Friday it'll be good 🤣
I'm always here for ya, buddy.
And I certainly do lift heavy...by which I mean my enemies Mum's 🤣
I think some people have succumbed to hype because of how many delays there's been but I'm keeping my expectations low. That way if it's even decent I'll be happy.
Live a Live just came out (fucking excellent game by the way, buy it and review it please haha) and there's no way I'll finish that before Friday, so if survive sucks arse then Live a Live will be going straight back in the switch.
Perfect explanation of the environments my friend. I always thoughts the imagination behind them was incredible.
I hope they somehow bring this to the nintendo switch. This one and Digimon world 3
It felt so great when I finished the game way back when.
You play Digimon next order? Or is that what you mean instead of Cyberslueth?
The two actual digimon world games we have are the best digimon games
easily the best Digimon Game ever, the raise, the quest, the atmosphere, and the carisma of it, just a grat funny game and a very nostalgic one too
Digimon Survive comes out in a week (Please be good, Please be good, Please be good!!!)
Fingers crossed hey.
I believe this game is pne of the best games was ever made itsss sooo exciting
Oh yes search for Digimon world unreal engine
Its such a good Game i dont can understand why they make No series from Digimon world With the Pet gameplay
@@tyintyout They already did 2 more after this...
My favourite game of all time! I am desperately hoping they port this to switch!
this game is so great despite their many attempts to remake the formula fails. talking bout re digitize and next order. i hope someday they remake this exact formula and expand on it.
And truthfully, I eventually did raise a Monzaemon and got him to live for over 20 days (I think he lived to something like 23 days before dying), and I got bored with having him after a while
The main concept of Digimon is the cycle of life and death. Removing that just turns it into pokemon.
This game was a product of its time. It is impossible to play it without a FAQ
Noooooooooooo that's not true at all. I briefly addressed this in the video itself, but people doom a bit too hard about how chaotic it is, it's really not that bad.
Nice to see you rereview this! I still love your original video, but this one does feel more streamlined.
The OG feels like me trying to please someone, or to speak of Digimon World as though it's not amazing despite its flaws. This one was definitely from the heart. The original is unlisted, but it's still in the playlist for people who can tolerate it. I appreciate the comment!
Why OG DIgimon World always fell short of greatness is a few gripes, such as:
-The PAL version simply being unable to be completed to 100% by a gamebreaking bug that makes it so you can basically flatout not recruit certain digimon, specifically Ogremon after beating it the first time in the Canyon
- Missing "appointments" with digimons such as Garurumon makes you unable to recruit them permanently.
It's new for me that you can miss Garurumon
The game was made before Digimon Adventure Anime.
The anime main cast is not in the game because the game was released some months before the original anime
And to he honest, the game is using the digimons from the virtual pets version 1 through 4, and the pendulums digimon from nature spirits (thats why there is a tentomon island with hercules kabuterimon)
Also weregarurmon is in the game, they never finished him, and is just a pair of legs that crashes the game
Most sites looked like dumpster fires and everyone was trying to find their own niche in the digital wild west which fits the ramshackle design of all the buildings and environments in this game perfectly.
god i miss the old internet
The details in the settings are so charming, the flickering of lit signs at night or the vending machines just give the game a nice touch
Looking forward to the updated videos and of course the inevitable Survive video
bro survive better be good, waiting for it has been a rollercoaster and i don't think i can take another hit
digimon world. countless hours playing it. Countless hours trying to fix the disc when half of the game map got corrupted. countless hours accepting I'd never make it past the early game and just living my days out in the village.
A main protag so BASED. He comes back in Next order LIKE A BOSS
Great job as always!
i had this huge reply typed up and youtube refreshed my page and now it's gone :( i'm a little bit mad ngl
I appreciate the copium for my old video, but it was bad.
I’m very happy to see more people are talking about this
I do it for the people. The people who need more Digimon World.
When I first found your video on Digimon World 1 I had a tiny inkling to play it again. After watching this I need to play it once my schedule allows for it.
Trying to replay this as an adult makes me realize how little free time I have now compared to being a kid. 😢
bro it sucks, but you gotta make time for those things you love, even if it takes forever!
I remember being addicted to this game and it’s big world where unique things happen. It lacked polish and quality of life but a remake that fixes and have gameplay similar to Pokémon Arceus would be awesome.
The music has stuck with me for 20 years as well. Its very defining music and sound effects.
God I fucking love seeing videos cover this game
This just unlocked a bunch of amazing memories. Thank you!!
on occasion as a tradition with my brother and I, we play through a game of this while hanging out together, because of how much we like this game :D
I desperately want a digimon game like this again. Like you said though this is lightning in a bottle. I don't even think a modern version would capture the same aesthetic and vibe this game gives. But man do I want them to try.
Not even next order did it for you?
i remember playing this game without a memory card so i could never adapt too far.
Also you can nap exhaustion from training away using poiyomon and then later with centaurumon.
this game could bring a tear to a glass eye.. i love it, good review btw
Digimon World is a game, but it's even more of an experience. I'll never forget when I spent 3 hours following an online guide to get Greymon and ended up with a fuckin Monochomon, or when I fell asleep to the chill vibes of the nighttime music during one of the 5 minute loading screens.
those sneaky monochromons are everywhere
