- In this video I'll show you how to install Windows 10 on a compatible Chromebook. I will NOT tell you if YOUR Chromebook is compatible. I show how to find out IN THE VIDEO. I also tell how to find out in the blog post linked below. If doing just THAT is too much for you to handle, then this tutorial isn't for you. If you ask if your Chromebook is compatible, I will most likely delete your comment. It's THAT simple.
Because of Windows requirements having changed since this video was made, you'll need AT LEAST 32GB OF HARD DRIVE SPACE. Adding a USB drive or an SD card will not work. It has to be AT LEAST 32GB OF HARD DRIVE SPACE. I don't know how else to say it: YOUR HARD DRIVE NEEDS TO BE AT LEAST 32GB.
In late 2018 I made a video about how to install Windows 10 on a Chromebook. The video was popular, but it missed several things and caused a fair amount of confusion. I made follow up videos that ended up leading people on a wild goose chase. I want to apologize for that so I created this new tutorial. It is more in-depth and, hopefully, easier to follow along with. The new video shows, again, hopefully, all of the steps to make this process as easy as possible.

After I click custom installation, and it asks “where do you want to install Windows?” It says “no signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok.”

When I’m ready to download the files on cool star what do I NEED to download? All the files or just the ones you show in the video?
That's why I made the video. You need to follow the instructions in the video just like I showed.
Chrome OS cannot open .exe and run other programm files. You can also say that Chrome OS is a great OS for a mobile device. But Chrome has a built-in setting that if you want, you can turn it into Linux which can run programms
Dbtech I found a way to make a usb drive on android if your chrome book was made after 2017 install windows 10 iso install iso 2 usb plug in the Ian select the drive and the app will make it bootable

Amazing explanation indeed. I wonder if I can change my windows 64 bit for 32 bit now... This computer has just 15 Gb and it says they are almost full ... Or do you have any other idea for me to have more space with this laptop?
The 32bit won't work. Also, the Windows requirements have changed from 16GB of hard drive space to 32GB of hard drive space. There's not really much you can do other than possibly replace your hard drive if that's an option on your Chromebook

No. Sadly, you need another laptop because you can’t run exe files on chromebook. You can try to google a way to run an exe file on chromebook, but I doubt it would work

Any idea why my cpu wont go over 50% utilization and stays at base clock speed of .9ghz?
I've messed with the power options profile and nothing works.
It stays at .9ghz no matter the load.
2:19 there is also a app on google play called Cpu Z by CUPID that will also tell you the cpu model

how do you know how many gigs you have?
Everything has gone great so far but it's still saying "Fw WP: Enabled" even after I removed the write protect screw. I don't know whats wrong with it
Depending on the chromebook the screw may be different, try opening it back up and checking the wp screw slot for any gunk or residue in it, in which case, clean it with rubbing alcohol on a q tip once the battery is unplugged.

I am trying to install windows 10 on my Asus Chromebook. There wasn't a write protect screw , but I was able to disable the write protect by disabling the battery. After downloading the shell script , the only options I have to click is #2 and #3 with no option to click on #1, any advice that you can give on this?

Dude i did all of this and when i put my usb flash in the chromebook and try to boot it from usb it doesnt work it just take's be back to the boot option menu idk why but it worked before but windows didnt want to boot because it dont have enough disk space (so how do i fix it)
He did tell you that you need minimum of like 8 gigs, you probs didnt meet minimum
I had problems but ended fixing all of them from removing the write-protect screw to changing the script and using mr.chromebox's and finally having to remake the bootable USB because it wasn't working. BUT IT WORKED!! I don't recommend it to kids without permission from their parents tho.

hello again, well uh I had the issue with the line of yellow text where you fixed it in step 5A although after I rebooted and mashed escape it brought me to the same page as you but I do not have all options that you have I only had "Default boot" "Boot menu" and "boot manager" I didn't have boot maintenance manger or the language or continue..? Do you have any recommended fixes for this problem ? I was also using the same chromebook you were the Acer-C720 So i'm guessing thats not the issue? Possibly the installation of windows onto the usb stick? Sorry this is so long but also, when I am on the page that shows all the files that say "sata" none say usb? At this time I did have the usb connected. Very final statement, In the crosh terminal the line of code with the coolstar website in it didn't work and I saw recommended use of mrchromebox website instead of coolstar and I'm curious if that may be a factor aswell?

@Christhe9th WHAT is fake? Installing Windows on a Chromebook? Nope. It's not fake. There are a select number of Chromebooks this works on. As long as your Chromebook has the right processor in it. Has to be certain Intel processors. ARM processors won't work.
No you don't. You can make a bootable Windows USB on a Chromebook.

Hey. Stuff went wrong and I tried to use the backup. It doesn’t recognize it in the boot menu. It’s a microSD. I plug it in and it just doesn’t appear in the boot options. Any ideas on what to do?

Nope. The Chromebook I used in this (and ALL of my Chromebook videos) is a VERY much supported 720P. Is yours maybe locked out because it belongs to a school or business?

I made a video about dual booting, but because of the way ChromeOS installs, I'm not sure you can dual boot ChromeOS with anything as it likes to take up an entire hard drive.
Hey! I tried doing it for an hour and all it does is gives me the blue screen of death. It says it will reboot. Then, I clicked the escape key and tried both of your ways to recover chrome os from the USB drive (I did back up the system on the usb drive before restarting the computer for windows) but it keeps going back to the starting screen as shown at 23:20. Help would be great 👍

it doesnot showing the SSD drive nor going into to developer options with ESC+Refresh+power on
i had pluged in the windows 10 USB it boots and run smooth but on partition page it show ZERO drives only empty page
I'm guessing mine wont work since mines a Mediatek MT8381 processor and not a AMD or Intel processor so I am guessing mine wont work but this is a very good tutorial and you are very slow and will let people finish their stuff before you go ahead and that's a very good attitude. so I tried installing win 10 on my Lenovo N20 and went through all the procedures fine (Including the bootable USB creation and removal of the protection screw) but for some reason after installing everything Im stuck on a black screen during boot.. i can only see the light on the screen but nothing comes.. I tried booting from a ubuntu bootable flash drive to reinstall chrome OS but to no avail... is my device bricked?.. and if it is.. is there a way back?.. I need your help

Then you're not in developer mode.

In the video and, I believe, in the blog post, it very clearly states that only SOME Intel processors are compatible. If you don't have a supported Intel processor, there is nothing you can do.

Ok...I have done everything from this video...and I finally changed the chrome OS to Windows OS...thank you very much. However, some days later I tried to boot it but it went UEFI interface and when I tried going to boot manager, the boot manager menu does not appear...what do I do?

I have an Inspiron Chromebook 14 (120GB), the processor is InterCore i3-8130U (8th gen). It’s not listed on CoolStar, but there’s similar processors like InterCore i3-4005U and i3-5005U. Could I be still able to choose either one?

You can install a 2.5 HDD, you'll just have to go tochrom support and make a chrome os boot drive, it's what I did and it worked
