Here's how to install Windows 10 on a Chromebook in 2018! Installing Windows 10 on a Chromebook is actually pretty easy and only take a few minutes to prepare for.
In order to do this, you'll need a USB stick with Windows on it.
Be sure to check this website to see if YOUR Chromebook is compatible. If it is, just follow these steps and you're ready to install Windows 10 on your Chromebook!
- Turn off your device, open the back and remove the Write Protect Screw. (THIS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOUR CHROMEBOOK)
- Press Esc + Refresh + Power
- Press Ctrl + D and press Enter to enable developer mode
- Press Ctrl + D to boot Chrome OS
- Open a tab and press Ctrl + Alt + T
- Type in "shell" and press Enter.
- Paste the following into the shell and press enter
cd ~; curl -L -O coolstar.org/c... && sudo bash setup-firmware.sh
If you get stuck on screen with a rabbit and some yellow text, this is the fix for it: • HELP!! Windows 10 Wont...
Others have reported trying a different USB port has worked for them as well.
If your mouse, keyboard, etc. doesn't work, plug in an external mouse and keyboard to download the appropriate drivers from the coolstar.org website. DMing me about it isn't going to get you anywhere.

I don’t see the point of chromebooks. They are just underpowered laptops running a limited restricted ~version of android~ selection of web apps.
One word: cheap. I bought mine for around the equivalent of 20 USD.
A lot of schools including mine use them because school work programs work fine on them and schools can buy a large amount of them because they are cheap. But still I would not buy one for normal home use because a desktop pc would be better.
Cheap and easy to manage. Not everyone is technical and let's face it Windows needs done technical abilities. ChromeOS is very simple and when most people only use a web browser this a good thing.

If you’re gonna be doing this on a chrome book with 2GB RAM and 16 GB Storage space like me, I recommend you do the following for space and memory
1. Compress the drive by right clicking on local disk C and compress files and sub folders
2 after that is done, open CMD as administrator and type: Compact.exe /CompactOS:always
This will further compress the drive.
3 install all available updates after this
4. Go to %temp% and delete all files it lets you delete
After that go to c:\windows\software distribution\download and delete everything in there (this is temporary update files that you no longer need)
5. Right click local disk c, click disk cleanup, click clean up system files (this usually takes a while), tick everything there and press ok (this takes longer)
These are a few tips I have learned myself after using a chrome book with 2GB memory and 16GB drive space and using it for a whole year in school (I brought my own device)

If there's a screw involved it will already be there. Use google to see if yours has one. Also read the description of this video for all the info you should need

There is this guy on a TH-cam channel whose video is 25:15 long that helped me brick my Acer C740 in an instant (name is not worth mentioning). Anyways, after watching your video all the way through and went to your website for the full guide and replaced my motherboard, I succeeded.
I had to use the new method (the commands from your video didn’t work for me and thanks for the option), but option 3 which you mentioned did not look proper and so option 2 fits the next step well. Did my backup of course. Soon after, I saw the bunny.

In my country Chromebooks are cheap for their value, you get a slick design i5 processor, and other great hardware for the same price of a bulky i5 laptop, so this video is worth watching 😅
In future you may be able to set your Camera's Fps to match the Hz of the Chrome os Monitor to reduce or stop the flickering :)
In the future maybe you can read the cards in the video and the description to notice that I've replaced this video with a newer version

I just removed the BIOS screw and the chromebook died. No lights are lighting and it isn't turning on. Does someone have a clue what has happened?
The only thing I can think is that you removed the wrong screw. Did you put the back of the Chromebook back on? Mine won't turn on if the back isn't in place.

If you replace the SSD in your device, you should only have to install Windows on it. You shouldn't have to go through this whole process again as the ROM that you modified is stored on a chip on the motherboard.

Hey you have 2 different USB drives in the video one for storing the ROM and another with the windows 10 on it can I use only one usb for this? Or will It just put the ROM back in the chrombook?
You can create a Windows bootable USB and also use the same USB to backup your ROM, but I just have a USB dedicated to ROMs for my Chromebook.

There's an entirely different process to restoring ChromeOS on a Chromebook after you've gone through this process but I made a video about that too

You downloaded the right thing. Just run that and put your USB stick in and create the bootable USB.

That's kind of a stupid question. People get given Chromebooks by their organisation. People get given Chromebooks by friends. People can easily buy Chromebooks everywhere. The same can't be said of a 'FreeDOS Ultrabook', exemplified by the fact that I have never heard of one of those before.

Just a reminder: to install windows OS on another computer that is not a chromebook, you can download a usb boot file from Microsoft, not this sketchy Rufus talk I’m hearing about. Although it may be a software downloader, I am affirmative that it is not official Microsoft software. This is entirely my opinion, but I think downloading from the Microsoft forums would be better.
You get the "Dumbest Comment of the Day" Award. Rufus is just a program to copy a .iso file to a USB stick. It's not a download software of any kind. How about you do some research about the topic before you try engaging your brain and fingers and saying some really dumb stuff? It'll make you look WAY less dumb.

I had just backed up Chrome OS onto a flashdrive successfully. The Chromebook then begins to download Full ROM firmware but instead of getting the green letters, I got a message saying "Firmware download checksum fail; download corrupted, cannot flash" in Red letters with an option underneath saying Press [Enter] to return to the main menu.
What did I do wrong?
the message is pretty self-explanatory, the file failed to download properly. I'd just retry it.

I cant seem to get past the last step. my C720 is stuck on that last part with all the yellow and white text. it gives that 5 second countdown but does not do anything else after. I press the power button like you do but when mine turns on that bunny rabbit looking logo comes on then instantly goes to that screen with yellow and white text.

It means that the download failed at some point and it can't flash the file. You need to try again. Also, take a look at this newer video I made about the same process: th-cam.com/video/kXnU_S5ZNJQ/w-d-xo.html There's a different script you might try in the blog post linked in that video.
there is no option for HP chromebook 13 G1? CPU M5 option is blank out, can't select when navigate into coolstar website

Every Chromebook is going to be different. You'll probably have to use Google to find your Chromebook's write-protect screw

So you probably have a bunch of smaller partitions and Windows is telling you that none of them can be installed on? If that's the case, then you just need to delete each of the partitions so that you end up with one LARGE partition (probably about 16GB) and then you can install on there. then your Chromebook might have a write-protect screw that you'll have to remove.

Im trying this with a samsung chromebook 3, with the intel processor and I keep getting "hardware right-protection enabled", cannot flash Full ROM firmware. I just buyed used Lenovo N23 from market place for my son, but developer mode is disabled on this device, and I cannot use this device because its needed administrator permisions. Can I do something without administrator? Its running on mediatek procesor, so cannot instal win 10. Maybe is another way?
If the previous owner locked it, there's nothing you can do other than ask them to unlock it. Also, there's nothing you can do with a mediatek processor.

If your chromebook isn't listed on the coolstar.org website then it's not compatible and you shouldn't try this

When you put the usb into the chromebook with all the words on the screen and turned it off and back on it was checking on your but mine it did nothing

With the whole EOL thing with chromebooks it would be good if this worked with cloudready os. That way you can at least continue to get some updates. Does it work with cloudready though?
You could install CloudReady using this method as long as your chromebook is compatible with this method

I prefer laptops and chromebooks over tablets for almost everything, but I don't know your usage habits
Reading mostly, and watching movies when not home. I use headphones for audio so speaker quality isn't an issue. I'd keep on with my xoom but the power connector is proprietary and hasn't been made in years.
For that use case, I would suggest getting a tablet

I have a Dell Chromebook 5190 with an Intel N3350 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 64GB Flash SSD, but I forgot my Gmail account password and after too many attempts the Chromebook locked up.
There is no my processor model on the CoolStar site and I don't know if I could use files from someone else from the offered list. If anyone has a solution let them help.
