Being a fan of this band since pretty early on, around 2004, I was absolutely heartbroken when Jimmy passed away. I followed them through the years and got very attached to them through their short documentaries, live footage, and of course the music. Anyone who knew me knew that I was a deathbat (term for the A7X fan base) to the core. I'll never forget the feeling of my heart dropping into my stomach when my dad called me to let me know the news. I was so shaken up, I kept repeating "no, no, please don't be real, please" even as I read the articles and statement from the band. When they finished the album they had been working on before he passed and then released it, this song immediately had me crying. It's such a beautiful and touching tribute. For the longest time, this song would at least get me feeling a little misty eyed, but I enjoyed it regardless because it was a very cathartic release. Especially once they released the music video for it, this is so well made and it amplifies the emotions of the song itself. Anyway, I actually haven't listened to this song in a good while, a couple years maybe. I didn't think it would hit me too hard, but without fail, the moment that acoustic break kicks in between the guitar solos, and the flashback footage of Jimmy begins rolling, it opened the floodgates. Not just a tear or two, I was dropping tears like crazy. As a 30 year old man. I didn't anticipate the emotions hitting me, but it was such a good cry and seeing your reaction to it made me enjoy the experience even more. Sorry for writing you a little novel here, I just wanted to vent a little bit I suppose. I love your content, I look forward to your reactions all the time. Just wanted you to know that! Thanks for taking the time to read all of this if you happen to do so, and you're doing a fantastic job, keep up the great work. I'm impressed with how far you've come when it comes to the anxiety!
Avenged Sevenfold is by far the best and most talented band of the past 20 years. They have dozens of great songs. Not just good, but great, perfection. M Shadows is one of the best rock/metal vocalists and Synyster Gates is considered one of the best guitarists of all time. They are real talented musicians.

I think any of us who loved avenged back then remember where we were when we heard Jimmy had died. As a fandom we were shattered, and a lot of us didn't think the band would continue. We knew they'd all been best friends since grade school, and we all knew Jimmy was special-especially those of us lucky enough to have met him. Jimmy... Was just something else. One of the most amazing things I've seen is the impact he's had on so many fans after his death. I've spoken with so many who have said he's the reason they started playing music, that they feel like they know him like we did, that he's touched their lives for the better. It's an amazing legacy. Great reaction, thank you! :)
Great reaction 😊 next up: Save Me by this band, please 😁 this was their tribute to him, Save Me is... their final goodbye kindof, they lay it all out and the song is a straight up messege from them to Jimmie. Its a more angsty and agressive song, but it is still super emotional 😭
Glad to see you, looking great as usual. Love the song, the analysis and the the continuous growth. I'll continue to cheerlead for you. The Rev had played drums all his life, and he was a once in a lifetime phenomen. It was another dark moment in rock history.
Yeah I couldn’t imagine how heavy it was in the room when they heard the final production. The Rev was my idol man it still hurts to think about. R.I.P. foREVer !
I let my kids pick the music for my wife's funeral and they chose this song. I love A7X though, and I was stationed out in Ft. Irwin when they were still Sounding the 7th Trumpet. My wife and I saw them at a bar or two when we were barely 20. I actually saw them open for a Ronnie Racket. You just knew that they were one of the SoCal bands that was going to make it, and they were probably a dime a dozen of them out there.
Loved your reaction! You put the time in to research the meaning and lyrics, so you can get the full experience from watching the video. Fun fact: Synyster Gates normally has "SYN" on his guitar's fretboard, but in this video it says "REV" in honor of the rev, his late best friend. Synyster also wrote this song. Such a great piece of art and tribute to his buddy
Nice reaction. I love this song. I didn’t read enough comments to see if anyone pointed out to you that it was their drummer that died. His name is Jimmy aka “The Rev”. In the video, you will see Rev on (I think) Synester Gates guitar strap. They all grew up together and were best friends and brothers. He had an unknown heart condition and died suddenly. I think it was exasperated by all of the alcohol and other substances he had been enjoying that night. In the parts of the video when it’s them “currently”, you’ll see that there is no drummer (same in their song “Nightmare” which jimmy largely wrote and he layed down the drum track for before he died. They show his empty drum kit at the end of that one)
Great reaction, great song, RIP The Rev. Korn- Here to Stay Got the Life Rotting in Vain Slipknot- (going fairly old school) The Heretic Anthem (also if you wanted to check out the 2019 live version of this song from Download fest) Sic

Even though they're my favorite band, this is the side of them I don't really like. Even though the song has meaning & they're singing about their drummer dying, it connects more obviously with the band who had to go through this with their friend, when songs stray so far from what the band usually sounds like, I just can't get into it. But if a mellow song happens to be real good, I can get into it. I just don't get that from this song. If this was a song with just normal lyrics about something else, I'm sure it wouldn't be as popular. But I am glad that you discovered this song because it seems you really like it :)
