So this song is about/dedicated to their drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan that passed earlier than he should have. This band essentially grew up together, and so the video shown of these kids being kids, those are based in reality. In fact, two of them are actually brother-in-laws'. M. Shadows (the lead singer) married his school sweetheart. His bandmate, Syn Gates (lead guitar) is married to her twin sister. This song is very deep for them. So this song is essentially a family giving their goodbye to their brother.
As a new listener, I’d recommend “Afterlife”. The “live in LBC” version is better imo, but everyone is so quick to recommend their favorite, but “Afterlife” is by FAR the most accessible and gives a SOLID idea of the different sounds you can expect to hear from them. It’s amazing.
I double this. It's crazy people recommend it so quickly because I think it's better to understand the band first before listening to it, otherwise it only serves to dissuade listeners rather than bring them in. I think a better start is Beast and the Harlot or Almost Easy, and then possibly ask for feedback on where to go from there.
@aaronbeatdown yes agree. I've seen people stop listening to advenged over this song. It's creepy as fuc. Though I have to admit that once you get past the lyrics... the flow of the song is good.
@aaronbeatdown my personal favorites songs by A7X is Requiem, not ready to die, the stage, nightmare, heretic, hail to the king and danger line, to name a few.
there is live version for this song at rock am ring 2014 i really like it tbh

Song was written by Syn about his grandfather who passed away. But that was before The Rev died.
