Syn and The Rev were best friends forever. You can hear the band's sorrow throughout this, and especially Syn's sorrow in the haunting tones of his guitar. RIP, Rev...
I just came home from a funeral of a family member when this came up and honestly the retrospective at the end of the song made me cry more than the ceremony itself at the funeral today.
@@OldSkuleNerd Thanks dude. As always I appreciate your content as a distraction; you go into a lot of detail and know a lot of information that most don't (as best exemplified in the sabaton videos).
His name was Jimmy. James Owen Sullivan. Literally one of my idols man, in my top 3 drummers of all time man he was incredible. R.I.P. to one of the great ones man sheesh. Got a tribute tat for him
I'm not too sure if anyone has said this already, but Synyster Gates (the lead guitarist) wrote every part to this song, lyrics, guitar, and the drums were all written by him, and M Shadows named his son River and they nicknamed him "rev" in memory of jimmy.
Remember the lyrics. "A final song, a last request" then listen to the song fiction which was the last song written by the rev. And really think about that... They call it his last request and with that lyrical content it's pretty crazy
In fiction he says “promise me you’ll never feel afraid” and in so far away he sings “sleep tight, I’m not afraid”…. I don’t know how they got through those songs. Jimmy seemed way too much for this world to handle and he achieved and lived more in one day than most of us do in all our lives…
For all those times I heard this on the radio.... I just never saw any videos or paid attention to Avenged Sevenfold.... this was so heavy man and just an amazing tribute.
This song was on my playlist the day my dad died. We had lost my mum 6 days before and it was listening to this band that got me through it and has continued to now. Their strength, their grace, that ability to carry on and celebrate Jimmy's life in all they do has always given the the help to try and do the same no matter how hard. They and MCR saved me through the worst time in my life and I will always be grateful foREVer
I'm Truly Sorry for your losses Linda , losing your Parents within a week is 💔 , I lost my Dad Two weeks before The Rev died 13/12/2009 I also lost my Sister in 2001 aged only 27 years of age so I feel your pain i can honestly say if i lose my Mum my time on Earth is over, much love from me to you and your family from Carlo ❣️🌹❤️🙏
Synister Gates wrote this song for the Rev because they were best friends and he was understandably having a very hard time with the loss. It's such a beautiful song
I had a best friend I knew from middle school hang himself two years ago, The kindest soul ever and was always happy to see everyone I never thought he'd be the first to go before any of us. Here's a poem I wrote after I found out about his passing I hope it helps someone here. "Since The Loss Of You" Since the loss of you I've learned to live for each day And take it as a blessing Knowing it may not always be this way. Since the loss of you I've learned that when everything goes wrong To never give up on what is right Because it can only make you strong. Since the loss of you I've learned that even when you're in a lot of pain You've got to hold yourself together So you won't feel like you're going insane. Since the loss of you I've learned how to hold the tears when I want to cry Because all I have is memories And just want to ask God why. But mostly, since the loss of you I've learned a life can be taken in the blink of an eye And only Heaven really knows when That person will have to say "Goodbye."
The home video clips of Jimmy during the acoustic solo is absolutely the heaviest part. As a massive, longtime fan of A7X at the time of his passing, by the time this music video came out, I had just barely adjusted to not bursting out in tears listening to the song. I actually had no idea it was due for a music video, so when I saw it come out I was shocked and prepared myself for something emotional. The band has shared a lot over the years about their time growing up together, and many of the moments with the kid actors are recreations of things they'd talked about. It was a very emotional video, but I held my tears in. Until it got to that fucking acoustic bridge and it started playing the clips. It broke my heart ALL over again, I was streaming tears the same way I did when the song first came out, a brand new fresh cut straight to my heart. I love this band so much, they've been my #1 favorite band for most of my life since finding them in 2005. And by the way, I enjoy all of your content, but these emotional reactions that you do are by far my favorite. You always seem to hit all the right notes when it comes to paying attention to the music and voicing your thoughts. You catch on to things in a way that no other (or at least VERY few) reactors do, and it's something I crave so much when it comes to music reactions. I'm very connected to music emotionally, and I know when I'm seeing the reaction of someone who is as well. Noticed it on Constance, the very first reaction I ever saw from you (thanks to a Loudwire article advertising your reaction along with a few others). I plan to start doing what I can to get some requests in soon, there are a few songs I'm absolutely dying to see your unique perspective on. Much love from South Texas brother.
@OSN ,notice that in the video you only see as the drummer the kid actor on the past or him actually in the Retrospective, but not in the actual video of them aging and singing this song ,all the other band members bur never the Drummers face
Amazing Song, Awesome tribute. Thank you for reacting to this. I was not aware of the meaning for this song and seeing it just made me realize how short life can be and we need to cherish the ones we love and our friends while we can. Very heartfelt.
Honestly OSN you should check out the song by Avenged called Fiction. It was one of the last written songs Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and it was his last recorded song (from recollection). It is beautiful and haunting.
I remember back in 2011 I listened to this song and cried so hard about my dad, I had so much I wanted to say. "Your pain is gone, your hands united, so far away.." So I guess this song can touch the heart of everybody who's lost someone close
They also uploaded an official tribute video, the kind you use at their funeral and it was so painful and sad to watch but I do recommend you watch it in your spare time
Haha! I too was nerdy before it made you friends. Thank you for doing this song. Ive loved A7x for a long time now and i still miss Rev. He was probably the most talented drummer i have ever liked, and his death was like losing an Army buddy. I listened to Avenged Sevenfold SO much while i was in. I love your videos and your heartfelt retrospective. Keep it up please. Cheers.
I may have misunderstood you, but I think you said his name was Danny. With all due respect, his name was James Owen Sullivan, also known as The Reverend Tholomew Plague. One of my favorite drummers of all time and one of the best humans of all time. Much respect to you, I watch all of your videos and I love all of them, but I just had to put his name down so people know. He was god sent, he was an amazing person. RIP THE REV! Thank you for the amazing video good sir.
13:14 "Call a friend you haven't spoken to in a while - reconnect - because you're not promised to see them the next day." This made me think of the general theme of the song "If Today Was Your Last Day" by Nickelback, and it hit me as hard as that song does.
This song never fail to bring tears to my eyes. Especially when the old clips come up and that guitar solo kicks in! Even when in my car I can see the clips and the tears come! Such a perfect tribute song! 💙
This song... I use this song these last years in a special day, remembering someone that was like a big sister to me, always there to me, giving me happiness and great moments, this song it's really special
I held it together until you said 'if you've lost somebody, this is for you' I wasn't planning on getting yeary eyed while repacking trailer bearings, but here I am
Thanks for this reaction today ❤️ I’ve been in a weird funk just missing my best friend i grew up with and this just opened up the water gates but it feels so much better getting it all off my chest then acting like everything was fine
Great video as always, and what a touching song!! My BIG recommendation for a future video is Die Young by Machine Head. While the song is originally by Black Sabbath, Robb Flynn of Machine Head really finds a way to touch the soul with his voice and the soothing acoustics in the song. It's a must-listen and I really think you'll enjoy the song!!!
A few contextual notes: The line "where you can stay awake forever" -Jimmy had a reputation for never wanting to sleep, always staying up with friends The kids stealing beer is a reference back to an actual story about an ill-fated attempt at theft when they were kids lol The song was originally written by their lead guitarist for his grandfather when he passed, but re-written for Jimmy. Ty man, great reaction! All of us fans at the time remember where we were when we learned he'd died and it was utterly gut-wrenching. We all knew there was a good chance they wouldn't continue, and are grateful to this day that they did.
Great song, great reaction. The Nightmare album has that melancholic vibe I really like. If you want something really different from A7X, try A Little Piece of Heaven...
Syn and The Rev were best friends forever.
You can hear the band's sorrow throughout this, and especially Syn's sorrow in the haunting tones of his guitar.
RIP, Rev...
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. Be it the thousandth, or first time it just hurts so good
I just came home from a funeral of a family member when this came up and honestly the retrospective at the end of the song made me cry more than the ceremony itself at the funeral today.
sympathy for your loss

So Far Away was altered both to fit The Rev's death and Fiction, pretty cool

One of the best songs ever made!
It almost feels like the guitar was crying on that solo
It was man.. It was..
That solo from synyster Gates Breaks me every time .

That damn solo by Gates gives me chills every damn time. It's one off the best, but saddest solos of the band. It's so damn heartfelt.

My pleasure!!
Such a talent, such a loss, Jimmy may be gone but his music will live on foREVer!
You gotta react to the stage by them. One of the best music videos I've ever watched
I was just about to type that.... Completely agree!
You should check out the Live Grammy Museum version… also check out M.I.A. - Avenged Sevenfold
Music is what emotions sound like.
Honestly OSN you should check out the song by Avenged called Fiction. It was one of the last written songs Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and it was his last recorded song (from recollection). It is beautiful and haunting.
this song and Fiction also tie into each other

He was also their best friend. Mike Portnoy plays with them now.
This song hits hard. Always love avenged sevenfold reactions
Its okay to shed a tears bro....
They also uploaded an official tribute video, the kind you use at their funeral and it was so painful and sad to watch but I do recommend you watch it in your spare time
May I suggest checking out Corey Taylor’s acoustic version of snuff. Another one that very emotionally charged!👍🏻
Legacy of Odio by In This Moment is a song with similar vibes, the singer Maria Brink wrote it after she lost a friend
Haha! I too was nerdy before it made you friends. Thank you for doing this song. Ive loved A7x for a long time now and i still miss Rev. Avenged sevenfold critical acclaim is a very good song
Yeah, that's the first Avenged song I learned to play.

Ironically,I'm watching this like 2 days after slipknot's drummer passed away :/ musicians are dropping this week, we lost a zz top member too
Great song, great reaction. The Nightmare album has that melancholic vibe I really like. If you want something really different from A7X, try A Little Piece of Heaven...
Just recently started watching your videos and LOVE them, can we get some Tool reactions by chance?
