My man please make a video on Alevis in Turkey and Balkans.
They are a very interesting mix of twelver shiism and Sufi mysticism blended with Turkish and Kurdish folk religion.
They are really interesting in that they have no political structure beyond village elders anymore and some members(ishikis/Siryusis) consider themselves a seperate religion.
There are related groups like Shabaks and Alians who mix it with Yazidism and Orthodox Christianity too.

@@barashah1171 if you are shia you are clueless both these video's are unbalanced & show some anti shia influences. They both need to bring Iran propaganda into it, minor points of so called many branches when overwhelming 12er shia over 90% are twelver, even when count Zaydi, Ismaili numbers are smaller than groups Christianity is broken into more groups but don't get propaganda of nuanced split is needed for general public not really. Only reason these splits are exaggerated most times is little poke at shia. There times academically they might be discussed but if they are fair & balanced from start they would be clear on small numbers. Many groups died out long time ago like various waqfia.
As a shia you should realise 6 of 12 imams are buried in Iraq, Najaf, Karbala, Samarra, Kazimayn, Kufa, Balad, the history marja, arba'een etc.
Historical Iraq has always been seen as the homeland for shia even when oppressed under Saddam.
Now we have the clueless with some academic background making up stuff. making it out to be Iran which only because of politics in recent years took more prominence.
Najaf even under oppression of Saddam had sole leading marja at one point.
Yes Qum has been important for religious studies many years but Iraq because of the history was seen as the home land for shia no question.
All you seem interested in is connection to Sufism which isn't big thing.

Stories and apparent facts contradict each other. ? I don't fall into sects. I had been agnostic till I turned 26. I started believing in Christianity and after deep research, I reverted to true Islam. I tried Shiaism first but could not turn against those whom earth let buried beside Prophet (saw)? The same sacred earth that was shaken when Bibi Zohra's (as) hair was exposed, according to Shia Zakir. If your cult is really on the right path then tell me any blessed name of any Shia commander ever adding one inch to the Islamic empire in the empirical era?? I am an ordinary person and it does not matter if my wife were disobedient to me but I would never ever allow any low-level outsider to curse my wife for centuries in processions. By God, Muhammad(saw) was the most honorable person, humanity has ever seen. How would you face Muhammad(saw) on Doom's day? Would you let any outsider repeat the cruel incident details about your women, using the names of your women in processions for centuries?? If you are an honorable Muslim then don't run without answering...
I would not ever give my names of three enemies (curse of Allah(SWT) on Laeens) to my kids and your hypocrite Zakirs like Ammar Nakshwani try to prove that they were after other people with similar names. What a coincidence. Why do your hypocrite Zaakirs, who tell six different stories about the same incident, not tell you the real name of Ali Akbar (as) was Abu Bakr bin Hussain(as) and Ali Asghar(as) name was Umer bin Hussain(as)?
We Muslims believe Ali(as) is the lion of God and could not have been chained by billions of Khalids bin Walid. You are a stigma to Islam as Islam is a Ph.D. guide that gives solutions to problems and does not give rise to problems as a result of Prostitution under the Mutta Certificate. Period!!
Repent before it is too late as life is short and the time is flying and stop crying for those who have been reaping the best rewards ever since due to their greatest sacrifices, leaving chimps behind to beat their chests for centuries. Peace!!

I am a twelver shia and I have to say that you have handled this topic with so much grace and respect with factual and academic based information. There are couple of things even I didn't know and would like to research further.
i learned of existence of Irfan in Shia doctrine very recently, myself by Sheikh Shomali's lectures which are available on youtube. He was resident Alim in Islamic centre of England. Learned about mysticism in Shia Islam only in 2012 during Hajj where we were accompanied by sheikh arif abdulhussain an expert in shia mysticism and metaphysics. It was all very revealing and new to me. I believe that overwhelming majority of Shias don't know of these concepts of their own religion (at least I can say so of shias in subcontinent where I come from, currently live in London).

Convert here. Had a hard time picking between Shia and Sunni for a long time and just considered myself "Muslim" but as I get more deeply entrenched in Islam theology the more Fiqh I realize I need to stay centered and grounded. This was an excellent case for Shia thought and I'm considering studying it in depth going forward. Itjihad in particular fascinates and draws me. Thank you. Edit: since I made this comment almost a year I've dived into Shia and Sunni Fiqh and Sunni feels more natural. Even if I agree the Prophet (SAW) picked Imam Ali (RA) to lead after him things like the Imamate have no Quranic or jurisprudential basis. To me Sunni is the truth but I still respect and love our Shia brothers and sisters. May Allah bless and guide all of us.

there are 3 main waves of deception in shiasm i know of.
      - ibn saba the neo pauline preacher said Ali is a god and pushed civil wars like paul did, then Hasan united them.
Ali burned the she'a who said he's god too!
2nd wave when the shias who did taqiyah and weren't burned for shirk by Ali invited Hoosain, shias worship hossain who married a princess from magian areas as a front to continue magian royal worship!
3rd wave, lies on rest of ahlul bait in particularly Jafer Sadiq who said Abu Bakr gave birth 2 me twice, had a daughter named Aisha, until the 12 imam who matches the dajjal.
      >>>
If she'a followed Quran they would be Sunni, Quran 25 :74 mentioned make us husbands imama - and Umar married Ali's daughter so imama in Quran is Sunni Caliphas, game over!!! Umar who defeated the magian empire is Quran's imama and should be the she'a "imama"!
but shiasm isn't about Quran, its about taqiyah for their magian empire who (along with byzantines) aided the riddah wars beaten by Abu Bakr justifying Umar topping the magians (& byzantines) themselves!
      -
This is symbolized Abu Bakr and Umar's Conquest of Magians and Byzantines from 2 buckets of water unified in one conquered by the umma in the hadith acc. to ibn Hajr & Shafaa:
Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with them both) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Whilst I was standing by a well, drawing water from it, Abu Bakr and ‘Umar came. Abu Bakr took the bucket and drew one or two buckets, but there was some weakness in his drawing. May Allah forgive him. Then ‘Umar bin Al-Khattaab came and the bucket turned into a very large one in his hands. I had never seen such a mighty person as he in doing such hard work till all the people drank to their satisfaction and watered their camels that knelt down there.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3676).
Quran exposes rafidi shias as disbelievers per Quran 48 :29

Abu Ja’far, the 5th Shia Imam said
Abdullah Ibn Saba used to claim being a prophet and claimed that The commander of believers (i.e. Ali) is God. Allah is Higher than such claim. This news reached to The commander of believers (i.e. Ali), so he called him and questioned him. But he repeated his claims and said:
"You are Him (i.e. God), and it has been revealed to me that you are God and I am a prophet." So the commander of believers (i.e. Ali) said: "How dare you! Satan has made a mockery of you. Repent for what you said. May your mother weep at your death! Quit [your claim]." But he refused, so Ali imprisoned him and asked him three times to repent, but he didn’t. Thus he burnt him (i.e. his corpse after killing him[24] ) with fire and said: "Satan had taken him into his whim, he used to come to him and to induce these (thoughts) in him”.
      - Rijal al-Khashshi, V.1, P.323
Some knowledgeable people have stated that Abdullah bin Saba was a J*w who had accepted Islam and showed great devotion for Ali (peace be upon him). As a J*w, he used to exaggerate the personality of Joshua, the son of Nun, the Wasi of Moses. After becoming a Muslim, he began to say about the personality of Ali such this(peace be upon him) after the demise of Rasulullah (peace be upon him and his progeny), and he was the first person who manifested the saying of obligation of believing in the Imamate of Ali, and completely dissociated himself from his enemies and he openly opposed them and denounced them as infidels. So, it is in this light that those there were against the Shias said: The origins of Shi'ism and Rafdh are taken from J*d*ism.
      - Rijal al-Kashi, page.71

Not so much the Safavids, but the dominance of Shi'ism through the Fatimids and Buyids. What scholars have often referred to as the "Sunni Revival" around the 12th century is in many ways instead the birth of Sunnism as we know it. The formation of a distinct "Sunni" identity defined through adherence to certain creeds (Ash'ari, Maturidi etc.) and the four legal schools (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i and Hanbali) as all belonging to a unified concept of "Sunnism" came about much in response to political Shi'i dominance, whereas before there had sometimes been bitter fighting between the legal schools for instance.

Great content like always. Just wanted add one comment: in my view, the essence of both Shi`ism and Sufism is the concept of wilayah and wali, i.e., the mediary between God and the creation. In Shi`ism, the twelve Imams are the ultimate walis, but to the Sufi, this might not necessarily be the case. This difference, in my opinion, is minor and unimportant. In fact, many (I hesitate to say all) Shia arifs (عارف) have considered and consider Suni Sufis like Rumi as "true Shia". Also, the lineage of many Sufi orders goes back to some of the Shia Imams including Imam Jafar al-Sadiq. Anyway, I think the connection between Shi`ism and Sufism is really interesting, would love to see a video on that if that's something that interests you. Thank you once again for the content!

First thanks for everything and mostly thanks for the podcast, it makes life easier to listen to 40 min or more while biking to work in an early morning, instead of sitting still near a computer. Something you may missed about Shia, When khalifa othman was in power, he did banish a lot of Imam Ali sahaba to different locations far away from capital, one of those is Aba Dharr al ghafari, He moved to Lebanon and started teaching about Shia islam there, thats why in Lebanon you can find alot of Shia muslims, his base was Jabal Amel, it was the source of feqeh for shia muslim even before Najaf and Qom, When the Safadi empire was stuck between 2 other sunni empire in the east and west, the only way for them to grow bigger was to be different, so they have decided to change into shia islam to be able to grow. So they did get Ulamah from Lebanon jabal amel to help spread Shia islam in Iran. I am not trying to say that, shia was in Iran only because of that. In the past also Imam ali sent a group from bani hashem to settle down in Qom, thats why most Shia scholars have black turbin on their head, that means they are the decedent from Ahlu al Bait.

In 6 days war, Sunni nations got beaten collectively while Shias of Lebanon defeated Izrahell and kicked them out of Lebanon. But these people will never publicly praise and acknowledge Shias for theri efforts. This is the true face hypocrites. That's why God is humiliating them publicly.
This is the key difference between following shady sahabas v following good Sahaba's and Ahlulbayt. God is on our side.

Nobody believes Persian lies except their American allies in the Democratic party. Iran has been funding terrorism in the Middle East for years and they only brought with them misery and destruction to Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. They didn’t build a future for their own nation and give it prosperity and development, so they are less likely to give it to others.

@@KabsatLa7am you're from a state that is openly allied with the United States , Saudis are an illegitimate regime , and shall fall someday just as Israel . So don't try accusing others of what your people do , shame on you .
This land is named Alhijaz , who gave you the authority to name it after a family ?
Your state isn't prosperous , the only prosperity one can reach is through Islam , and a state that imports US ideology of concerts and "Halal Bars" and even brought Adult films entertainers into its land to promote tourism , is a state that has nothing to do with Islam but rather is an enemy of Islam .
Iran built this network of paramilitary forces in the Middle east to encircle the cancerous state occupying Palestine, and if you want to support it and the US , then you'll be encircled too .

In my country Islam is taught through a very biased lens, and honestly most of us find it so overbearing and complicated that we abonden Islam alltogheter and don't bother researching it. But your channel is such a breath of fresh air. You don't make fun of people's beliefs, and I can really see how passionate you are about the subjects you research. I feel so comfortable here. I don't feel like someone is looking down on me, I feel like I'm having a discussion with a friend.
What I really liked about this video is that you tried not to generalize any group or thought, even though it's difficult.
Keep up the good work. I always look forward to new videos ❤️

This ideology of Shiite & Sunni Muslim indifferences over succession is really messed up & ironic,
Shiite believe the family bloodline of the prophet Mohammed SAW are the rightful successors yet they reject monarchy rule and practice democracy, while Sunnis believe successors of the prophet should be exclusive to a qualified ruler candidate, yet almost all current Sunni regimes are monarchs who have family members as successors.
Could anything be more confusing ? No wonder Muslims are in such a mess & chaos.

      What democracy does Shiite follow?
The only Shiite country is Iran and they are definitely not a democracy, on the other hand we see a monarchy in the gulf states because of their calture which is a tribal one which result of them being ruled under a monarchy, same with Morocco, on the other hands other Arabs countries don't follow that, Indonesia and Pakistan large majority Sunni Muslims and have democracy.

This really excellent and well done from a secular intellectual perspective. I love the esoteric mystical aspects discussed, however, the esoteric mysticism is often seen as united with outward worldview. It's a disservice to discuss the concept of ahlul bayt without discussing the disunity (fitnah) a century after the holy prophet's (alayhi wa aali salaam) death. The assassination of Ali ibn abi Talib (as) by a Kharajite has to be discussed, how and why it took place...it's political and mystical meanings
