Thanks for being the only builder /craftsman to talk about Insurance and Registration. Definitely an eye opener. I do think the uk licensing agency need a majority update to be more modification friendly. Keep up the great work. IMO this build is an HOMAGE and not a true replica, so dont concern yourself with what should be and do it to suit you. We're just happy your taking us along for the ride.👍👏
I think the location of the filler cap is perfect - its a nod to the Porsche and in the right place where you havent made work for yourself. The recess is a touch of class. One of the best builds on YT, up there with Binky imo
Its a good day when the next video of yours is uploaded. Your panel gaps and fit are WAY better than Austin Rovers back in the day i can tell you! Awesome work John
absolutely brilliant the way your running through all the little problems and figuring out ways to sort them out but still keeping it looking the way you want is fantastic 👍 petrol cap looks sound where you put it mate
Wow I have gotten more and more addicted to watching this build. It started of just being one of my favorite cars and has quickly grown into being amazed at your attention to detail and aesthetics of the work you do. Amazing John, filler looks good where it is, top job. Frenching in lights and vents was something I loved to do in the days of Max power and people spending stupid money on custom body kits, watching this makes me want to have a go at my own project one day. 👍🏻
Amazing work, simple engineering solutions with attention to detail and that wiper motor fitting was some fine luck. How you don't have more subs I don't know!
I think there are different types of channels, some info and some entertainment, and I think that’s where the likes of project binky does well, they have some entertainment in there also
Great job John. I have been enjoying how you are showing and teaching problems solving. I have over 35 years of experience in this industry and also worked on 6r4 metro’s early 1990,s. Keep up the great work.
Interesting about the Q plate. I thought that as you are using the Porsche “chassis” and all the original running gear you would be able to retain the Porsche no plate, as it still has a VIN. It then is just a case of re registering as modified body type with DVLA once you have IVA cert form VOSA . I did this with a Porsche speedster replica. No problem. Loving your progress so far.
This is incorrect unfortunately. The chassis ‘is’ the bodyshell and its modified. You have presumably used a beetle chassis (which is separate from the body). Although technically it too would be modified as it will be shortened. Chesil type cars got around this as the kit itself had been iva/sva tested…. I believe. I think it comes under the ‘kit of parts’ bracket.?? Maybe
I used to make aftermarket taillights for Noble M12's and when you got to the fuel cap recess I'm like ..... 'Mould around a mixing pot John' ..... and low and behold !!!! Loving this build buddy
It's really coming along now ! I think all these smaller jobs often get overlooked but take the most time and when done right make such a difference. The filler cap looks right and I'm sure 99% would've just drilled a hole and bolted it in ? Always good to see a new video and you strike a good balance of what you achieve and how you got there without the usual you tube drama and waffle. 😅
Well this is it, I don’t think they make as interesting content, for the masses, but people interested in a build like these types of videos,…. I’d watch videos like this of other builds
Hi John reference the fuel filler cap. Personally I would have fitted the 2 dummy filler necks as they should be in the origional 1/4 panels and put the front filler behind a hinged/sprung panel with a nice tight gap. It would of been almost invisible. Just my opinion for what its worth. Great job 👍🇬🇧
I just love the confidence and craftsmanship - always great when one of your videos pop up. I think the fuel cap looks great and there is an honesty to just keeping what is needed rather than adding fake ones. Same with the bonnet catch - may as well have the remote release 👍
One of my top projects this.. filler caps.. personal i prefer them at the rear .. but i understand needs must for it to work for you. .. maybe a flap on the front wing to camouflage it ... Great project.. love the progress
You can buy flush mount caps now, that pop out when you push them, I sort of like the way it’s kinda the same but not the same as a 6r4. I think. Nobody who knows anything about the real cars will think this is real anyway as you won’t be able to see the engine. It will have a full interior
Well done, as someone who owns/runs a bodyshop I appreciate all the work that’s going on here. I think you have the same mindset as me in so much as enjoy problem solving and just plain old finding a way! Good luck and I look forward to the rest. 👍🏻
I do, but when I have an idea I like to work on it straight away… and that’s not always possible, and so you could be quite frustrated by the time you’re actually working on it
Really great progress this week, I’m glad you chose to do the fuel filler cap exactly as you did, I was hoping you would find this conclusion. Well done.
Lovely job, great idea with the filler cap, the only thing that annoyed me it wasn't looking quiet straight down (might be camera, might not be fully fitted yet so I'll excuse you) Boot lid even sounds quality fitted 👍👍👍
@pedenconceptz I thought it might be something like that. You are doing some good work 👍 I'm enjoying watching. I hope it passes musta with the DVLA inspections. 😁
Some stuff has worked out mot too bad, I think it’s all down to the bulkhead placement in relation to the wheelbase, if It had been a inch or two either way I’d have been in bother
Stumbled across this build a few months ago, really enjoying it, the filler cap doesnt look out of place at all, awesome work, look forward to the next video 🤘😎👌
When tackling the recessed filler cap issue, I honestly thought that you was going to cut out the recessed circle on the bonnet leaving a 10mm lip, cut a hole in the wing and reposition the new piece onto the inside of wing and then fill the hole in the bonnet with fibreglass to a smooth finish! I’ve become accustomed to expect a complicated but perfect solution to all the issues you face now! 😄 Great work as usual.
I actually think what I done was quicker… plus the wing needed thickening up. But I think I will remove the bonnet recess… it looks weird now beside the cap
@@pedenconceptzYeah, you’re probably right. I agree with you about removing that recess, as it does look a bit odd. I’ve tried to see what it was actually for, but a lot of the 6R4s I’ve seen don’t have it. The ones that did have it (possibly replicas?) cut out the centre and used it as an access to the external fuel and electric cut off switches that are required to go rallying.
I just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy watching you tackle all of the interesting problems on this project, especially to such a high standard, so thank you. I wonder if later on there is something interesting you could do with the exhaust/manifolds maybe unequal length or something to give it that uneven fire sound of the original 6r4?
making great progress, i did however notice abit of flex in the boot when you closed it, need to watch that as your blasting around and air gets under it
Great stuff. After all you've achieved with this, you weren't going to let a wiper mechanism, bonnet catch and a few panel gaps get in the way of a great result.
All about the attention to detail and such an insight to the thought processes and consideration of each and every part. Very fortunate with the wiper motor fittings! Considered a mirror image fuel cap on the other wing as a nod to the OEM twin tank fillers? Great update John, loving this content ❤️😎👍
This is looking very cool now all these little details are what makes this an awesome build I personally like the fuel filler there its a little nod to the secret that its a Porsche underneath, i certainly don’t think 3 will look right this looks clean especially once its all painted
Loving this build. I was always told the Q stood for questionable age as I like hot rods and owned a modified 1953 Ford Popular. Luckily mine had its original number plate.
@pedenconceptz never seems to happen for me 😂. I just really don’t want 2x filler caps in one side of it. You could disguise it better if it hadn’t been recessed, but that’s not really what it going for. I think I like it as it is

It’s not all bad, in some other country’s you couldn’t do this at all
Great build , I'm really looking forward to the next episode
Thanks
Absolutely fantastic video..inspirational, attention to detail...love it!!!
That wiper motor is a sure sign that this was meant to be.
I really couldn’t believe it, I thought I’d have to do all sorts to get it to work, it’s very cramped in that area
like your thinking tru your modifing work.. the ressesed tank filler loock nize.. good work..!!! waitning 4 your next video

Its a good day when the next video of yours is uploaded. Your panel gaps and fit are WAY better than Austin Rovers back in the day i can tell you! Awesome work John
Thanks, at least I am in no panic to get 200 of them made for homologation, they were pretty bad
Impressive as usual, John. Keep her lit

absolutely brilliant the way your running through all the little problems and figuring out ways to sort them out but still keeping it looking the way you want is fantastic 👍 petrol cap looks sound where you put it mate
Love this build well done sir your skills are impressive 👏 can't wait fir the next one
Thank you
Can’t wait to watch tomorrow after work, only just seen the latest upload 🙌 what a guy what a legend 👌
Who am I kidding! I’m watching it right now in the wee early hours! Can’t resist! Loving the content 🤌🙂↕️👍
Sure it’s Friday anyway, you shouldn’t have to work too hard if you get not sleep anyway
how lucky were you with the wiper motor, i bet you were well chuffed with that, amazing work pal
Great to see you working with basic tools anyone with a bit of fabrication knowledge could manage, cannot wait for the next one.
You’re making great progress on your build. Can’t wait for the next instalment
Thanks

Some good progress with ingenuity! Keep at it, see you in the next episode👍🏻
Thank you
amazing luck with the wiper motors
It certainly was!
Well done! I look forward to seeing the next instalment.
Just stumbled on your channel, and got caught up with the episodes. Great build this one. Your doing a good job.
Subbed
Thanks for watching them all! 👍
Great job John. I have been enjoying how you are showing and teaching problems solving. I have over 35 years of experience in this industry and also worked on 6r4 metro’s early 1990,s. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for watching
Really enjoy your videos and problem solving style. Always a good day when there is a new video uploaded
Thanks for watching
Another excellent episode...no messing about just straight to the point
Yea, I think peoples attention span for these sort of jobs is limited, I’d rather keep the pace up
Interesting about the Q plate. I thought that as you are using the Porsche “chassis” and all the original running gear you would be able to retain the Porsche no plate, as it still has a VIN. Some really solid progress - a pleasure to watch you tackle each problem and detail to make the car look “right”
Thanks, I do want it to turn out well
Never let a genius loose with tools. Why? Because this happens. Love it!
Thanks, I could do with a few more tools but we get by
@@pedenconceptz Yes we do. We adapt and modify to get the result we need. Spot on mate.

Thank you, there was no drama so I didn’t have to waffle about it! Lol
Coming together nicely,it's not always about the big fancy jobs, the small run of the mills bits have to be finished too!!
Well this is it, I don’t think they make as interesting content, for the masses, but people interested in a build like these types of videos,…. I’d watch videos like this of other builds
Love your work and presenting, very relaxing 😊
Thank you
Sir you are a genius
Thanks, not really but I do get to spend a lot of time think about how to do these jobs
Can’t believe, you were able to mount a metro on to a Boxster, you are so clever at working out solutions. It just gets better and better each time. 🏆
Thanks, a bit of luck was involved too, I couldn’t get any measurements for either car really until I bought them, except for what was online

Thanks, maybe, but I think the solution I’ve came up with was a simple way out of it and I’ve convinced myself it was the right idea.
Great progress John. I see nothing wrong with the filler neck placement, especially considering the base car
Thanks Connor with 2x n’s
Been invested in this build since it started. You should have 10x as many subscribers!!
Thank you.
Hi John. Some excellent solutions, great workmanship and good engineering content. Looking forward to future episodes. Cheers!
Thanks, I think the solutions were relatively simple but then I’ve had time to think them through
Lots of progress! You are very thorough with your work, and it shows! Keep it going!
Thanks, I just don’t want to have it done and regret something I have (or haven’t) done on it
Absolutely love watching you work, John. Really interesting explanation of I.V.A and Q plates. Thanks for another superb upload, mate👊
Thanks
You are doing fantastic work John!

Fuel filler looks good to me. Enjoying your work!

Hi John. Looking forward to seeing you on the road. Not holding my breath for Project Binky quite as much.
We could be finished at the same time…!
I have to say you’re a genius mate, my 6R4 build is light years behind this great stuff. 👍
Thanks, is it on TH-cam? I do like to watch all the 6r4 builds
Lovely job, great idea with the filler cap, the only thing that annoyed me it wasn't looking quiet straight down (might be camera, might not be fully fitted yet so I'll excuse you)
Boot lid even sounds quality fitted 👍👍👍
It’s not screwed in, but the bolts don’t line up with the flap on the cap anyway, it wasn’t an expensive piece
@pedenconceptz I thought it might be something like that.
You are doing some good work 👍 I'm enjoying watching.
I hope it passes musta with the DVLA inspections. 😁
This thing is looking amazing, such a cool project. I can't believe how much luck you've had with things lining up. Top work

making great progress, i did however notice abit of flex in the boot when you closed it, need to watch that as your blasting around and air gets under it
Yes, it needs a brace on the bottom, I plant to tie that into the fog light mounts
One of the builds I’ve waiting for. Great work as usual and I’d say keep to whatever is closest to the original. The one you have looks rally type.
I think it’s ok yea, most of the cars had black ones, but I think it might be a bit in your face in black, hence I got alloy at the time
Looking good .......filler cap looks bang on

starting to look really good keep at it, as this is gonna be a beast
