I left Sky, which only offered a 36mb connection, got 220mb broadband from Virgin for £28 a month, got a Firestick for under £40 and use it with Pluto, Plex and others for free. There are stacks of TV available for free including sports. My smart tv has loads of channels and apps that I use all for free. I went from £68 a month down to £32 a month, as I subscribe to the Discovery channel which is £4 a month, and have a much faster broadband. (I know you can do lots more with a Firestick but I am keeping it simple.)
Some great points in video. 2 things though. IMO the difference between hd & sd is huge, everything looks fuzzy (good example is Formula 1 on C4, the sd version looks terrible by comparison) & Re the Sky Q Lnb, our other tv is a Samsung with with built in satellite reciver and it had no issues picking up the free to air channels. as you stated that might not be the case for everyone. Best of luck everyone
After 28 years of sky tv and 4 years of Sky Broadband, I am out of contract and have cancelled service. Moved back to BT for broadband along with new new tv pro box, includes Netflix and Now TV (entertainment) 50mb download, on a 24 month contract, taking into consideration reductions and rebate works out at £29.00 per month, as a comparison sky’s best (haggled) price was £63.00 per month, no brainer.
I notice on my Q box now most channels are go to HD now and there cut off lot SD version channels sky cinema is left with only HD now apart from 3 SD channels in that genre I don't notice much diffence for HD
Thank you very much for these Brilliant tips & by the, your tips are accurate. I however, Hate Sky but it does an excellent job of keeping me alive because of all the entertainment I enjoy no longer available on terrestrial telly & Sky F1 HD is totally invaluable to me. Sky F1 HD is literally saving my life. My package is expensive but is it really? I have the ultra Fast Fibre Broadband because I have a streaming gaming channel under a different ID & channel so I need the Package but you have shown me how to get my mobile bill down. Nice 1 matey. Stay safe.
Thank you, its always worth Haggling with sky to see if you can get your bill down further, perhaps when you are sorting out your Mobile ask them if you can make any savings on your TV package, they can only say no!
I was with Sky for over twenty years and was paying £130 a month for Sky Q and two additional boxes and the internet and Netflix and Sky Sports I Switched to Virgin earlier this year and with the main box and two additional boxes (the boxes do have less storage than Sky), Gigabit internet, all the channels I had already (although Sky Atlantic isn't on there plus a few other Sky exclusive channels), Netflix (but not the HD version like I had with Sky), phone line (not sure what it offers for calls as I don't use it), an O2 sim card (unlimited calls and texts but not certain how much data), BT Sport and Sky Movies (which I didn't have), all this was £90 a month for eighteen months. Definitely worth it for the price and I know it will go up when this contract runs out. The weird thing was that if I didn't take the phoneline as part of the deal, it was going to be £30 more If I had the fastest internet from Sky (which was nowhere near what I'm getting now), the movie channels and BT Sport and a sim card, I'd be paying twice what I pay now In terms of channels, there are ones like CNN, That's TV and the Ultra HD versions of Sky Sports being the main ones not available. I also don't get Paramount+, which is free if you have Sky Movies. There are some apps not available as well (nothing I can't get elsewhere, although Disney+ is now available. They offered me six months free when I signed up to Virgin which I never got (and it wasn't even available on their service then). I already had a paid subscription
it didnt last long with bt sport being cheaper than sky sports lol. its like 30 quid now bt sport used to be a tenner. now as usual coz its warner brothers or going to tnt sports it'll go up to 35 or 40 probably next year

Just moving house and Sky make a big deal of no cost for moving. However, there's a catch. I currently have my broadband, sky Q tv and Sky Talk with them in an 18 month contract that expires end of December 2024. When I tried to arrange the move date but was surprised when the Sky rep insisted that for the move I would need to recontract my broadband for a further 18 months. Why on earth is this? I simply wanted to move my complete package as it stood. Come December I may have wished to shop around for my broadband particularly since in my area Sky cannot provide full fibre to the house. I might add that the property I'm moving to had broadband previously with the same speeds I get at my current property and they had sky HD with a dish. Accordingly, all I would need is a new fish and for the engineer to change the LNB. Anyone else who has moved house come up against this money grab?
I pay £150 month of my sky bill I tried to cancel my sky sports subs and the told me I couldn't because it was still in contract so they said it runs to December thi s year and told me to phone back in December but a few days later I received a email saying they had renewed the contract for another ,18 months so what could I do

It's about time sky dropped the HD charge. With the closure of the BBC SD channels and itv closing some of theirs, Sky launched Sky Mix in HD only, HD is gradually becoming the standard. Sky Q box I have is non UHD

Thanks for sharing about the LNB, the picture quality of HD can vary depending on the size of your screen and the quality of the screen itself too!
How can you get Skytv on the cheap on the costa del sol ?
Is it better on line or satellite dish ? 🤔
You would need a rather large dish to get a good reception, if you have a decent broadband connection of 15mbps or more then I would go online.

Call Sky and talk to them any new contract made over the phone should be subject to a 14 day cooling off period so you should be able to cancel.
