Well I mean Japanese can look like Chinese when only Kanjis are written (wich can be something that happens). Kanjis are legit just Chinese characters. I think Korean had (and in some parts still has) something called "Hanja" wich are also Chinese characters. But since it isn't used much (in North Korea it isn't used at all anymore) it's very easy to tell Korean apart, especially since it looks very different. But telling Japanese and Chinese apart if you don't speak any of those languages can be quite the challange when there are only Kanjis written in a Japanese sentence.
