How many times can the same story be told? ALOT. In the events of Gozilla Minus one, while the title doesnt make much sense probably because I am a noob of sorts, the movie, is actually really good. A giant Tyrant lizard, becomes exposed to radiation creating the New variant of Godzilla. However, there is something more to this than we have seen before. Infectious cells that seem to be able to spread to humanity. What exactly is that? Lets discuss it in todays episode!

Godzilla actually had a potent healing factor pre-mutation! This was revealed in the novelization written by director Takashi Yamazaki, and was reiterated in post-film release interviews. The director says that Shikishima's plane's guns probably wouldn't have killed Godzilla due to this healing factor, and said healing factor was dramatically altered due the immense irradiation and burns incurred by "Operation Crossroads".
And now that you've covered this exploration of post-WWII Japanese survivor's guilt as a kaiju film, you absolutely must cover the opposite end of the spectrum where humanity punches alien kaiju in the face with giant mechs in the glory that is *Pacific Rim* and everything it stands for! They also even use your contrarian caveman units, even though the Metric system is the most universal and actually understandable one.
I've been using Factor for quite some time now. It is a little pricey but it's more affordable than buying the junk food ingredients from the dollar store. Or ordering takeout.
The director has stated that Godzilla's pre-mutated form already had regenerative abilities, but the mutations from the bombs radiation basically cranked those abilities up to 11. When his body tried to heal itself from the radiation burns from the bomb tests, the mutations caused him to keep regenerating much more than normal, which is what made him so much bigger and stronger than before.
Made sense goji saurus had a regen factor already or he wouldv been cooked when those nukes exploded
Actually it's the other way around as Pre-bomb Goji had extremely powerful regenerative abilities but the bomb nerfed those abilities. This came from said director.

@@skwisgarskwigelf7191 the japanese 20mm kinda sucked because it was low velocity and low penetrative power compared to other countries and what they used at the time, plus he probably had air-to-air ammunition loaded which would’ve meant it wouldn’t have done anything to godzilla.
Even without his hyper regenerative abilities pre-nuke it wouldn’t have done anything to him but make him much more pissed off

I love Godzilla's movement on land. It looks so robotic. It's like the brain is sending the right signals, but the connection glitches for a second or two. Makes it all the monstrous.
Also, quick correction: The photos weren't of Shikishima's parents. They were of the mechanics and their families. The chief mechanic gave them as a means to give Shikishima extra-survivor's guilt. It's an important plot-point, because he wasn't gonna answer Shikishima's letters, so Shikishima sent him letters blaming him for the deaths of his subordinates to lure him out and beg him for help.

And, reptiles heal in an almost ungodly manner. Yes, the airplane guns would've hurt. But, he's grounded and can only get off a few rounds before Godzilla simply moved out of the bullet's path. Godzilla would've been even more pissed off, and dude would become multiple dudes as he was ripped apart.

Fun fact: the plane used for the final attack on Godzilla is a Kyūshū J7W Shinden. It was a prototype, and only two were ever built at the time. One was scrapped, and the other is partially on display at Dulles Airport. For whatever reason, they never put it back together or flew it after taking it back to the US.
The one in the movie is a full-scale replica built by Toho Studios. The replica was apparently paid for by the Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum, where it is on display.

Fun fact, most non-avian dinosaurs did not actually have hallow bones. While some did, the largest dinosaurs like titanosaurs would not have been able to reach such sizes without solid bone. Instead, they're believed to have had air sacs throughout their body much like birds, which also allowed them to absorb more oxygen.
I like every new thing they learn about dinosaurs. It just makes them like even weirder than we ever thought. Like what the hell was even going on back then.

Not true at all. Some had hollow and some had both hollow bones and air sacs. And I’m pretty sure hollow bones are an identifier for Theropods (like allosaurus)

Good video, but a few things:
-yes, the axe DID land on Godzilla’s face in GVK. HOWEVER, not only did it merely DAZE him, but it pissed him off more than anything (as it’s confirmed the hit bruised his ego as opposed to actually hurting him). Plus Godzilla in the Monsterverse is confirmed as his own thing and “special” and that the others were “Godzilla like creatures”.
-Godzilla’s pre-mutated film is confirmed as Godzilla in the film, and he’s actually intelligent according to the novel. He doesn’t kill Shikishima because he didn’t provoke him (he knew the pilot was there) and had a symbiotic relationship with the Odo Island natives, as he brought them fish and the natives brought him food.
-the firepower on Odo Island would NOT have killed the pre-mutated form, as that form DOES have regeneration. The director stated "Correct. Godzilla has been affected by radiation since Operation Crossroads in Bikini Atoll, but before that, Godzilla was unaffected by radiation and his regenerative ability was unrelated to radiation. "Correct. I’m calling cap on the first one. If the axe chopped through his leg, why couldn’t it go through his head especially from Kongs running jump? I think what happened is that Kongs axe absorbed the atomic breath and then released all that energy. That explosion is what sent both kaiju flying, not the actual strike.
That regenerative mutation was why he was still alive after the 4th Extinction Event 65 million years ago. Essentially immortal if he can regenerate limbs too the bane of excessive life spans are injury accumulation.
@@gojitsar7505 Godzilla in the Monsterverse also has a high regenerative ability (of course not as substantial as Minus One but it is there). At most that axe hit lightly hurt him as he is shown literally bodying Kong later on after the axe hit his leg (although it did cut him, it didn't reach bone so we can't really conclude the hardness of his bone, but it is likely as hard or harder than his dorsal plate). Also given that it is a supercharged axe and we clearly see that as it gets more supercharged it has a greater destructive capability, as seen in the fight with Mechagodzilla, likely a good supercharged blow to the head would break a bone. But not go through his head really. It did not cut through his leg cleanly and would likely not cut through his skull cleanly either especially since the skill is mostly bone. I agree that the axe was likely absorbing energy and releasing it at the moment of impact on Godzilla's head because although he is a different 'Gojira' the mechanism for the breath was likely the same. That really doesn't mean that a direct axe hit to Godzilla's head would kill him because it didn't, the axe was supercharged and hit his head. And he was only dazed. Godzilla after the fight sustained no major injuries other than a minor cut to his leg, and exhaustion.
(ps. People really underestimate Godzilla's durability, he survived Ghidora dropping him from the stratosphere, got hit with multiple gravity beams and, in the comics survives and beats Muto Prime (who could cause earthquakes with her punches.))
@@TheVhangkhitha It didn’t reach bone when the axe wasn’t even charged, couldn’t we argue that a charged one could definitely do so? I don’t underestimate Godzillas durability, but if you establish that a weakened axe being able to slice through Godzillas skin and flesh like butter is more capable than a charged axe also established to be stronger than the base axe, that’s inconsistent in both power scaling and movie writing.

This is just my own headcanon, but I believe that the reason why it absolutely had to be Mr. Tachibana (the mechanic) is because Shikishima didn't want to live with the things he had done, or didn't do. He had PTSD and was probably facing horrible depression, especially after seeing someone else die to Godzilla and believing it once again to he his fault. He didn't want to make it home after the final battle, and in his mind, Tachibana wouldn't want him to either. It would be easy, in his mind, to convince Tachibana to put in the kamakaze bomb without anyone else knowing, because Tachibana also wanted him to die for his inaction.
That is actually the reason it had to be Tachibana. He says (I think the night before the final battle) that it has to be him so he can make up for his cowardice on the island.
He says that Tachibana's war isn't over either. He felt some sort of kinship with him and felt that if he succeeded in kamikaze he could end both their wars as well
As usual Roanoke has a great capability for empathy and understanding human emotions, or what drives them.
@@MajinObama I'm sure he understands what I said just as well as anyone else and elected to stick to making a joke instead of going into depth about trauma because it's not exactly his wheelhouse. It's also a major problem in modern cinema that people who are absolutely replaceable are treated as irreplaceable because of their connection to the protagonist, which probably led to him talking about it the way he did.

That was it. That was the entire reason for the practice. Because their leaders wanted to shave off monetary costs at the cost of their citizens' lives. It's part of the movie's thesis about coming together as a community and saying FU to government types that don't actually pay the price the common man does with their choices.

OK ill elaborate. The doctrine choice to utilize the "Divine wind" was one made off of mathematics not short changing. Air attacks on US ships already had a near suicidal fatality rate for a pathetic excuse for a hit rate. Kamikaze pilots on the other hand had a much higher hit rate (at least when first adopted) in exchange for a hundred percent fatality rate. As a bonus the K-craft (not a actual term just convenience) could be made from any airframe, had a much higher maximum payload, and only required half the fuel, and didn't require fully trained pilots.
The idea that it was based solely off Bushido is American bullshit. While it certainly was part of the BS sold to K-pilots the Japanese quite frankly didn't have the aircraft to throw away at the Americans without serious thought to their allocation.

It always drives me nuts when people make that claim about him sitting up in the water. I agree there would be some more motion, but other than that I don’t think it would be any problem to be at lower chest level as he’s floating and paddling beneath the surface .
Even more.. It's been confirmed Godzilla has always been able to change his buoyancyat will which is how he stands or walks in water any time in any movies.. It's a consistent thing.

Bit of an asterisk point: it is revealed in the novelization of the movie that Godzilla did already posses his healing abilities, and that what allowed him to survive the bomb in the first place. Even if he didn't, if he survived a nuke why would a 20mm manage the job?
Why can a person get hit by a two ton car and live but a bullet drops them? Yes, the scale is wildly different but the basic principle stands. Piercing straight to vitals is more likely to be harmful than general external force.

It didn't, he survived. It was stated by the creators and maybe in the novelisation that what Godzilla does is akin to reincarnation using his regenerative ability. He did get vapourised by the bomb, but he survived intact enough for his healing factor (essentially) to heal him back up fully. But since the radiation mutated him he could not reform to the same form and instead assumed a bigger more mutated form (similar to a full-on reincarnation). Also, a single bullet will kill less people than a two-ton car can, @@Blasted2Oblivion, a single bullet has more places to hit where the person survives than a car would per area which would likely crush an entire person. Statistically, you are more likely to die in a car incident than a gun assault (which usually involves more than one bullet). Also, a car impact is way more likely to hit vitals, because of a greater impact site. Of course, you can argue that the car didn't directly hit the vitals like how you could avoid the epicenter of a nuke, but then you could have to also apply that to the bullet and the 20mm. Godzilla was within the epicenter of the nuke testing site and was hit by the 20mm at their vitals, and they still survived on both occasions.
I think the dorsal scutes aren't actually associated with the vertibtre. The laser is only fired after they all slam into the "closed" position, which makes me think of it as a sequential, directed demon core.

I think I speak for everyone when I say the scene where Godzilla literally nuked a city was one of (if not the) best scene in all of Kaiju/Godzilla media. And you can tell it was Godzilla's first time doing that from how he admired that mushroom cloud like "ah shit did I do that?"

The piece of paper looking things he's handed is the family photos each of the casualties on the beach had been carrying on them. The other survivor blamed Kōichi's inaction for their loss, so gave him the photos so he would see the families left behind. The photos are just bundled up in some kind of folder or folio or something.
It's not just any backwards plane, it's a J7W, pretty infamous among WWII plane enthusiasts, and the Japanese like to use it, or a variation of it in a lot of their anime, Sky Crawlers is a good example.

@@elkefransisca3747 the J7W was intended as a bomber interceptor and was given an extremely strong engine to allow it to be even faster and perform better at the altitudes it was expected to fight bombers at. It’s infamous because it was a late war “wonder weapon” japan made due to changing war situations

And right before Kong makes contact with Godzilla's head, you can actually hear an explosion. The argument can be made that that could be the sound of the axe making impact, but the fact that everything went white, before the 2 were sent flying in opposite directions, leans more towards the fact that the Axe was just overloaded with energy. Remember, Godzilla had also blown a decently-sized hole all the way through to the Hollow Earth, so he was probably still somewhat supercharged following that blast for a bit
Love the implication that during the ocean scenes Godzilla is treading water like mad to stay above the surface of the water. Calm and sinister on the surface, treading his leggies like a duck beneath.

From what I understand, it has been brought up that Minus One Godzilla, I can't speak for the other iterations, actually does have something similar to a swim bladder, allowing him, to some degree, control his buoyancy while treading water in an upright position.

On a side note... i hate when people think Godzilla couldn't exist irl due to weight and stuff, completely forgetting unique radioactive mutations. Godzilla most likely has something extremely unique to him in order to survive on lamd without being crushed by its own weight. Kinda hard to explain through text alone.
These 'mutations' would have to be capable of magic.
Even if his skeleton was made of titanium it would collapse the moment he moves a muscle.
Even if his muscles were hydraulic rams made from titanium they would destroy themselves under the strain.
Basically, it is literally impossible because of the weights involved.
Think about a skyscraper. They are made from very strong materials BUT they are hollow and they do not move.
The moment you tried to lift a skyscraper and move it around it would crumble.
When something gets 2 times bigger, it weighs 4 times as much but its muscles and bones won't even be 2 times stronger.
If you have a guy that is 5foot weighing 200lbs and make him 10ft and proportional... he will weigh 800lbs but his bones and muscle won't even be twice as strong.
If you make the 10ft guy 20ft he weighs 3,200lbs but his muscles and bones are less than 4 times stronger than the guy that was 5ft.
If you repeat that process you very quickly get into numbers that are ludicrous.
E.g. if the 200lb 5ft guy can lift 100lb... at 160ft he weighs 204,000lbs and can only lift 3,200lbs (his body would literally collapse into mush).

This movie had so many nods and references to old Godzilla movies.
So the infected not GF is gonna end up being Biollante in my head canon.
I have the same head Canon, also Biolantte is one of my favorite Kaijus.
It's important to remember that Shikishima is dealing with not only heavy PTSD, but of tremendous amount of survivors guilt. That is the primary reason why he doesn't advance the relationship. People in those situations have a very hard time for forming long lasting relationships, compounded with feeling they deserve to be punished or they do not deserve to feel happy.

To be fair on his regeneration, the director stated it was what allowed him to survive for millions of years.
The fish according to the novelization surfaced from the deep to kill themselves in fright of Godzilla. But they were gifts to the people of Odo Island as they had a symbiotic relationship with Godzilla through gifting him to. As well, must note this, in the Novel it's stated Godzilla knew Shikishima was in the plan. Him not shoot him was the reason he survived, same for Tachibana.
But to be fair, they aren't specifically told in the movie so we'll just leave the Novel out of this.

You can make fluffy scrambled eggs by:
Cracking 3 eggs into a bowl.
Mix real well.
Heat a pan on medium heat
Butter the pan.
Empty the eggs into the pan.
Grab a spatula and start scraping the egg into the middle.
Do this until until desired fluffiness. Add salt and pepper if needed.

The key to the fluff is by not working the eggs too much while cooking.
