I think these courses will get better with age. Especially since there are already some cool shortcuts found in the new Tour tracks, and even one added to Berlin Byways in This wave. Also there was a balance patch this wave, Dry Bones is a Top Tier character now
I think all your character predictions will come true, but I’m not sure about R.O.B./King Bob-omb. One of the Tour tracks likely to be ported is a track called Piranha Plant Cove, and the track honors Petey Piranha a lot. We might see him as the final character instead R.O.B would be freakin hilarious and amazing to see come back tho 😂
@@Odyssey_Central I'm Surprised You say that because Super Mario 64 is the only 3D Mario Game to not be represented in Mario kart 8. And you've said multiple times that Mario 64 is one of your favorite games. So Who Do you still perfer? King Bob-omb,Or Petey Piranha?
I’d like to point out that you didn’t necessarily describe the novelty of China town in Singapore Speedway. Not only does it change the aesthetic a little bit but the music changes while you’re driving in it. It’s not just a “generic city portion” like you claimed, even if the layout of Chinatown portion is not ecstatic
While I understand how boring it can be for there to be another circuit track in the new dlc, i think that it adds a uniqueness that can't be felt on its own, because with over 60 tracks now, it's refreshing to have some simple roads to drive on, especially if you're a fan of more "realistically" designed courses that tone down the whackyness. Are they my favorite, no, but I enjoy the simple breakup between all the rush.
I actually like DS Mario Circuit a lot, it's an A-tier track for me and is my second-favorite circuit in the game behind Yoshi Circuit and just ahead of Royal Raceway. I like circuit tracks when they're done well and I think it's a pretty common opinion that DS MC is among the best in the series layout-wise, so I'm very happy it made it in. I definitely know that I'm in the minority here, but a good circuit track can be super satisfying to drive on in my opinion
I wanted Bangkok Rush and Singapore Highway when I played them on Tour like a couple of months back. I was very shocked at how fun they were. But I didn't expect to see both of them on wave 4! The other tracks were very fun too. There's something I really enjoyed about Mario Circuit DS. Waluigi Stadium and DK Summit speak for themselves.
Some things I would like to point out that weren't mention In the video. On Bangkok Rush there is a hidden grass shortcut where on the gliding section after the statue in the middle, if you go right and make it over the fence into the grass patch start a drift to the right and mushroom to Skip the turn after the glider section when going normally. DS Mario circuit has a shortcut in the forest section by cutting through the trees. And the gravity paths on Waluigi Stadium are sadly not faster to what the WR found out.
In Tour, Bangkok Rush actually has Inky Piranha Plants, which spit black liquid on the ground, which is basically just oil slicks, but your screen gets covered in ink like from a blooper if you drive through them. Instead you just have the random chompy boys under the bridge on Laps 1 and 3, instead of a brand new enemy type
20:48 Honestly I’ll be real, when you said “you know what’s not solid though..?” I got scared thinking that you were going to say that the music was not good, but when you said that “it’s way TOO good!” I sighed of relief, I liked the music track a lot as well when I played this course for the first time. But honestly I’m super excited for what’s going to happen for waves 5 and 6! 21:29 also this was pretty funny to me
One interesting thing about each wave is it’s like they’ve teased the potential of a feature in each wave and it’s been expanded the next wave. Ninja Hideaway teased decent graphics in Wave 1 (the only bad example I have), but Wave 2 teased anti grav in Sky-High Sundae, while several tracks had it well implemented in Wave 3, Wave 3 teased half pipes with 2 total while wave 4 had 2 tracks that went nuts with them and you could say wave 4 teased the new characters with 1 (Birdo), while, if they release the rest of them per-wave, we’ll get 2 and 3 characters in the next 2 waves.
I always just liked Wii DK Summit but replaying it in this wave made me LOVE it 😭❤️ The music, the snowy setting, the half-pipes, the snowboarding shy guys... like wow that track is so good
Half pipes are my favorite! It used to be a favorite and I think I like it more than all the 96 tracks though I’m not sure because not all has been released yet I always end with DK summit on every vs race because it is so good I use it as a grand ending
I personally hope they add some more battle courses in the later waves, I don't play battle mode very much myself but it would make it much more interesting for the people that do and would give me more incentive to do so myself. If they do end up doing that, my most-wanted picks would be Wii Funky Stadium and N64 Double Deck (even though neither of them are in Tour)
I just noticed, with every wave, the amount of S Tiers in your list (at least initially) matches the wave number Wave 1 only has 1 with Ninja Hideaway, Wave 2 has 2 with Kalimari Desert and Waluigi Pinball, Wave 3 had 3 with Maple Treeway, Peach Gardens and 3DS Rainbow Road (though now Boo Lake is in S), and Wave 4 has 4 with the last 3 tracks of the fruit cup and Waluigi Stadium. If this continues, then Waves 5 and 6 are gonna be phenomenal
Gotta say I only have the Wii U MK8 with the original DLC cups since until now I wasn’t too impressed with the booster courses, but seeing how great these two cups are makes me want to buy the game and courses even with my low bank account. I agree with your S tier picks and I even am really interested in the one you dismissed. Like all 3 city courses impressed me and I have a special place in my heart for DS Mario Circuit so this stacked list of hit after hit might force me to make bad decisions with my money again
Controversial opinion I'm sure, but DS Mario Circuit is my favorite track of this wave. It and Riverside Park are just too fun to race on and the shortcuts and aesthetic are so so good. Honestly I think getting some more simple circuit tracks in these waves is a good thing to help break up the cups and provide variety. I just think the choices have been mid until now. We should have gotten Daisy Circuit instead of Toad Circuit. SNES Mario 3 can stay I guess, and DS Mario Circuit is great so if we had to only get 3 circuit tracks those are the 3 I would have picked.
I’d prefer Mario Circuit 4 over 3 simply because it’s the only one that hasn’t been remade outside of Super Circuit but I respect your opinion nonetheless
I love DS Mario circuit, it is so awesome imo, all the shortcuts (and the skill ceiling on the forest section shortcuts), the music, the aesthetic, so good. Easily one of my top ten tracks.
My top 8: 8: DS Mario Circuit 7: Riverside Park GBA 6: Tour Amsterdam Drift 5: Waluigi Stadium GCN 4: Tour Singapore Speedway 3: DK Summit Wii 2: Bangkok Rush Tour 1: Yoshi’s Island
Finally someone else who enjoys Riverside park as much as I do. I see so many lists have it as a bad course. It may be short but its so fun to drift around and the ptooies are so great.
5:55 oh on the topic of those piranha plants being different, reason that’s the case is basically that those are ptooies, those are enemies I know about well from the new super Mario bros series, and got to say I wasn’t expecting ptooies to be added in this game, but it’s a welcome addition none the less!
The going underwater on the Amsterdam track is probably a reference to how the Netherlands sea level is really high( also there is a joke that saying the Netherlands and Denmark are literally underwater)
Originally, I thought this wave was a step down from 3 but that was mainly due to 3DS Rainbow Road and Maple Treeway's backs hurting from carrying. After a bit, I came to realise these were a great selection. The city courses while still not amazing are probably my favourites so far and in general I don't have any major gripes from the tracks here. I even DS Mario Circuit track layout and music wise even though it was probably the second worst choice for a DS track right behind Figure 8 Circuit.
@Shane Giorgio I agree with Yoshi Falls, however I think I’d prefer Desert Hills over DS Mario Circuit, because its layout is interesting enough so that it makes some sense to add in, plus the only other desert track we have in the BCP is Kalamari Desert (although you could argue Toad Circuit counts too because it feels like a desert playing on it) and while Desert Hills is far from the best desert track out there, I’d still prefer it over another circuit track
@@shanegiorgio4713 Actually, you're right. I was just thinking there could be nothing worse than a circuit track this late into the pass but I could not be paid to care about Yoshi Falls and Desert Hills.
As a sport bike racer and on my best days just an average MK8 player, I love all the Mario Circuits, it’s very cool to race in places that are similar to real circuits. Till watching this video and seeing the comments I though they’re the favorite for everybody .. It’s nice to see that the overall opinion is so different 🤣 That said, I never liked the city ones too
Amazing video, the tracks are so phenomenal, incredible work Odyssey! I'm always looking forward to these videos and I was very excited to see it pop up on my yt
Even after a year, it still feels weird playing the Tour tracks without hearing the combo score going off... Other than that, this wave was great. (Also I just wanted to add on that, according to datamines, DS Mario Circuit is actually the last DS track in the Booster Course Pass... Missed opportunity to bring back Airship Fortress.)
My two cents: 8. DS Mario Circuit - This is a pretty basic track, but the new forest section spruces things up, and the fire piranhas are a decently hard hazard. 7. DK Summit - Not gonna lie, I was a little let down by this track. I love the tight drifting, but the snow patches are annoying, and it feels too short. 6. Riverside Park - It's a short track but a gorgeous one. Ptooies are a very unique obstacle, and I love the new cave and waterfall at the end. 5. Bangkok Rush - The sunset and multiple paths make for a unique city track that's in my top 5 in 8 Deluxe so far. Too bad the ink piranhas from Tour got cut. 4. Amsterdam Drift - I love that we finally have an underwater segment in a city track. Some of the drifts in this track are really fun too. 3. Singapore Speedway - So much aesthetic variety in this one. I love the speed rings, the water geysers, the goombas chilling in the pool, the conveyors, and racing through Chinatown. 2. Waluigi Stadium - We waited an entire year for a Double Dash track and Waluigi Stadium delivers. I love how it looks. It looks better than most base game tracks. The bumpy track, halfpipes, and mechanical piranhas as well as fire bars make for an exciting time. 1. Yoshi's Island - This is such a beautiful homage to the classic SNES platformer. I couldn't help but smile while playing this track. I love how it looks and sounds just like Yoshi's Island. The Yoshi coins and victory jingle are perfect.
I seem to maintain an unpopular opinion about the city courses. With some exception, I think that most of them are great fun in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Anyway, DK Summit is my favorite. I loved this in Mario Kart Wii, and it's just as fun in this game. Yoshi's Island comes very close behind. I'm mildly indifferent to Amsterdam Drift, but love both Bangkok Rush and Singapore Speedway. Bangkok in particular has a banger section with the parking garage. Between all the fun tracks and Birdo now joining the roster, this is a great wave of Booster Course Pass. Nice stuff, Odyssey.
I love the music on riverside park it’s one of my favorites and I was kinda shocked to hear that he thought it was just ok. But I get it, it’s not everyone’s stile of music so it’s fine
DK Summit gameplay wise is worse is 8DX I feel like it doesn’t play as well and isn’t as polished. HOWEVER, the music is amazing and I love how DK finally got his statue 😊
You missed a Really big Shortcut in Amsterdam Drift. Lap 1 in the grassy area on 200cc you can skip the bridge using a mushroom by dashing over the river. It is difficult but very fun to pull off, I'm not sure if it is possible on 150cc but it is a really cool shortcut.
I personally think petey piranha is one of those characters because it has a track in tour called piranha plant cove wich is a underwater temple from petey piranha and els
My personal ranking going purely off of how fun it is to drive on each (I only have played a few MK games before 8, so a Tour track is just as foreign as a Double Dash track to me). I'll only explain my choices if I feel like it: 8. GBA Riverside Park (It's a simple track, not much to say, though some turns are fairly annoying) 7. DS Mario Circuit (Another simple track aestetically, but has some much greater difficulty than the average circuit track as you actually have to break drift on the ending turns) 6. Yoshi's Island (This track is still amazing, please don't hate me. It's just that the others were even more incredible gameplay-wise) 5. Tour Signapore Speedway (The weakest city track in the wave imo, but still incredible and uses the glider very creatively) 4. Tour Amsterdam Drift (Variety is key) 3. Wii DK Summit 2. GCN Waluigi Stadium 1. Tour Bangkok Rush (The feeling of driving on this level does not compare. Every turn, every trick, every shortcut, and every split path was so well excecuted. Definitely a top 3 in the pass for sure)
as someone from the netherlands amsterdam drift represents amsterdam incredibly well Edit: I just noticed when he said blew my expectations out of the water he drove out of the water cute detail odyssey
something i noticed the second i got put in dk summit/ds mario circuit is the fans to the right of the finish line. they're still 2d sprites right next to the player, but not NEARLY as bad as on sydney sprint. just something interesting i saw.
I think it´s important to mention though that Riverside Parks layout was altered quite a bit, reducing the difficulty of the track by a bit. I´d have loved for the sharp turns in the first half of the track to stay.
4:03 this part is the only hard one. You have to align facing right fairly accurately, and then do a hard left drift, in 200cc it's even harder. After that just drive straight through all the roads.
I’m not gonna lie I like all of the circuit tracks there simplicity is what makes them nice especially Mario circuit 3 being one of my fav tracks from Mario wii because of how it drives
You should make a tier list ranking video where you list every intentional and unintentional shortcut and how you like them! It would be very unique and I would love it!
My issue with the Yoshi’s island track is how short it is. Not that it’s a bad thing, I just felt like there could’ve been more done with the references and the shortcut. Especially the shortcut cause it’s so good and it can have a lot of potential. Even outside of the track.
Sky garden was actually a banger in mario kart DS, easily one of the best retro tracks in that game especially since it was otherwise lacking a track with the sky theme
These waves are getting better and better. My only nitpick about this wave is that why did they brought in only one new character in it even though there are 2 waves remaining. What’s next for the other waves? New and returning battle tracks? Updated textures and anti gravity in some courses for the older waves?
My theory is that Nintendo only recently saw people wanting more characters and that they could only get Birdo done in time for wave 4 + it keeps hype up during the middle portion of the DLC
I'm getting pretty worried about game variety so far. Like yeah, WII and GBA have some awesome tracks, but it's mildly worrying waluigi stadium is the so far only GCN track. Also there have been some tracks that genuinely feel like wasted space (toad circuit). I kinda hope we get a few more good tracks from GCN and 3DS
Somebody said that you were putting the Cool Bowser™ video in all of your descriptions. I was not disappointed. Also I'm glad someone agrees that the flowers in Amsterdam Drift® look kinda off. Just the fact that they're huge and all seem copy pasta'd lol. still like the track and that section does look nice and vibrant but yes.
Each wave have had their share of wtf track choices, wave 1 was toad circuit and shroom ridge, wave 2 was Mario circuit 3 and snow land, wave 3 was peach gardens because of the backwards route and wave 4 was Mario circuit because who honestly thought it would come back
Um, actually Odyssey Central, you can do the gap cut on Mushroom Gorge with a mushroom on 150cc but it's harder than 200cc. Also, you don't need a mushroom for the gap cut on 150cc or else you go into the out of bounds area. Just though you should know because I wanted to tell you this just so you know. (But I do wanna say I LOVE your content) :)
I almost wonder if Waluigi Stadium's high quality textures and rendering is because it was intended to be in the base game, but just barely missed the cut, but this DLC allowed them to return it Either that or Nintendo's texture artists and renderers are gods when they want to be XD
Well, here we are. My Wave 4 review. Spoiler alert: there isn’t a single track here I consider weak. Yes, Odyssey, even DS Mario Circuit. Fruit Cup: Tour Amsterdam Drift: While it was never one of my favorites from Tour, like London Loop, it is at least somewhat memorable, unlike LL, and I do like the variety here. Music is good. 8/10 GBA Riverside Park: I really like what they did with this track. It looks gorgeous and the Ptooies are a nice addition. I do prefer Boo Lake, and the music is the weakest this wave. Still solid. 8/10 Wii DK Summit: What can I say? It’s DK Summit. 9/10 Yoshi’s Island: Let’s just say 3DS Rainbow Road has some competition for my favorite Mario Kart track. 10/10 Boomerang Cup: Tour Bangkok Rush: This track was really good in Tour, and while I still like it in 8DX, it does feel like a bit of a downgrade at times, especially in the obstacle department. Like, why are the Inky Piranha Plants not there??? The Fire Piranha Plants are back, and they are functionally the same. Just retexture them and make them shoot inkballs instead of fireballs, or, maybe even PORT THEM IN??? Like what’s happened for the rest of the track? Sorry for the rant. Good music though. 8/10 DS Mario Circuit: I do understand where you’re coming from. I definitely would’ve preferred Airship Fortress or Delfino Square, but after playing it, this is not a bad choice, even with the fact we now have 4 Mario Circuits in the game. As someone who grew up with DS, this makes me happy, especially when hearing the remixed circuit theme from that game. While it’s low on my list now, I could definitely see it rising up in my rankings the more I play on it, and same could be said for everyone else. 8/10 GCN Waluigi Stadium: I think you covered what I wanted to say. 9/10 Tour Singapore Speedway: This was always one of my favorites from Tour, but here in 8DX, it might’ve surpassed Berlin Byways as my favorite track in the game. Not in Tour, btw. Just 8DX. The atmosphere is amazing, the layout is really good, the locations are really memorable, and the music is superb! 10/10 Overall, while I do think that Wave 3 had higher highs, the overall quality of Wave 4 makes this the best wave by far, and the fact that characters are now being added makes me super interested in what’s coming up next. Btw, my character predictions are: Diddy and Pauline for Wave 5, and Funky, Petey, and Kamek for Wave 6.
You actually don’t need a mushroom to perform the DK Summit double at all. I do it by just drifting, and I’ve even overshot it many times. It’s such an easy shortcut. Everyone should be doing it.

We might see him as the final character instead
R.O.B would be freakin hilarious and amazing to see come back tho 😂
Totally forgot about the petey piranha track, yeah I’d replace king Bob-omb with him lmao
@@noahppinkrevailTick Tock Clock is from Mario 64 tho 🤨
@@dillongeorge5866 Don’t think Funky Kong Is gonna make it.
@@noahppinkrevaileven if that’s the case, King Bob-Omb is not gonna be his replacement…
You can actually do the whole DK Summit double cut without mushrooms even in 150cc
Maybe I’m just easy to please but Singapore Speedway might actually be one of my favourite tracks in the game
20:48
Honestly I’ll be real, when you said “you know what’s not solid though..?”
I got scared thinking that you were going to say that the music was not good, but when you said that “it’s way TOO good!” I sighed of relief, I liked the music track a lot as well when I played this course for the first time. But honestly I’m super excited for what’s going to happen for waves 5 and 6!
21:29 also this was pretty funny to me
One interesting thing about each wave is it’s like they’ve teased the potential of a feature in each wave and it’s been expanded the next wave. Ninja Hideaway teased decent graphics in Wave 1 (the only bad example I have), but Wave 2 teased anti grav in Sky-High Sundae, while several tracks had it well implemented in Wave 3, Wave 3 teased half pipes with 2 total while wave 4 had 2 tracks that went nuts with them and you could say wave 4 teased the new characters with 1 (Birdo), while, if they release the rest of them per-wave, we’ll get 2 and 3 characters in the next 2 waves.
fun fact: R.O.B. was the first non-mario universe character in mario kart
Pac man, Mrs pac man and blinky
I always just liked Wii DK Summit but replaying it in this wave made me LOVE it 😭❤️ The music, the snowy setting, the half-pipes, the snowboarding shy guys... like wow that track is so good
Half pipes are my favorite! It used to be a favorite and I think I like it more than all the 96 tracks though I’m not sure because not all has been released yet I always end with DK summit on every vs race because it is so good I use it as a grand ending
I can’t imagine how they would top that😂😂🎉🎉
I personally hope they add some more battle courses in the later waves, I don't play battle mode very much myself but it would make it much more interesting for the people that do and would give me more incentive to do so myself. If they do end up doing that, my most-wanted picks would be Wii Funky Stadium and N64 Double Deck (even though neither of them are in Tour)
I just noticed, with every wave, the amount of S Tiers in your list (at least initially) matches the wave number
Wave 1 only has 1 with Ninja Hideaway, Wave 2 has 2 with Kalimari Desert and Waluigi Pinball, Wave 3 had 3 with Maple Treeway, Peach Gardens and 3DS Rainbow Road (though now Boo Lake is in S), and Wave 4 has 4 with the last 3 tracks of the fruit cup and Waluigi Stadium.
If this continues, then Waves 5 and 6 are gonna be phenomenal
Level by Level is still my favorite series to watch, and I become legit hyped, especially for these Mario Kart videos.
12:18 That save O_O
Gotta say I only have the Wii U MK8 with the original DLC cups since until now I wasn’t too impressed with the booster courses, but seeing how great these two cups are makes me want to buy the game and courses even with my low bank account. I agree with your S tier picks and I even am really interested in the one you dismissed. Like all 3 city courses impressed me and I have a special place in my heart for DS Mario Circuit so this stacked list of hit after hit might force me to make bad decisions with my money again
These courses are available to play online without needing to purchase it (:
I think that one of the “ new “ tracks in wave 5 or 6 could be the rainbow road in the Mario movie
I love DS Mario circuit, it is so awesome imo, all the shortcuts (and the skill ceiling on the forest section shortcuts), the music, the aesthetic, so good. Easily one of my top ten tracks.
i like how you predicted most of the dlc characters accurately, except for rob. seriously though, rob would have been so much better than peachette...
My top 8:
8: DS Mario Circuit
7: Riverside Park GBA
6: Tour Amsterdam Drift
5: Waluigi Stadium GCN
4: Tour Singapore Speedway
3: DK Summit Wii
2: Bangkok Rush Tour
1: Yoshi’s Island
21:52, Petey Piranha is pretty likely as a character as he has a track based on him that is expected to return
17:56
I love this shortcut as I always wanted them to include a shortcut through the halfpipes like in Sonic Riders.
I now have a new favourite track music in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe:
OMG THE ENDING YOSHI'S ISLAND THEME!!!!!!!
Another level by level ==! This series is so awesome and this video was no exception. Keep up the good work!
Bangkok Rush is probably my new favorite Tour Track. At least until they add Vancouver Velocity.
is that a correct prediction i see?
rewatching these now that the entire dlc is out. I love how (nearly) dead on you were with the character predictions.
Music Wise
8 Amsterdam Drift
7 Bangkok Rush
6 Riverside Park
5 Mario Circuit (DS)
4 Waluigi Stadium
3 DK Pass
2 Singapore Speedway
1 Yoshi’s Island
I agree except Singapore speedway and Yoshi island are flipped imo
Thanks Bro
The going underwater on the Amsterdam track is probably a reference to how the Netherlands sea level is really high( also there is a joke that saying the Netherlands and Denmark are literally underwater)
Thanks for even more great content Odyssey, can’t wait for wave 5!
Personally I think Yoshi Falls and Desert Hills are weaker DS tracks than Mario Circuit, but to each their own
@Shane Giorgio I agree with Yoshi Falls, however I think I’d prefer Desert Hills over DS Mario Circuit, because its layout is interesting enough so that it makes some sense to add in, plus the only other desert track we have in the BCP is Kalamari Desert (although you could argue Toad Circuit counts too because it feels like a desert playing on it) and while Desert Hills is far from the best desert track out there, I’d still prefer it over another circuit track
@@shanegiorgio4713 Actually, you're right. I was just thinking there could be nothing worse than a circuit track this late into the pass but I could not be paid to care about Yoshi Falls and Desert Hills.
Being sick at home, your video enlightened me. Thanks!
Yay! I didn't look at the tracks so your video would be the first I've heard from them, and they're incredible!
As a sport bike racer and on my best days just an average MK8 player, I love all the Mario Circuits, it’s very cool to race in places that are similar to real circuits. Till watching this video and seeing the comments I though they’re the favorite for everybody .. It’s nice to see that the overall opinion is so different 🤣
That said, I never liked the city ones too
I can't believe how underrated Bangkok rush is, it's the city with the most variety and people just don't notice?
Amazing video, the tracks are so phenomenal, incredible work Odyssey!
I'm always looking forward to these videos and I was very excited to see it pop up on my yt
Even after a year, it still feels weird playing the Tour tracks without hearing the combo score going off...
Other than that, this wave was great. (Also I just wanted to add on that, according to datamines, DS Mario Circuit is actually the last DS track in the Booster Course Pass... Missed opportunity to bring back Airship Fortress.)
My two cents:
16:41 waluigi was too depressed after being nerfed so he couldnt show up to the studio, so they made luigi wear purple instead.
So glad to finally get a double dash track. I hope we get wario coliseum as well.
It would be cool if they added a WarioWare character in the last spot. It was always weird to me that they didn’t appear in any Mario games.
We need a DK track with the Yoshi's Island detail
There's a DK related track datamined for tour
I love how he never mentions when a track is redisigned in tour first, its always new to deluxe.
he’s a casual player and he wants to appeal to casual players. And he likes to talk “formally” as if his opinions are more factual
I personally think petey piranha is one of those characters because it has a track in tour called piranha plant cove wich is a underwater temple from petey piranha and els
Honestly I kinda wish the statue in DK Summit was of Funky Kong, as well for the name of the track to be FK Summit to boot.
I’ve been waiting for this video, you make awesome Mario kart vids man!
Riverside Park. Finally, grass with texture!
Okay but the banana snipe at 20:24 was godlike
crazy how out of the 5 characters he said would be in the booster course pass, 4 of those indeed made it in
Even though I don’t play Mario Kart, I still enjoy these videos. Keep up the good work!
My personal ranking going purely off of how fun it is to drive on each (I only have played a few MK games before 8, so a Tour track is just as foreign as a Double Dash track to me). I'll only explain my choices if I feel like it:
8. GBA Riverside Park (It's a simple track, not much to say, though some turns are fairly annoying)
7. DS Mario Circuit (Another simple track aestetically, but has some much greater difficulty than the average circuit track as you actually have to break drift on the ending turns)
6. Yoshi's Island (This track is still amazing, please don't hate me. It's just that the others were even more incredible gameplay-wise)
5. Tour Signapore Speedway (The weakest city track in the wave imo, but still incredible and uses the glider very creatively)
4. Tour Amsterdam Drift (Variety is key)
3. Wii DK Summit
2. GCN Waluigi Stadium
1. Tour Bangkok Rush (The feeling of driving on this level does not compare. Every turn, every trick, every shortcut, and every split path was so well excecuted. Definitely a top 3 in the pass for sure)
as someone from the netherlands amsterdam drift represents amsterdam incredibly well
Edit: I just noticed when he said blew my expectations out of the water he drove out of the water cute detail odyssey
something i noticed the second i got put in dk summit/ds mario circuit is the fans to the right of the finish line. they're still 2d sprites right next to the player, but not NEARLY as bad as on sydney sprint. just something interesting i saw.
Waluigi Stadium is fun and great, it became my favorite in Wave 4
U don’t need a mushroom to do the double gap jump in 150cc
When you were talking about the GBA online it reminded me that I bought a GBA like not even 4 months before the games were added
I think it´s important to mention though that Riverside Parks layout was altered quite a bit, reducing the difficulty of the track by a bit.
I´d have loved for the sharp turns in the first half of the track to stay.
15:01 my reaction to Mario Circuit
4:03 this part is the only hard one. You have to align facing right fairly accurately, and then do a hard left drift, in 200cc it's even harder. After that just drive straight through all the roads.
I’m not gonna lie I like all of the circuit tracks there simplicity is what makes them nice especially Mario circuit 3 being one of my fav tracks from Mario wii because of how it drives
You should make a tier list ranking video where you list every intentional and unintentional shortcut and how you like them! It would be very unique and I would love it!
In loving memory of Waluigi wiggler - You won’t be missed
My issue with the Yoshi’s island track is how short it is.
Not that it’s a bad thing, I just felt like there could’ve been more done with the references and the shortcut. Especially the shortcut cause it’s so good and it can have a lot of potential. Even outside of the track.
Same, though I've learned to live with it.
You can actually do the gap jump in DK Summit on 150cc also
Waiting for the wave 5 review so rewatching all the previous waves level by levels
Each wave have had their share of wtf track choices, wave 1 was toad circuit and shroom ridge, wave 2 was Mario circuit 3 and snow land, wave 3 was peach gardens because of the backwards route and wave 4 was Mario circuit because who honestly thought it would come back
I think captain falcon comes as the special character. Because they already released his car and tracks.
the R.O.B dose actually make sense because he was in Mario kart DS and he is the definition of retro.
I almost wonder if Waluigi Stadium's high quality textures and rendering is because it was intended to be in the base game, but just barely missed the cut, but this DLC allowed them to return it
Either that or Nintendo's texture artists and renderers are gods when they want to be XD
The base game was 8 years ago
Well, here we are. My Wave 4 review. Spoiler alert: there isn’t a single track here I consider weak. Yes, Odyssey, even DS Mario Circuit.
Fruit Cup:
Tour Amsterdam Drift: While it was never one of my favorites from Tour, like London Loop, it is at least somewhat memorable, unlike LL, and I do like the variety here. Music is good. 8/10
GBA Riverside Park: I really like what they did with this track. It looks gorgeous and the Ptooies are a nice addition. I do prefer Boo Lake, and the music is the weakest this wave. Still solid. 8/10
Wii DK Summit: What can I say? It’s DK Summit. 9/10
Yoshi’s Island: Let’s just say 3DS Rainbow Road has some competition for my favorite Mario Kart track. 10/10
Boomerang Cup:
Tour Bangkok Rush: This track was really good in Tour, and while I still like it in 8DX, it does feel like a bit of a downgrade at times, especially in the obstacle department. 8/10
DS Mario Circuit: I do understand where you’re coming from. 8/10
GCN Waluigi Stadium: I think you covered what I wanted to say. 9/10
Tour Singapore Speedway: This was always one of my favorites from Tour, but here in 8DX, it might’ve surpassed Berlin Byways as my favorite track in the game. Not in Tour, btw. Just 8DX. The atmosphere is amazing, the layout is really good, the locations are really memorable, and the music is superb! 10/10
Overall, while I do think that Wave 3 had higher highs, the overall quality of Wave 4 makes this the best wave by far, and the fact that characters are now being added makes me super interested in what’s coming up next.
I was shocked when you didn’t mention that DK Summit replaces the Mario statue with a DK one.
