    I took a career assessment test in school once. It recommended a career in science.
    I was very unimpressed, because one of the questions was "would you like a career in science?", to which I had answered "yes".

    I think people misjudge the gift-giving love language. When I buy a gift for someone I am very intentional. I think about what my friend or family member likes, or what is happening in their life currently. I go out of my way to find the perfect gift. I want to be appreciated in the same way- the monetary value of the gift is unimportant, it’s about the thought you put into the gift. 🤷🏽‍♀️

      I'm 0% gift-giving. I don't care as much if you got me the latest iPhone (btw, I really do want it) than if you helped with the laundry. Acts of Service triumphs any gift, no matter how badly I want the item. I can get the item myself any time BUT, begrudgingly, I have to do the laundry for the rest of my life... I hate it.

      Yes! I could go months planning what to give somebody. Also to give things you make yourself! I LOVE baking cookies and putting them in boxes or nice bags, decorating them, making a tiny card to put on the ribbon I'll add to the thing. I enjoy the proccess of thinking of it, planning, gathering ingredients and materials and just giving; I think it's nice.

      Yes! I was just coming to the comments to write this! I find in videos like this that people who are not 'gift givers' often end up with some discussion about "not being materialistic". It would not really mean anything to me if someone bought me a really expensive necklace. But when my friend gave me an elephant she crocheted for me because it's my favourite animal, it made me feel so loved!

    • @lauraodero9675
      @lauraodero9675 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Average Aufa I’m not saying everyone should show love via gift-giving, I’m saying people whose love language is gifts often get mistyped as self-centered or materialistic when that couldn’t be further from the truth. I don’t care what gift I’m given, I just need to know that you put thought and effort into it. That’s how I know I’m loved.

      This is actually something that it's said in the test's disclaimer! You answering the test, the result is the personality of your image of yourself. Someone else answering the test about you, the result is the personality of the image they created of you. What is your true personality? Yours? All? Something in between? Something else? Does it really matter? Does it even exist (or makes sense) to say that there is a true personality?
      I have an opinion on this but I'll let you think first. It's quite a interesting thing to think about!

    • @pawala7
      @pawala7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      The whole thing is heavily prone to self-bias. Everyone is a little bit of everything, so rigid categorizations do not make any sense.
      If it tells you you're "Driven" or "Ambitious", you start thinking about the last new project you did, or that time you tried to make sourdough bread from scratch.
      But if it tells you you're "Laid-back" or "Relaxed", you start thinking about all the time you spend watching TV or playing games.
      Though at opposite ends of the spectrum, many descriptions apply to practically everyone at some point in their recent memory.

      @AlbinoReaper
      Partly. I do think, however, that we also can learn to understand when others are trying to show you love, even when it doesn’t measure up to our own love language. When a child draws a drawing for their parent, the parent feels loved - whether or not gifts are the parent’s love language - because the parent understands that it was out of love. A problem is that we get older and there are many more possible thought we can have against people we know, so we often don’t understand when people are trying to show love, and they get hurt when we accuse them of something else. So, recognizing and taking note of other people’s ways of showing love, rather than just expecting them to love us the way we feel the most loved is something we could work on. However, I do agree that there is sacrificial love (an essential type of love) in trying to meet the other person’s need when it comes to feeling loved.

    • @jonathanm9436
      @jonathanm9436 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@whengrapespop5728 Yes, I think that is right. In 'non-love' environments, like the workplace though, by learning a little about the other people and observing certain markers, I believe it is then quite straight forward to engage them in the way that makes them most receptive and to which they will most likely respond most positively. In a sense it's like feeding them rather than starving them.

      Have you ever heard of Human Design? I've been practicing and studying Yoga for about 3 years now, and was blown away about how this new perspective - which only just became a thing within the last 100 years - is in perfect accordance to the ancient wisdom of Yoga and Avaita Vedanta, while providing something that was often omitted: the mechanics of Maya.
      Human Design accurately maps out the interactions between the various Chakras - and connects this using the I-Ching and Celestial Alignment at the time of birth. This map connects directly to the DNA. So, in essence, the ancient Chinese I-Ching is a metaphor for genetic code and planetary alignment at the time of birth determines the nature of the imprint that person receives. So there's no questions to ask and answer that might prove false.
      I recommend MyBodyGraph.com as the easiest way to get started for free, though my friend actually graduated from the Human Design College (yeah this stuff is under a hundred years old and already has a college dedicated to it) so she does readings and I'm just now begging that process myself, as well as many other people online. One girl, Interior Creature, has really great free resources online.
      I was gonna share this directly to Wheezy but after seeing your comment it seemed fitting :) He'll see what he's meant to.

    The problem is self-assessment. People have a hard time figuring themselves enough to answer objectively. I think we need these tests to start having other types of question which deal more with objective information than opinion. Although I think your assessments might be correct. I'm an ENTP and my bf is an ENTJ, not the same goat but very similar horns.

    Currently I'm following a course where the first module fucusses on yourself. The MBTI test was part of this.
    Most tests are personality tests focussed on how you behave. The MBTI, however, is a character test, it focusses on what you are like behind those behaviours, what you were born with, what you would be like without years of conditioning you behaviour. If you are familiar with nature versus nurture, a personalyty test focusses on nurture whereas a character test, like MBTI, focusses on nature.
    That makes the MBTI impossible to get right on the first go. To get as close as possible, you would need to answer keeping in mind what your natural response is. If you're not sure, you should think about how you would have reacted when you were young, as back then your behaviour was most likely less influenced by behaviour your surroundinga taught you.
    To do the test really correctly, to get to your core, you would then need to spend a few hours with a trained person answering more questions, thinking about the answers, to get to your core.
    When we did the MBTI we spent a day figuring out what we really were. Everybody in the class switched profile after nearly every set of qestions and the end result was never what they got from just taking the test like you guys did.
    I have done a lot of personality tests, online and quickly like you guys, but this course was the first time I really dug into it. For me the MBTI was really an eye-opener once I got to my true character profile. It was alike a lot of stuff fell into place. I understood some things I had been struggling with, where it turned out my taught behaviour was opposite of what my character told me I should do. It really helped me learn a lot about myself and I understand better who I am and where certain behavioir comes from.
    I won't bore you with the details. What I wanted to point out is first the difference between personality (bahviour, nueture) and character (nature) and second that fun as it can be to do these things quickly, for a character test to get to your true character, away from all behaviour you were taught over time, you need to really dig into it, spend a day analyzing yourself, preferrably aided by a professional.

    I learned of the MBTI (Meyers Briggs) about ten years ago, and it has changed my way of seeing myself. I always doubted my place in the world and my capacity and permission to participate. After friends got me on to the MBTI, I learned that I wasn't weird, incompetent, worthy of rejection, but that six percent of the male and 4.5% of the female populations are like me and I simply had a definable personality type - no better or worse. I felt validated and just as competent worthy as everyone else. This discovery explained so much and injected me with a powerful boost of self-belief and confidence that remains with me. I wish i had known this fifty years ago.

    Totally agree with Craig that we only have our own understanding of ourselves, etc. The thing I think gets lost in translation (mostly online) with Enneagram is the difference between finding your type to hammer in "how you are" and using your type to work on yourself, your tendencies, and your blindspots. It's a self growth tool, but that often gets lost.

      Well the Myer's Briggs does work well, when done and gone in the right way. It can be used as a tool to find people similar to you, or to find out how to communicate with others (IF you have trouble)
      The Enneagram helps you find growth and make you aware of yourself.

      I think it's meant to be a tool rather than a gospel. It helps me understand a lot about myself that confused me. It helped me understand my ambiguous weirdness

    I knew there was a reason I liked Chyna so much, I’m an ESTJ too! And my husband is an INFP. Yes to vacuum the floor than buy me a necklace part. My husband recently started dropping of our recycling and picking up our grocery order for me, and I just bask in the glow of one less thing I have to do for our family life to function smoothly. I would like to suggest for next time, the tendency quiz from the Gretchen Rubin podcast/website. This author has discovered 4 personality types and how they respond to inner and outer expectations and how those personalities can improve their communication towards each other when requesting help/favors. Also, maybe for a future video-a happiness project (also a Gretchen Rubin invention), or test out the suggestions in the book Feel Better in 5 and see which “happiness hack” elicits the most bang for your buck.

    I used to work at a resort property in Big Sur, California and the Owners of the property had all of us crew take the Color Code Test and we were all blown away by how right on it was. And it gives you info on how to get along with other 'colors' and how to maximize your strengths and downplay your weaknesses. It was really interesting. It helped me to understand a few things about myself and how I am motivated. I won't spoil anything for anyone who wants to try it out by explaining what any of the colors mean (red, blue, yellow, white) just check it out for yourself!

    Reminds me of the new HR guy employed where I worked as a bookkeeper. He was stunned that my personality test didn’t show what he’d expected - given my role at this company. The results were so even across all personality types, he re- checked his tally. Then told me that he’d never seen it before, in 1000’s of tests he’d done. Hah, what you do to earn money is not WHO you are!

    I'm an ESTJ and an Enneagram 1 like Chyna. :) And my husband has similar results to Craig and we've been married for 29 years, so I think that bodes well for the two of you. :) We took Myers-Briggs way back at the beginning of our marriage, but took the Enneagram just in the last couple years. Never took the Golden Girls test. Oh, and our love languages are opposite, but we've known that for years too and try to speak the other's love language intentionally. Great video!

    i'm so excited for your enneagram results, i've always suspected him as a 7 and her as a 1. By the way, 7's and 1's do share some traits since 1's integrate toward 7 (becoming spontaneous and joyful) while 7's disintegrate toward 1 (becoming critical of themselves and others).

    The only personality test that i know of that has any scientific merit so far is The Big Five Model.

    • @crystle600188
      @crystle600188 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hogan is based off of the big 5 model and is extremely valid

    • @spmil999
      @spmil999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I've found no matter what sort of test one takes, one's mood while testing very much dictates the results.

    • @crystle600188
      @crystle600188 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@spmil999 one of the indicators of reliability and validity is known as test-retest reliability. The Hogan and the big 5 have extremely high test-retest reliability.
      A bad test will not have this trait. The reason why psychologists despise the enneagram and the MBTI is because, as you alluded to, you can take the same test 5 times and get 5 different results

    • @spriddlez
      @spriddlez 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If they make you feel seen or understood they have merit even if they aren't necessarily scientifically accurate/useful/reproducable. Also they can be fun and that has merit too.

    • @pawala7
      @pawala7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because the Big 5 uses a continuous scale.
      MBTI fails because it tries to make strong assumptions about something as complex as personality.
      Like you can't say someone is "A" or "B" since we are all a mix of both, and if the bell-curve applies most people lie near the middle.

    I love when enneagram feels so true that it makes the reader feel embarrassed. It's so powerful.
    Also: you're really only one enneagram type at your core, not multiple, although you might have similarities with other types. Theres one core negative driver that determines the type, that's what makes people feel exposed upon reading it.
