I don't know where your head was at when you gave this review. This movie is tanking in the movie theaters and it's a fantasy it's Fiction it's not true. If you bothered to do your research on Priscilla you would know that Priscilla wasn't the innocent victim. All of Elvis Presley's other girlfriends said he was nothing but a gentleman he never tried to groom any of them or control them. How interesting that Priscilla is the only one that claims that Elvis tried to groom her. The fact that you walked out of this movie feeling a little scared of Elvis that was upsets true Elvis fans because that's Priscilla's true objective. To dismantle the legacy of Elvis while she makes money off of him. And yes this was the Revenge movie Priscilla only cares about money and fame and she always wanted to be as famous as Elvis because without Elvis nobody would even know the name of priscilla. And if you want to know more about Priscilla and the truth just ask me

@@redstar7292 nobody said he was perfect. But to portray him as a pedophile and a groomer is slander.. see you today is getting brainwashed about Elvis and they don't know the truth. Back in the 50s and 60s women dated much younger and got married much younger. My mother was 15 when she dated my father who was 23 got married when she was 18 and she was a virgin and had me at 19. My mother said if you weren't married at 18 you were an old maid. The 50s and 60s were a lot different than today. And even the hairdresser to Priscilla Patty who was friends with Elvis said that it was Priscilla insisted on having her hair high up and tons of makeup. If you read any books which you probably haven't about other women who had dated Elvis Alderman said he was nothing but a gentleman and he never tried to control them or tell them what to wear. Now Priscilla also cheated on elvis. She's far from perfect. Chin affair with a married man whose wife was pregnant. My issue with this review with the movie Priscilla and Priscilla herself is that for someone who claims to love this man so much she constantly bashes him makes derogatory remarks about him and that's not what you do if you truly love someone.

there’s a reason Priscilla wasn’t in Elvis much and why she was so poorly casted. Not only is she something they have to mention with a grain of salt because of the inappropriate age, grooming and abuse, but she’s also an afterthought to these people. She’s something pretty to use and have on Elvis’ arm and emotional support to a fully grown man. The actress chosen didn’t look like her, have her mannerisms or voice, they just casted someone and basically said you’re Priscilla Presley. Cailee and Sofia finally gave Priscilla the opportunity to have her story be told and for that I am eternally grateful.

    • @depper
      @depper 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

WRONG WRONG WRONG. YOU fell for Priscillas scam. For others who have a brain, and like to RESEARCH WITH IT, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
No matter how much you may like Sofia. This one is a DISASTER. Her worst movie yet. Its just BAD (and no - not bad ass). You will NOT KNOW ONE TRUE THING about Priscilla or Elvis after leaving the theater. I promise you.
"There are so many ironies after Elvis' death. For instance, Elvis took definite measures to exclude certain people from his personal estate by leaving everything to Lisa Marie. But due to a strange set of circumstances , including the consecutive deaths of the executors, Vernon and Minnie Mae, the very person he did not want to have control, now does control the estate." --- one of Elvis' best friends, and soprano singer Kathy Westmoreland 1987
Elvis KNEW that Priscilla was a DISHONEST GOLD DIGGER. And so did many people around Elvis. This is a ONE SIDED film OF LIES, COVERING UP HER LIES. Elvis WAS RIGHT:
CREDIBILITY FAIL #1: Priscilla stole from Lisa Marie's trust fund by paying herself $900,000, out of Lisa Marie's trust fund WITHOUT HER KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT!! Total financial damage: $16 million.
CREDIBILITY FAIL #2: It's believed now that Marco Garibaldi/Garcia EMBEZZLED $15 MILION from Lisa Marie's trust fund. Co-trustees Priscilla Wagner Beaulieu and Barry Siegel pressured Lisa Marie to sell 85% of her EPE-shares because it would be financially advantageous for them as trustees of Lisa Marie's trust fund. Never mind Lisa Marie's financial interests!
CREDIBILITY FAIL #3: After taxes Lisa Marie had $45 MILLION left from the sale of her EPE-shares. That money was squandered by Barry Siegel; he invested it in his own company, that went broke. He never paid Lisa Marie back.
CREDIBILITY FAIL #4: After all her uncorroborated accusatory nonsense that Elvis was a creepy child molestor --- she DEMANDS --- IN COURT OF LAW --- TO BE BURIED RIGHT NEXT TO HIS COFFIN SIDE BY SIDE FOR ETERNITY IN HIS BACKYARD.. moving Elvis' beloved mother and fathers resting places!!!! ....... even though she divorced him 50 years ago and has had a child with another man and her own life with other people for half a century.
Priscilla ruined her own credibility when she stole millions of dollars from Elvis trust without her own daughters consent. She stole from her child. She is an untrustworthy gold digger and fraudster.
THE SAD REALITY THAT SOFIA JUST GETS WRONG IN THIS TOTAL FABRICATION FILM: Priscilla Wagner Beaulieu is only interested in being famous and rich. She has exploited Elvis, Lisa Marie and now Riley, Finley and Harper. Priscilla is a narcissist who uses people and then discards them. EPE should boycott Priscilla's strategic fantasy of lies. HOW in God's name or otherwise, can you or anyone else BELIEVE PRISCILLA, or worse support her?
She is attacking Elvis' name and USING HIS LAST NAME (illegally I might add) with NO EVIDENCE. and NO EYEWITNESSES. Come on.

@@paraiso4116 that’s not my point. the point is that they casted Cailee, someone who yes slightly resembles her but mainly embodies who Priscilla was, the essence, the mannerisms, etc. They *see* Priscilla as a person outside of being Priscilla Presley. I’m so glad this movie was made, so many young girls (13-16), have. experienced being pursued and held in the wings by adult “rock stars” or musicians or celebrities, and we always see the headlines and articles about those men but we never hear the stories of these young girls and how their lives were permanently altered. As someone who lived a similar experience when I was 14, this movie helped me come to terms with my own trauma, It really is so meaningful and it’s a shame so many adult men who adore Elvis don’t seem to understand. I think the movie left a little to be desired, but I love how it simply told the story as is, from Priscilla’s perspective, it wasn’t nearly as villain i zing as I thought it would be, and that’s important because it shows how it all felt to her.

I don't know where you got the "We never hear the stories of these young girls and how their lives were totally altered," from. A lot of them built careers from writing books saying "I slept with a rock star."
Like, this story is based off of Priscilla's book. She basically made "I was Elvis's wife and he was a terrible husband and so bad to me. Pay me some money and I'll tell you all about it," into a career. Even back in the 70s young women were basically set for life if they could have a juicy story to tell about a rock star seducing them when they were young, making them do absolutely abhorrent things (the worse, the better) and then breaking their poor little hearts.
It's actually something that was prevalent in the punk scene in the 90s, with male singers basically writing songs telling young girls to leave them alone because they didn't want to deal with teenage girls telling the press how awful they were, but also you had the female singers writing songs about how they WANTED a tragic romance with a rock star. Like, how their fantasy was to be the Nancy to the next Sid Vicious, or the Priscilla to the next Elvis. It's why Seattle grunge musicians were so critical of Courtney Love because she slept around with pretty much any singer who looked like they could be the next great tragic rock n roll star, and then she ended up with Kurt.

That is true, but not all of them do. And even if they did capitalize off of their partners fame, they still got into a relationship with an adult at a young age and that can permanently change someone’s mindset, beliefs, and personality, mostly for the worst. So I think there should be a little sympathy for young girls like that, even if how they react to their relationship isn’t morally correct

@@booboosnack Right. To be honest, I think Hollywood needs to move on from formulaic Wikipedia-esque biopics about hugely famous people that we already know. I think it would be cool if they made movies that were focused a unique and particular chapter in an icon’s life. For example, a Marylin Monroe movie about her friendship with Ella Fitzgerald or Frank Sinatra could have been really special. I think a movie about her acting coaches would have been interesting too (considering how influential they were on her mental health). We don’t need to indulge in an icon’s worst moments to be entertaining. It’s common knowledge. And people’s lives are so much more than that.

My review: I watched the movie. 0/5. The casting is soooo bad that it’s makes the inaccurate storyline just cringy bad from scene to scene. I was shocked that somebody actually approved this to go into theaters. It’s not even TV movie quality- more like freshman student grade from a nepotism C student that got help from a family member. Seriously folks, the story is not true. Zero evidence - there is no person that ever lived and not one shred of evidence that corroborates that any of this ever happened. And Priscilla is clearly lying here. Film was the worst I’ve ever seen in a theater.
None of this stuff probably ever happened. She paints a picture in the movie that Elvis was a creepy child molester - yet tells a judge in real life that she DEMANDS TO BE BURIED RIGHT NEXT TO HIS COFFIN SIDE BY SIDE FOR ETERNITY IN HIS BACKYARD!!!! .. even though she divorced him 50 years ago and has had a child with another man and her own life with other people for half a century. Priscilla ruined her own credibility when she stole millions of dollars from Elvis trust without her own daughters consent. She stole from her child. She is an untrustworthy gold digger and fraudster.

What the movie's missing is an extra scene at the end, where now as a mother with a daughter of her own, she goes back to talk to her parents, like the shoe hanging over her talk with her mom in the kitchen all those years ago finally dropped and she now comes back with her own perspective.
Would've really brought the story full circle.
I immediately liked that this movie is its own thing, not trying to hit the stereotypical "biopic" beats you've seen 100 times. Felt like they were just telling a real relationship dynamic as authentically as they could. And it really worked, the _lack of Elvis music_ throughout, as we just got the highlight reel last year, this movie focused on the type of music that Elvis and 'Scilla would be listening to when he isn't at work.
Overall I respect the hell out of this movie and its approach.

It felt very grounded throughout and while I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, certain scenes coulda benefited from a more expressive choice in color or lighting. For example, there’s a scene towards the end where Elvis and Priscilla are drenched in red light and it really helps with setting the tone/mood of that particular scene and what happens in it. There aren’t too many scenes like that in the film iirc. 9/10 for me tho

Before Priscilla, I didn't know Elvis was abusive. But living in the post-Metoo# era, I'm not shocked. So many people from Cosby to Degeneres ended up not being what they seemed. I'm just disappointed. I'm glad we're now having a discussion about - his victims deserve that. We also need to be reminded to never idolize anyone, because we don't know who they truly are. As a abuse survivor, I found this depiction of abuse/grooming/control to be chillingly accurate. It was almost healing to my own experience to see it so accurate. I hope this film educates people about abuse as well.

No lie: I’ll pay anything to see a fan edit where it combines both the Elvis and Priscilla films so that we can see the full story of both of them on display.
It can be a chance to see both perspectives of how the couple sees each other, without painting the couple as black-and-white, but morally grey….
EDIT: So for those who commented, let me just rephrase. I’m NOT going out of my way to defend Elvis. I know that he did some pretty messed up stuff, and that it should be brought to light. The idea of this kind of movie that I had in mind where you combine both perspectives, is to show sort of a narrative dissonance where we start to look up to the person who is the protagonist of the movie, but only until they start doing something that with the audience would find disgusting, would start a question why we looked to this person. And whether the “villain” ends up winning in the end, becomes meaningless as we see that nobody comes out on top of this.
I think I go to example that did this right, was Oppenheimer. Where we are shown, Lewis Strauss’s antagonism of Oppenheimer is what leads to the conflict of the story. But, the story goes out of its way to show that it would be foolish (even a bit ignorant) to place this all on Strauss’s shoulders, and relieve Oppenheimer of his own actions. As we witness, Oppenheimer doing some very disgusting actions that we were still in the wonder whether we should look up to a guy like this or not.
This is something, not only in bio-pics, but even was criticized when we look at mobster/crime movies and shows like the Godfather, Scarface, the Sopranos, and Breaking Bad. The creator of the Sopranos criticized the audiences for supposedly looking up to someone like Tony. But seeing as the finale was running along, that they wanted to see him suffer a horrible death in the end, called the the audience hypocrites for saying this. Even though, as the show depicts, a character, like Tony should not be looked up to, and whether his enemies come after him, really wouldn’t matter as he’s no different than they are.
Therefore, the idea of combining both Elvis and Priscilla movies, will show that dissonance when Colonel Parker is revealed to be conning Elvis out of his fortune and still wants more, that when Elvis confronts him and says how he’s the bad guy in all of this, when Parker gives him that “we’re no different” monologue, we kind of realize that he’s not wrong. And leaves us questioning whether anyone will win in the end, let alone want to see anyone win at all.

99% of the people defending Priscilla in the comments here HAVE NO IDEA WHO PRISCILLA WAS and HOW BADLY SHE HAS LIED about Elvis AND WHY.
THE BOOK was REVENGE. Lisa Marie verified that the book and films WERE LIES, REVENGE to purposefully paint Elvis in a bad light. VERY INTENTIONAL because Elvis EXCLUDED HER from his will. WORSE, Priscilla is a liar and a THIEF rendering her CREDIBILITY IN SHATTERS.
I read the book. Complete fictional account of herself, her family and Elvis Presley. We have learned MUCH MORE about her since. Naturally, none of THAT will be in this movie.
SOFIA LEFT ALL THIS OUT OF HER PHONY GOLD DIGGER FILM, from my RESEARCH:
MOST OVERLOOKED FACT: PRISCILLA WAS THE PREDATOR and Elvis the victim from the very start: PRISCILLA was offering her body around the army base and in fact screwed a man on the army base who granted her access with her to the party Elvis was at. Elvis had no idea who she was and it was PRISCILLA that F'd a grown man at the age of 14 VERY WILLINGLY just to be LET IN TO A PARTY TO MEET ELVIS. Credible details are that SHE INTRODUCED HERSELF TO ELVIS and they SPOKE briefly about the shocking passing of Elvis' mother which devastated him. He was still in mourning. There is ZERO EVIDENCE that ANYTHING inappropriate HAPPENED verbally or physically. Not ONE EYEWITNESS or photo corroborates Priscilla's tale.
NEWEST DETAIL: Lisa Marie came out to Sofia Coppola that she was planning to COME OUT AGAINST HER MOTHER right before she died! We have the emails now. She labeled the Elvis & Me book A REVENGE PROJECT (most likely because Elvis removed her from his will for good in 1977 for now VERY GOOD REASON) and that it INACCURATELY portrays Elvis. In other words SHE LIED ABOUT EVERYTHING.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 1. Priscilla met Elvis AFTER she had intercourse with Elvis' friend, Currie Grant. At that moment she was not a virgin anymore. When Elvis was back in the States, Priscilla had several boyfriends and slept with them. Priscilla was very flirtatious. It is rumored that she was sexually abused by her violent alcoholic stepfather Paul Beaulieu. Priscilla let Elvis believe that she was an innocent virgin but in reality, she was a liar and a manipulator, who was addicted to attention because she always was her mother's little princess.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 2. Priscilla's parents encouraged her relationship with Elvis because they were starstruck and wanted status and money. When Elvis was back in the States they discouraged Priscilla from dating with boys in Germany. Her mother, Ann Iversen, pushed Priscilla to write love letters to Elvis, who occasionally called Priscilla and was back with girlfriend Anita Wood. It was Priscilla, ordered by Ann, who begged Elvis to invite her to the US and it was her parents who forced Priscilla to move to Graceland although she wanted to stay in Germany with her then-boyfriend.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 3. She was not in love with Elvis Presley, but with her boyfriend Jamie. While at Graceland, Priscilla's only goal was to get married to Elvis and then divorce him and take him out like a goose for her own financial benefit and that of her parents. It was no coincidence that Priscilla was sent to the US. months before her 18th birthday, months before her graduation from high school and months before the Beaulieu-family returned to the States. By sending their daughter away to live with Elvis before her 18th birthday the Beaulieus had the means to blackmail Elvis.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 4. Elvis was constantly asked by the Beaulieu-family when he was going to marry Priscilla as he had promised when Priscilla came to Graceland. Elvis was eventually blackmailed into marrying Priscilla by Priscilla's father Paul Beaulieu and Tom Parker.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 5. As soon as Priscilla and Elvis were married, their relationship deteriorated because Priscilla stopped being the demure innocent woman she played before the wedding and became demanding and critical of everything Elvis did. Soon after Lisa Marie was born Priscilla started cheating on Elvis, first with a dance teacher and later with a karate instructor. Elvis realized that Priscilla didn't love him and probably never had.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 6. After the divorce, Priscilla and Lisa Marie lived in a house that exposed not a single photo of Elvis Presley, the man, Priscilla claims, is the love of her life. Elvis certainly didn't believe her. In her book Elvis and Me, Priscilla seems to depict herself as the innocent victim of a bad man, Elvis Presley, but in reality, it is the other way around. It was Elvis Presley, who was manipulated and exploited by Priscilla and her parents. You don't publish negative books/films/interviews about the "love of your life".
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 7. When Elvis had died, Priscilla was overheard telling her half-sister Michelle, giggling, that everybody thought she was crying behind her sunglasses but in reality, she was laughing. Priscilla thought she would inherit from Elvis but she did not. Elvis removed Priscilla from his will in February 1977 and left everything to HIS DAUGHTER Lisa Marie.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 8. Priscilla tried to challenge the will BACK THEN but to no avail. ONLY AFTER Elvis' death, did Priscilla IMMEDIATELY resume the use of the profitable surname PRESLEY to promote herself. ** Elvis forbade her in the divorce agreement to use his name but Priscilla has no respect for Elvis' wishes. **
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 9. Priscilla stole from Lisa Marie's trust fund by paying herself $900.000,-- out of Lisa Marie's trust fund without her knowledge/consent. Total financial damage: $16 million.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 10. It's believed now that Marco Garibaldi/Garcia embezzled $15 million from Lisa Marie's trust fund.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 11. After taxes Lisa Marie had $45 million left from the sale of her EPE-shares. That money was squandered by Barry Siegel; he invested it in his own company, that went broke.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 12. JUST FOUR DAYS after the funeral of Lisa Marie Priscilla challenged Lisa Marie's will from 2016 that removed her as trustee and placed Riley and deceased Benjamin in her seat. Now Riley has agreed that she will pay Priscilla $1.4 MILLION,-- and a guaranteed yearly allowance, during 10 years, to stop her from challenging Lisa Marie's will. Priscilla is also paid subtrustee over 1/9 of the Presley-estate that halfbrother Navarone Garbaldi gets. In a will, that Lisa Marie drew up in 1993, when she was 25, she left, in case of death, 1/9 of her estate to Navarone whom she then adored but when Lisa Marie died she had broken off all contact with Navarone, who publicly scolded her and wished her dead.
CREDIBILITY FAILURE: After all her uncorroborated accusatory nonsense that Elvis was a creepy child molester --- she DEMANDS --- IN COURT OF LAW --- TO BE BURIED RIGHT NEXT TO HIS COFFIN SIDE BY SIDE FOR ETERNITY IN HIS BACKYARD.. moving Elvis' beloved mother and fathers resting places!!!! ....... even though she divorced him 50 years ago and has had a child with another man and her own life with other people for half a century.
CONCLUSION: Priscilla Wagner Beaulieu is only interested in being famous and rich. She has exploited Elvis, Lisa Marie and now Riley, Finley and Harper. Priscilla is a narcissist who uses people and then discards them. EPE should boycot the Priscilla-movie.
      * AND NOW YOU LEARNED MORE ABOUT ELVIS AND PRISCILLA's relationship than ANYTHING you'll learn in this Sofia bust. LETS SEE THE REAL MOVIE ABOUT ALL THIS SOFIA!!!!! Not Priscilla's strategic fantasy of lies.

I felt the same way, I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it's got all the pros and cons of sofia coppola's work: pacing and momentum. At the point where Priscilla actually experiences a true change of momentum, the film ends. I feel like she got a bit caught up in her 'sofia coppola moments' -- zoom ins of diary writing and nail-painting, quiet fixations on dreamy, cloistered girlhood being wooed by boyish, physical men-- for the first half, or three quarters, or so. I think the shortest montage of the movie is Priscilla 'finding herself.'

My one critique is that it did feel a bit rushed towards the end and I totally agree with you when you said you thought there'd be at least 30 more minutes. It lingers on her time as a teenager in Germany and her move to Graceland for a good chunk of the runtime and then condenses her graduation and her adulthood (especially in the 70s) to even less than that.
Production and costume design were amazing as expected. Can you believe the set designers had to make higher ceilings to accommodate Jacob's height?

I saw this a couple of weeks ago.
As an european who obviously knows Elvis' music but not really anything more about his life or the relationship with priscilla (unlike most americans I learned through this movie), I had a different perspective on this.
Not having a preformed, biased picture of Elvis in my head, I was shocked how this movie handles the age difference and the blatant abuse in the relationship. At times during the movie I was in disbelieve how Coppola handles those topics, considering she is known for her female perspectives and somewhat feminist viewpoints.
Coppola, as you said, directs this as a classical biopic/ nuanced relationship drama, however I think the events depicted in this are not really nuanced. A 24-year old man making romantic advances on a 14-year old and being both psychologically and sometimes physically abusive to her is just really terrible. On the script side, the connection through both characters being homesick is just really weak to balance out the amount of toxicity in this relationship. I also did not like how emancipating moments are being relativized, such as playing "I will always love you" when she finally leaves him.
Watching this movie, I was actually very shocked how glorifying this still feels towards Elvis (perhaps with some more thought not really for his person but rather his star-lifestyle) considering all the abusive elements of his relationship.
Obviously being critical of such a beloved figure is quite hard and depicting a star in a somewhat negative light is really bold. But I cannot help but wonder how this movie would have been viewed without the names attached, if this were just another relationship drama without beloved stars portrayed. In your review aswell I realized how prior knowledge changes the viewing, as you often compared this to the Luhrmann film.
I can however agree with your opinion on all the technical stuff. The sets, costumes and cinematography were really good. The acting was good, but I thought the script was all over the place, so they had a really hard time making the lines work.
I read a lot of reviews of this movie and I feel like the depiction of their age difference aswell as the huge amount of abuse in their relationship have really not been talked about enough.

Unfortunately, from what I gathered from interviews with Priscilla, she doesn't see Elvis as the obvious predator he was. And its unfortunate, but no one can influence a person if they simply don't feel they have been victimized. Maybe she will realize it later, maybe she won't but it's just an unfortunate case of how some victims, whether to cope with the trauma or something else, often block it out in their mind and dont see themselves as victims sometimes.

I am way more interested in the way Coppola portrays abuse and toxicity as topics independend of the particular people involved.
I think what Priscilla is thinking of Elvis and their relationship nowadays is only important for this debate because it influenced this movie (since it is based on her book and she produced it).
This movie is downplaying abuse in a relationship. In my opinion thats not good and should be critizised and talked about more.

I actually prefer when biopics choose to focus on a snapshot in time of the person’s life instead of a whole picture. When you get a specific timeframe or aspect of their life, you get to learn a lot about the person by seeing how they are through something that’s important to their story. When it focuses on someone’s life as a whole, it starts to feel like a Wikipedia article put to film, you stop seeing this person come to life as a fully fleshed out character and instead are treated to two hours of “look at all the interesting stuff this interesting person did! Isn’t that interesting?”

There are really big problems with the movie "Priscilla" but none of them are the fault of the actors. What my issue is with the film is that if you are not a super fan of Elvis and/or haven't read "Elvis & Me" at the very least you will not know everything you need to know to actually understand what you are seeing and ESPECIALLY the reason(s) why you are seeing it.
I want what I am saying here to be understood and not just taken as me making excuses for Elvis' behavior. I think that ALL of us have acted in ways that we are not proud of, or had friends and family members that may have done some awful things in the past or even in the last five minutes, but these things do not define a person by themselves. In addition, the closer we are to the person and know the personal history the more insight we have into what may be going on inside of a person to drive their behavior - good or bad.
Jacob Elordi did a phenomenal job given what he had to work with and the amount of time he could take a crash course into understanding the character he was portraying. He had a month or two of preparation and approx 30 days of shooting versus Austin Butler having nearly three years to basically live each day as though he were Elvis, so I can't really compare the two films to each other. Baz Luhrmann's film only touched on the private Elvis and most of that was devoted to the years of his rise to fame. So Jacob did a great job playing a character that he only knows a limited amount about and did his best to bring him to life with the script that he had. I heard earlier today from someone else describing it as though his Elvis is a cross between James Dean and the character Jethro Clampett from "The Beverly Hillbillies". So it is like the guy is not really all that intelligent or caring about much of anything - super aloof. Anyone who is a fan and has read the books, EVEN PRISCILLA'S knows that he was anything but aloof.
In the end, we never get any sense of the LOVE that these two people actually had for one another - we see very little positive between them so when she drives away in the final scene there was no actual feeling of the sadness that no doubt was there. The miniseries ELVIS & ME does a much better job of giving us the big picture while showing basically the same amount of negativity from Elvis - even though neither of the actors portraying the characters are in the ballpark of the two in this film.

She lived every young teen girl's dream...to have a romantic relationship a teen idol. But it shows the reality of what that means.
I thought so much of the movie was great, but did not find the ending very powerful. I was also wondering if the movie was going to end at Elvis' death.
Then realized it may have not ended there, because this was her story of freedom. But I think you can still tell that story of how she moved on without him and finds out about his death. I am proud that Priscilla left the relationship. So many women in toxic relationships stay. Elvis himself became a world-wide sensation at such a young age. He could have anything he wanted and people allowed it. Doesn't make it right, but it helps you to understand. It was also a different time. It was much more chauvinistic back then.
A lot of people say her parents should have not let her live with Elvis, but then Priscilla would have wondered the rest of her life what would have been? Even though she eventually left and found her way, I don't think she regrets any of it. She even wants to be buried next to Elvis.

Honestly, the movie has its moments and the idea behind it is great. But, I can’t say it’s a good movie. There were so many chances for impactful moments and Coppola just brushes over them to find more runtime for the twelve hundred montage of supposedly happy Priscilla. You don’t see her growing and can’t relate, when she finally decides to leave. Because again it’s only shown in a montage. The most interesting point in the movie. A badly done montage. I really wanted to like it, but unfortunately it didn’t perform very well for me.
Also little point: Yes, Priscilla is almost not in the Elvis movie, but that is because the movie essentially isn’t about Elvis but his manager. Priscilla didn’t have a lot to do with the business part of his life (as is clearly depicted in this movie), so it wouldn’t make sense for her to have a more prominent role there.

I haven’t seen Priscilla, but I do want to say this about the Elvis movie:
While Luhrmann’s film was flashy and frenetic, I don’t think it gets enough credit for actually having a point, as opposed to biopics that are content to be feature-length Wikipedia entries. The film weaved numerous aspects of Elvis’s life into a coherent whole (how him wanting to lift his family out of poverty led him to mistake luxuries for love later in his life, how him making vital art required him to engage with the world around him and how he stopped doing so when the Colonel sealed him off from the world, etc.).
I understand commenters who feel that Priscilla wasn’t fleshed out enough in the film; I do think that her role was the one thing in the film that did sorta feel like rote biopic fare. But if the film had delved into the more problematic aspects of their relationship, it probably would have detracted from the story that the film was telling rather than added to it.
I’m not against the idea of a film that explores the darker side of their relationship at all; I think that’s a perfectly valid film to make. But to me, the story Luhrmann told was also valid, and the idea that it should have included things that would have detracted from it is, I think, part of why we get biopics that ultimately don’t really say much of anything.

Luhrmann's film to me is about Elvis the American myth and I think it's goal is to make up understand what the frenzy around Elvis was. Coppola's film is about the reality of him through Priscilla's eyes and it's goal is to show us how Priscilla's viewpoint of world and Elvis.

Priscilla stole from Lisa Marie's trust fund by paying herself $900,000 annually, out of Lisa Marie's trust fund without her knowledge/consent. Total financial damage: $16 million.
PRISCILLA LIE NUMBER 10. It's believed now that Marco Garibaldi/Garcia embezzled $15 million from Lisa Marie's trust fund.
EPE should boycott the Priscilla-movie.

I suppose your point being is they were both Kings. I see what your getting at, but Aristocratic marriages in fuedal countries were financial and political alliances, that were dynastic and arranged. They also had a lower life expectancy hundreds of years ago. Elvis wasnt old money, he was a product of his working class environment and culture. Who became a huge success as an entertainer.

What was missing is that Sofia is HORRIBLE at adapting screenplays. The movie falls apart in the second half. The editing is what I feel was the downfall of the film, especially all the montages at the end which leads her to not be able to explore the characters arc and the showed the dissolution of their marriage more.
I think I am mostly surprised that Priscilla Presley was the Executive Producer of this movie because her character is made to be one dimensional and static. And I disagree about Cailee Spaeny, while I feel like she probably followed exactly the direction Sofia asked of her, her performance was eclipsed by Jacob Elordi's portrayal.
My other issue was with some of the creative decisions Sofia made. Since settings are so important to Sofia's storytelling, she did very little to show Graceland beyond the bedroom and living room. Perhaps that was deliberate to say Priscilla was trapped behind this golden cage but does nothing to her character development and why she stayed with him. Other than she was groomed.
The ending was undeniably beautiful. I know that Dolly Parton’s I will Always Love you must have been very expensive but felt squandered on such an underwhelming portrayal of Priscilla .

I actually disliked the film. I didn’t like how while it was marketed as a more honest look at elvis and his controversial relationship, it still watered down alot of his other deplorable acts toward pricilla.
it felt more like a love story instead of a factual story about a predator/manipulator and his doll/girlfriend who he treated like an object. why bring on Elordi if your going to water down the toxicity?
Maybe its on me for not liking it because i researched the relationship before seeing the movie. but if I didn’t research I wouldn’t have picked up on alot of the situations the movie hinted at but didn’t discuss or show, nor would I have understood the context behind many scenarios that were rushed through.
it made me wonder what kind of audience was this movie made for? someone who knows an honest depiction isn’t being shown to them, or someone that doesn’t fully understand the characters motivations or the meanings behind extremely subtle scenes? it really frustrated me.

    • @69dingdong
      @69dingdong 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

all in all, I think all the times the movie misrepresented or completely ignored historical facts ultimately hurt this movie. and it’s upsetting to know that this movie chose to focus more on glitzy commercial-esc fun and happy scenes over the serious situations and topics this movie promised to deliver. it felt dishonest, and like I was being feed propaganda in the middle of a serious biopic.
And this is probably due to Priscilla Presley herself being an executive producer of the film- who has her own motivations for not wanting Elvis represented as the controlling abuser he was, and to water down the abuse.

    • @69dingdong
      @69dingdong 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

examples of what i’m referring to,
      SPOILERS:
Coppola completely misrepresented the LSD scene, which was a decision that i felt was a massive lost toward further character development of Pricilla. Their trip wasn’t the typical colorful and fun experience that was depicted in the movie, what actually happened according to Larry Geller (who was there):
"Elvis didn’t take his full dose and never tried LSD again. But it was Priscilla’s reaction to dropping acid that made an impression. According to Geller, Priscilla freaked out and ran from mirror to mirror screaming that she was ugly, and then she sobbed at Elvis’ feet that he really didn’t love her."
I just don’t understand why Coppola would opt to not only pass on a scene that could further illustrate the turmoil of the relationship, but to actually include the LSD scene and deliberately misrepresent the actual event?
Also for those confused on why Elvis attempted to SA Pricilla, it was because Pricilla admitted to having an affair with her karate instructor- oh and Elvis actually did SA her after she admitted that. Elordi even said the quote Elvis said while he SA’d her.
Personally, I’m not opposed to Coppola changing the SA to an attempted SA, but at the very least she could’ve given Pricilla the dialogue of her admitting to the affair because in the film it just comes off as Elvis just attacking her for no reason.

Elvis' generosity in building ST JUDES CHIDRENS HOSPITAL has been one of the world's greatest gifts of all time. That hospital has saved millions of childrens lives and doesnt ask for a dime to this day. Elvis' action in taking the polio vaccine on TV ended polio on American soil just a few months later. Elvis got through to the youth before even the government or schools or churches could. Elvis would pay off peoples houses, cars and education. He would help bury veterans if the family couldnt afford. He died almost penniless because of his generosity.
Priscilla's claim to fame is writing a book and 2 movies accusing Elvis of crimes -but provides no evidence. Crimes that could not of gone undetected because Elvis was surrounded by throngs of press and band mates and staff THAT WOULD HAVE LOVED to rat him out for money after his death. Not one of them had a single shred of evidence, not even a photo, that shows Elvis having ANY interest in her before they started dating when she turned 18.

I thought the cinematography and performance of its leads was easily the films biggest strength. My main issue with this movie is I felt the pacing was way too fast. It felt like it stayed a bit too close to the structure of a book, just seemed to go “and then this happened.” The movie was barely over 2 hours, I feel like it could have used more time to breathe between all the sudden time skips

Isn’t it funny how she always changes her story. It’s beyond ludicrous people take her seriously. I’ve seen articles where Priscilla stated she LOVED makeup especially eye makeup it bothered her that Elvis never said anything. Priscilla left Elvis cause she had an affair with Mike stone and he wasn’t her first affair so can we skip the claim that she was this poor innocent girl. She’s a scam
She had a boyfriend in Germany when she left there. Priscilla would be no one without Elvis and she knows it that’s why she kee dragging herself into the media to proclaim her love for him…. What about the man she lived with for 20 years, the father of her son. It’s funny how her supporters claim her mission have been to save Graceland. Please 😂😂 If people WOULD DO THEIR RESEARCH they’d quickly learn Priscilla has been publicly cutting Elvis down for years claiming he was the love of her life. Now it wasn’t her idea to turn Graceland into a museum it was the BANK TRUSTEE 😂
And what gets me is that Priscilla says she left Elvis so she could find herself. And when she cheated with Mike Stone who hade a pregnant wife and a little child and how Lisa caught them and saw them “wrestling” no one wants to talk about that.
Then she leaves, dates Mike, Elvis dies and now she’s using the Presley name.
If she wanted to be her own person why stay so connected? And now she wants someone to be moved in able to be buried as CLOSE as she can to the “love of her life”
In the book she said elvis didn’t make love to her after Lisa but in a much newer interview she said they were still passionate and that he still had sex with her a lot.

FAILURE @ the BOX OFFICE: At 14 days of release and it is STILL under $10 Million at the gate. Baz' ELVIS, which was based on Elvis' actual Graceland archives and actual childhood friend SAM BELL, and other interviews and evidence, scored $32 MILLION ON ITS OPENING WEEKEND. And by the final showing, $288,670,284 Worldwide (That's over a quarter of a $BILLION).
The film FAILS to paint Elvis as a predator or groomer because there is absolutely NO EVIDENCE offered to ANY of it, and the viewer is left with the lonely prospect of believing Priscilla. Unfortunately, Priscilla has proven untrustworthy and inconsistent on this very topic over the years, most notably being exposed for stealing MILLIONS OF DOLLARS from her own daughter, without her knowledge. Money that ELVIS earmarked for his daughter Lisa Marie before he died. EVEN LISA MARIE DID NOT BELIEVE HER MOTHER.

Pricilla is still alive so, it’s not like she can play around with the character fully. She’s alive right? I probably should have double checked. She also has to go by the information that is already out there with her biography etc.
With some of her other movies she’s basing the characters off of herself especially in her early work I think, so it has that certain extra essence of realism, since in that way she is able to paint a full figure. That’s just my personal opinion since the characters were all so similar in a specific way that is uniquely Sofia.
I just watched a vogue outfit interview with Pricilla and I think she’s kinda wooden as you described her being portrayed. So maybe that IS realistic. Maybe Sofia thought the character would stray too far if she deviated from that specific image? Now that I see how Priscilla acts I see why some choices were made for Sofia in that regard I mean.

There is NO EVIDENCE of that, and plenty of evidence to the CONTRARY. Priscilla STOLE MILLIONS FROM HER DAUGHTER, money that ELVIS EARNED and gifted to LISA MARIE PRESLEY and her children, ------> NOT PRISCILLA WAGNER.

I'm really interested in watching this movie bc it has a really complicated background before you even start to watch it. I think a lot of the discussion around it has revealed a lot of weird ideas about victims, and its quite weird the amount of people who expect Priscilla to automatically know what happened to her was bad even though she had a long relationship with her. It seems like this movie is in part wrangling with that, which is where some of the messiness comes in (she knows he was a bad person for going after her as a young woman, but its hard to reconcile that with her life?).
I also really liked Elvis, so I'm excited to watch a narrative featuring the same people but from a completely different perspective and compare and contrast how both directors approached things.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
Come on.

but to the op as a child abuse victim myself, i totally understand being groomed to accept (and even come to expect, enjoy or see abuse as normal) and seeing your abusers through rose coloured glasses.
so even when you consciously know that what has happened is wrong, you still feel loving feeling towards them, which makes it so difficult to walk away. and that’s if they even consciously registered that was has happened is wrong. especially when the victim is a child (aka 14), living in a misogynistic society and all she knows is this.

The movie is all about Elvis because the exWife left him to find herself, then spent the next 55 years promoting herself as a Presley, and their relationship as something it wasn't.
Her own story could be quite compelling.
