    I just got out of a screening for this and I personally interpreted the cannibalism as a metaphor for addiction whether drugs, alcohol, or other. There’s a huge emphasis on parents and, specifically, how their “cannibal trait” is passed down to their children, similar to how addictions can be as well. Addictions come with urges that are insurmountable and must be satisfied which is pretty much the same as what the cannibals experience. Then, we have the Stuhlbarg scene and especially his buddy. His buddy was an outsider who was partaking in the cannibalism of his own free will, just like how people can drink or do drugs socially. They come and go as they please while those that depend on substances (or tasty human snacks) look on with disdain of those who willingly take the risk of addiction for their few moments of pleasure.
    Whether the metaphor is there or not, it’s a solid movie that blends romance and horror impressively. Excited to see what comes next from Guadagnino!

      @Jack13001 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      I dunno, I’m really uncomfortable in general with the whole “sexy serial killer” trope. I think it’s a pretty inappropriate metaphor for addiction given they literally murder people in the movie- a huge departure from how addiction actually affects those around you. It just feels icky to me to try to get me to empathise with the poor tortured souls of the victimisers and not the victims. I find it even more gross that the movie also often makes a point of Maren’s supposed humanity, as she frequently feels remorse for her actions ( but not enough remorse to put herself in a position where she cannot harm other innocent people) as a tool to get us to empathise with her.

However, despite their best efforts, all roads lead back to their terrifying pasts and a final stand that will determine whether their love can survive their differences."

    Bones and All tells the story of a cannibalistic couple and how they basically hunt for their own prey (a.k.a human beings). Seems like this is Luca Guadagnino's riskiest movie to shoot. There's obviously blood, gore, and guts, but it can get out of hand. For those easily repulsed by anything of the sort, do yourself a favor not to watch this film, unless you're willing to endure its own nature.

      YES! I had an incredibly spiritual experience watching that film - tears, awe, utter horror and shock, love, community, dance, Thom Yorke, Tilda Swinton. It has the lot. It changed me as a person and a creative (my dj name is Mother Markos!) - it's a travesty that it was discounted as a 'remake'. It's a deeply emotional and tender piece of work.

    I went to see Bones and All a couple days ago and I was completely overwhelmed - for the first time I came out of the theatre shaking and trying to breathe so I wouldn't break down weeping. I am a huge fan of Luca's work - Suspiria was a personal reckoning in a lot of ways for me. Bones and all literally seeped into my bones and is still residing there. One of the most physical and cathartic viewing experiences I've ever had - from nearly shouting at the screen near the end to sinking so deep into my seat just to get dafuq away from one horrific scene. I could talk about every aspect of this film, the style and the techniques - I just absolutely fell in love with it and the risks it was taking. Best film of 2022 so far for me.

    Saw this last night. It’s probably one of the most unique movies I’ve ever seen. I will admit, I got sucked into every bit of this. The horror, the romance, the suspense. I think with this movie does best is that we don’t get many outside perspectives, so we get to see the world through the eyes of the cannibals. And it’s extremely gruesome and horrible obviously, but if you take their struggle at face value, it’s fascinating to watch

Now as I just got back home from the theatre, I think about some scenes and it makes me emotional and they are some scenes that I want to see again....I really want to watch it again and again . I LOVED IT. Taylor was excellent in Waves but here she was even more excellent if that was possible; She has a very bright future in the industry. IMO this is top 2 one of Timmy's best roles. I dont understand why he is so overlooked so far with nominations when he was so incredible here. This role is on par with his role in Beautiful Boy which imo was his best role to date...that's how good he was here. Mark Rylance seriously deserves a nod for best supporting at the Oscars. Also the song...you made it feel like home...just tears when I think back to that scene. This song needs to be nominated also. Great review and I cant wait to watch it again.

But at the end of the movie, I turned to the person sitting in the seat nearest to me and asked them "so did YOU get anything out of that?". I've been thinking about it since I saw it last night and I just don't understand... Was I supposed to relate to the characters? Was I supposed to be an outsider looking in? Hi! Yesterday I went to a screening and got to interview Luca and he actually said that the main focus of this film is the representation of the loneliness and desperate search of love and affection of the characters. The eaters are all those who are outcast and can’t find a place inside society, those who have been abandoned too. Human beings are actually social animals who need to have the support of a group and live together, but they cannot because of their genetical urge to eat people.
    The most important line is “in the world of love, there is no place for monsters” and Guadagnino said that with this movie he’s trying to show the opposite. We all feel outcast sometimes, different, lonely and in want of love, sometimes a bit “monstrous”, aliens, different. Of course here we a maximal display of this existential situation🤍

    This movie is a work of art. It makes the viewer experience an array of emotions from an eccentric lineup of well developed characters. The story is beautiful and dark, revealing the brightest and darkest parts of humanity. This is a movie that is going to become a cult classic for generations to come. Shout out to directors and actors that understand the complexity of what makes us humans and how to accurately portray them. 10/10, recommend this movie, but it's not for your midwest grandma

      This film is very polarizing to audiences. Some say the characters aren't developed, the pacing was off, it should've been longer, where is the horror, etc. While I loved the film, I am asking myself about the quality of the film with all the reviews and comments. It's tough but your review weirdly enough reassures me that I can love a film for whatever I deem worthy. It's weird to say this but after some of the reviews called it "YA Twilight", I left an attack on me. It made my experience seem less and it's just so condescending. I love this film probably as much as I loved cmbyn. Art can get so personal is what I am trying to say. Thanks for being you and shining my day!

    I really think the well-handled script is a lot of why this movie works. The directing and acting is great but man, David Kajganich’s screenwriting is so perfect, very strong bones for the rest of the moviemaking process to build itself around. He’s worked with Luca Guadagnino before, he’s great at that sort of horror-romance thing, and he’s the type of screenwriter who totally trusts his audience. Really an excellent structure for Luca’s directing style to build itself around.

    Watched the movie when you posted the video on the day it came out on Thanksgiving Weekend. Learning that the director also made Susperia (2018) made me even more intrigued by this movie after I watched it because that directors Susperia is one of my favorite Horror Films of all time. Apparently this is based on a book so that's interesting

    I really enjoyed the movie but i couldn't stop thinking of how much more i enjoyed Raw (2016). If any of you haven't watched it, I recommend it.
    PS: Not saying a exact 1:1 comparison can be made but there are enough thematic similarities for sure. But the directors vibes are completely different.
