I thought that was well done! I discovered them just after deciding upon the least killifish for a new tank, as my tanks are inside unheated. Swamp River Aquatics helped me understand more about the endlers as well. They are in trouble, good on aquarium care givers for maintaining true lines! Thank you!

i am sure you had them. but it just seems unusually to have them as your first fish 11 years ago, like this guys says. but i guess, everything is possible. i have ran across a few people who seem to think that feeder or wild guppies are endlers))). also, do a lot of people keep Micropoecillia sp? i've seen them in Aqualog book, but never for sale anywhere

I live in germany endlers livebearers or poecilia wingei have been around for ever they just were not sold in stores until 5 or 6 years ago now every good fish store has them in stock. And before they were available at hobby auctions or (i dont know if there is a fitting english word for it) it's like conventions for hobbyists where clubs or private breeders sell and exchange their fish.

Years ago my neighbor gave me some of his guppies. Now I know they were actually Endlers. The males are very attractive with those bright colors. They had this interesting behavior where two males would face each other and touch their noses to the bottom like they were having a sparring dance. Maybe I didn’t have enough females in there for them to bother.

I am from Venezuela, when I was a child in my city San Cristobal in any creek they were obtained, we fish them and put them in glass containers with plants in a short time they did not fit, because of how prolific they are. Recently I went to run in a place near my city famous for having a hot springs resort, and next to the parking lot there was what looked like stagnant water very low and maybe dirty, I was surprised to see that it was full of these beautiful fish and it brought back memories of my childhood with a plastic cup. Now that I see your video I want to make in my house a big pond with fish from my region and put in these fish also a cichlid that we call "viejitas" very similar to the ramirezis and maybe some kind of catfish from the region. I hope in a while to tell you my experience and why not offer these specimens and have my own reservoir.

I got some endler/guppy mixes at Petco, sold as guppies, and are they ever spectacularly beautiful now that they have been in the tank for a month. Their colors are truly breathtaking. I am wary of genetic mixes too, but when I was picking out fish, the manager assured me that if they'd been sold to her as guppies, then guppies they must be, but as they have grown, they definitely are exhibiting endler's genetic characteristics of markings, coloration, and body conformation. Thanks for highlighting these amazing fish.

So far we only have fancy guppies (dragon tail to be specific).
We had 6 but one died Saturday morning due to me not doing enough research combined with a change in water hardness from the municipality.
Endlers or mollies are likely next on the list when our new tank finishes cycling.

I love my little Endler's. I like the one I saw in your first tank you showed us, the yellow and orange one. I don't have any like that. I think that was the only colors on him, which I find strange, but beautiful. All my males are wearing about 5 different colors. Do you think that one is rare, maybe? It was an Endler's, right?
Anyhow, I must have perfect water for them which is very hard and Ph of normally 8.0 to 8.5. And I agree totally with you. They are immensely adaptable. And unfortunately I didn't keep mine separated from my guppies so...I have hybrids. But I have to say, they are amazingly beautiful and extremely colorful! Um, and yes very prolific! :) Anyhow, thanks for another video. Always a pleasure to watch and to check out your fish room.

Got my first look at these guys several months back at my friends store. The males (and there were ONLY males, leading me to believe some wholesalers ship just males) were like more fantastically colored versions of male wild/feeder guppies. Probably would've bitten had there actually been females available. But really don't think I want to go the livebearer route again. GREAT info on these videos and had no idea that there were some out there that were not "pure". Also didn't know about their threatened status in the wild. Ty and keep the great info coming!

I've got a K class colony in a 30-gallon long along with cherry shrimp and they seem to be doing great together I'm actually seeing more shrimp production out of that tank than my 10-gallon dedicated shrimp colony tank. But my question is about guppy grass I thought you mentioned it in this video but when I rewatched it perhaps not. Do you do much with Najas species grass? Currently the tank is planted with a couple of Anubis specimens an African water Fern just getting established. Several mixed crypto's and floating Brazilian pennywort. What's your feeling on Najas grass in general?

I’m getting some endlers from a local hobbyist soon. I’m very torn about whether to get all mails or a mixture of males and females.
On the one hand, I love the idea of being able to see the baby fish. On the other hand, they reproduce so rapidly but I don’t want to be overrun with them. I’m trying to find if there is a good compatible tankmate that would eat many of the fry but not disturb the adults? It would have to be something fairly small, this is just a 10 gallon tank. Thank you!

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Male only endler tanks are very popular as they are tiny, colorful, and lively. The females are generally pretty drab looking, so not a popular choice, though there is no reason you couldn't do it. These guys breed so readily, they are appropriate for anyone interested.

    • @RachelOLeary

+Pawel Pieluszynski it shouldn't be an issue for many generations but there is a registry of breeder/kepper if you wanted to add more genetic diversity. Careful culling and starting out with a good sized group is also helpful

Thank you for the disclaimer about not keeping these with other live bearers. I added a breeding trio of fancy guppies to a tank where I already had 5 silver bullet endlers males, after receiving assurances from the LFS that they would be ok together. They pestered both female guppies to an early death in about two days. They're in a tank with gourami now, and they still "puff" themselves up to the females, but they are ignored by the larger fish.

I got some Endler's Lifebearers (Mixed breed) a while ago and now one of my females got some fry. This thank doesn't have that much room and the only other aquarium I got contains a goldfish. Help? Is it okay to sell them even though I'm not a professional breeder?

+DragonLovingGirl6 you don't need to be a professional, fish clubs are also a fantastic way to sell or trade fry

Almost 100% certain the male at 4:30 is not an endler, so yes, that one is a hybrid tank. The toughest part, imho, is the females. It's very difficult to identify females properly.

would microdevarios, red rasboras and neons live well in a bare bottom - but with plants - tank?
id love to have a black wall, minimal tank to contrast with their colors, but only if it doesnt influence their life qualitu

Hi Rachel. Do you ship to the UK and would the fish make it. The reason I ask is I would love to breed these endlers. I have a few males but can't find any females. Even on ebay they are advertising them as true endlers but they are too big I think they are guppies and way bigger than yours. Obviously as long as the shipping isn't ridiculous. Thanks.
