Today we take a look at one of my favorite little gobies- Stiphodon atropurpureus. I have been keeping these little guys on and off for over a decade, and they hold a special place in the hillstream aquarium. What are some of your favorites?
I ❤ gobies. First time I saw a salt water goby- I thought it was fake! Too beautiful to be real-😂 I have an adorable chunky knite goby- he hunts around his tank like he’s Jaws… takes care of my guppy fry problem.
I've had so many over the years it's hard to say just one, but one thing I very much enjoy are your awesome videos. I enjoy seeing and learning about fish I probably would have never known about. I also enjoy your enthusiasm for gardening along with so many other things you do to make this world a better place. Thanks You Rachel..... 💐🤗
What an extraordinary little fish. I love your videos, because you go to places I cannot, and you keep marvelous critters and plants that would be extremely difficult for me to provide proper conditions for. By watching your videos, I can vicariously enjoy your experiences. Thanks, Rachel.
Ah, my goal fish. And all because of you, too! I’ve watched your 150gal playlist over and over and am currently trying to get my 55gal set up and ready for these guys. I know it may take a few years and I’m ok with that. It’s nowhere near ready but I’m one my way! Thank you for all you do for this community and I hope you’re having fun on your latest adventure!
Im new to the hobby and have not bought a goby yet, But I can easily, already say they are my favorite freshwater fish. I don’t know what it is about them.
For every fish purchased at pet stores they should have a button you press and one of your videos pops up about the species whenever someone is interested
I have been ill for the last while, but I have been watching. This has got to be one of the loveliest videos to sit back and just watch thank you so much. Little guys like this and make it all worthwhile isn’t it? I do hope you’re well and healthy and happy, take care of my friend and thank you so much for this. I would love if you would do one with your big guys those dinosaurs of the fish world of all your fish they are my absolute favorite. 💕
Things have been a bit hectic, playing catch up. This is my favorite tank of all time, and girl, those gobies are AMAZING! Can't wait to hear and see more of your adventures. This was such a great chill-axin' video, perfect music. 👍❤👍
Gorgeous little fish maybe when my 145 matures after the rescape overhaul , this will be in my bucket list at around 6 months of age so my tank can sustain these little beauties.
Extraordinary fish kept extraordinarily well. You always explain how and share your encyclopedic knowledge. I picked out some boraras maculatus last week because of your video on them - when they are comfortable I hope they show their colours. If they don’t, I know I need to improve something. Thanks for the best fish keeping videos on TH-cam.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video! I so enjoyed it! I was able to get a couple of these, both male, earlier this spring. I love them for their color and their cute faces!!
What a gorgeous little fish. Always thought if I could figure out how to I'd love a tank with these and pygmy sunfish. Rock out the black and blue tank.
Excellent fish. I appreciate your aquascaping in the hillstream tank. Would love to see Aquascape reach out to you as they have with other TH-camrs. They have the expertise to do an indoor tropical set up for you with mucho flow.
Love gobies! So glad to see your new video! I’ve missed them. What kind of algae is that? We have it in our tank, too, but nobody seems to know what it is so we can prevent it.
These look awesome :) I tende to like fish from south america the most ^^ I try to adopt Neons (Paracheidron axelrodi and inesi) and Gymnocorymbus ternetzi. Maybe there will be Guppys in my futur?!
What a beautiful little fish. Blue is my favorite color, by far and I do not have a single blue fish in my entire fish room... This guy would fit the bill perfectly. Oh, any chance you are going to the Keystone Clash?
@@RachelOLeary Well if you do end up going, I'd like to buy you and your guy (guy... Man? Boyfriend, significant other? LOL I forgot his name, sorry) a drink. Hopefully that doesn't scare you off. :) Fully vaccinated!
my absolute #1 favorite goby of all time, I love when they burry themselves in sand and poke up just their eyes, and how the like to hang out on the glass and watch the outside world :)
Hey Rachel, I love those Gobbies, you have, and thank you for sharing them with us. What are the parameters for keeping these little guys in the aquarium? Where could I search to find retailers that sell them, and what should I expect to spend to purchase them.
I have had good luck mixing stiphodons with shrimp, especially if its a densely planted aquarium. Rhinogobious are a different story, as their prey drive is exceptionally strong. Stiphodons are more grazers then predators. That being said, some baby shrimp would likely be eaten. Their adult size of 1.5" and their small, downturned mouth makes them less of a predatory risk then a lot of fish commonly kept with them.
@@RachelOLeary Thanks Rachel. I just turned 64 and up until a few years ago I had not been involved with nano fish, inverterts and snails too much. I got back into Rainbows and managed to catch me some camallanaus. Took me several years before I identified the problem. Never saw the worms untill the day I sent some off to an aquaculture lab. I have enjoyed seeing rabbit snails have some babies and got some Spike Tailed MTS's. Those are cool. Enjoy watching your channel.

An absolutely beautiful fish.
These remind me of you 😂! Colorful and vibrant. Wonderful fish, any luck in breeding them? Thanks for the video!👍
They require salinity for their larva to be reared. I have spawned them, but never tried to raise them up
Lovely tank and fish. 🙂❤
I've been looking so long for these gobies. I'm jealous 😫

What an amazing little guy I got a 20 gallon low boy that may be perfect for a couple of those.

Sure! Let's touch base as it gets closer :)
I saw these at my lfs a while back and didn’t pick em up. I’m pissssed at myself now haha.
Could you do a video on River Shrimp please. Brought some as feeders in LFS but want to keep them and not feed them to any fish.
my absolute #1 favorite goby of all time, I love when they burry themselves in sand and poke up just their eyes, and how the like to hang out on the glass and watch the outside world :)

Hi there, do you still have these ?
If you have, how old are they ?
What is the tank size ? Please let me know the exact dimensions
Yes, they are about nine or so years old now in a 150g hillstream tank
How do you maintain the microcrustacean population for them in a closed system? Do you have to seed it initially?
I supplement it with frozen cyclops and baby brine.
@@RachelOLeary Hi,just saw this and seen your reply regarding feeding. I would bet a wooden nickel they would not go well in a tank with shrimp.

Looking to get a goby hopefully soon
Woahhh so Priddy ;0;
Are they shrimp safe?
What plant is that, at 6.001 minutes, please?
Some sort of moss, maybe Christmas moss or similar
Thanks ! Much appreciated ! xx
