WOOOOOOT! As a kid in the 70s, I saw a photo in a pamphlet they used to give away with aquariums - I have wanted one ever since. I have seen them once in person and didn't have a clue at the time what to do with a ??killie?? Maybe some day I'll set up a tank for them. Nice to be reminded of childhood dreams.
Rachel you’re the only one that is bold enough to pronounce all the proper scientific Latin names of the species. Yeah, you’re right it didn’t show up in the video, but clown killifish have that beautiful Aqua marine glowing lamp eye. Also these guys are super cute. I will have to say though, when I heard the word “clown” I expect more color to them.
I so enjoy when you admit to one of your little quirks/idiosyncrasies. You mentioned not using lids, and I find it "uncomfortable" (with the exception of my QT tank) to go w/o glass lids. I love this hobby and all the fussy qualities it imbues on us.
Hey, I just wanted to say I've learned a lot from your videos, thank you! I'm also stoked that you've got a video on these guys and sparkling gouramis. Do you reckon both of these species would be compatible with each other in a 10 gallon tank?
perfect timing Rachel, I just got a fluval spec 2.6 gallon and I was thinking about trying to get some, do you think that tank is too small for one male and two females? Your help is greatly appreciated:)
Rachel O'Leary, what would you think about a 10 gallon tank with clown killis, Gulf Coast Pygmy Sunfish, CPD, cherry red shrimp, and 1 or 2 Japanese trapdoor snails?
Do you have any info or experience with the plains killifish? Native to the states ? I have located a good source of wild ones and am beginning to work with them , seems like killi fish in general are just hardy fish !
Thank you for a great presentation! I'm wondering if these would be good tankmates for my african dwarf frogs? Do the kilis prefer to eat at the upper part of the water column, or would they also eat at the bottom of the tank and possibly outcompete the frogs in terms of food?
What PH do you keep yours at? My lfs says they require soft water with a PH of 6 but none of the care guides on TH-cam ever mention this. I would love to get some of these little guys but the water in my area is very hard, around 7.6-7.8.
Hi from Italy. I have two 0.8" males or females(?) - they "fight" a bit - in a 5.5 gal. They are 0.8 inch. I bought them half a year ago with 4 siblings who were ill and soon died. They grow very slowly. Previously they had a bigger tank, but they risked being eaten. Although in limited quarters I'd like to give them company - they seem so lonely. What do you think?
I have 6 males in my community tank (no females), and they seem to happily co-exist with all other inhabitants (Chili Rasboras, Celestial Pearl Danios, Cardinal Tetras). It's a heavily planted 30 g tank though, so the 6 males have enough places to carve out and call their own.

Hi Rachel By Chance Do You Still Have Any Of These Fish And Are They For Sell I'm Looking For A Pair To Breed If So Let Me Know I Breed Black Phantom Tetras And Red Tail Sharks Thanks James.
I'm heartbroken. My favorite too and I finally got 12 of them. They were fine for the few 4-5 days and since then have been dropping off left and right. I can't find out why. I think I have five left.....😥😥😥
As soon as she said they come from liberia this instantly came to mind : Ooo i like ur accent oo where u from IM LIBERIAN Oh my bad, *hush voice* i like ur accent where u from
You pronounce those scientific names so well! Another great fish!

Holy. Shit. My whole life I thought they were called KILLfish. I feel like my mind was blown in a super unimportant way.
that cracked me up!
thanks for sharing friend , you always have the coolest fish that I've never seen anywhere have a great day.

one of the most beautiful Killifish in my opinion !!!

+wyzemann I am definitely full of quirks!
Never really looked into Killi's but they're pretty cool!
very cute little fish

Love Killies! I have trained mine not to jump. I do the same with my rainbows.
How do you train them?
electric shock collar
Well if they jump out and live he kills them so they never do it again. That's how.
I don't kill them I just make them realize and give them new perspective.
Awesome, love them!
Please do one on the Peacock Gudgeon ^_^
Super cute killies!
hatching them from egg is awsome!!
perfect timing Rachel, I just got a fluval spec 2.6 gallon and I was thinking about trying to get some, do you think that tank is too small for one male and two females? Your help is greatly appreciated:)
i should do
whaaa!! didn't know you did a profile on these lil guys.. can't wait to get mine.
Such cute little stunners!! =D
Rachel O'Leary, what would you think about a 10 gallon tank with clown killis, Gulf Coast Pygmy Sunfish, CPD, cherry red shrimp, and 1 or 2 Japanese trapdoor snails?
Go for it..if you haven't done so already.
@@urbansk8r231 would that too much livestock for a 10 gallon tank or not?
@@thomasashe2681 It's fine✌️
Oh aren't they so cute 🤗🤗
Thank you for such a informative and nice video. Is it safe to put assorted killi fish in a tank which has lots of crs shrimp and galaxy rasbora? ☺️
Do you have any info or experience with the plains killifish? Native to the states ? I have located a good source of wild ones and am beginning to work with them , seems like killi fish in general are just hardy fish !
+Kyle Weltner no, sorry! I haven't worked wirh many killies mainly because I don't use lids
Hey that's still a good reminder for the lid! Lol
Thank you for a great presentation! I'm wondering if these would be good tankmates for my african dwarf frogs? Do the kilis prefer to eat at the upper part of the water column, or would they also eat at the bottom of the tank and possibly outcompete the frogs in terms of food?
I want these! 😃 are they mostly top dwellers like hatchetfish?
+Jessica Barron yes!
Love the video
These are pretty, but marbled hatchets remain a firm favorite for top dwellers for me!
I have seen killi keepers say these are not the best beginner killifish. I was wondering why you find these easy to keep?
+reiko na6ase they seem bombproof to me as far as small fish go. Easy to feed, sex, and breed
Rachel O'leary will they get along with Furcata Rainbows? I'd love to get some. I have Furcatas
Great video, thanks!
Do you think they’d be ok with shrimp?
Very cool.
Thx,
What PH do you keep yours at? My lfs says they require soft water with a PH of 6 but none of the care guides on TH-cam ever mention this. I would love to get some of these little guys but the water in my area is very hard, around 7.6-7.8.
Ph 6.5- 7.5
Would these be a good fit with 2 Otos, 6 CPDs and a few Endlers?
+Matthew Timms yea, should work well
I guessing this would max me out in a 10 gal tank?
Hi from Italy. I have two 0.8" males or females(?) - they "fight" a bit - in a 5.5 gal. They are 0.8 inch. I bought them half a year ago with 4 siblings who were ill and soon died. I would buy new "siblings".
With these being top-dwellers, do you think they'd do well in a tank also housing CPO crayfish?
Nope your CPO will end up hurting or even killing them whenever they will swim near it
Are they peaceful? I've heard certain types of killis can be very aggressive, are these one of the gentler species?
+Luculencia yes
I have 6 males in my community tank (no females), and they seem to happily co-exist with all other inhabitants (Chili Rasboras, Celestial Pearl Danios, Cardinal Tetras). It's a heavily planted 30 g tank though, so the 6 males have enough places to carve out and call their own.
Will they be ok with tetras?
are killifish brackish fish? or do they just do fine in freshwater?
there are brackish and freshwater species. this particular species is freshwater.
Hi Rachel do you sell these?
How is the planted tank gettin on did u use the co2
