    These guys are sooo cool. I was worried my zebra danio would bug them, but it was crazy: I put them in and the two species immediately started hanging out and it looked like the danios were kind of watching out for them.

      Almost all danio (cpd comprised) can be kept in hard water. Also I dont know why everyone think erytromicron is speciallyloving hard water, lake inle have not harder water than other Myanmar's water bodies. And in fact, it's only low-medium hard.

      dont get me wrong alex im just comparing them to the vast majority of small fish that are popular in the hobby, ex. pretty much every south american tetra, and blackwater species they handle hardwater much much better

    Awesome fish, I accidently got 12 from my local fish store. I picked up the fish from the store still in the shipping bag. I thought I was getting emerald eye rasboras. I couldn't see them really well and added them too my 55 gallon aquarium. Once I realized what they were it was way too late but the fish are all doing fine. They are an amazing fish to watch and they love the dense plants that I have in there. They are also pretty outgoing despite the larger tetras in the tank as well darting in and out and setting up there pecking order. All in all the best accident that's ever happened to my hobby

    I brought home 12 of these little gems two weeks ago and put them in my 29g tall tank that has a water wisteria jungle on one side of the tank. They really do hide themselves within the mass of plants so what I did was to thin out some of the stems to open up the wisteria just enough to see the edr's hanging out. What's cool is to watch them dart into the open water and grab up the small sinking pellets and retreat back into the plants, they are like a mini strike force and they actually compete pretty well with the cherry barbs and neons. Some days they are more shy than others so I'll just put a small amount of food directly into the wisteria jungle which they like of course.My water is very very hard so I dilute it with rodi water to a pH of 7.3,Gh-180 and Kh100, so far all the fish are doing remarkably well,live plants make all the difference because my nitrates stay at 20ppm and only do water changes to remineralize and keep the redox potential in balance.

    You highlight some of the most beautiful and interesting small fish. I have trouble picking from the many options for beautiful fish you cover in your videos. One thing I wish you had was a matrix that listed the requirements for all these fish so that one would have an easier time picking the one(s) perfect for their tanks. Like pH, temperature, planting, hardiness, water hardness, ease of care, schooling?. I downloaded about 10 videos from your site for fish I like, such a matrix would make narrowing down choices a lot easier.

    Hi RachelI have been binging on ur videos. You do really well in front of the camera and give a lot of info on different species. I also love smaller fish and not just because all I have running is a nano right now. It is the neatest thing to watch the behavior of smaller fish. Anywho , how many of these would you recommend in a nano size of 5.5 gallon densely planted being the only species except for albino ramshorns snails? That would be a great addition to the species videos, the smallest recommend size of tank and number of fish for that species. For those of us that only keep smaller tanks.thanks

    I acquired some by accident when I bought a small school of CPDs at my favorite fish store. I'm not sure how many I have as my tank is so heavily planted and they only come out to feed but you are right about hybridizing. As a matter of fact, a male CPD was "hybridizing" with one in my HC this morning! They are beautiful fish and very similar to the CPDs in size and coloration.

    I was researching Emerald Rasbora's and this video popped up. I got excited to learn from you. Do you think neocaridina's and caridina baby shrimp have a chance if I were to stock their tank with these fish? I have a somewhat heavily planted tank and it will be more dense once my back stem plants grow in. Thank you for any help. I'm not sure if I want to risk some babies being eaten.

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some babies would absolutely be eaten, how many really depends on the tank size and set up (planting). I find these small danios to be especially good predators, that being said- SOME babies absolutely willl surivive

      @@RachelOLeary Thank you for responding. So fast too. I don't think I want to risk it for I just purchased 10 red tigers last week but have had cherry and red rili for a few yrs now. I'd love to find some red tigers berried and babies too. They are in a 15g Aqua Japan rimless setup. What's your thinking on chili Rasbora's, ember tetras, or cpd? I'm following you on IG with my name cheryls_shrimp_aquarium. My goal is to have the back heavily planted with my root plants.

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In 100% honesty, if your goal is breeding shrimp, just skip the fish. You can always add adult shrimp to a fish tank later when your colonies are established and their breeding is a bonus in stead of a goal. I think you were an old tiger customer, no?

      @sunnycal2293 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RachelOLeary Thank you. I think you are right and I needed to hear that or I'd be getting some micro fish first chance I saw some. I'll do my darnest to hold back the urge. Hehehe. Yes,...You helped me Rachel with some shrimp questions about 3 yrs ago regarding tigers temp and pH. You didn't have any or I would have purchased some from you. I got some from Rob at Flip Aquatics. Unfortunately, I was flooded out of my aptmt for 7ish weeks only after having my new tigers for only 6 weeks. I was so depressed from so much but a good friend cared for my tank. Sadly my tigers didn't survive but I was so thankful that she even took in my shrimp tank and dog while my daughter and I were set up elsewhere. Many generations later my cherry and rili shrimp are doing great still to this day. I finally got some tigers last week. I love watching your species only video's along with so many other goodies. Thank you for taking the time to respond earlier. Much appreciated.

    I was lucky to find some a couple of years ago and I happily paid the asking price. They are very pretty little things, but they were rather disappointing in the end and I eventually sold the lot of them last fall. I just got tired of never seeing them. They were in a very densely planted 10G, set up especially for them, starting with a dozen of the fish and some cherry shrimp.
    It bugged me that they were almost never visible, not even at feeding time. They did not appear to get used to their situation. I really only saw them in silhouette after the lights went out, as the tank didn't have a back or front side specifically and was backlit from a window.
    I kept their tank super clean, crystal clear with lots of water changes and plenty of live food. They seemed fairly hardy once they were acclimated. I lost a couple in the first week, they'd only been in the store a few days. I didn't have the space to set up breeding tanks, unfortunately. Perhaps tank bred fish would have been a bit less shy?

      I made the mistake of moving to an area with extremely low tds from from the tap. Makes it really hard not too have tons of softwater fish. In the process of building a house... and no it does not have a fish room... I have a 30x40 steel barn.
