Finally starting into the Legacy army tutorials! I picked out this Skaven Warlock from Games Day in 2011 for the video, but you can easily apply the same steps to your own Skaven models. I had a bit of a struggle choosing a colour scheme/clan for him but resources like the old Uniforms and Heraldry books are perfect for flicking through for ideas! I finally chose Clan Skurvy for this guy! Hope you enjoy and let me know what you want to see next for The Old World!

I would like to see vampire counts next.
Really good color choices with that yellow. Interesting take with pirate skaven. I'll have to try mixing contrasts into paints more. That subtle tone change really helps certain paints.

@@MediocreHobbies Oh, I love contrast, which is why I'm such a fan. I just don't mix it much. Something I might change as I look into armies that don't need to be so uniform.
Not sure why the existence of a Skaven clan that are basically sewer pirates surprises me, but the paint job looks amazing something about a yellow always looks nice. Can’t wait to see those Lizardman or maybe some Dark Elves, keep up the good work!

I'm the same with Purple when it comes to your yellow conundrum. I can paint a purple cloak, no trouble, ask me to do purple armour? I'd rather eat warpstone. 😅
I luckily still own this model, and he's currently base costed brown with flesh details picked out. Think he's gonna need a dip in some strip liquid to start him fresh.
When it comes to the Skaven army, going off the top of my head here, you must take 1 Warlord and 1 unit of Clanrats. Then you unlock special Clan units depending on the other heroes you take. I.e Warlock Engineer unlocks 1 Lightning Cannon or Doom wheel per 1000 points as well as Globadiers.
Ye I’ve had a look at the rules now. I was planning to start at 1500pts and that means only one assassin. That’s a shame.
Vampire counts would be great! Thinking for while now a whole army in the empire colors of sylvania would look awesome

I wish there was more online material for different clans, baronies, etc., like what is contained in this book but for all armies. Back in the early 90's the army books contained more of this but it was still hard to find all of the information to make painting decisions.

That Skaven was one of the few favorites I picked up from Games Day, along with Archaon. Marco Colombo still sits in his box waiting to be added to the dogs of war army.

YES!! skaven love!!! i've done my main clan as mors, just started a second clan moulder. wish i owned the heraldry book,

You could totally take a whole bunch of, night runners, gutter runners, a couple master assassins and fit in some skryre stuff as long as you have a warlock Engineer. You just need 1 clanrat unit per 1000 Points. They are great with weapons teams, ratlings are super good. I'd definitely have a level four grey seer on a bell. May have to pick and choose stuff because of Points. You could totally make some thing super cool. Best of luck!

I don't know how viable it would be, but I would love to see you try a "How fast can I make and paint up an old world army" style of video. Somewhat like those 24 hours challenges that used to be so popular.
Those videos are something i alway wanted to try. Need to do some planning first.

It was in an interview on the Painting Phase. I cant rememberwhich unfortunately. He made them for a White Dwarf article but they ended up rejected because a manager 'didn't think anyone would buy multiple kits to convert miniatures' 😅

I was curious do you have the wood elf twin sisters? I think they have a dragon as well I only know of units from total warhammer 2 so I don't know what's officially a mini and what isn't but if they are one and you have them I think it'd be cool to see

I do indeed have that model. It’s epic and intimidating. But needs to be painted.
There's a practical reason for a model to have a tactical rock: it provides a larger surface to adhere to the base. If the model is traditionally cast, then the rock's shape can also be a funnel to help the material pour into the mould.

I love Skaven, it was one of my first armies when I started WHFB back when Clanrats were the single piece, single pose plastic minis. I'm not sure why but as the minis got better and better, I started to dislike painting them. Maybe it's time to try again... or by a load of the old old models and paint them again 😂

That weapon looks like it could be a Storm Daemon. A polearm that shoots lightning bolts.

Next army do a mad max style orc and goblin army consisting only of goblin & orc charriots, snotling pump wagons and maybe some cavalry to represent motor bikes :P

The weapon is a Glaive or Halbert,
And this specific one is a Warlock Augmented Weapon. In 7th it gave +1 Strength and +1 Attack plus magical Attacks.

The one fun rule that remained is you can have as many clan warband leaders as you want (up to your character max)
I’ll be painting them up as “assassins” for all my lovely clan eshin (which is the whole army… even the clan rats)
Thinking some massive blocks of rats as well

I really want to get into WTOW. I found some great proxy files to print for a Bretonnian army just last night. But getting the rules to play seems like a near army priced investment in themselves. Maybe eventually I'll find some used copies at a great price. Might be years from now, but maybe. I guess I could use them to build a Bretonnian warband for Mordheim.
Well I’d your printing the army you don’t intend to go to any official events then why not get a copy of the rules from online? Im sure a few sneaky PDFs exist.
