OMG. Seriously good call about the number of shades GW have. Actually, I need to reconsider just what their paint range does cover, it is large (which we always knew) but yeah, they do keep adding to it, and I know I was just not paying attention to how large it has become. On the subject of painting ninja to 'pop', I remember decades ago, someone had a ninja army that consisted of nothing but bases with footprints on them on the basis that you shouldn't see ninja... cheapest army of all time!
Great video & 😊I love your explanation of why you used a certain colour on this part and a different colour for another bit 👍 Would’ve love to see more clan colours. Cheers
Mate I have been watching your videos for a few months now and they are exceptional! Great tips and examples really well done and entertaining from Australia 🇦🇺 .
Thanks for doing this, and please do more different skaven clans! I was already thinking of painting mine as all different clans, especially for the non-battleline models, and I think doing a ramshackle bunch of all different clans for the clanrats will look cool, and as messy as the clanrats tend to be. A coalition of the unwilling.
Nice painting, liked the pestilence one the best. Didn't know about Mortarian grime. I'm going to pick that up with the Skaventide box for all my nurgle aligned armies. Nurgle being your favorite chaos god, I'm not surprised you liked the pestilence clan rat so much.
Absolutely love this video, made me go from a fan of Skaven but afraid to start them due to the horde aspect to me assaulting my Skaventide box and just ripping the Skaven sprues out of it to get going! Thank yoy very much!
Amazing tutorial! Especially big thank you for providing a batch painting plan that is both fast and will look good across a whole army. My future Clan Pestilens Spearhead thank-thanks you already!
In my opinion, eshin clanrats should be ridiculously bright. Your enemies wouldn't see the ninja sneaking up on them because they are focused on the horde.
This could also work has justification for why eshin uses Rat Ogres and Hell Pit Abominations, no one’s going to be looking behind them with these monsters running them down.
You are my go to for a nice quick fairly simple paint schemes that look great. You mentioned something in passing, and I think it would really significantly improve the clan Eshin model. When you look at the three different clan rats together, the red and green look very balanced. The Eshin screams I have too much brown and I need a color that will work well with brown and black. That would be grey, or if you prefer gray.
Beautiful models and I must say in particular the Eshin Clan model with the shield with the bright red symbol I really like it since everything else is quite dark and the symbol can be seen very well. It gives me the impression that it could be useful for scare tactics like I'll let you know that the Eshin clan is coming while their heroes go behind enemy lines to assassinate important targets, let's say a bit of theatrics and deception like Batman, just hairier. I would like a video with the other clans too, also because Moulder and Skryre are my favourites.
Cool video, not really into AoS at the moment but still interesting, well said about other TH-camrs and the amount of paints they use it gets a bit daunting especially for those of us that like to stick to a single range of paints
fantastic! just one recommendation for you: i think you could show your paintjobs off much better with better lighting - especially at the end it would be cool to see the result under good light and on a turntable
They look great! You could get away with using just one metallic paint. Snakebite Leather and Gore-grunta fur over silver make excellent brown metallics over Leadbelcher or Iron Hands steel basecoat. I recommend to try them out if you haven't already.
Fantastic video and I'd love to see Molder and Skryre guides as well as maybe a more obscure one? Also did you add those rocks to the Skavens feet or did they come with them?
While the Eshin Clanrats might not be bright I do think you could paint them brighter because like another comment I've just seen I can image Eshin using their Clanrats as a Distraction Carnifex. They want them to be seen so the enemy has more chance of missing the sneaky stuff. I like all the colour schemes here and am totally onboard with your comment about paints and other TH-cam painters. You achieve good results without too much faffage. 🙂
Forgot to say this when this video was posted, but I was working on the Verminlord Deceiver, finished it today. Can't wait for more Skaven videos, would love to see a Thanquol colour scheme done.
They all look great, but my favourite is also the pestilence guy! Love how the Skeleton Horde is turning out as old wood. Would you have a tip what paints to use for variations in skin tone? Sence the higher up a Skaven in the hirarchy, the darker its skin.
They may be made for aos and not ranking up in the old world/fantasy but these are great. They look like how id actually expect a 10 year evoloution would in citadel miniatures. Not that the previous clanrat kit was bad.. it was phenominal for the time. Literally one of the few times recently where i would say a citadel mini has somewhat earned their semi eye watering price tags.
Nice work! I am very tempted to give the Spearhead format a go and these are really helpful. I might just be bad at searching, but have you any Sylvaneth videos?
I would like to see you paint up the other clans. I know there are going to be more releases, but they did say in one of the WarCom articles that the clanrats were taking bits of inspiration from each clan because if you're still only a clanrat, you haven't yet reached the point of truly belonging to a clan.
Gonna have to agree with you, mate. The Pestilens rat turned out amazing. Your Eschins clearly need some friends. You may need to batchpaint like 80 or so Pestilens rodents to hang out :)
First of all great paintjob. I will use it for my Eshin Mordheim Warband. Wich paint is the second one on the Eshin fur? First Guilliman Flesh and then gore grunta fur?
The Eshin symbol I can imagine being forced to be painted red by their clan leader to help protect themselves in case things didn't go to plan (make the rest of the unit an easier target, for them to escape!)
Hey is there going to be a second video on the other three clans, considering they are also in the box. Like the first hero unit clan rat gave you these three options but the second one gave you the other three. Also considering basically clan eshin and pestilince are non existent this edition
As addicted as you (and we) are to the old world - an addiction I probably shouldn't fuel - do the new shaven work for old world? Because they're a legacy army its difficult to tell if they'll work
Hey there! I really like this video and was going to use this for my rats soon. I was a little confused on the priming So after the chaos black spray primer, is the application of grey seer also with the spray primer or the grey seer base paint? I'm not familiar with the term overcoat
Yeah two different sprays! Chaos Black as a full coat, then a spray mostly from above with the grey seer. This adds light and dark areas that helps see the model and where I put highlights etc. The lighter coat of grey seer also adds a bit of texture(too small to see with your eye) that helps the contrast paint cling to better! Hope that makes sense!
Great results for better than table top quality models, I urge younger/cash strapped modellers to get Vallejo xpress colours instead of GW paints, much cheaper, just as good quality and a decent and expanding range
It's likely you have far too little on the brush really. That's the most common issue, people try to apply it thinly and that is what causes almost all issues with contrast

Here's how and why I prime the way I do! Two different rattle/spray cans are used-one full solid coat of black, and a lighter coat of grey seer sprayed from above to add light/dark areas. The lighter coating of grey seer adds a small amount of grit(too small for the eye to see) from to give the contrast paint a better surface to cling too. Paint your clan rats as all the different, like it's a mix of 2 or 3 different clans just thrown together or it's a massive combined clan army and the clan rants have just mixed on the charge across the field.
It’s a solid cost of black and a lighter coat of grey from above to add light/shadow. The lighter coat adds a bit of texture(not visible to the eye) that helps contrast paint cling to better! Hope that makes sense!

So after the chaos black spray primer, is the application of grey seer also with the spray primer or the grey seer base paint? I'm not familiar with the term overcoat
Yeah two different sprays! Chaos Black as a full coat, then a spray mostly from above with the grey seer. This adds light and dark areas that helps see the model and where I put highlights etc. The lighter coat of grey seer also adds a bit of texture(too small to see with your eye) that helps the contrast paint cling to better!
