After getting away from the scammers at the Pyramids, I hopped into a fishy Tuk-Tuk ride. Something didn't smell quiet right and it wasn't the backstreets of Giza. Yalla!
Just to clear things up to all the smart commentators here: 1) I asked him to go straight. He then turned into a side road. (First dodgy move) 2) If you listen carefully the younger dude asks "horse?" offering me a horse ride. Which is one of the things they do there to rip off tourists. When they knew I wanted a restaraunt. 3) The guy on the phone was calling someone who spoke english so that they could of taken me to a restaraunt where they would of over charged me. It happened to me many times. A simple question leads to a phone call to set up a business deal where they end up ripping you off. (I.e the following restaraunt where they charged me 70 pounds for a wrap) 4)Then they refused to let me go...if their intentions were good they would of just said ok "he doesnt want to, no worries good bye" but instead they insisted like the many other scammers I came accross. And lastly even if they invited me to go eat with their grandma, I still wouldn't of gone because of the way they were acting. And neither would of you if you were in my shoes. Cheers Kurt
They weren't trying to scam you and you need understand that they don't know English. You could have handled it in a more polite way because if they were genuine that would be extremely disrespectful. He didn't refuse to let you go he was just asking him to at least listen to the translator. Keep in mind there aren't even many tourists in that area. Nobody is asking you to go they're just saying to change the title because it's disrespectful. EVEN IF they were trying to scam you (not saying they were) that's not kidnapping.
They had pure intentions, did you seriously feel threatened by 2 boys? If you don’t understand Egyptian hospitality then maybe you just shouldn’t go to Egypt. And just so you know, the pyramid tour guides over charge everyone, wtf do expect?
Hi, I'm Egyptian, can talk arabic so: 1 About that he turned left, that is because you ask him that you want food, maybe he thought that there is no restaurant straight away 2 the boy didn't offer you a horse, he just wanted to say look here it's a horse. 3 about the call, they just want to get some one who can talk English for you 4 I agree that they were act strangely with you, but they are normal with us, the people in Egypt are really helpful for strangers and they want to help them as much as they can 5 you have a bad experience because of some thieves or scammers, I really feel sorry for that and it's ok if you felt unsafe, you should get away like what you did, but change the title of the video because you aren't sure that they were a scammers. the next time that you want someone to leave you alone and he didn't, just say that you will call the police, it will work like magic if he just heard the police word, it's Arabic word too and even if you really called the police, the Egyptian police will be helpful with you.
Kurt has lived as long as he has and escaped bad situations by relying on his instinct. If something didn’t feel right he made the right decision getting out of dodge and he still paid the guy for a short ride. Worst case if he is wrong he may have slightly offended 2 young guys, best case he saved his ass! Be safe and keep living life to its fullest and showing us subs what it’s like it places most of us don’t have the balls to go especially alone!
@@graduke1 but that's not the point of their comment at all... im sure lots of people go alone to a lot of places but you should rely instinct and gut feelings regardless. i'm sure he MAYBE wouldn't have died but he's not trying to get ripped off either.
The moment he got on the tuk tuk they started getting on their phones. That’s a red flag. Could have been nothing but he’s been around enough to know when something is off.
Trust me bro, you did what anybody with any street smarts would’ve done. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to stay out of precarious situations because you’re almost sure to get robbed or worse. Good job Kurt.
Rule #1 in life, don't go to empovrished destinations/ neighborhoods you know nothing about. ESPECIALLY, if you don't speak the language. I made the mistake of going to the wrong neighborhood in the US and learned my lesson since.
Yup, Kurt did right, you can usually sense when things aren't right in your gut when they don't communicate frankly and try and redirect you to other stuff. Been there done that when I visited south africa, always be on guard, sadly there are oportunists everywhere.
You can clearly see the difference between the two tuk-tuk rides. One with two guys taking you somewhere where you don't wanna go trying to sell you stuff you don't want and then forcing it on you. Other one stops, takes you where you want, drops you off where you want, puts music when you want and is a friendly nice guy.
hello, i will not start by trying to explain the customs of the arab people cuz you are not going to believe it anyways so i will just talk to you about the actions kurt told him go straight he went straight then he told him " food " so the kid take a turn and wanned to get him to a place where kurt and him can eat " Home " , then he tried to give him someone who can actually speak english, and then kurt paniced and asked him to drop him off and that's what he did when he was talking to kurt after droping kurt off he was telling him " you are making me sad, i will be sad - sad if he didn't come to eat with him- " last thing and i hope kurt sees this he goes into suspecious poor streets without a guide or a translator, and start calling everyone trying to sell him something a theif or a criminal even when he was at the barbar shop - in another video - the barbar shop did many things for him for 70 egy pound and i do them for 150 litterally and still when he went out of the shop he said that he is over charging him. so.. if you have any questions i will answer with a wide chest

Hey there Kurt. As I’m fluent in both Arabic and English I’ll explain to you and the viewers what exactly was said by the tuk-tuk driver and his friend. So to explain the situation of the 2 kids. At first, he was telling his buddy that they’ll just give you a ride back and forth on that road. Then once you signaled for food they understood that and the driver responded “alright we will go together to eat.” Later on, the driver asks you if he can take you on an adventure. Then due to the lack of communication, he tried to call a friend who spoke English to interpret what he was trying to tell you. I honestly think they were good kids who just got their tuk-tuk and wanted to show you around but couldn’t talk to you as they couldn’t speak English. It’s also understandable and fair that you got nervous and wanted to get off asap. Hope I explained the situation well.
I am Egyptian, and find the misunderstanding in communication so hilarious. For example, when you asked if there are crocodiles in that canal, the Egyptian man thought you were asking if a tractor comes to clean that mess 🤣🤣

While he is going to these places he can't speak arabic or even he hired a guide. So what do you think?
Hello hello, there is network all over egypt First of all he goes to suspecious poor streets of egypt and deal with locals without a guide or a translator Then he just call everyone a criminal or a theif Okey let's start by the tuk tuk driver - the kid- so kurt said go straight then said the word food, so the kid changed the road to take him either home to give him a free meal or a resturant to eat together and gave him a phone to talk to someone who can speak english. And when he went off the tuk tuk he gave him 5 le the kid said "khalas ya gadaa" which means i don't want money So he basically just missed a free meal with nice people and went to a crepe shop that over charged him by 30 or 40 egyptian pound And btw if the kid took him to a restaurant to eat together no arab will let you pay the bill Have a nice day and stay safe If you have any questions i am happy to answer them

Actually Mike, this video is based on misunderstandings and a severe language barrier. This happened to me in Ukraine in 2019. Late at night 2-3am I was pretty drunk. My Uber driver with a scar across his face kept asking me if I wanted to go to a “place for fun” and I kept telling him no I just wanted to go to my hotel. He ended up canceling the ride and taking me off course (I used my GPS and realized we weren’t going to the hotel.) But whatever he has his own problems to deal with now.
Looking at some of these negative reactions and comments towards Kurt deciding to leave the first tuk-tuk is blowing my mind. Self preservation is very important and many seems to let that ideology escape them. Yes some say that they were being nice, but when you properly analyze the situation Kurt did the right thing. everyone is usually very friendly in egypt (apart from the "scammers" they dont really get the opportunity to make money alot so they do overcharge like crazy with tourists) but i'd advise anyone going to egypt to have someone to guide them around and also speak arabic & english. If you want the full experience pay someone for the day and they'll make your experience much better. Also the tuk-tuk wanted to drop off the carpets and take you to eat, he didn't hear you say take a right but he noticed you wanted to eat. But then again that could've went left quickly the area you were in was dead they could've did whatever they wanted to you if they weren't friendly

Put yourself in his shoes, he was being scammed everywhere around egypt. Do you expect him to grab some food with strangers that he just met ? I was in egypt 3 months ago and had a terrible experiences with a lot of the scammers, especially in the pyramids. They try to take advantage of you just because you're foreign. It's a shame really, I would have enjoyed my trip to cairo a lot more if it weren't to those people. Unfortunately, I'm never gonna go there again.
I remember visiting Hurghada with my family before the arab spring. We were just walking down the city in the evening watching the architecture and the stores from a distance when a group of young men literally blocked our way and forced all of us into their little store in hopes that we would buy some of their things. Just to clear things up to all the smart commentators here:
1) I asked him to go straight. He then turned into a side road. (First dodgy move)
2) If you listen carefully the younger dude asks "horse?" offering me a horse ride.
(I.e the following restaraunt where they charged me 70 pounds for a wrap)
4)Then they refused to let me go...if their intentions were good they would of just said ok "he doesnt want to, no worries good bye" but instead they insisted like the many other scammers I came accross.
And lastly even if they invited me to go eat with their grandma, I still wouldn't of gone because of the way they were acting. And neither would of you if you were in my shoes.
Cheers

He didn't refuse to let you go he was just asking him to at least listen to the translator. Keep in mind there aren't even many tourists in that area. Nobody is asking you to go they're just saying to change the title because it's disrespectful. EVEN IF they were trying to scam you (not saying they were) that's not kidnapping.
They had pure intentions, did you seriously feel threatened by 2 boys? If you don’t understand Egyptian hospitality then maybe you just shouldn’t go to Egypt. And just so you know, the pyramid tour guides over charge everyone, wtf do expect?

3 about the call, they just want to get some one who can talk English for you
4 I agree that they were act strangely with you, but they are normal with us, the people in Egypt are really helpful for strangers and they want to help them as much as they can
5 you have a bad experience because of some thieves or scammers, I really feel sorry for that and it's ok if you felt unsafe, you should get away like what you did, but change the title of the video because you aren't sure that they were a scammers.

At first, he was telling his buddy that they’ll just give you a ride back and forth on that road. Then once you signaled for food they understood that and the driver responded “alright we will go together to eat.” Later on, the driver asks you if he can take you on an adventure. @@abdallahkhalifa7601 he wrote that because they were taking him some place he didn’t ask for. I believe that’s kidnapping, going somewhere without his consent.
This happened to me in Ukraine in 2019. Late at night 2-3am I was pretty drunk. My Uber driver with a scar across his face kept asking me if I wanted to go to a “place for fun” and I kept telling him no I just wanted to go to my hotel. He ended up canceling the ride and taking me off course (I used my GPS and realized we weren’t going to the hotel.)
I kept telling him I wanted to go to hotel and when I realized we weren’t going there I told him to stop, I have him $20.00 for a 2 dollar Uber ride and got out.
He was pissed. But whatever he has his own problems to deal with now.

As an American/Egyptian I understand how it’s feels to get scammed but before u go there next time please get a friend there that has experience! Cause someone u don’t understand how it’s like there! For Egyptians we get a lower price because we have been there and know what it’s like. But as for foreigners they add because they know u are from somewhere else! Again sorry for the ignorance. Not all Egyptians are like this
Hey kurt, i am moroccan i watched lot of your videos in latin amercia cairo and gizeh but i got a say that i feel so bad for the two boys in the tuk tuk bc of the way you disrespected them, i know you were suspiscious and the langage barriere beetween you aggravated the situation. They were just trying to be friendly and helpful bc you said you were trying to find somewhere to eat. Peace to everyone and to all egyptian brothers
Man, it's his right to follow his instincts about a situation. No one else would pay the price, time and/or money, if it's going not smoothly as he wished. Have you heard in that video that he already experimented bad experiences? Just watch the video of him in Khan Khalili, being "helped" by a man, which result him being scammed, harassed and pisssed off...
@@travelsvideos779 yes i agree with you he has the right to flollow his instincts but this time hes instincts werent that good. The scam guy in khan khalili was a totally different situation.
@@theObscureDoge94 First, how could you know it's different here, since he didn't go up to that point to know if things are either a scam or not ?? Have you read the pinned message of him in the comments, where is even clarifying better his choice to be dropped off the tuktuk ? I mean what makes you sure about the intentions of those guys ? and lastly, have you travelled in Egypt and knows what is to experiment tourism harrassment ? Too many questions, you see...at the end only him can judge what is good or not for him ! and yes instinct and experiences are his tools to move on or not !
@@travelsvideos779 hey man relax i told you that i agree with you that he could trust his instincts but this time he was wrong and he treaterd two good helpfull guys like sh.t ! im moroccan and i understand the egyptian arabic dialect this is how i know he was wrong and i dont have to travel to egypt to understund i know how they are and their culture its similar to ours (moroccans). what part of my response is causing you problems ??
@@theObscureDoge94 haha I am chilled, don't worry ^^ I am just telling you things he may have felt and experimented there, and why he probably has reacted like that.
Of course, there are good people everywhere, Egypt or Morocco. But trust me as a white dude around, even just foreigner or not mastering the language, you may always have people who want to take advantage of you and sometimes disrespect you, whether in Morocco or Egypt, I experimented both. He just felt not comfortable about being involved at that level for being drived around without being sure to be understood, then suddenly being proposed horse service just after he was doubting their intentions, and get their phone to call over someone to convince him to reach whatever place...He prevented him to waste time and be disappointed, whether those guys were genuine or not ;)
At the end, he may have misunderstood them and their intentions, but he did a choice over bad repetive experiences based on what is called red flags. I am sorry for those guys if their intentions were good, but that then the limit of cultural understanding. He paid them, and left, everyone went their directions. Nothing wrong here. Peace Man :)

@@tubester4567 I am from Egypt and I understand what they say in Arabic, and I do not think that they want to harm or defraud him. Thanks Kurt for enduring this hell hole. Egypt is now definitely a country OFF my traveling list,

I think these guys in the toktok wanted to help. As an Egyptian, that is just egyptians being egyptian. They didnt mean to kidnap you or hurt you in anyway. They were trying to be hospitable. Tuktuk miscommunication lol, the driver understood you were hungry and said he'd go somewhere you both can eat together, then he asked you if you wanted a tuktuk tour around but you didn't respond so he called his friend to translate to English but you were too suspicious by then lol. The guy on the phone was a translator.
Lmao, this whole situation is so funny. He became so paranoid from their point of view. Btw aren't these guys just delivering rugs? Not a tuktuk taxi thing? Makes it even funnier
everyone is usually very friendly in egypt (apart from the "scammers" they dont really get the opportunity to make money alot so they do overcharge like crazy with tourists) but i'd advise anyone going to egypt to have someone to guide them around and also speak arabic & english.
