Dear Kurt. I’m Peruvian, now working in Uganda. You’ve been in one of the most dangerous places in Lima. I know you’re young and like to do these things and of course a lot of fans are following you but please be careful. You could have been easily robbed and moreover, stabbed, shot or even killed. No, he knew that the person warning him and telling him to go back the way he came to the tuktuk was actually planning to rob him. He was the accomplice of the tuktuk driver. Ok, i am really curious about something. I am from a safe country so I don’t know about this. Is it that dangerous? I mean, what do you mean by « risky ». People are saying you can get robbed or killed just like that. I understand about the robbing thing, but killed? Why would they kill you? Life don’t have any value there so some people just kill you like that? An other question: on the top, there was a woman selling stuff and he bought a beer. Also, all the way, we see people like the old guy blessing him, or the people saying to him to hide the camera. Those people are not in danger? Or are they so used to it they don’t even care anymore?
@@corentin8634 Marginal, poor neighborhoods are dangerous because there's little to none policing thus ripe for gun toting gangs and junkies who might not hesitate to shoot you or stab you if you try to resist the robbery. Of course, most people are peaceful and even friendly as you see on the video but there are rotten apples too. On the second question, locals feel somehow safer because they have become adapted and risk-conscious. Naturally, they know they live in permanent danger but have learned to deal with that situation. Today I live in a relatively safe district of Lima but I grew up in a not too safe area and it is just the harsh reality of everyday life there.
The reason why the "tuk-tuk" (in Peruvian: moto-taxi) was going so slow is because it was having a hard time carrying this guy's gigantic BALLS OF STEEL. To add, he said he was taking pictures for Facebook. Nope, he was sending the photos to his friends at the bottom of the hill. He has to video the mugging and also have prior documented photos of the victim so he can prove that he set it up, so some of the gang members he's involved with can't try to get out of paying him his cut. Yeah that's how it works.

Lima is very diverse and most people dont know all the barrios even living there forever. Getting some facts straight: 1. The "wall of shame" is in a completely different part of the city, between the rich-getto "Casuarinas" and "Pamplona Alta". 2. The misty part on the horizon was "Miraflores", that´s were the ocean is. 3. Most of the coast of Peru is, actually, a desert. Funny that the first mototaxista showed the price at first time with his fingers: 1 Sol (which is usual for a such a short ride). As he noticed, you had no idea and asked again, he tried: 10 Soles. Not much for you, a lot for him. Somehow fair at the end.

The police also set up sting operations using “vulnerable” people such as tourists as bait. Maybe he didn’t get robbed because it’s CRAZY to even see a tourist in these parts of town.
That's exactly what I was thinking. It was like seeing an alien and they had no time to react from the surprise of actually spotting a gringo. Look Kurt is on a mission, he has a passion for doing this. All the hand wringing isn't going to convince him to do anything differently. It's like trying to tell a wing suit flyer to stop or a free diver or someone from scaling Everest. It just ain't gonna happen. I really admire Kurt and appreciate his content immensely.
Been watching some of your videos lately but this one made me jump the fence and get subscribed. You did real awesome bro.. you meant business (I mean fun ;)). Cheers and keep it going..
I’m Hispanic and I would never do this, I feel like they’d have even less of a problem killing me if need be. On the one hand, I’m glad you made this video because that barrio is really beautiful but on the other hand, please listen to the locals. I could secondhand feel it get really dangerous after you got to the top of that first street
@Carl Andren it’s known for being dangerous so nobody will be surprised and also it will be unlikely that government will investigate who exactly was responsible
@Carl Andren Not long ago I talked to a guy from Nicaragua, he said that even if you don't have anything of value on you (like a camera, wallet, watch, necklace, money, etc.), it won't protect you-first, they might shoot/kill you and only THEN check if you have anything valuable.
Think you’re great Kurt. However, you seem to have the mindset that if YOU havent experienced something, then it’s likely overblown and people are being overly cautious. I respect your sense of adventure, but I really am concerned because it only takes one time to be in a situation where you could be severely injured or even killed. I get that life is not without risks, but they should be calculated risks IMO. Please take care of yourself Kurt. We all want you to be around a long long time.
I’m an American, and when I was young I went to school in Cape Town. I traveled alone, slept on beaches, even pretended to have a knife once to bluff a mugger with a real knife, etc. I got warnings like the ones Kurt is getting. Looking back, I think I thought I was invincible. Kurt may be so crazy that it keeps him safe- sometimes the muggers stay clear of crazy foreigners for no other reason than the fear of the unknown. Cheers Kurt. Stay safe and thanks for the videos.
As a Peruvian, muggers have become way more violent in recent years, going to the point of killing you if you dont have a cellphone for them to steal, obviously that case only happened a couple of times, but lately its more dangerous than before

Vivo en Lima toda mi vida, conozco barrios populosos, pero donde te has metido nunca, en el rimac y el callo hay barrios muy peligrosos. Gracias a Dios no te paso nada. Eres bienvenido a Peru siempre, pero a esos barrios tienes que tener cuidado, o sino ir con un amigo de ahí. Cuando vas con amigos de la zona todo es más tranquilo. Un abrazo

I can’t tell you how many times I had a panic attack watching this. You are one brave soul.
Bro, as someone from Lima,Peru. I never went to those places, its too risky and would never go there. I was nervous the entire video, YOU ARE INSANE!!

Of course, most people are peaceful and even friendly as you see on the video but there are rotten apples too.
On the second question, locals feel somehow safer because they have become adapted and risk-conscious. Naturally, they know they live in permanent danger but have learned to deal with that situation. Today I live in a relatively safe district of Lima but I grew up in a not too safe area and it is just the harsh reality of everyday life there.
@@carlosrincon6017 ok. Thank you very much for the time you put in your answer. I appreciate that
The reason why the "tuk-tuk" (in Peruvian: moto-taxi) was going so slow is because it was having a hard time carrying this guy's gigantic BALLS OF STEEL. Dude, I've had chills watching you walk to Cerro San Cristobal, and I've lived in Lima my entire life, and I have walked through very dangerous zones, but even I don't dare walk by myself alone with a camera up to Cerro San Cristobal. Interesting video! I´m from Lima myself (Im half peruviand and half german) and have visited the barrio Rimas as a "tourist" too, altough being in my city. Lima is very diverse and most people dont know all the barrios even living there forever. The place is known as potentially dangerous, but somehow your refreshing mixture of being bold, being unjudging and being naive, leads to you going through this places unharmed.
Miraflores is the 'rich side'. Quite a nice place when I visited :)
